My PlextorPX-708A won't run in DMA mode

My PlextorPX-708A won't run in DMA mode I've tried reinstalling it and this was also a fresh install of winXP with Service Pack1a, my other dvd dive which is made by shuttle and is older will run in DMA mode and PIO mode but the plextor DVd writer won't and when I use it in PIO mode music and videos play slow in it what is the problem, I have a MSI K7N2 Delta mobo and the two drives are hooked on the secondary IDE channel and I tried swapping both drives to slave or master What is the problem
Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
Bobby: When you are booting and the machine detects your HD's and CD-ROM's sometimes the firmware version is shown along with the drive's ID details, press "Pause" on the keyboard if you don't get time to read it!
Another way is to go Start>Settings>Control Panel> Double-click "System" then "Hardware" tab - then click "Device Manager" look for "DVD/CD-ROM Drives" in the list of hardware and then click on "+" on the left hand side - your CD-ROM drives should now be listed - right-click on the drive you want the info on, then down the menu to "Properties" then click on the "Details" tab - this should show you  the "Device ID" and hopefully the firmware version. (my apologies for writing this step-by-step guide but I though I'd include it just in case)
Or another way is explained on Plextor's site here:

  • Database control won't run in secure mode

I'm following the instructions displayed by the database configuration manager after creating a database. These instructions configure the database control to run in secure mode using https. I get an error with the following command run from the OS command line while in the ORACLE_HOME/bin directory:
    emctl.bat secure dbconsole -sysman_pwd password
I get the error message "Failed to create EM root key."
The emdctl.trc file has the following entry: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it."
The ORACLE_SID has already been set. The database control is down. The "emctl config emkey -repos" command completed successfully.
I'm using Oracle 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2003 server. I'm running this command on the database server. The database control was selected in the database configuration manager. This database control does run successfully in http mode, but I can't configure it for https.
Does anyone know why the target machine would actively refuse this connection?

Have you tried it without the -sysman_pwd flag ?

  • Flash Player won't Run in Unsafe Mode anymore

    Hi everyone,
Yesterday I installed this new version of Safari (6.2), but it ended up breaking Flash Player and the ability to run Flash in Unsafe Mode. "Why would I want to run it in unsafe mode?" you might ask. I use Hear an EQ to improve the audio quality, and the only way to make it work with Safari and Flash Player is by using it in Unsafe Mode. And that's another reason why I still use ML, because Mavericks is so sandboxed that Hear won't even work on the system sounds, like Alerts and Quick Look.
If anyone have a solution to this, I more then appreciate your help. If there is no solution, could you send me the link to the old version of Safari and how to downgrade? I think the old version is the 6.1.2, not sure.
    Thank You,
    Jake.

It's installing correctly if it's in your Add-ons manager. The "plugin" is 6mb. The rest is WAY bigger.
    See:
The rest of the problem ISN'T with Flash Player. It's with IE11.
This is a known problem with Internet Explorer 11, which Microsoft has been aware of since October 18 when they released their latest "untested" browser. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • [NF2] K7N2 Delta2 DVD-R/W won't write in DMA mode

Experienced builder, just built a new system, and my DVD-R/W will not write with DMA turned on.  It does with DMA turned off, but that takes 50 minutes for a single-layer DVD!  Have exhausted myself searching here and googling for an answer.  Here's the whole story, and thanks for reading:
I had two Socket-A systems with Gigabyte GA-7VTXE mainboards (VIA chipset), both running Windows 98SE, both with Sony DVD-R/W drives (one a DRU-530A SL, the other a DRU-800A DL) working perfectly using Nero 6 Ultra Edition.  The mainboard died (bad capacitors) in the system with the DRU-800 DL drive, so I bought a new MSI K7N2 Delta2 mainboard, and a new Antec Silent Case with Antec SmartPower 350W supply to put it in.  I moved the rest of the components over from the old system, including the DRU-800 drive, the AMD 2200+ CPU, the OCZ 512MB single stick, and the MSI GeForce 2.  The CPU and RAM are near-new, having been recently installed, and thoroughly burned-in.
With the same Windows 98 SE and Nero 6 Ultra, everything is recongnized, and will burn with DMA off (and it took far too long troubleshooting just to discover that).  But with DMA on, Nero begins the write process, does the lead-in, and then immediatly gives a "drive not ready" error.
Steps I've tried so far:  tried a new, 80-conductor cable.  Tried DVD-R/W drive as master and as slave, with and without the DVD-ROM drive, with proper jumper setting and cable positioning.  Updated Nero to the final Ultra 6 revision.  Updated the DVD-R/W drive firmware to latest.  Did a fresh install of Windows 98 SE, twice, once applying the MSI mainboard drivers and once not, afterward installing only Nero.  Went and bought a new DVD-R/W drive (LG 4167).  In every case, the results were exactly the same:  no go with DMA on, works (but unacceptably slow) with DMA off.  The two hard drives and the DVD-ROM drive appear to work properly with DMA on.  I downloaded the latest drivers from MSI, and they appear to be exactly the same as the ones on the CD which came with the mainboard.  [Though I bought the board new retail, it is after all an older model, but the CD must be fairly recent.]  It appears, though, that the mainboard drivers for Windows 98 SE do not include any IDE drivers (relying on MS IDE drivers?), only the XP MSI drivers include an IDE driver.
With two DVD-R/W drives displaying exactly the same problem, I don't think it is the drives.  The system appears stable in all other regards, the temperatures are very good, and it just doesn't appear to be a CPU, RAM, or power-supply issue.  I suspect either a mainboard/chipset/driver issue, but haven't been able to get any nearer a solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If any further information is needed, please ask.  For example, I can't say the exact revision of the mainboard, because it isn't shown on the MSI site!  MSI shows only two K7N2 Delta2 boards:  the Platinum, and the FSR.  My board is neither of those, though it is almost identical to the Platinum, the only differences being that the board itself is red in colour (like the FSR), rather than the Platinum's blue, and that it does not have firewire.  The board layout itself is exactly like the Platinum, including the chipset fan, connector placement, etc.
EDIT:  Sorry for slight mis-information--the Delta2 board I have is not red in colour, I was thinking of my MSI 939 board (K8N Neo4 Platinum) which is red.  The K7N2 board is actually the colour of the Platinum, and in fact appears to be identical in every way except the missing firewire connectors and has only one Gb ethernet connector (if I've read the Platinum specs right, it has two).

Did you ever manage to do a repair install of 98, as I asked in one of the first posts ever? I can't quite remember for 98, but for ME you find a folder C://Windows/Options/Install that contains the necessary files. But you would still need the 98-disk I believe to get the reg. code.
No, sorry.  I did fresh installs of Windows 98 SE more than once, both with and without drivers, updates, IE, DirectX, etc.  With 98SE, I couldn't find an actual 'repair install' option.  I think one would just do a fresh install over top of the existing install, and am not sure how that would be any different than the installs I've already done, but I can try it if you like?
Microsoft used to have an updated 98 Driver Library, but I can't find anywhere anymore to download it, so can't try that.
Intentions?  Well, I just read in a MS Forum thread that MSI (or any?) nForce3/4 chipset boards, such as the K8N Neo4 Platinum I'll be building next, don't support Win9x, so I suppose I'll need to use XP for now.  But, my real intention is to move to Linux !
EDIT:  You know, I was just reading, again in MS forums, that 9x does not support drives over 128GB.  You may have noticed that I have put a 160GB (decimal) drive on primary slave.  In the former system (again, 98SE on socket A board), that 160GB drive was on a Promise PCI IDE controller card with it's own BIOS, and with the Promise driver installed in 98SE.  This allows both 98SE, and even DOS 7.1, to see and use the full capacity of the drive, as a single partition, without problem; but, Windows Scandisk and Defrag don't work on it, of course.  But, I've got two PATA 160GB drives, going into two different systems, and only one controller card.  To make use of both large drives, I could A) buy another controller card, B) buy an available commercial 9x patch which does the same thing for 9x as the controller's driver, or C) just use XP for now, until getting moved over to Linux.  So I'm thinking that more or less settles it.  It's a real disappointment that the cause of the 98SE/nForce2 problem wasn't found, but I want to thank everyone for all the help you've given!

  • Since updating to XI 11.0.10.32 Reader won't run in Protected Mode. How do I fix this?

The "tell me more" was no help at all.  I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 up to date with patches, and AVG Ultimate 2015 with ZEN for internet security, and configuration optimisation.

Most likely it will work if you select 'Always open with Protected Mode disabled'.

  • Thread won't run in release mode

My application runs fine in Debug mode. I have several threads. A couple just blink some LEDS. In release mode they don't blink and my main function that is triggered by a button which runs a callback function that launches another thread doesn't work.

    Hello,
it's difficult to try guessing what's happening with no informations available. Apparently ther's something that's causing a program crash in release mode and you suppose it relates to some problem in memory allocation. Additionally, it seems your program is consuming system resources until it fills up all available memory.
Are you freeing the dynamic memory when no longer needed? Are you sure you don't have any memory leak that can cause this increment in memory occupation? You must double check that every dynamic array allocated is freed when no longer used; you may want to swap part of the dynamic memory to disk if you are not using it constantly.
Additionally, have you a consistent and robust error checking method that logs all errors found to the user interface or to disk?
Another hint if you have CVI2009+ can be to activate extended debugging level in Build Options, next run the program some time in debug mode and close it: if some resources are not properly freed the Resource tracking window should appear with all allocated resources listed that are not correctly freed by the code.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • MS6701 running in Pl0 mode not DMA

    P4 2.66,MSI 6701 v1.14,Phoenix 6.00PG  9/11/02
Hi my machine has suddenly started running slowly, the C drive(seagateST3120023a)is running in Pl0 mode, and won't return to DMA,seagate think it may be corrupted Bus master drivers, does anyone know how to correct this, any help would be most obliged, thanks

I had this problem once with my DVD-ROM drive. Apparently the cause could highly be caused due to broken pins on the HDD. Broken pins may cause the HDD to run at PIO or to not run at all. If the pins are actually broken it is best to replace the drive. To make sure, try inserting another to check if it runs on DMA mode. Please notify me if you have managed to solve this problem.

  • Firefox 24 and 25 won't run on server identities?

I downloaded the last update, 24, which worked fine on local identities. When I try to open it in a server/network identity, it never opens, just hangs - I tried opening in safe mode (opt key + open, choose safe mode) and it acts like it will open, but never loads, and I can't click any buttons on the toolbar (or I can click one, but nothing ever loads). Resetting doesn't work either. It does the same thing on all computers, only server identities.
I've tried creating a new profile, deleting old profiles, changing places suffixes to ".old", deleting prefs file - nothing worked. Firefox never opens, so I can't do any of the support related to the toolbar.
I think it's related to an add-on, because it first crashed when trying to find compatibility with add-ons. It won't run in safe mode, though, so I can't tell.
My next step is going to be trying to find where all the add-ons are located, and delete them manually, but I'm not sure where to start.
If anyone has any other advice, that would be great!

    Hi,
    Thanks, but it didn't work~~
I tried to delete the extensions from the folder first, but when I tried to open firefox, it had the same problem.
I actually removed both the Mozilla folder and the Firefox folder as a last resort, and it's still not working.
The window pops up, with the "bookmarks and history system will not be functional... Some security software can cause this problem" error message. The "Learn More" button is not clickable.
I've disabled all security software and even my firewall, and it's still happening. My extensions/addons are deleted.

  • I am trying to run my registered CS6 Design Standard programs for the first time after install. InDesign runs OK, but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trail mode. How do I activate those two?

I can't get my registered versions of CS6 Photoshop and Illustrator to run in full mode. I installed CS6 Design Standard online end of June (an upgrade from CS5.5), on my old MacBook Pro. I didn't run the programs then as I was waiting on arrival of new MacBook Pro. I migrated the programs from my old MacBook to the new, and today tried to run those programs for the first time. InDesign work OK (after an initial hiccup) but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trial mode, and won't let me save files. My CS6 Design Standard shows with it's registration in my Adobe Account. All seems in order, but Illustrator and Photoshop won't run in registered mode. Can you please help?

Demons1 in the future please only migrate your documents and settings.
Please use the uninstallers to remove your current installation.  They are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once the uninstall is complete you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool.  You can find more details at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.
If you need to download a fresh copy of the installation files for Creative Suite 6 you can do so at Download CS6 products.

  • CS3 installs but won't run

Ok - not sure if this goes in this section or not.. but it's a technical question.
My b/f bought me a Dell Laptop last week. It has the recommended minimum of everything adobe says it needs for photoshop CS3 (see below for 1721 specs)
When I installed it on the laptop - it was slow, but said it installed. But when I go to open up Photoshop, it opens the screen - and then just hangs. After about 5 minutes it says not responding and I close it. Any of the other programs that came with won't even get that far. I click on them and it gives the little "thinking" circle (as I call it.. lol) and then nothing.
I have read that CS3 has issues with Vista - but their site says the home premium should work. I've also read about 64 bit issues.. but the OS is 32 bit - so it's capable of running 32bit systems... I guess.
I called adobe yesterday after installing and reinstalling CS3 15+ times... with the same issue. I was on the phone for about 2 hours with them. Basically - they have NO CLUE what it would be since it installs fine and opens with no error messages. I checked the log files and there is nothing in there I see that says any kind of error.
I have disable windows defender, uninstalled McAfee and google desktop (all are known to cause issues with CS3), I have ALL non MS startup services turned off.. I have turned off the MS users control.. all suggested by the adobe tech.
I have installed using the run as administrator. Nothing. Created a new admin account and installed on that user and opened on reg admin account. Nothing. (again typical things that correct cs3 install issues)
The last thing the guy said was that it might be a video issue. I checked and there aren't any issues mentioned and no driver updates listed.
We tryed installing this on my b/f's laptop. He bought the exact one I have (except his is red.. mine blue.. lol) and it does the EXACT same thing...
So today we called dell. they say it's a software issue and won't answer any questions for free. Apparently only hardware support is free... But they won't accept this is a hardware conflict with the software..
    errrrr
Anybody have any clues on this?

Rob - thanks for taking a stab at this.
I have tried installing from the DVD and also from the zip file. the zip file was extracted to the hard drive brfore I ran it - and I ran it as administrator.
And when it stalls - it gives the (NOT RESPONDING) tag on the window - which usually means that even if I leave it (and I have for up to 20 minutes) - still nothing.
Here's the update from my dealings with DEll today...
Dell tech support guy told me that it was a know issue that CS3 WON'T run on Vista and that Adobe is working the issue
Told them that I knew others that were running it on Vista and it worked fine. They had no answer.
Then I waited for the Technical support manger to call. This is after expressing my displeasure to the technical supervisor about them trying to pawn this issue off on anyone else but themselves. Why can't they go grab a 1721 off the shelf and replicate the issue and try to figure it out from there?!?!?!
I used to work on a network helpdesk.. if I tried to pull that crap answer without trying to replicate the issue and AT LEAST try to find an answer.. I wouldn't have lasted very long at all!!!!
The Tech manager told me to call customer support and ask for an OS swap (from vista to XP) because they don't know what the problem is and so it muct be a Vista compatibility issue
I call customer support. They say that they no longer will give out XP since it is a step backwards. And to install XP on the machine ourselves (even a liscensed copy) would void the warranty. They suggest I talk to sales about swapping the laptop out with a "more compatible" one. Which isn't a totally bad idea since I really do think it is an AMD/ATI conflict.
They transfer me to Sales.. ohh - you used the Employee Purchase program.. you need to talk to them.. and they transfer me.
The EPP people tell me.. ohhhh you didn't actually go through us since you bought it off the Dell Outlet store. So they transfer me.
The dell outlet store says they will be more than happy to swap me out to an Intel based machine.
Only catch is the Intels are more expensive. They don't have any for the price we paid for the amd's. Fot about $40 more I can get one with a slower processer, a gig less ram, no dvd writer, but with a 160gb hd. To get compatible to mine - would be about $150 more.
And they only have silver in the low end, and black or brown in the higher. Not that I really give a s@!t what the color is.. but it brings up the main reason I am sooo pissed abput all of this....
Why should I have to pay more money, settle on doing without option/features want/need.. just because THEY don't want to take the time to figure out what the real issue is?!?!?! Why isn't it them doing these calls and doing all this troubleshooting.. Why am I being peanilzed for THEM not wanting to do their jobs....
Told the B/F that I am done with Dell. That I don't want the laptop anymore and I don't want any other one from them. He says he'll pay the extra and get me the other one.. but that isn't the point....
Not sure what my next move is.

  • How do I install the FM10 licensing fix when Adobe Update Installer won't run?

Adobe Update Installer won't run so can't install FM10 licensing fix
This question is Not Answered.(Mark as assumed answered)

           Tags (edit): none (add)
Because FM10 began crashing with "fatal" errors whenever I tried to generate a TOC for a small (65 page) book, I researched workarounds and none of them worked. Now that I have delivered a crippled deliverable via Acrobat manipulations, I would like to fix FM. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, got some updates, and then received the "licensing fix" error that popped up in January. I'm wondering why this fix was included not in the updates. That said, the licensing fix package, first, would not unzip so I downloaded it again. I unzipped it but I got a message that Adobe Updater Installer could not run and after several clicks I found that file. I reinstalled Adoble Update Installer but it still does not run.
I am running Windows XP and have TCS 3.5.I uninstalled FM and RH but not Acrobat, Captivate, or Photoshop.
So, now what? Listen to my supervisor who says never use FM again?
P.S. Why do I have to enter a title for my question and then do it again when this page opens??

Give Adobe Support a call or contact the TCS team at [email protected] - something in your environment is causing the installer to fail (I'd guess).

  • Action steps that won't run correctly in PSE 7/8/9 (but did in 4 and 6)

I have a wonderful action that was written to work in PSE 3/4/6.  It won't run in PSE 7/8/9.  After fooling around for a while, I think I understand why.  Adobe changed the way Adjustment Layers are handled.  In earlier versions of Photoshop and Elements, Adjustment Layers threw up a modal dialog box.  That changed so that Adjustment Layers now appear in the Palette Bin as a palette.
Here a sample of some of the action steps that won't work correctly:
    Make adjustment layer
    Using: adjustment layer
    Type: levels
    Set Selection
    To: none
    Set current layer
    To: layer
    Name:  “Adjustment 1”
    Set current layer
    To: layer
    Mode: luminosity
    Stop
    Message:  “Move gray slider left”
    With Continue
    Set current adjustment layer
    To: levels
In earlier versions of PS and PSE, the way these steps would work is that a new adjustment layer would be created, the dialog box giving the instruction would open, it would be dismissed by clicking "Continue," and then the "Set current adjustment layer to: Levels" would generate a model adjustment layer dialog box would open up which would let one make the adjustment.
In newer versions, since Adjustment Layers are handled in the Palette Bin, after dismissing the instructions, the action doesn't stop to allow the user to make change the sliders on the adjustment layer.
The action runs perfectly in CS4 and CS5 and throws up the levels adjustment modal box as it did in PSE 4 and PSE 6, but the action doesn't throw the modal box in PSE 7/8/9
Does anyone know of a way to alter the action steps to allow the action to stop to allow the adjustment and then to resume again?

Adding a new levels adjustment layer on top of the Midtone contrast layer
should work, just use a clipping mask to restrict the adjustments to the
areas of the levels adjustment layer below. The histogram will be different, but
actually testing the action is really the only way to know if that makes any difference.
Replacing the levels adjustment layer is another option, though it requires a few more steps.
The following assumes when the action gets to this point,
the Midtone contrast adjustment layer is the active (selected) layer.
To record this part of the action:
    1. Duplicate current channel (in the channels panel. drag the Midtone contrast mask
down to the Create new channel icon at the bottom of the channels panel)
    2. Ctrl+click on the newly created channel (Midtone contrast mask copy)
This loads the selection of that channel.
    3. Drag the new channel (midtone contrast mask copy) to the trash icon at the bottom
       of the channels panel.
    4. Back in the layers panel, delete the Midtone Contrast adjustment layer.
    5. Go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels
This creates a new levels adjustment layer using the selection loaded from
the duplicated channel and opens the levels dialog.
To load the RGB (composite) as a selection, Ctrl+click on the rgb in the channels panel
and the same is true for the red, green and blue channels.
With layer masks, elements doesn't seem to want to load them as selections in actions,
so that's the reason for the action steps above.

  • CS2 won't run

CS2 won't run, says activation code no longer usable. Been running win7 on this system 3 years. Adobe says it won't activate in win7. Well, it did, and ran just fine. what's up?

I assume when you say "Adobe says it won't activate in win7" that you talked to customer support....
A drive change could trigger the need for reactivation.  Did you tell them that you're running from a mirrored drive?
It sounds to me that they're being aggressive about trying to get you to upgrade when they should still be supporting you with active maintenance of their activation database.
But unfortunately if you can't get them to adjust their database you're out of luck.

I ended up putting it in DFU mode.  It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w.  I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.

The office I work in uses a very old version of ACT!, an accounting package. This package has a component called SwiftPage, an antiquated email system that enables us to email from the ACT DB. SwiftPage runs via the web browser.
Firefox just did an auto update (that I will have to find out how to turn off) and now SwiftPage won't run as it is not compatible.
Can I "roll-back" my version of Firefox or do I have to uninstall and try to re-install an older version?
    HELP!

Try loading and using the add-on from this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
Many add-ons do in fact work if you force them to run. The procedure to roll-back is given in this article: [[installing previous versions of firefox]]
Unfortunately the official Firefox policy is that you downgrade to 3.6 which is supported for a while longer, and not the now unsupported Firefox 4. If after installing and running the ''add-on compatibility reporter'' you still have problems there are ways around the official policy.
I think it is absurd that Firefox 4 may be used by tens of millions of users one day and a few days later those that upgrade to Firefox 5 should be not only told not to use a now unsupported browser, if they need to revert due to problems, but are actually obstructed in attempts to do so.
