MySQLdb support in python 3 [SOLVED sort of ;)]

I'm working in a python app and I noticed that when I import MySQLdb it gives me the error:
Error loading MySQLdb module: No module named 'MySQLdb'
But if I run python2.7 and import the module all is well and no complaints.
In searching the forums I only found a related bug report from way back (2010) so I wonder if I'm doing something wrong... since I find
difficult to belive that I would be the ONLY one  having the problem if there is in fact no support for MySQLdb in python 3.
Any help would be appreciated.
R.
p.s
I have installed mysql-python, I wonder if I should be running instead the mysql-python-embedded from aur?

https://pypi.python.org/pypi/MySQL-python/1.2.4
MySQL-3.23 through 5.5 and Python-2.4 through 2.7 are currently supported. Python-3.0 will be supported in a future release.
There will not be any future releases, but see https://github.com/farcepest/moist

  • How do u get help from apple support with iChat? I was able to chat with support last week to solve my problem but now the same issue is back and I don't see the option to chat now?

qHow do u get help from apple support with iChat? I was able to chat with support last week to solve my problem but now the same issue is back and I don't see the option to chat now?

For what it is worth I have noticed a similar issue from the iPad3 while at work and home. At work we have two Apple TV 3rd Generation installed and tied to our A/V system. I believe the issue has to do with a timeout on the broadcast saying "here I am" and allowing devices to connect.
    For example:
At work we have several Wi-Fi SSID being broadcast from Cisco APs. The only one we can use with the Apple TV is the one that uses a WEP since the others are either setup to be hidden, require web page authentication, or have a login requirement from employees. Essentially, what I believe the issue is that the Apple TV periodically broadcasts a message to other iOS devices that support Mirroring. When the Apple TV does not get a response from a device it goes into a dormant mode and requires either a command from the remote control or a reboot. This has been tested with both the power management enabled and not enabled with the same results.
As for when I come home, the Apple TV3 has not seen the device in some time and therefore is not broadcasting it's location information. A simple click of the circle or menu keys on the remote will give it the command to start broadcasting again and allow the iPad3 to see the Apple TV. When trying to Home Share the computer can not play (iTunes 11, Win8RTM) until the Apple TV is awoken then it will show up for mirroing.
This may or may not assist you but, it hopefully explains how the issue may be happening.

  • [SOLVED, sort of] After nvidia upgrade, computer crashes at logout

My video card is Nvidia GEForce 6150 LE, rev 2.  After I upgraded nvidia  on 10/10/08, my computer crashes whenever I log out, and I have to shut down the power and reboot.  This happens on kde and gnome, and also when I press Control-Alt-Backspace.  I tried the new nvidia-173xx drivers, but they didn't work at all.  Finally I went back to vesa, and that works.
Last edited by cmlr (2008-10-11 23:29:58)

Problem solved, sort of.  I noticed that the Flint, Michigan mirror was 15 days out of sync, and I downloaded the old nvidia driver from there.  Now everything works fine, as before.  Here's the page that tells the status of mirrors:
    http://users.archlinux.de/~gerbra/mirrorcheck.html
Still, it would be nice to use the new driver.   If anyone else has this problem and has missed out on the out-of-sync mirrors, send me an email and I can give you the package.

  • Python-scipy vs. python-numpy [solved]

Up till now I have been using a custom package for python-numpy (the successor of python-numeric) and the AUR package for python-scipy (which depends on a working numpy installation). However, now the scipy package seems to be adopted and when I try to -Syu, pacman claims that python-scipy conflicts with python-numpy and suggests that numpy should be removed.
I won't do that, since numpy is vital to many of my applications, and I wonder if this was really intended.
Can anybody explain this to me?
    Niklas.

    Problem solved, works now.
I removed python-numpy, then re-installed python-scipy (which then automatically proposed python-numpy from community). Might have been some strange thing in my old PKGBUILD for python-numpy.
Anyway, thanks for finally putting both numpy and scipy into community!!!

  • [SOLVED, sort of] Yet another UEFI boot issue

    Hello everyone,
Let me start by saying sorry for the long (first) post.
I've ended up with a UEFI boot problem I can't solve. I've searched the forum and internet and I realize I'm not the only one who ran into problems with UEFI. Unfortunately, the problems other have had seem not similar to mine. I've spent almost 2 days now trying to figure this out, and I'm getting nowhere (though I've learnt some more about UEFI, which I guess is good). I was hoping someone here can give me some hints on how to proceed.
So lets start with the background. I recently bought a new computer (Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530 with Windows 8) and of course I want to run ArchLinux on it (been using ArchLinux for almost 7 years now and no plans on switching). Installation went ok with only a few problems during installation that I managed to solve (or so I thought). I must admit I didn't follow the guide fully. I didn't want to remove the Restore and Windows partitions, so I figured it would be safe to reuse the existing UEFI System Partition, as long as there was enough room, which there was. Anyway, I now have a computer I can boot into ArchLinux and also Windows 8, just the way I want it, almost. There is this one final issue I haven't been able to figure out how to solve.
    The problem
Whenever I reset/power on the computer, I must press Enter during the initial screen (showing a Lenovo logo, and a message about pressing Enter to interrupt normal startup). If I don't press Enter before the timeout (a second or so), the screen will go white and that's it. No beep, no message, no nothing but a white screen. A power cycle is the only way to leave this state. Occasionally the screen will be a white bar at the top and random colours below, but I'm guessing this only represents what is in graphics memory at the time (0x00, 0xFF or any other random value).
If i do press Enter however, then I'm presented with a menu where I can select what to boot; rEFInd (which is preselected) along with Windows 8 and some restore and diagnostic entries. Pressing enter will take me to the preselected rEFInd, pressing enter again (or wait for timeout) will boot linux, and I'm in. Nothing weird there. And if I select Windows in rEFInd, then windows boot, just as expected.
There is no difference whether I'm switching from Windows to Linux or Linux to Windows or just reboot the same OS I was using again. The result is the same whatever I choose to boot.
So the question is: Why do I have to select rEFInd manually and go through all these menus? Should I not be able to just power it on and let it boot the preselected rEFInd entry and continue from there, without me helping it?
    Trying to solve it
Searching here and on the internet gave me some ideas on what to try, so here is a list of my attempts:
efibootmgr show me there is a rEFInd entry, and that it is the first one in boot order
I copied refindx64.efi to /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi (replacing an existing entry)
I've updated the EFI firmware (from Lenovo) to the latest and greatest
One other guy had almost the same issue, but with a single boot of Windows. He solved it with Microsoft Boot Manager (there is an Automatic Repair, or something). I even dared trying this, though I must admit I was a bit hesitant about letting some Microsoft program trying to repair my computer. Anyway, it said it couldn't repair my problem, nor did it say I had one, so I am none the wiser.
None of the above gave anything.
So, that's it. I guess I can live with having to press Enter on every power up/reset, but it is very annoying having to do so, and even more so when I forget it because then I'm forced to power cycle it. I hope someone reading this can figure out what's going on, because I am clueless.
    Best regards,
    Johan

WonderWoofy wrote:@srs5694, have you thought about filing a bug report/feature request about the naming scheme here?  I would imagine that something coming directly from the upstream developer would be something that they should take into consideration.  Also, I imagine that renaming it to refindx64.efi kind of goes against the whole "vanilla packages" thing we tout around here... so it really makes me wonder why it is done in the first place.
    I've just done that:
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/33326
It's not been very important until recently; but I've been putting a lot of effort into the ancillary support scripts (install.sh and mvrefind.sh). They necessarily rely on the files having certain names, so installing them under other names robs users of functionality.
6feet5 wrote:I've decided to try and restore the whole unit, thinking it would take maybe an hour or two. It's been running now for almost 3 hours and only completed 20%.
    Good luck with that!
FWIW, it seems that the number of EFI-related bug reports on Linux forums has gone way up recently. No doubt this is because EFI is now pretty much universal on new computers, so problems that used to affect one or two people now affect dozens or hundreds, and some of those post about them.

  • Problem with python script [solved]

I've been trying to run this script (with wlan0 as my interface) and it spits this out. I'm guessing this is due to some sort of syntax problem and should be pcap.somethingelse(interface) instead of pcap.pcap(interface) but I have no experience with python so I'm totally clueless.

  • [SOLVED - sort of] display resolution woes after pacman update

When doing a recent pacman -Syu, I was asked if I wanted to change from mga-dri to libgl video. I (foolishly) chose the default (Y) and was informed mga-dri had been removed. After the rest of the update, I was unable to start X. Did some reading, configuring, and cussing - all to no avail.
Well, actually the cussing felt good, but the neighbors were less than pleased...
"heftig" and "falconindy" in #archlinux were kind enough to enlighten me that support for mga-dri had been dropped, and that I was probably stuck with vesa for my older video card and monitor: Matrox G400/500 and Dell M781p, respectively.
After a fashion, I was able to configure up an xorg.conf to restore X, however all I seem to be able to muster up is 800x600 resolution, which sucks, as both the card and monitor support 1024x768 and ran that with the old mga-dri.
Is it possible to return to the old mga-dri set up? If so, how?
If not, is it possible to get 1024x768 video with the present vesa driver?
FYI, I do no gaming or fancy-schmancy video stuff, though would like to be able to watch videos with either mplayer or smplayer.

  • [SOLVED (sort of)]LXDE crashes from login manager, not from startx

Recently moved to arch and wanted to try out LXDE... Well, no luck so far.
I am able to start lxde with startx by commenting out everything else in xinitrc and leaving only this line :
    exec ck-launch-session startlxde
As I expected it should, gdm picked up LXDE and added it to it's menu after I installed it. When trying to load though, it crashes and brings me back to gdm. I figured it might be a problem with gdm, so I installed slim and used the very same line that worked with startx, only to get the same crash that brings me back to slim...
    lxde)
    exec ck-launch-session startlxde
Has anyone seen this problem before? I've digged around the internets and could not find an obvious solution.

Removing pcmanfm got rid of the bug that was causing the crash. Apparently it's all that can be done until the bug is fixed upstream.

I'm confused by the presentation of these logs. Obviously they contain the accumulated results from many different sessions. Can anyone make sense of this?

  • Loemu PKGBUILD, need help with python dependencies [solved]

I'm having a hard time determining the depends for this python application. It uses gtk and glade, but namcap is unable to determine dependencies for python apps, I think. It complains that I am including not needed depends. I found a requirements list here:
    http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Utilitie … 4855.shtml
that might give some clues, but I'm still struggling to determine what's needed until I can get home and run the application.
My PKGBUILD in case you're interested and think you can help. I'm sure I need glade for python in the depends line, but I can't find it in AUR or with pacman.

Thanks for the response. I've added the working PKGBUILD to the AUR.

  • Photo Booth problem solved--sort of

Photo Booth hasn't been working on my new 24" iMac for weeks--at least 5 or 6 of the last 7 or 8 weeks that I've owned it. I've floundered for answers and have looked everywhere and never found a single answer to why it didn't work. At first it didn't work in any accounts. Then it worked in other accounts but not in mine. Then it worked in other programs in my account but not in PhotoBooth, which is the program I wanted it to work in. All all of that without my doing a thing! (I did reinstall the apps and updated the OS, but never by deleting my original OS installation. And even after doing all that, PhotoBooth STILL didn't work.
So tonight I was clicking around blindly trying to find a nonexistent PhotoBooth preferences file when I stumbled on this sequence directories:
    Macintosh hd
    Previous systems
    2008-07-18_1932
    Applications
    PhotoBooth
I clicked on the PhotoBooth listed there, and Photobooth started and worked! So I deleted the PhotoBooth icon in the dock and dragged the working and newly discovered Photobooth icon to the old icon's place in the dock. I clicked on it, and PhotoBooth worked! I rebooted my comptuer and PhotoBooth still worked!
I don't understand the whys and wherefors of any of this, as I've hardly had any time to spend learning the new Mac computer since I've owned it, but if any of you have a black screen when you start PhotoBooth, look first in the Previous Systems folder and then follow the directories until you reach the photobooth application listed there. Click on it. If PhotoBooth works, then you've solved the problem.
I don't know why the guy at the Apple store couldn't fix it and why there seemed to be no one on the forums that knew how to repair it, but I guess he lesson is clear: just keep on clicking!

Hi, P/Booth has been an issue at times. Thankfully you found the solution,,Well Done.
