My superdrive keeps ejecting even empty.

My supredrive keeps ejecting without having any disc in.
I also figured that everytime the mac feels a hit around it or in the keyboard... like a hard one...
then u can hear the superdrive ejecting.

I've been fighting this same problem. It got worse after installing 10.5.6.
But I think I found a remedy. I've posted it here:

  • My external Superdrive keeps ejecting.

Hi, I have recently gotten an external Apple Superdrive and it keeps ejecting. I've only had it for four days now. The problem is when I try copying CD's onto my iTunes library. It happens on complete random CD's, no matter how clean they are. I've even tried a few brand new CD's and it did it. It happens when it gets to the last 2-6 songs on the disc, depending how many songs are on the disc. I can hear the whirring of the CD slow and suddenly the disc ejects. It has been doing this since the second day I've had it, but has been happening more frequently now. Is my Superdrive faulty? Or is this just error they have?
Also, it has been giving me slow speeds when importing CD's between 4x to 10x on brand new dics. My old computers built in drive had speeds 2 to 3 times this much.

Return it for one that works.
    Ciao.

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting disk on Mavericks sign on.

I've just installed a fresh copy of Mavericks and have a strange problem.
My Apple Mac Pro "Eight Core" 2.4 (2010/Westmere) boots up fine until it gets to the Mavericks sign on screen and if there is a disk inside the superdrive then ejects it. I have 1 superdrive and a MCE Blu-Ray drive and both behave in the same manner.
So, I booted up from my old LM and it doesnt do it, I cant ever recall my Mac doing this in LM, Lion or SL, Leopard.
My Mavericks install has various software installed on it and thought it may be one of the apps playing up and causing the disk to eject. I formated a new drive and installed Maverick on it and it still ejected the disk.
So, software ruled out! I set about resetting my NVRAM & PRAM still didn't cure it.
Booted up in Safe Mode and still the same.
Ran Apple Hardware Test (AHT) no problems found.
Ran pernissions repair and still keeps doing it.
I know the simplest thing would be not to have a disk inside the drive but it's little things like this that eeeeerrrrrr!!!!!! you know what I mean!

Not sure which iMac you have or what OS X it is running, but
If your iMac is running Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks, use OS X Recovery instead of the Install Disc.
see > OS X: About OS X Recovery
If your iMac is running Snow Leopard or earlier, then something is wrong with your Superdrive or your Install Disc.
If other DVDs and CDs are working in your Superdrive, then contact Apple Support and order a new Install Disc.
    see > http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
If no DVDs or CDs are working in your Superdrive....?
    1. Try the steps, at > Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive
    2. Try cleaning it with a Lens cleaning kit. example > Memorex-CD-DVD-Player-Laser-Lens-Cleaner
    3. Contact your local AASP and make a service appointment. see > https://locate.apple.com/

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting dvds during wake up or reboot

    Hi,
Ive noticed annoyingly that if I have a dvd in my superdrive (tried with other discs and same problem occurs) whenever I wake the computer from sleep or start it up from a shut down it always forces the disc to eject. I can hear it start spinning the disc and then slow down. It repeats this about 3-4 times before ejecting the disc. Once the disc is in there it reads it fine. Even if i close the lid of my macbook pro and open it it sometimes ejects the disc.
Everything is up to date so what is the problem? any help would be appreciated

The disks are from Red Box. They look like commercially purchased DVDs. The thing is, some of these are new releases and they have very few scratches on them compared to anything that we have been playing in them. What's odd to me is that it will play the old, scratched DVDs that I've played a hundred times in this machine already, but that it seems to be having problems with the newer DVDs. I'll try some airspray, as suggested, and let you know what comes of it. I almost wonder if it's not a software thing though, as it appears to be recognizing previously played (on this machine) DVDs.

  • DVD Superdrive keeps ejecting discs

My trusty old PB G4 has just started to eject discs from the dvd superdrive. I've tried various discs (mainly cd-r) but for some reason it squeaks and squawks then ejects the disc????
Could this be a media problem or perhaps.......a hardware problem?
    Any thoughts gladly appreciated.
    Dan

I'm having this problem with my 2.5 Penryn Macbook Pro
And I had the same problem with my last mac which was a 2.8 24" silver iMac.
I took it to be repaired, they replaced the superdrive, and then I sold it on. But now the person i sold the iMac to is saying they are having the same problem.
It must be a fault with Apple's superdrives. My external firewire slot loading burner works perfectly.
Unfortunately I'll have to use that and wait until I buy my next mac before i can take this one in to be repaired. Hopefully they dont just replace the drive with another one of the same model.
I found a solution for this problem with old powerbooks:
    http://bura-bura.com/blog/archives/2005/07/11/a-fix-for-my-superdrive-problems/
But no success with my MBP

  • On my iMac the superdrive keeps ejecting my blank DVD.  What's the fix?

    It's a DVD-R Verbatim disk.  What's the fix?
    Thanks.

First thing is try another brand of DVD-Rs. Some are more reliable than others.
If that doesn't work, does it eject CDs as well? Movie DVDs?
Let us know, we'll keep working with you.
    Best of luck.

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting disc

I have a 1 ghz 17"powerbook, matshita UJ-815 superdrive, running 10.4.2 and all the latest updates, I have run disc first aid, checked and deleted the duplicate fonts, reset the PRAM, restarted with the disc in, re-inserted the disc numerous times in a row, All to no avail, evertime I insert anytype of disc, after about 35 seconds, and a few "reading disc" type of sounds, the disc ejects, this applies to anytype of disc, cd's dvd's new, already burned, etc. I have tried them all. I have read a few other posts about people having the same problem. Apple care has run out, and the nearest apple store is 2 hours away. Any recommendations, I am considering purchasing a new superdrive from here :
    link
    And then follow this procedure:
    http://www.pbfixit.com/Guide/55.8.0.html
Any advice before I proceed would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

I have used the procedure below 4-6 times in the last 6 months, has always worked until this go around tonight. I don't see any other suggestions.... so it might help.... I'm trying again now.
Note: I'm using 10.4.2, but no relationship to software recent software install or upgrade... just decided not to work.
•I did read an apple note that changing batteries while unplugged an asleep can mess with power manager...... and that seems to be the case when the disk is quietly never being accessed before eject....
I have the same 17 1ghz powerbook, and just fixed this problem for 2nd time in 6 months. (No clear idea why it happens.... from posts it appears that power manager/battery processes sometimes fool the drive into thinking it must act that way)
anyway, I followed ALL of the suggestions posted in these discussion areas, none worked alone... this is the order that did it.
    1. Reset PRAM by restarting holding down apple-option p-r until 2nd restart sound
    2. nvram reset (see this post)

    3. power manager reset-
    shut down, unplug, pull battery
    - hold down apple-option-shift-power button
    - release, then replace battery
    -restart

PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.5GHz)
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.
    this worked..... good luck

  • Internal iMac superdrive keeps ejecting discs

The Superdrive on my iMac will not accept any discs. It just immediately ejects discs that I insert. This happened before about a year ago, but I forgot how I got it to work, and I can't find the thread here.
Thus this request: What do I need to do to get the Superdrive on my iMac to work again? I already cleaned it out completely with the air duster. I know that there is some keyboard startup trick or something that needs to be done to reset something, but my brain is aging, and I forgot what it is. Obviously any helpful suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting

Hi i just purchase an iMac from a friend. When i try to insert a disc, the Superdrive will try to read the disc before ejecting it out. Tried with several other disc and same problem occurs. The iMac is late 2009. Anyone can help me on how to resolve this problem. Thanks.

    Good morning Sakerage,
If you are having an issue with your iMac not accepting optical disks such as CDs or DVDs, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
Get help with the slot-loading SuperDrive on your Mac computer - Apple Support
In particular the section titled Accepts discs but they don't mount or are automatically ejected.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Brett L

  • External Superdrive keeps ejecting disc

Ok, I've had my Superdrive since March this year and it's possibly seen around 20 - 30 discs in total.
Given that it's just over 6 months old, why the **** has it started to play up?
Cd's load and play with no issues but load any DVD and it just gets spat out.
Looking around the Apple (gated) community and it does seem to be an issue with these drives - funny how my old DVD player (and CD players) are all happily ticking away with at least 12 solid years of use each.
Any ideas people, before I take my sledgehammer to this seemingly worthless piece of crap (lost the receipt so it's probably a paperweight - my bad)?
    Thanks in earnest,
    Gary

If you are still able to play CD's, but not DVD's, you may have already changed the SuperDrives "Region Code" 5 times, that may be why it will not play the DVD's you are inserting.
DVD Player 5.x: DVD region codes:
Important: You can set the region code for your DVD drive only five times (including the original setting). The fifth time you change the code, it will be permanently set.
DVD Player 5.x: Change the region code of a DVD drive:
Determine the drive’s current region code
Choose File > Get Disc Info and click Regions.
Are these DVD's that you have burned?
If they are DVD's that you have burned, are you trying to play disks from different manufacturers?
Have you tried a number of DVD's to check that they ALL will not play?
You might need to wait for one of the more experienced forum members to help answer your question if these haven't helped.

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting blank dvds and movie dvds

I have a macbook pro which is about 1 year and 4 months old. I was burning dvds fine two days ago. However, today every dvd i insert ejects after 10 seconds.
Cds are able to mount and I can burn on them too.
I have searched all over the internet and I still havent been able to find a solution.
    Anyone else have this problem

i got the same problem now! working fine a couple of days ago and now i cant burn any DVDs anymore. My laptop is 5 months old.. i am getting sick of this laptop, it feels like something is always broken but after awhile (approx. 1 month) an update fixes it, but to destroy something else. So, i guess i will have to wait a month or two until i can burn DVDs again...Seriously, PC Laptops are more stable than this worthless laptop.. and this user forum *** aswell.. no one from Mac reads it and there are not many solutions in here ..only complaints like my message here....
    customer relations: very bad
customer satisfaction: medium but getting worse

  • Superdrive of Mac Pro keep ejecting when restart after about 6hrs

If I've unplugged keyboard/mouse/wacom bamboo - Superdrive never ejects when restart. I find out when I leave only the wacom baboo (latest driver installed already) plugged, somehow the superdrive keep ejecting. I've done the repair with the Mac Os X Install DVD, it resolve the problem for the day, but next day it happens again.
What could be the problem, do I need to buy a new tablet.
I never had this problem with the old G4.
I called Wacom, they never heard of this issue.
Someone out there had this problem before?

  • Internal and External DVD players keep ejecting DVDs

i have a G4 500mhz AGP mac (upgraded to a 1.6ghz processor via a NewerTech card) with an internal CD/DVD player (not burner) and i have an external LaCie CD/DVD burner (the LaCie CD/DVD burner is only about 4 weeks old and i've burned maybe 8 to 10 DVDs on it)
i have had NO problem reading any DVD disks until just about a week ago.. i had bought a new Graphics DVD and it worked the first time i put it in the DVD player... the second time it would not work... (((this was the start of the problem of the purple-ish DVDs not mounting))) so, i thought i had just bought a faulty DVD, they replaced it and the new one still will not work at all.. the DVD will NOT work in my internal DVD player AND it will not work in my LaCie external DVD burner/player...
the internal drive just spins for a few minutes and the kicks the DVD out... the external LaCie drive spins for several minutes, then i finally get a message saying the disc is not readable.
what i have noticed is that any DVDs i put in will mount as long as they have a silver surface.... if the surface is purple-ish color, those are the DVDs that will not mount and keep ejecting
even DVDs that i have burned on the external LaCie DVD burner will not mount in the internal drive OR the external drive...
as i said, all of the DVDs that will NOT mount are the one's with a purple-ish surface... maybe that has something to do with the problem....
something must have happened somewhere because these purple-ish DVDs did used to work... i even did a brand new install of OS X.4 on a totally seperate hard drive and these purple-ish DVDs STILL would not work...
even booted into MacOS 9.2.2 and the STILL would NOT mount....
    ANY info would be helpful...

i now KNOW that there is NOT a defect with the LaCie DVD/CD burner and there is not a problem with the purple-ish DVDs, but it is HAS TO BE something with the Mac or MacOS X software because i took the LaCie drive and connected it to my WindowsXP machine and ALL the purple-ish DVDs that would not mount on my mac computer WILL WORK on with the LaCie drive connected to my XP machine...
    any suggestions are appreciated.....
