My two iPod touch 2g(s) are both not working!

Yes, I know the iPod touch 2nd is ridiculously told. But I own two iPod touch 2nd gens. One "died" a couple years ago (shows the white screen of death), but I've still kept it for all this time. It's always stuck on recovery mode on iTunes, and every time I try to restore it, it fails midway, giving me an error.
I soon got another iPod Touch 2g, but it started acting weird two nights ago when it suddenly stopped responding to my finger swipes. The first one "died" because I foolishly attempted to jailbreak it. The second one that is acting strange was plugged into my laptop charging, until I tried to unlock my phone but it wouldn't work. The home button is working, but the power button is unresponsive at times and sometimes it only works when I press on it REALLY hard. As I said, it doesn't recognize my touch at all. The battery drains ridiculously fast as well. After all the battery drained out, I plugged it into the wall outlet to charge. It still didn't work, so I decided to back up my data to iTunes and do a full reset. The reset didn't really work, so I let the battery drain out again. In the morning, my iPod Touch gave me the white screen of death also. After reading online, I decided to try to hold the home button, volume up button, and power button until the Apple logo showed up. Magically, my iPod Touch was brought back to life! However, it still fails to recognize my touches.
I read online and many people suggest going to the Apple Store to get it fixed, but I don't want to pay $200 to fix that when the newest model is only $200 itself. (I don't want to get a new one though) Someone please help. Anyone know any ways I can easily fix this problem myself, or stores that can fix these problems inexpensively?

Just what error messages did yo get with the first iPod?

yesterday my iPod touch's home button would not work and to day it is completely turned off and wont turn back on and it is fully charged and when i connect it to itoons it dosent reckinise it

Given the information supplied, it sounds very similar to what happened to my wife's 4.  Locked up...came back on with a blank (bluish) screen...could here emails and text coming through.  It would get very hot as well.  Our local apple store tried two times to rescue it, ultimately rendering it complete inoperable.  I'm sorry to say in our case we had to buy a refurb and trade in the phone for $150, which actually wasn't a bad deal.
There could be other information I'm missing, but I would start with seeing if apple can restore your phone.  If they can't, then I'm pretty sure it's dead.

You likely have a hardware problem like a dead battery.  To rule out a software problem try the following in order:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod

If it still does not work that means that the update broke compatibility. That happens sometimes. You will have to wait for an update to either iPod's iOS or the dock's firmware.

  • IPOD TOUCH 16 GB: Internal Speaker Not Working. Help!

I recently purchesed an iPod Touch, 16GB, not sure of the generation, off of someone on craiglist.com. I checked it out with the person there before paying, and everything worked fine. The only thing I didn't check was the speaker. (I had tried it with the headphones in.)
The speaker does not work at all. I tried resetting, restarting, updating (says that the software is current on itunes 3.1.3), and nothing still. It's set on speaker only (tried both setting also). When the headphones are in the volume slider, I can adjust it, but if I unplug them the slider completely disapperars and I can't adjust volume on speaker mode. Music, Apps, absolutely no sound on speaker setting. Help...please?

You can look up what gen you have at http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
I don't know what else to try for the speaker problem. The original touches don't have a speaker, but it sounds like yours does, it just doesn't work.

  • 2nd gen ipod touch sleep/wake button will not work

Like the title says, the sleep/wake button (top button) doesn't work on my 2nd gen ipod touch. In short, I can't put it into sleep mode (I have to wait the one minute), turn it off to save the battery, take screenshots, or even reset it (without iTunes, anyways).
I don't have any guesses on why it's not working. It just stopped working one day. I don't see water damage (via the water damage detector in the earbud jack), and I don't think I dropped it in a way that would harm it (unless dropping it on carpet counts).
I should also mention that randomly, one day after school, I was messing with it, and the button worked. I think the battery had died, and I managed to turn it on then. It worked for a few hours (I charged the battery), and then it went back to not working.
The warranty's up (and I'm broke), so I can't repair it. I also want to point out that the problem started not long after the warranty expired. What, at this point, is my best option? Should I just save up for the newest model? Or would it be cheaper and more efficient to save up just enough for a repair? Any other options I should consider?
    Thanks in advance.

As I said, you can move on to Restore. Backup everything then Restore as New. Restoring from backup would just copy whatever software issue you may have. But it sure looks more and more like a hardware problem. Take a close look at the button to see if perhaps some dirt particles are stuck there.
You can also make an appointment with a Gnius at the nearest Apple store to have it diagnosed. Apple does not fix iPods, they just replace them with refurbished units, so it won't be cheap. Prices are here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You can Google for third part repair hops or do-it-yoursel kits.
    Good luck.

  • IPod Touch to iCal syncing does not work.

Can anyone please explain me what is wrong over here. As you can read here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1419?viewlocale=en_US all the entries in iPod Touch should nicely transfer to my iCal.
Go to above link, scroll down and read:
    "Syncing Events
In Mac OS X, if you are syncing multiple calendars, there is an additional setting in iTunes to specify which calendar is used for new events created on the iPod touch. In the Info pane, see the section labelled: Put new events created on this phone into the calendar: [calendar name].
When you create a new event on iPod touch and sync it back to the computer, it will appear in this calendar. This only affects new events, events you modify on iPod touch retain the calendar information that they had before."
How come I do not have this option? All my software is up to date. The only which I've got is regarding to contact, but no "put" button for calendar.

I'm having the same problem, and I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. Anyone else found a solution?
    I've tried:
    -restarting the iPod
    -restoring the iPod settings
    -repairing permissions on my laptop
-removing and reinstalling iTunes on my laptop
Absolutely no change - any calendar items I create on my iPod do not show up in iCal on my laptop. This used to work, before one of the more recent upgrades. Is there any way to downgrade my iTunes or iPod software, perhaps back to a state where this syncing issue will go away?

  • Ipod touch 5th gen tilt function not working

    Hi
I recently got a replacement (from apple) for my Ipod Touch 5th Gen 64gb due to the home button being broken.  It is running the latest software which I believe is IOS 8.1.1
Note - other than the broken button I had absolutely no issues with my old Ipod.
When I received the Ipod only 3 days ago I did the normal process of restoring from back up etc but have noticed that the tilt function is not working.
I have tried all the obvious solution - first being checking portrait orientation isn't locked, then resetting the Ipod via holding down lock and home button and finally I have done a factory reset and still have had no luck with this issue.  Is there an easy fix to this or am I going to have to go back to the Apple store?
    Thanks

If you successfully restored (went through all steps without error) to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • My iPod touch's headphone jack is not working.

I was in class listening to music regularly, when suddenly i pressed the play button again and there was no sound. i pulled out my Beat's jack and blew the ipod jack, which didnt help either. At first i thought it was my headphones, until i used my friends earphones in my ipod and there was no sound either. i went home, took a Q tip and turned it inside the jack many of times, and there was still no success. i even updated the firmware and restored my ipod, but there was no solution. is there no way of fixing this ?
