Applescript output volume consistently "missing value"

It seems that the output volume returned by the "get volume settings" applescript call is consistently the "missing value".  Setting the output volume to a different value "works" -- that is, the effective volume is set to the value I specify -- but the value returned by applescript is still "missing value".
For example, the following script
display dialog "output volume = " & (get output volume of (get volume settings))
set volume output volume 50
display dialog "output volume = " & (get output volume of (get volume settings))
gives me this dialog both times
What's up with that?
This is on Mavericks 10.9.0

Yes, I discovered much the same thing.  If I have my system/default output device set to my headset, then I get the behavior I described.
However, I also find that while the output device is "missing value" the other values, including muted, have proper values.
There is also no way to set the output device via Applescript (except by the distasteful method of poking they System Preferences GUI settings).  So there is no proper way of really controlling sound output via applescript.
But thanks for the prompt response.  If only the Applescript documentation were complete in this respect (unless I missed it somehow).

  • Increasing Output Volume?

    Hello all,
    I have a 15" macbook pro that I purchased over the summer. I've noticed that my volume doesn't go nearly as high as my friend's macbook pro, and he has an 13" model that is older than mine. Is there any way I can increase my maximum output volume? I have already adjusted my sound settings in system preferences, but there is nothing to make it louder. Is there something I'm missing here?
    Thanks

    If it's iTunes you're listening to, make sure the volume slider in the iTunes window is turned up all the way, then use the master volume controls (the F10, F11 and F12 keys) to regulate the volume. If the iTunes slider isn't up all the way, it limits the maximum volume that you can get by turning the master volume up. At least this has been my experience.

  • CSS message missing values

    Hello,
    I'm using CSS to export trade spec data to a web service. I noticed that the Volume is missing in the Packaging Attributes section, even though it is on the Standard.xsl file within the Dimensions template. The length, width and height are being exported correctly.
    Also, I want to export the Net Weight for Pallet type units. I tried adding it but I get an empty tag.
    Does anyone know how to export these values?
    Thanks, in advance.

    Hello, Feng
    Thanks for your response. It is very helpful.
    I looked at the schema and I think that the Net Weight is there. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.
    This is the code in the schema for Pallet Weight in the Common.xsd file:
    <xsd:complexType name="tPalletWeight">
      <xsd:complexContent>
                <xsd:extension base="tWeight">
                     <xsd:sequence>
                          <xsd:element name="grossWeightNoBase" type="tMeasurement" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" />
                     </xsd:sequence>
                </xsd:extension>
           </xsd:complexContent>
      </xsd:complexType>
    And this is the tWeight complex type code in the same file:
    <xsd:complexType name="tWeight">
      <xsd:sequence>
           <xsd:element name="netWeight" type="tMajorMinorMeasurement" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1"/>
           <xsd:element name="grossWeight" type="tMeasurement" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1"/>
           <xsd:element name="tareWeight" type="tMeasurement" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1"/>
      </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    Does this mean that it can have the netWeight in the message?
    Let me know if I'm looking at the wrong place.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Display of missing values in a table view.

    Hi everyone,
    I have a table view with 7 columns and 10 rows which displays only those values which are missing in the DataBase Table.
    Is it possible to show only the missing values as '-' in a table view, the table view is having 7 different fields.
    Also when the value is inserted at run time the corresponding field should be updated accordingly and the value will no longer be displayed in the table view as '-'
    please advice.
    Regards
    Neo.

    Welcome to SDN.
    do you mean to say that in some rows some column values will be blank and you want to replace the blanks with '-'.
    loop thru the itab which you are passing to tableview and for the blank cells pass '-'.
    <i>Also when the value is inserted at run time</i>
    so you are having editable tableview. to update the value back to the dbtable, you have to read it in oninputprocessing and update it to dbtable .
    search the forum on how to read the user entered value from the table view so that you can update the dbtable.

  • How to map a missing value to a member?

    Hi all,
    Let say I have 3 dimensions in my data source file:
    Account, Entity, Product, Data
    A400, E100, P200, 10000
    A401, E110, P300, 20000
    A401, ,P400, 30000
    As you can see in the third record, Entity is missing. How can I map this to, let's say, No_Entity? In my Entity mapping table, Type: Like, I have tried using Null and Missing as the Rule Definition, but neither worked.
    Couple of clarifications: This is for an Essbase BSO cube. In my real case, the missing values are not Entity members, but 3 custom dimension members.
    Any ideas?
    We are on 11.1.2.2.
    Thanks,
    Mehmet

    You have a couple of options:
    1) Add a wilcard mapping to your entity maps which maps anything you have not explicitly mapped to NoEntity i.e. * --> NoEntity
    2) You cannot have an empty string as a source value so in your import format, associate an import script with the Entity dimension source field entry and check the length of the string of the source field as it comes in. If the length is 0 assign a value of NoEntity to be returned and map that source value explicitly inyour Entity map

  • Web Analysis: Percent Function & Missing values

    Hi All,
    Our users have made some complaints after we upgraded to Web Analysis (from Analyzer) where they're seeing 'Evaluation Error' on columns in reports. It was an easy fix for Sum'd columns where we treated #Missings as '0', however we're having a difficulty with the Percent columns/calculations.
    The main problem is users do not want to see a great big Evaluation Error in the middle of a report. Ideally we'd have something like N/A which was small and unobtrusive.
    I dont' think we can change the options for Missing Values in the Calc Def because each option presents a different problem: Exclude means divide by nothing, treat as 0 means divide by 0, include means divide by missing. All result in an evaluation error.
    Has anyone got any suggestions? The simplest sounding solution would be to somehow change the appearance of Evaluation Error but I don't know if that is possible.

    Gotcha. Ok. Have you thought about creating a new hidden calculated ColumnB whereby you multiply the values in ColumnA by -1 and then set your formatting based on the result in ColumnB. If the value in B is positive then you know A was a negative number so you can go from there, in a round about way? I don't have time at the moment to think it all the way out but something to think about. If your formatting involves just colors you could use Traffic Lighting to set the color on ColumnA based on result in ColumnB. Traffic Lighting out of the box is limited but it's a start until you have time to build your own.

  • Crystal Report "some parameters are missing values" while exporting/printin

    I am able to pass parameters from a JSP to a crystal report through CrystalReportViewer and view the report. (I tried doing it using the code provided on this help forum. I was getting a message: "Some Parameters are missing values". I had to add 1 line: pfield1.setReportName(""); for every parameter field. And It worked..)
    Now I can see the "Print" and "Export" buttons. But when I try to print or export the report, I get the same message "Some Parameters are missing values".

  • CRYSTAL XI SOME PARAMETERS ARE MISSING VALUES

    I have a huge problem with parameters in crystal reports XI.
    Iam developing using jdeveloper 10g and a jndi connection
    I use th following code into my jsp
    the report filelds are set correctly and they HAVE values
    but after the execution of the following code
    i get the following message
    ERROR SOME PARAMETERS ARE MISSING VALUES
    also I install both commonwinXI_chf and cXIwin_chf fixes from crystal and still nothing .Any solutions to this problem because Iam freaking out
    for once more crystal reports XI supports sucks
    my code:
    IReportSource reportSource= (IReportSource)session.getAttribute("reportSource");
    Fields fields=(Fields)session.getAttribute("reportFields");
    CrystalReportViewer crViewer=new CrystalReportViewer();
    crViewer.setReportSource(reportSource);
    crViewer.setParameterFields(fields);
    crViewer.setEnableParameterPrompt(false);
    crViewer.refresh();
    // my fields have values
    crViewer.setOwnPage(true);
    crViewer.setOwnForm(true);
    crViewer.setPrintMode(CrPrintMode.ACTIVEX);
    // if i set fields=crViewer.getParameterField then filelds variable is empty!!

    crViewer.processHttpRequest(request,response,getServletConfig().getServletContext(),out);
    crViewer.dispose();
    }catch(ReportSDKException e){
    out.println(e);
    }

    Sorry man sometimes i forget even my self!!
    In order to connect crystal with JNDI you have to set the correct parameters
    into CRConfig.xml
    for example
    <JDBCURL>jdbc:oracle:thin:@somewhere:ORA_DB</JDBCURL>
         <JDBCClassName>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</JDBCClassName>
         <JDBCUserName>username</JDBCUserName>
         <JNDIURL>t3://somewhere:7001</JNDIURL>
         <JNDIConnectionFactory>weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory</JNDIConnectionFactory>
         <JNDIInitContext>/</JNDIInitContext>
         <JNDIUserName>weblogic</JNDIUserName>
    also
    you have to provide the same info into file
    CRDB_JavaServer.ini
    [CRDB_JDBC]
    CacheRowSetSize = 100
    JDBCURL =
    JNDIURL =t3://somewhere:7001
    JDBCUserName = guest
    JNDIUserName = weblogic
    JNDIConnectionFactory = weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory
    JNDIInitContext = /
    I put both files into WEB-INF classes directory
    and finaly in both cases you have to include in your project the driver libs
    in my case I use weblogic therefore I have included weblogic.jar into my classpath

    Can anybody tell me why I am getting this error??
    Any help will be appreciated.

    The problem may be that you are setting your report date parameters as a string when you pass the value to the report.   If the JRC does not recognize the parameter value as the correct type, it will throw the error you see when trying to pass them to the report.
    If they are a date type or a date time type in the report, they must be set as such using the Java Calendar object.
    Below is an example of how one would pass a date parameter to a report:
    //DATE VALUE PARAMETER.
         Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
         calendar.clear();
         calendar.set(2004, 1, 17);
         Date dateParamVal = calendar.getTime();
         pfieldDate.setName("dateParam");
         pfieldDVDate.setValue(dateParamVal);
         //Add the parameter field values to the Values collection object.
         vals5.add(pfieldDVDate);
         //Set the current Values collection for each parameter field.
         pfieldDate.setCurrentValues(vals5);
         //Add each parameter field to the Fields collection.
         //The Fields object is now ready to be used with the viewer.
         parameterFields.add(pfieldDate);
         //DATE-TIME VALUE PARAMETER.
