Myst III Exile "output volume" error?

I have a Macbook running the most current version of OS X 10.4, and I am trying to reinstall Myst III to replay it. To install Myst III, you have to copy over all of the installation files onto the desktop first. Unfortunately, it is constantly giving me this error after I copy all of the necessary files onto my harddrive and try to run the program:
Error
Unable to obtain default output volume # -2004
I have copied over all these files, which are what the readme instructs me to copy:
'Data' folder
language.m3u
'M3Data' folder
manual.pdf
Readme Mac
Myst III: Exile for Mac OS X
Why is it constantly giving me this error? I cannot find any other examples of this problem on the Apple forums.

I guess I should specify that my disc is the DVD version.
Everything that article suggests I have tried, including moving the folder from my desktop to the Application folder, then to the harddrive and Documents folder, but I get this same error everytime. I have also tried it with the DVD in and out but I keep getting this exact same error.

  • NO OUTPUT DEVICE ERROR

Hi Guys Yesterday i reinstalled os x and my audio was working properly.....
But from today morning i got no output device error.....it also doesnot work in headphones.... someone do help...thank u....

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • R61 R&R won't start after "unmountable boot volume" error

    Hello all,
New user, first post - after problem, of course.
I have an R61 Thinkpad with Windows XP on it.  (SP2 or SP3, not sure).  Has worked flawlessly for years, then the other day I got the dreaded "unmountable boot volume" error and it would not start.
No problem - I re-start, hit the ThinkVantage button, then hit F11 to use the R&R hidden on a separate partition of the hard drive........I get the black screen with the big progress bar, ok, then a blue screen......then nothing.  Hangs up and sits there.  I have repeated this about 5 times now.
No problem! - I was smart enough to make an R&R CD set a while ago!  Put the primary R&R disk in the CD drive, start the machine, ThinkPad button, F12 this time to choose boot from CD.....much CD activity ensues and I once again get the black screen with the big progress bar.  It takes much longer, and I get teh blue screen - BUT - then it goes one extra step to display the "ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery 4" screen with the life preserver image.
Excellent, I thing - except it then hangs there.  Just sits there.  No disk activity.  No keys will do anything.
I can find no threads here or on any other forum with this particular issue.
Am I fubar?  Or is there something else I can do?
    Thanks a bunch.

Hi jim, welcome to the forums,
Is the hard drive recognised in BIOS, was there an entry in the boot list against HDD0?
Regardless of it being shown in BIOS / boot list or not, the first thing I would do is to reseat the hard drive and see if that helps, maybe over time it's lost contact to the mainboard socket. If you don't know how to do this you can find out at the R61 movies site.
The next thing I would do is run a hard drive diagnosis check from a bootable cd, these can be downloaded from all HDD manufacturer's websites e.g. Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test.  It may be that the drive has simply gone bad after all those years of work.
Let us know how you get on

  • Unmountable Boot Volume error in Z61T

    Hi Members,
I just encountered the the Error Unmountable Boot volume error(Blue Screen)  in my Z61T Think pad laptop.
I'm not sure what caused this error. Is it possible to fix the error?
I tried to go in to Recovery Console using XP CD and then repair the OS, but unfortunately when i go to repair mode i get another error which says unable to recognize the hard drive. Im really confused as of what is the exact problem with my laptop and also im worried about that data.
appreciate if anyone can throw some light in to the issue and help me out in fixing the same.
    Thanks
    Rajesh

If you believe that your hard disk/file system may be corrupted, try using any bootable diagnostic cd.They are operating system independent and will let you know if your HDD is getting corrupted.
Try the data life guard diagnostics(bootable).
    Cheers and regards,

  • "Unable to create volume" error when exporting

Exporting photos from iPhoto gives me the "unable to create Volume" error. iPhoto and Mountain Lion are the latest versions, and most recent updates. Library of 30,000 images is currently on an NAS. Destination drive is formatted Mac OSX Extended (Journaled, Encrypted).
Library has already been rebuilt. No change.
PNGs have been deleted from library. No change.
Tried batch re-titling every image in the library library, and exporting so that exported files were named according to title, followed by a number--thus no two files would have the same name. No change.
    Any suggestions?

Library of 30,000 images is currently on an NAS.
    Likely cause right there.
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • Increasing Output Volume?

    Hello all,
I have a 15" macbook pro that I purchased over the summer. I've noticed that my volume doesn't go nearly as high as my friend's macbook pro, and he has an 13" model that is older than mine. Is there any way I can increase my maximum output volume? I have already adjusted my sound settings in system preferences, but there is nothing to make it louder. Is there something I'm missing here?
    Thanks

If it's iTunes you're listening to, make sure the volume slider in the iTunes window is turned up all the way, then use the master volume controls (the F10, F11 and F12 keys) to regulate the volume. If the iTunes slider isn't up all the way, it limits the maximum volume that you can get by turning the master volume up. At least this has been my experience.

  • Output volume

I have to reset  the output volume in my System Preference whenever I restart my computer because it reverts back to some default setting whenever I restart. How do I change this setting?

Thanks, your message did help and gave me a little bit more knowledge about the world of sound which is becoming more complex than I ever imagined.
    But I want more volume.....
I have tried using the volume enhancer preset (hiFi) from the inserts of the output track and this has increased my volume, but my RMS is still only getting to around -14.
Any ideas on how to get more volume anyone?
And by the way, am I doing the right thing by using the output track to control my final volume output? I have found that the master volume fader on my TASCAM-428 will also define the final level of my mp3 bounces, and that they are basically interchangeable in terms of controlling output levels.
e.g. if i have everything all the way up and then pump my master volume fader on the Tascam to full, my file will distort.
    Thanks in advance (hopefully).

  • Capture runtime std output and error to logfile using dbms_scheduler

    Hi,
I am trying to replace my cron jobs with dbms_scheduler.
can we capture output of a job from DBMS_SCHEDULER to a logfile similar to cron.
As in cron, we capture output in logfile.
    30 18 * * * test.ksh > /home/someuser/cronlogs/clean_tmp_dir.log 2>&1
I am not getting any way to send std output and error to logfile in dbms_scheduler.
    I tried also ...
    dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value('test.ksh',1,'>');
    dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value('test.ksh',2,'/home/someuser/cronlogs/clean_tmp_dir.log');
    dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value('test.ksh',3,'2>&1');
But output not coming to /home/someuser/cronlogs/clean_tmp_dir.log.
    Any help?
    Thanks

    Hi Karam,
Unfortunately there is no good, easy way to do this. The Scheduler treats arguments as literal arguments so ">" is seen as a regular argument and not a redirection symbol.
You will have to create a one line script that does your redirection and then call that script from the Scheduler.
    Here's another idea. Write a redirect.sh script which takes three arguments: script_to_run stdout_file stderr_file
Then you can convert your cron jobs by calling this redirect.sh file with your script and the files you want to send output/stderr to.
redirect.sh will probably look something like
    #!/bin/sh
    $1 > $2 2> $3
    Hope this helps,
    Ravi.

  • Sound Output Volume Preference won't stick in newly reinstalled 10.6.8.

I recently re-installed OS 10.6.8 (from the retail Snow Leopard Install DVD, followed by the 10.6.8 Combo Updater) to my 2006 iMac (version 6.1) 24". Ever since, whenever I re-boot, the output volume of the internal speakers is set to a reduced level. When I bring it up to the level I like - that's fine, but only for as long as the session. If I re-boot, the level is once again dropped down to the reduced level.
I've reset the output level using the keyboard keys, and also in the System Preferences - nothing seems to stick. I've even plugged in a pair of headphones and set the output volume to be the same as my preferred speaker level, but still, nothing sticks.
I can't find a preference file to delete that is specifically for Sound Preferences. I've used Cocktail to search for a corrupted preference file, but that finds nothing as well.
How can I regain control of my volume setting so that it will survive a re-boot?

I should have added that resetting the P-Ram didn't help, neither did an SMC Reset.

  • Audio output volume setting

I'm trying this for the first time. I want to be able to record voice and instruments through a mic. When I open a new track, the output volume slider is 'greyed out", and I can't adjust it. I've maxed every other volume control I can find, but the output is muted when I play it back. Anyone else had this problem?

I want to be able to record voice and instruments through a mic.
if it's a regular mic plugged into the computer:

the output volume slider is 'greyed out"
what "output" slider are you talking about?

  • Applescript output volume consistently "missing value"

It seems that the output volume returned by the "get volume settings" applescript call is consistently the "missing value".  Setting the output volume to a different value "works" -- that is, the effective volume is set to the value I specify -- but the value returned by applescript is still "missing value".
    For example, the following script
display dialog "output volume = " & (get output volume of (get volume settings))
    set volume output volume 50
display dialog "output volume = " & (get output volume of (get volume settings))
gives me this dialog both times
    What's up with that?
    This is on Mavericks 10.9.0

Yes, I discovered much the same thing.  If I have my system/default output device set to my headset, then I get the behavior I described.
However, I also find that while the output device is "missing value" the other values, including muted, have proper values.
There is also no way to set the output device via Applescript (except by the distasteful method of poking they System Preferences GUI settings).  So there is no proper way of really controlling sound output via applescript.
But thanks for the prompt response.  If only the Applescript documentation were complete in this respect (unless I missed it somehow).

    BookCamp will not help
PowerPC is the processor that Apple used prior to switching to Intel. It is a very old version of Apple for which support has been dropped.
It is not Windows which is what BootCamp will allow you to install.
