My wife's MacMini won't connect to the internet

We have a wireless setup working through an Airport Express - my iMac, my wife's Mini, her iPad, and an HP printer. Overnight her items stopped contacting the internet and printer. The message was "the WiFi has a self-assigned IP address" that is different from the IP address on my iMac (my connections work fine). By changing her IP address manually (to approximate mine) I got it to address the printer but still no internet. Some details:
My WiFi IP address: 184.57.150.132.
Airport Express IP and Lan address: 184.57.149.143
Her (former) IP address: 169.254.62.150
Her address (changed ) to reach the printer: 184.57.150.135
Complicating things: until yesterday the Airport Express was hooked through an old router we used for hardwired internet, thence to the Time Warner cable router. My Apple "IT consultant"  son disconnected it and hooked AE directly to the TW router. My iMac apparently compensated for this with no problem (I have 10.10.1 OS). Her Mini is at 10.9.2 OS. With no internet connection I can't update her machine.
Any suggestions on how to reach the internet on her machine will be greatly appreciated.

My Apple "IT consultant"  son disconnected it and hooked AE directly to the TW router.
Your son made a network error.. and you should tell him so.
You cannot replace a router on a cable modem without some careful setup.
I can see from your IP address that the Express is setup wrongly. It is in bridge mode.. it should be in router mode.
Go to the Airport utility.. you may or may not be able to reach the Express.. but if you can click on the device and then edit.. go to the Network tab and change the setting from off (bridge mode) to dhcp and nat.
If you cannot actually reach the express which is highly possible.. you will need to hard reset it. And you might be reluctant to do that without help.
Is the old router still a goer?? As an easy solution.. try putting it back into the network.. plug cable modem to wan port of the router and plug the Express to the router LAN port.. then you will need to power everything down.. wait say 5min and power up the modem.. then wait 2min and then the router.. another 2min wait and then the express. No luck try a longer power off on the modem.. say 20min.. it has to relearn what is connected.. ie the router and not your computer.
Or just ring your son.. get him to read the post and explain that your computer has captured the Public IP because the Express is bridged and it is a pure modem not a modem router.. the express therefore must be in router mode to work and everything needs to shut down and restart to get rid of the current dhcp lease on your computer.

    Hello Rattisate,
Sorry to hear you are not able to connect to Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro.  I would be concerned about this too.  You can find information on how to troubleshoot this in the following article:

  • My iPod Touch 2nd generation won't connect to the Internet

After restoring my iPod Touch 2nd gen to factory settings because that's what iTunes advised me to do after doing the iTunes update a week ago, my iPod won't connect to the internet anymore. I was able to connect to our wifi but it won't go to any website, to iTunes, etc. I'm 100% sure the problem isn't our wifi because I'm using it right now with my laptop so it's not the wireless problem. Before restoring my iPod to factory settings iti has always worked and I never had a problem connecting it. I tried restoring it again but it still didn't work. I already also reset our router but still no luck. I wish someone could help me asap!! Thank you.

    You can try:
    - reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off an then backon your router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • My iPhone 5 won't connect to the Internet.

I have a factory unlocked iPhone 5, and I had my regular-sized SIM cut to fit the iPhone 5, since the nano SIM is not available yet in my country (Venezuela). The SIM works, I get messages, calls, etc. But it won't connect to the internet unless I'm on wi-fi. I've tried in different places, with full 3G signal, but it doesn't work. The weird thing about this is that I get Whatsapp messages (and I can send them as well), I get notifications from Instagram and Twitter, but it won't let me, say, enter my Twitter profile, or load Instagram pictures. It won't load any kind of internet content, neither with Safari nor Chrome.
The phone (or rather iOS 6) doesn't seem to have any option to edit the APN, so I researched a bit and found the iPhone Configuration Utility. I used it a couple of months before with an iPhone 3G to set an APN and it worked. Only this time, it wouldn't let me create and install a new profile on the iPhone 5. It would let me install the old profile I had for the Iphone 3G, which had the same APN settings I was trying to use now (both from the same carrier) but it didn't fix the internet issue. I also tried the Unlockit method, but it didn't work either.
What bothers me is that I've seen in a few websites screencaps of the Mobile Data screen, and it shows an option to configurate the APN settings in the phone itself, but mine's missing it.
I'd really appreciate if you could help me out, or at least give me a hint of what could be causing this. I've tried almost everything, and I've read a lot of posts here, but I haven't found anything useful. Thanks in advance.

In addition to what ChrisJ4203 said about cellular data, check your carriers website, it may need you to enter APN settings to allow internet access over cellular.
Also does normal telephone calling & SMS work? Disable wifi to avoid using iMessage as a test. If the SIM is damaged or blocked etc it may not work with cellular data, does the phone give you any error messages when powering on?
Another thing to try is to back up to iTunes & check for updates to iOS - sometimes a carrier update can restore the cellular network settings.

  • My iPod 8GB won't connect to the internet.

My iPod won't connect to the internet. It says I'm connected to my Wi-Fi connection, but when I try go on Safari it says I'm not connected to the internet. I resetted my iPod and my modem but it didn't help. I tried everything to get it working, but nothing seems to work. Help please?!

  • Brand new HP Stream 7 won't connect to the internet

Took out my brand new HP Stream 7 tablet and set it up - and it won't connect to the internet.
Nothing obvious, but it reports that Wifi hardware can not be found.
I'm sure it's a driver problem - but since I can't get to the network from the machine - not exactly sure how to proceed (or whether its worth the grief - since I can just package up the box and return it).
If I go to the Control Panel - Devices and Printers - it shows a Device with my computer name on it, with a warning graphic indicating a problem, and when I click troubleshoot it tells me there is a problem with the Realtek Bluetooth UART Bus driver and offers to reinstall it again, but when I try I just get an error message telling me there's a driver problem and that the issue isn't fixed.
Have to wonder if anyone actually tests this stuff or whether they just ship it out without worrying about whether or not it works.

    Hello shaw44:
Have you tried disabling and reenabling the adapter?  Have you run the HP Support Assist which will perform some tests and it also may reset the adapter for you?
Another option is to uninstall the driver from the control panel on the desktop using Device Manager.   Windows should uninstall the driver from there.   Then, you can click "scan for hardware changes" and it should reinstall the driver.
As a last resort, If you were to get a mini USB to USB adapter or a male to female adapter (to use with the charger cord), you could download the file on anther device, transfer it to a USB flash drive and then copy it onto your Stream 7 tablet.
    Hope this helps.

  • My macbook won't connect to the internet even though my router/connection is fine

Two days ago my computer was fine. Since yesterday it won't connect to the internet. I've been in touch with my service provider and determined that my router is fine and everything is correctly connected. I've rebooted my modem, restarted my computer, taken dhcp offline and put it back on, repaired disk permissions... Not necessarily in that order but nothing had work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We've determined, then, that you use your cable rather than wifi for your signal. Approach this in an organized way:
    1. ISP. Check your ISP's webmail to make sure you can send and mail email using the webmail interface. If you can, that means your ISP can still send and receive emails - if only on webmail. Useful if your normal email is malfuctioning, like now.
    2. Modem. Unplug and reconnect your modem, and make sure the connection is snug.
    3. Cables. Make sure all of your cables and plugs are connected; it's easy to disconnect an ethernet cable while cleaning, or after random kicking.
    4. Connection wizard. Go to Mail/Window/Connection Doctor, and take down the results.
Most of the time, you can trace the problem after following these steps. If there's still no luck, provide detailed info on your results.

  • My iPad won't connect to the Internet while I'm in Europe, how do I connect it ?

Helpppppp !!!!??? My iPad won't connect to the Internet while I'm in Europe, how do I connect it ?

What is the difference between roaming and Wi-fi.  I'm going to EU in a week.  Your answer implies that if I use the Wi fI in the apartment I'm staying at for my Mac or my Iphone, I won't have to pay extra.  Do I have that right.  My carrier is ATT on my phone.
That's right, wifi is free around the whole world (except if you have to pay to access a protected network). It doesn't matter whether you're with ATT or Verizon. Beaware to turn off Cellular and Data Roaming as it is very costly if you don't have an int'l plan.  I think the cheapest ATT int'l plan at this moment is $25 for 50MB.
Also, you can text anywhere in the world for 50 cents with cellular and data roaming off.  At this rate, you're not going to be popping 50 text messages back and forth, but for a few, I find it to be very reasonable.  It's cheaper to text a fellow traveler than to call him/her at int'l phone rates.  The cheapest text plan is 50 messages for $10.  See ATT.com for other plans.
Another option to consider is Skype. With a wifi signal, you can call anywhere in the world for about 2 cents a minute.  When I set my Skype account up, they required a $10 prepayment.  At 2 cents a minute, that's 500 minutes.  While I think I set my Skype account up from Europe, I think it might be easier to do it here.  Skype works great on both my iPad and my IP.
