My satellite modem failed and I tried to use my airport extreme Modem

I had a modem failure on my satellite modem and tried to fall back to dial up with my older airport extreme with a built in mode.
I was able to set up the telephone umber and user name and password on the extreme but if it connected (the only way was in automatic mode) it corrupted the display on the menu bar and failed after about one minute.
I am using Lion on a MacBook Pro
Questions is the modem on airport extreme still supported?

Connect the Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> Ethernet ports on the Xfinity modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express.
Power on the Express for a few minutes, then hold in the reset button on the back of the device for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Open AirPort Utility
Click on Other Wi-Fi Devices
Click on AirPort Express
The utility will suggest a setup similar to the illustration below, except that you will see a more up to date picture of the AirPort Express
Network Name......Type in the exact same wireless network as the Xfinity modem/router
Base Station.........Type in a short, simple name that you want to call the AirPort Express
Password..............Type in the same password that your Xfinity networks uses
Verify....................Verify the password
Click Next
The utility will set up everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done
The setup above assumes that the Xfinity modem/router is using WPA2 Personal wireless security, which is the industry standard.

I can see the MacBook Pro on the G5 and vice versa, I have file sharing turned on both, as well as Screen Sharing. The mac help is: Finder window/Help/Mac Help. It provides answers to a lot of common questions, including file sharing.
As for the ethernet cable, you can either buy another one (inexpensive and available in many places including Walmart), or just unplug it from your modem temporarily and plug it back in when you're done.
As for Target disk mode, take a look at this Apple article:

As I mentioned, I prefer using the ethernet/file sharing method if I need to copy a lot of files; however, there is another way around if you have an external drive and just want to copy one or two files. Just plug the external into one computer, copy the file onto it, unplug, plug into the other computer and copy.

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images! Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

I reinstalled AirPort 5.5.3 which worked, but the app still won't launch but iTunes now recognizes my AirPort Express, I just hope I don't want to change its settings.

I am trying to connect an airport extreme to extend my wifi coverage and it doesn't work

I have an Apple Airport extreme gen 5. I have a BT router/modem that I connect to my broadband and its signal is OK but not great. I have multiple apple devices, a windows PC, and a Panasonic smart TV.
I also use Belkin poweline adaptors to attach the TV and apple TV to my network - its flaky.
I was trying to attach the airport extreme to a powline adaptor in the lounge to extend my wireless network - it was green for a while but then flashed orange and stopped working.
I have now reattached it directly to my router in the same room with an Ethernet cable and still get the orange light and the airport utility keeps asking to attach to the WAN port but then nothing works - I can still acccess the internet through my existing bt modem/router.
Any ideas please?

Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Make sure that the setting for Wireless Mode is set to Create a wireless network
The Wireless Network name would be the same name as the BT network
The Wireless Security would be the same setting that the BT router is using....should be WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA Personal
The Wireless Password would be the same password as the BT network
Verify Password
Click the Internet icon
Click the Internet Connection tab just below the icon
The setting for Connect Using should be Ethernet
The setting for Connection Sharing should be Off (Bridge Mode)
Click the Update button at lower right of the window and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Power off both the BT modem/router and the AirPort
Wait a minute
Power up the BT device first for a few minutes
Then, power up the AirPort
Everything above is a "quick fix". If that does not work, we will have to start all over again from scratch.

Did you remember to completely power cycle the entire network?
You would want to do this after any update or change to the network.
If you did not do this yet......things are out of sequence.
Power off everything on the network.....all devices.....power down order is not important
Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first and let it run a minute or two by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Work your way out on the network starting each device about a minute apart
Check the network

The challenge with the older round AirPort Extremes are that they are "g" wireless devices.
When you configure them for WDS, the speed on the wireless network is cut in half...and probably will not have the bandwidth required to stream video reliably from either AirPort Extreme since both are affected by the WDS setup.
There is not an "automated" setup for WDS. You have to do this manually on both AirPort Extremes. Unfortunately, it is not an easy configuration and it's easy to make a mistake and hard to recover without starting all over again.

Adding a single AirPort Express will unfortunately not help. You have to have "n" wireless devices at all router points.

It could be that someone has accessed your AppleID/iCloud account with out authorization. Or it could be that you forgot to remove find my iPhone form a phone that your previously owned.

As Ocean20 say, your only shot at recovering the photos and data is to restore from a backup (with iTunes if you took the backup with iTunes, through iCloud if you took the backup through iCloud).
The erasure is to prevent your data from falling into the hands of somebody who takes your phone and eventually guesses your password. If you feel that the inconvenience caused by this feature and your friend outweighs the trouble that somebody could cause if they got possession of your contacts and other data, you can change this behaviour.
Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Erase Data > OFF

And there is the problem. Your pictures are opening up in Mac's own Preview app.
Do you want all your jpegs to open in Photoshop, or only when you are in Bridge?
Selecting a program to open a certain file is called: File Type Association.
You can choose this at the MacOS level or the Bridge level.
Here's how to do both:
Either MacOS or Bridge has the wrong app associated with the jpeg. Let's start with MacOS
Close Bridge and Preview. Select one of your jpegs, and press Cmd i, That will bring up the file info window.
Go down to the "Open with" section of File Info.
Choose Photoshop CS4 and click on the Change All... button to apply this choice to every jpeg on your Mac.
Then open Bridge and see if double-clicking opens it in Photoshop.
Now that means all jpegs on your Mac will open in Photoshop. Maybe you don't want that.
You can set your jpegs to open in Preview when Bridge is closed.
When you open Bridge, there is Preferences > File Type Associations where you can direct Bridge to open the jpegs in Photoshop when you are viewing in Bridge.

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

The foot pedal also seems to have an on/off switch that activates when it's depressed all the way. How do I set that up in Mainstage? Can I cycle between and effect and a volume pedal, for example?
