My preloader's not preloading...

Hi all,
I put this preloader I found on a tutorial before my
animation but it's not really working. On the html page, the space
for the movie stays white for a long while, then finally the
preloader flashes for half a second and I get on the first frame of
my animation. Any idea what could be the reason for that?

Ok, that's an easy one. You have 22 sounds that export in
frame 1 and a number of other library items, all in all your first
frame has 3.6 MB! All of this needs to be loaded before your
preloader gets a chance to run. Your second frame has only a few
kilobytes to load, that's why the preloader flashes up for only a
short time.
As you have a quite complicated movie structure I can't tell
you how to improve that situation within your .fla.
What I would do is take out the preloader and put it into an
external file. I would then use the MovieClipLoader class in that
new fla to load that large swf.
Good luck

    The application called VirusScan that comes preloaded on the macbook will no longer open, claiming that it is corrupt and that I must reinstall it.  After looking in the app store it does not appear that said application is available for re-downloading. Is there a special, non-app store place where I am to go for this?
    Also, I installed MacKeeper about two-three months ago and am questioning its performance. Looking for input as to whether or not this application helps or hinders my system.

    I'll back up Csound on the MacKeeper thing.  In fact, I actually wrote the following about it:

    Remove is ASAP.  Do not use the provided uninstalled, as there are widespread reports of pop-ups advertising MacKeeper on your system after incompletely removing it.  Try this:

    As for VirusScan, Barney is right on the money that it does not come preinstalled on any Mac shipped new from Apple.  However you have gotten it, your best bet is removing it.  See my Mac Malware Guide for more information that will help you understand and avoid Mac malware without relying on anti-virus software.

  • How can i control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?

    Sup buddies,
    How can I control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?
    As the project grows in size the load time increases. How does one control not loading all images ,divs,elements etc. until they're
    needed on the timeline? For example some sections are off and only become visible when recalled. My projects slowly grow in size so loading
    all images , is counter productive . My other option would be to create separate htmls but that breaks the seamless user experience .

    hello, kiwi
    quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
    another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

  • The issue is related to firefox 3.5 but is also seen in firefox 3.6 the images rendered like a curtain effect if they are not preloaded and the page builds up in part rather than building all at once and showing

    When we traverse from one page to the other and this is not different php pages, its the same html page only dom manipulation. to show different gui one after the other. Now on these screens there are some images that are preloaded like loaded upfront and some are pulled at run time when user visits that screen. All images that are pulled on run time show a curtain effect. This is problem number 1, we cannot preload these images since the systems are having only 250mb ram.
    Now the other problem is that when the user goes from one screen to the other the entire screen builds up in one shot on ff 1.0.8 but on ff 3.5 or 3.6 it builds up in parts
    Do we need to change some configuration in firefox so that the curtain effect is eliminated, Is there a setting in firefox 3.5 that can make the rendering more like ff 1.0.8 or ff 2.
    Is there any different that you suggest we do our dom manipulations or some ways that we should not do if that is the cause of the issue. This is very urgent since we are loosing users due to performance problems

  • CS3, MFC70.dll is missing JS Error - AQW.js, TypeError:AdvancedQueryWizard.preload is not a function

    Hi guys,
    BE SURE TO READ THE UPDATE BELOW....
    I have searched both Google and the Forums, but cannot find anything on this one.  Here is the history and both errors:
    Recently upgraded to new machines with an upgrade to Windows 7 from XP prof.  I personally installed the CS3 (web premium, upgraded from previous version) and all went well.  The only change was that I did not install all of the previous versions of Dreamweaver, like I had on my old PC.  I opened DW, pulled in all of my websites from the backup (work as a web developer/graphics designer) and all worked fine.
    I left for Christmas vacation, remoted in a few times, so I know my laptop was fine, never lost power, etc., but never did have to open DW during that time.
    Got back this week, had to make a change to a page that contains the XMLFlashSlideshow (v3).  Opened Dreamweaver and got the first of two errors: "MFC70.DLL is Missing"  The message indicated a reinstall would take care of the problem.  I clicked ok, and then I got this error message:
    While executing onLoad in AQWLoad.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occured:
    At line 60 of file "C:/Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS3\Configuration\Startup\..\Shared\AQW\AQW.js": TypeError:AdvancedQueryWizard.preload is not a function
    When I clicked OK, the message appeared again immediately.  I clicked ok again, and Dreamweaver began to open.
    I figured I could make the change and troubleshoot after, but when I went in, I could not longer see the box I normally see to click on to edit for the slideshow.  These error messages occur every time I open Dreamweaver, even after a reinstall.  I did not have this page, nor even this site as the default when first opening DW when the errors first occurred.
    UPDATE:  These errors do not seem to occur the first time Dreamweaver is run, be do occur each time afterwards.
    I have also noticed that I cannot print from Word 2007 to the Adobe printer driver as I always have.  Not sure if that is related or not.
    Any ideas, anyone else run into this?
    Thanks for anything help you can send my way.
    Thanks,
    Suzanne

    For the JS error: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405604.html
    If mfc70.dll is really missing, that is a core Windows file.  If you need to fix that you need to have your Windows 7 disc ready and run "sfc /scannow" in the command prompt.  You may need your Windows 7 if the file cannot be repaired and has to be restored.  This can affect all aspects of your system and not just Dreamweaver if there is really a problem there.
    The Word -> Adobe Printer is another issue.  You may want to post that in the Acrobat forums along with the version of Acrobat Professional you are using.

  • Captivate 5 and preloader: Error #1065: Variable CPPreloader is not defined.

    Hi,
    If I add a preloader swf (any of those which ship with Captivate 5 - in \Gallery\Preloaders\AS3) - then when I publish the movie - the flash player throws an error:
    ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable CPPreloader is not defined.
    Then (mostly) crashes the plugin (firefox) else carries on with the captivate movie.
    If I remove the preloader - all is fine again. I've tried every preloader swf, pretty much every option I can think of in publish settings.
    Windows 7 64, I've got Flash 10.2.153.1 (debug). It looks to me like an error in the code written by Captivate, but if that were the case, I'm sure I would find some mention of the problem or the var CPPreloader elsewhere!
    Anyone else seen this? Know how to make it go away??
    Cheers

    Are you adding preloaders from these locations?:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5\en_GB\Gallery\Preloaders in 32bit systems
    or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5\en_GB\Gallery\Preloaders  in 64bit systems
    You mention you're using the debug versiion of Flash Player.  Have you tested the published output on a system that IS NOT using the debug Flash player, just a normal Flash Player version?

    Hi, I want to downgrade from OSX LEOPARD to OSX TIGER but I have a few questions regarding this. My iMac is originally from Sep 2007 it came preloaded with tiger. I have original install (2) tiger discs version 10.4.10.  I want to know if it is safe and what are the necessary steps to do so. Also by downgrading im wondering if a lot of apps nowadays support tiger for example I have photoshop version 5 and 4 these are very important to me. One last question does anyone know of any reliable virus protection for mac that doesnt slow down your computer? because I have read that a lot of them do so. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it! Here are the specs for my iMac

    Most of the time a perception of general slow performance is the result of installing third party junk alleged to speed up, "clean" or "optimize" your Mac, or to look for viruses that don't exist. Ideally you would know what you installed so you can uninstall it, but if you don't know or aren't sure there are techniques such as Safe Mode and creating a temporary user account to confirm that suspicion.
    If you open Activity Monitor it may show a process, or processes, that occupy a lot of your system's time.
    Slowness confined solely to web browser activity is often the result of an inexorable progress toward websites that demand ever more processor-intensive tasks. If your slow performance is strictly limited to web browsing, you might try disabling Flash by either uninstalling it, or use utilities such as ClickToFlash that allow you to control what Flash content gets loaded. Flash in itself is not inherently evil, but there is nothing to stop websites or the advertisers who pay for them from writing horrible Flash code that can do everything from hogging 100% of your CPU's time to causing random crashes. You can watch Activity Monitor as in the above to correlate these troublesome web pages with performance degradation.
    You are correct; if your computer shipped with Tiger you may certainly revert to it. I forgot that Tiger was shipping on new Macs as recently as five years ago. To downgrade it would be necessary to completely erase your hard disk and boot with the Tiger installation DVD, followed by installing it anew. Such drastic measures are not necessary and you are unlikely to be satisfied with the results anyway.
    Assuming your system is free of third party parasitic junk attached to OS X in an ill-conceived attempt to improve upon it, that your hard disk drive is sound and the boot volume has enough free space to work with, by far the best performance-enhancing improvement would be to add more memory. Buy as much as your computer can use and that you can afford. 2 GB is not that much any more.

  • I have an HP laptop preloaded with Adobe Premiere Elements 10. For whatever reason Elements will "run" on click, but not even open the load screen or anything and then act like I never tried to open it? whats going on?

    I bought my HP laptop in 2012, and it came preloaded with Adobe Premiere and Photoshop Elements 10
    It worked fine and I even made a few video edits back in 2012 but for the last year Elements just REFUSES to work properly
    I used to be able to open elements to at least the "what do you want to do?" screen
    But now It won't even open this...I have no idea why...
    If I double click the Elements application my computer slows down, bracing itself to load, and then ....thats it....it reverts to its normal speed and elements just doesn't open...
    Any help would be great cause I feel like I've exhuasted all self-troubelshooting options and need to either get help from the forums or take the laptop in before I smash it in rage

    Thanks for the reply with additional information.
    Recent history for Premiere Elements points to the program having problems when more than 1 video card/graphics card is
    being used by the computer on which Premiere Elements is running. This observation may seem contra indicated by the fact
    that you say that the program did work well about 2 years ago in the same setup. But other factors may have set in with regard
    to drivers, drivers versions, and driver conflicts. But this factor, does need to be ruled in or out.
    Can you disable one or the other card to determine the impact of this on your problem?
    But, of prime concern with regard to video card/graphics card is the use of a NVIDIA GeForce card with Premiere Elements 10.
    Even if your NVIDIA GeForce were the only card, Premiere Elements 10 will not work properly unless the NVIDIA GeForce driver
    version is rolled back to about May 2013. This may be one of the major factors here.
    a. Device Manager/Display Adapters and find out Driver Version and Driver Date
    b. Read the background information for the Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA GeForce issue

    Also see the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the matter - also with full details of the situation and how to fix with the
    driver version roll back.
    Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.
    Thanks.

    Add On...This NVIDIA GeForce situation is specific for Premiere Elements 10. You should not expect to see the problem for
    later versions of Premiere Elements.

  • Preloader not working in Internet Explorer

    Hi there friends
    I'm pulling my hair out! I cannot get the preloader to work in IE. It works fine in firefox.
    Here's the details
    Preloader is set to 5% and is the default
    Project is 66 slides in length, but I've had this problem with projects much smaller.
    The resolution is 1014x713, big I know, but is an average 16. k/s according to the stats
    Project has audio. All that audio is at least 0.1 second away from the start of the slide.
    Internet Explorer insists on downloading the whole file before playing
    I've seen this issue reported on the forums, but apart from the shifting of audio, I don't know of any fix.
    Please Obi wan you're my only hope...

    Hi there
    Your mention of "Surely someone in support must have heard about this?" seems to infer that you feel these forums are staffed by Adobe support personnel?
    Sorry, but that's not the case. It's user-to-user support. Once in a while we see one of the Captivate developers pop in, but you cannot and should not count on it.

  • Preloader Not Loading Until The Start of Lesson In Captivate 7

    I created a Scorm 2004 compliant lesson using Captivate 7. The file size is ~7MB. When I load and run the lesson on our LMS I don't see the preloader until 3-4 seconds before the file loads. I'm staring at a blank screen for about 45 seconds before anything happens. I have the preloader set at 10% but I can't get it to work.
    I loaded the file to one of our FTP sites and ran it on an html page and it does the same thing.
    Our customers are asking us why there is no indication that the lesson is loading and all I can say is it's a problem with Captivate 7.
    I upgraded to 7 because I was told the problem was fixed, but it's still bad.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Yes, it's set to look in the Cp7 preloader folder. I found this on a Captivate website and I think it answers the question.
    "As mentioned, preloaders are only really applicable for HTM/SWF output. But what you may not realize is that they will only work if the content is served from a web server over HTTP. Conversely, the preloaders will NOT work if the same content is served up from a LAN server drive over TCP/IP.  This is due to the fact that SWF preloaders need to communicate with the server to calculate and show the percentage of file currently loaded.  This communication works with web servers, but not with LAN servers."
    Unfortunately, Cp7 preloader is going to work on our LMS. I'm going to build a preloader class in Flash and call the Cp7 swf using that.
    Thanks for your help

    If you still have Captivate 6 on your PC, then make sure that the preloader in this Cp7 project is not pointing at a folder in the Cp6 install directory.  It should be using a Cp7 preloader.

  • Preloader Not Displaying In Simulate Download - White Screen

    Hello:
    I followed a tutorial on gotoandlearn.com and followed it to a "T," yet cannot troubleshoot this myself. I built a simple preloader in AS2, but when I simulate the download for a Flash website in Adobe Flash CS4, all I see is a white screen, then it continues to the website. I previewed the bandwidth profile and I can see that it's working it's preloading magic; I just can't see the animation.
    I looked through numerous forums and I am not using an components that are exported to the first frame -- at least that I know of. Has anyone experienced the same issue?
    My set up is the following (from Lee's tutorial):
    First Keyframe (action):
    var amountloaded:Number = _root.getBytesLoaded()/_root.getBytesTotal();
    preload._width = amountLoaded * 190;
    loadText.text = Math.round(amountLoaded * 100) + "%";
    Second Keyframe (action):
    if(_root.getBytesLoaded() == _root.getBytesTotal())  {
    gotoAndPlay(3);
    else {
    gotoAndPlay(1);
    Third Keyframe:
    stop();
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

    I'm still seeing a white screen
    I changed my code as you said to:
    Keyframe 1 (actions):
    var amountloaded:Number = _root.getBytesLoaded()/_root.getBytesTotal();
    preload._width = amountLoaded * 190;
    loadText.text = Math.round(amountLoaded * 100) + "%";
    Keyframe 3 (actions):
    if(_root.getBytesLoaded() == _root.getBytesTotal())  {
    gotoAndPlay(5);
    else {
    gotoAndPlay(1);
    Keyframe 5 (actions):
    stop();
    Also, what's NaN%? I'm not able to view the progress bar at all, because all I see is white, but I navigated through my site and accidentally returned to frame 1, and the progress bar read "NaN%."

  • Preloader not working when image scroller present

    Hi:
    I designed a .fla that involves a large panoramic image that
    I stitched together in PhotoShop, then imported into the library
    and made into a movie clip, I then have the movie clip of the
    panoramic load into an image scroller (the one in the components
    library) on the main timeline so you get the sense you are panning
    through the photo. Within the movie clip of the panoramic there are
    buttons in it that then call other movie clips to load another
    movie clip on top of the image scroller.
    code attached to the buttons is:
    on(release){
    _root.attachMovie("myMovie", "screen",1);
    _root.screen._x =10;
    _root.screen._y =425;
    My issue is the file is so large that I have made created a
    preloader.
    If I load the movie clip of the panoramic directly onto the
    timeline the preloader works fine...
    When I try to load the imagescroller that calls the movie
    clip my preloader does not work at all...
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    I will gladly supply you with any code you may need.
    Thank you
    Janalese

    Thank you for your information. It worked great as far as...I
    could build a preloader and have the movie show up on the screen as
    I wanted. Now for problem number two that has developed...
    The MovieClipLoader that calls external .swf file. This is a
    movie that has an image scroll bar that calls a movie clip that
    scrolls a panoramic photo. Within that movie clip of the panoramic
    I have buttons that then call other movie clips from the library
    using
    on(release){
    _root.attachMovie("myModelScroll", "screen",1);
    _root.screen._x =10;
    _root.screen._y =425;
    This is an example of what I am doing
    I have a panoramic shot that is in an image scroller, that
    panoramic is of a group of buildings each building has a button
    next to it. Those buttons then call up another movie clip from the
    library using the attachMovie clip to show another mini movie clip
    of what the building looks like inside, and what the purpose is.
    Issue:
    The buttons within the movie clip that is loaded into the
    image scroller fail to work. If I just load the .swf files into the
    browser it works just fine...
    but the issue is I have a huge file with an image scroller so
    I need a progress bar and a MovieClipLoader function.
    How do I now get the other code attached to the buttons
    within the movie clip that says attachMovieClip to work within the
    context.
    I am so baffelled as to why it won't work...
    Here is the code to my preloader and movieClipLoader
    My actionScript skills are very limited so any help is
    greatly appreciated but needs to be supplied in simple language.
    Thank you very much

              this.loaderInfo.removeEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, loadProgress);
         loader.nextFrame();
    function loadProgress(e:ProgressEvent):void
              preLoaderPercent = e.bytesLoaded / e.bytesTotal;
         loader.kolam.loadTxt.text = preLoaderPercent;

    You could say as3 is fixed for expected behavior. Why should an ENTER_FRAME event fire off before the document is even loaded?
    A preloader is always a good idea. Give it a try. Being there's no more as2 nonsense about using _root to gain access to movieclips and code, a preloader won't screw up your code anymore by being what we used to think of as "_root".
    Try building the stub as I mentioned and use the Loader class to load that SWF. Here's a tutorial.
    e.g.
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.events.IOErrorEvent;
    import flash.events.ProgressEvent;
    // init a new loader
    var preload:Loader = new Loader();
    // listen for loading complete
    preload.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, preloadCompleteHandler);
    // listen for errors
    preload.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, preloadErrorHandler);
    // listen for progress!
    preload.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, preloadProgressHandler);
    // load my content
    preload.load(new URLRequest("myContent.swf"));
    // handlers
    // handle complete
    function preloadCompleteHandler(e:Event):void
         // load complete! add to display list, remove preloader visuals, etc
         addChild(preload); // a loader is a display object, you can add it directly
    // handle error
    function preloadErrorHandler(e:IOErrorEvent):void
         // do what you wish if there is an error loading the SWF
         trace(e);
    // progress handler
    function preloadProgressHandler(e:ProgressEvent):void
         // display the progress in some way
         var bytesLoaded:int = e.bytesLoaded;  // current bytes loaded
         var bytesTotal:int = e.bytesTotal;         // total bytes to load
         // now do what you want, like ver a percent loaded
         var percent:Number = bytesLoaded / bytesTotal * 100;
         trace(percent + " loaded");

  • Preload works in firefox, not in ie

    Hi all,
    i create a swf called preload that load an external swf, it
    works only with firefox and not in ie.
    This is the code in preload.swf:
    import mx.controls.Loader;
    import mx.controls.ProgressBar;
    this.createClassObject(ProgressBar,"my_pb",998);
    this.createClassObject(Loader,"my_ldr",999);
    my_pb.move(350,300);
    my_ldr.move(0,0);
    my_pb.source = "my_ldr";
    var loadListener:Object = new Object();
    loadListener.progress = function(eventObj){
    // eventObj.target è il componente che ha generato
    l'evento progress,
    // ovvero, il loader.
    my_pb.setProgress(my_ldr.bytesLoaded, my_ldr.bytesTotal); //
    Visualizza l'avanzamento.
    my_ldr.addEventListener("progress",loadListener);
    my_ldr.scaleContent = false;
    my_ldr.contentPath = "/files/movie.swf"+"?cvc=" + cvc;
    where cvc, is a session coookie.
    I have to do this preload, because movie.swf contain some
    component that load an application in a flash media server.
    Someone can help me?
    thank you a lot.

    I test your preloader, work fine with opera and ie , maybe
    the problem is in your ie.Because here everything work good
    :)

  • Preloader works in Flash, but not after upload

    Hi all. I'm having problems with a preloader. When I test the
    preloader in Flash (using the simulate download option) it works
    like a charm. I publish and upload the file to the server...and
    when you visit the site, you just get a blank white page until
    everything is loaded. I have included the code. Please
    remember...it works correctly when simulating a download in Flash,
    but it does not work at all after upload. Any ideas?
    Thanks for the help!

    Naw...didn't work. I'm use CS3 and all the preloaders I ever
    did (using the same code) in CS2 worked fine. I'm creating the .swf
    using Actionscript 2.0 (not 3.0). Is there a problem when the
    document gets published with CS3 which would stop the preloader
    from working on the server?
