My wife spilled a gas of wine on her MacBook Air . Now it's completely dead, and doesn't even show it's being charged.... Any advice is welcome .

Liquids and electricity don't mix. Any hope of surviving a spill is based on immediately turning the device off, getting it as dry as possible, and then letting it have a lengthy drying period. Some people recommend putting it in rice to absorb moisture though I think that has its own danger. At this point your only solution is to take it to an Apple repair center and see what it will cost to replace the logic board - and to hope that was the only damage.
Sorry I couldn't provide better news. Check your home owners policy to see if this is covered (and if it is worth using). I have a specific rider on my policy for electronic equipment which includes full replacement value with no deductible.

  • Spilled a glass of water on my Macbook Air

I Just spilled a glass of water on my MacBook Air. I immidiately turned off the power and tried to dry it off. While drying I twice lightly tapped the power button trying to clean the spill. I didnt want to turn it on again. Anyways I dont plan on turning it on again anytime soon. What should i do? Do I have to get it repaired? If so, how do i do that. I need detailed instructions.

Take it to an Apple Store at once, unplug it, don't turn it on again.

My daughter just spilled 1/2 glass of water on her macbook.  What can she do?

Orient the computer vertically on its side so that water can drain out but leave the lid open as much as possible
Leave it that way for a few hours
Use a hairdryer to dry things out for another 30-60 minutes from all angles
Leave the device off all night with a fan blowing on it
Try to power up in the morning
At that point, the Mac will work OK, or you will know that you need to head to the repair shop
Or better yet, take the Mac to the repair shop first and let them power it up.

My iPhone 4s won't allow me to scan for any networks and won't even pull up wifi networks near by. How do I fix this?

Settings > General > Network > Reset Network Settings.
If that does not resolve the issue...
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

I just upgraded to a new MacBook and my wife is inheriting my old MacBook Air. How can I change the her MacBook Air to now be fundamentally hers? That is, so the House Icon under Users folder is her name and not mine? Also the default AppleID for purchase stubbernly remains my own.

You do not mention it, but I will assume you are running OS 10.9.1.
Go to: Apple menu / System Preferences / Users & Groups. Click the padlock and enter your password.
Click the + (plus sign) and set up a new account for your wife. You have to enter a bunch of info. And then create the correct Login Options. Automatic login does not require a password from the selected user.
When that is done, verify the account works by restarting the computer and login as your wife.
Make sure that any applications in your own Users folder that will be needed are moved to the Applications folder in your wife's Users folder.
Now go back to Users and Groups, click the padlock and authenticate, select your own account, and hit the - (minus sign). This step cannot be reversed, so you might want to wait a few days before doing it.
When your wife is logged in, the App Store will know.

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • If my wife has numbers on her macbook air can i download it on my macbook pro?

if my wife has numbers on her macbook air can i download it on my macbook pro?

If it was purchased on the App Store, then yes. But it will require the same Apple ID used to purchase it in order to re-download it onto your computer. The re-download is free.

  • My wife spilled juice on her Macbook Air (2012)

    Well, it finally happened.
She set a drink down next to her laptop for a minute and the dog knocked her class of cranberry juice over and it spilled on the laptop.  We managed to get it turned off and unplugged before it shut down on it's own.  I immediately turned it upside down and set it upside down V style to try and get the juice out ASAP.  It has now sat for 48+ hours and will start up to a gray screen and if we hold alt can boot from a network.  However, it is not recognizing the hard drive and I can't seem to find anywhere if this type of accident is covered by the extended applecare that we purchased.
Any help or answers are appreciated.  I would call Apple but my phone has also been misplaced/stolen recently, not having a super week lol.
    Thank you

The fact that the internal storage isn't found is not good, but if that is the only thing shorted or damaged the cost may not be too bad.  Only way to find out is by having the techs run their diagnostics to see what is bad.  And, again, powering it by the charger or battery isn't really good as if there are shorting paths more damage may be done.
If you were backing up the storage, this would be a good time to protect that since you may need it for restoring your data.

  • Trying to install Win 7 on MacBook Pro with OSx 10.9.3 and computer does not recognize install dvd

I'm using a 2009 MacBook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.3 and I am trying to install Win 7 using BootCamp 5. I've been able to install BootCamp before using the original Win7 install dvd on this computer but ever since I updated it (not sure how many time, its been a year or so since I last used BootCamp) and started using BootCamp 5 its been giving me problems reading the DvD. I know my internal DvD reader works because I've imported music recently but whenever I get into the very first step of BootCamp 5 (Download Support and Install Windows option screen) I click next with only install windows option checked and it tells me to wait for the DvD to be recognized when its already in. However it does come up with the option later to open with/eject the "blank DvD" which is the Win install DvD. Any ideas on how to get around this issue?

         a.  Downloading CS5 from Adobe.com requires pre-installing Adobe Download Assistant.
         b.  Adobe Download Assistant can be downloaded but cannot be installed because it requires pre-installing Adobe AIR.
         c.  Adobe AIR can be downloaded but won't install.  Sometimes it issues error msg saying it requires most recent version of Adobe AIR, other times there is no screen activity after attempting to install from <AdobeAir.dmg>.
    2.  There is no option to turn off automatic graphics switching in Energy Saver System Preferences on this computer, so that suggested solution does not work.
    3.   Turning off (unchecking) "Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep" has no effect — still unable to install AIR.
This is a nightmare.  The reason I bought this computer rather than a less expensive model was to run Lightroom (which did install OK) and Photoshop CS5.  HELP!

My suggestion would be to reinstall Lion from zero. No update.
I did that, and now I can install / uninstall Air without problems.
The installation takes about 20 minutes...

  • After making a note in a non wifi environment the note disappears when connecting the Macbook Air to the internet?

What kind of server are you using to sync Notes, if not iCloud?

  • My sister is using my wifi for her Macbook Air.

I have an Mac 24 desktop and my wifi is activated. My sister is visiting and I gave her my password to use the wifi, but everytime she closes the lid, then opens it again she has to request the wifi again. Is there a setting I must change or she must change to keep the wifi activated?

We've seen a number of threads on this forum pertaining to WiFi reconnection issues after the units awaken after sleep. Some users have reported that the problem was alleviated when they updated their systems to OS X version 10.7.3, while others have indicted that the upgrade did not solve the problem.
I can't say whether Apple classifies the problem as a "known issue" that they are hard at work solving. But I hope they are. I'm certain that related WiFi issues are being worked on though.
Here are a couple of things to try:
    1) System Preferences > Network > WiFi > Advanced > TCP/IP tab: Configure IPv6 "Link-local only".
    2) If you are wusing WEP encryption, switch to WPA2 on your router, and configure all the connecting computers to use this as well when connecdting to that network.

  • We are trying to update my wifes IPad on or Home computer but it is telling us her library is on another computer. We had a Windows 7 laptop when we got her IPad but now we dont use it and just use or home computer. How do we save whats on her IPad ?

    Any help on this please.

When you do a sync, you will be asked if you want the items purchased from iTunes Store to be copied to the computer.  I forget the exact wording of the message.
For anything that was not purchased from the store, you need to purchase an app.  I haven't needed one so I can't recommend any specific one or ones.  As I recall, they all sell for around $10.  Do a search of the app store.

  • Spilled water on MacBook Air and won't turn on...

Two days ago, I spilled a glass of water on my MacBook Air. I tried very hard to get as much water off, but the water spilled directly on top of the keyboard (no cover) and underneath the laptop itself. I cleaned off as much as I could, but it didn't seem to turn on. I usually close it and open it and it turns on (kind of like a sleep mode) but it didn't do that. I'm pretty sure the laptop fried the motherboard as it tried to turn itself on (without the power button).
I then tried hitting the power button, but it wouldn't turn on.
It's been a couple days and it still won't turn on. Several computer science majors who work at the IRT department at my university said the motherboard is most likely completely fried.
I want to take it to Apple to have them look at it, but I'm unsure whether it would be pointless at this point or worth it. It would probably cost more to replace and fix everything (if they can) than just buying a new laptop. I'm just unsure what to do, and unfortunately I don't have much time either.
    Any ideas or help??

I'm inclined to ask how old you are, but I'll refrain.  Take it to Apple, and let the Genius assess the damage.
