Mysterious sent mail pic files disappearing?

Hi,
this keeps happening to me with mail app. I'll send an attachment or pic file and after its sent it reside in my "sent" folder briefly. I go to see later what I sent and its gone, no where to be found. and then i'm stumped on whether I sent it or not. This does not happen with a text email, just with attachments.
Is there a way to reset the mail app?
any info will be helpful,
John

In the Finder, open Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and locate the Outbox.mbox folder. Either delete that folder, or open its Messages folder and see if this message is hanging around there, and delete it.

  • IPad aol sent mail disappeared

I sent a message through aol mail on my ipad.  When I wanted to retrieve it to send to someone else, I clicked on "sent mail" and it disappeared.  Where did it go?  What did I do wrong?  It's not on my computer or my ipad.  How can I get it back?

Where it went I cannot answer. If your AOL account is set up as IMAP - if it is deleted from one device - it will be deleted from all of your devices - IMAP syncs across all devices.
You can check your webmail account in aol.com, but I am pretty sure it will not be there either.

  • Mail has lost my incoming mail/sent mail information

I'm running Leopard on my G41Ghz Mac and have been for the last week. This morning when I opened Mail my 3 POP account incoming/sent mail information has disappeared - all I'm left with is my .Mac trial account and my original folders in the 'On my Mac' area. My .Mac trial started a week ago so this is something new.
I can see the 3 POP folders in my Home/Library/Mail/POP'name' and I have a backup copy but Mail won't open them.
How can I restore my accounts?

ok, so here is what I would suggest you do:
    1) assuming you have lots of emails in the inbox/sent... mailboxes that vanished, then go to file>import and follow the instructions to import each of the mailboxes from each of the three pop accounts, pointing the import to the right path/location. Leopard Mail will import these emails to a mailbox created for that effect named import...
    2) go to mail>preferences>accounts and recreate each pop account manually. once done then go to your imports and move the emails imported to their rightful place in inbox/sent... for each of the accounts.
    hope this helps

  • Sent mail - Yahoo mail

Help please - my sent mail has completely disappeared apart from the last 3 days of sent mail.  I have not deleted or changed any settings.  Thats 5 years of sent mail completely gone.  Is there any way of getting it back?? What could have happened?

Please refrain from using profanity !! <--- Joke
Ok.. I haven't used webmail in eleventy million years but something my  missus just did in our email client might be a clue. She accidently clicked Unread messages and wondered why there was now only 3 emails in the inbox instead of 100. So I logged into webmail to see if that option was there and lo and behold... it is.
You didn't accidently click the same option perchance ?
I had to sned myself a test email to get one in the sent folder !!

  • Sent Mail not found in sent file

This started a few weeks ago.   Sometimes when I send a new message,  it does not show up in my sent file, leaving me wondering if it was sent at all,  and preventing me from reviewing the email too.
I looked in preferences for MAIL  and I do not see a way this could be a  choice that I somehow allowed.  I do have most of my sent file emails,  just occasionally don't have all of them.   One did go through,  the recipient answered back.
I have the Snow Leopard limited version of iCloud and use the MAIL  on iMac most of the time.  The disappearing sent emails are the same in both locations.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks

    Hi Ric,
I have the exact same problem - I do also have two "sent" folders.
It's like this: when I send from my web-mail the sent mails is in "sent folder 1" - when I send from the application Mail the sent mails ends up in "Sent folder 2"

  • Changing mail server settings (per Verizon's request) caused all sent mail to disappear

Changing incoming mail server per Verizon's 3/7 email caused sent mail folders on iPad and iPhone to go empty. I was able to restore them by restoring my devices from iTunes backups. All sent mail was then restored (even mail sent after the backup date.) If I change the outgoing server, the sent mail files are not affected. Changing the incoming server (from incoming.verizon.net to pop.verizon.net) wipes out the sent mail. Since it is POP/SMTP, there are no other settings I can change on the Apple side. It appears Verizon needs to figure out how to link the old sent mail to the new server ID... Anybody know anything about this?? Thanx.

iPhone does not have many settings for POP email clients, which is what Verizon is. The options to set delete behavior and file locations exists only for IMAP mail, and Verizon is POP, not IMAP. And changing the incoming server settings DID cause my sent mail to disappear. It was reproduceable. As said before, it came back when I restored from backup -- even a backup that pre dated many of the sent messages, so they obviously didn't restore from the backup itself. (And Apple confirms that mail is not backed up in an itunes backup). Verizon keeps claiming that sent mails are not stored on their system, but where did they come from when they re-populated?
From your restore most likely.  Its true that smtp email does not get saved on the Verizon (or most other) mail savers.

  • Sent mails disappeared

    Hello,
i configurate my fathers system since about 10 years.
But now I'dont now what I have to do.
He says that his mails he sent aren't in his "sent mail folder".
What has happend and what I have to do to fix that?
    Thanks,
    Alex

Don't know if this is any help. Several weeks ago began to think a few of my emails were disappearing - In, Out, Sent or Trash. Couple of weeks ago I left my iMac offline with Mail and a draft email on screen. Came back to find all emails deleated except the draft. Click on Mail screen and the draft disappeared!
Came to Apple discussions and found items dated a year or more with no Answers provided. One suggested check User/Library/Mail/Mailbox for something. Not much there but did see a couple of .plist. For some reason I trashed those and went to Mail settings where I had mailboxes set to delete each week or month. Set all to Never. Have had no disappearing emails since then.
Recently checked Trash for something and found several Recovered emails. Have no idea where those came from. I do have TechTool Pro but did not run Recover Files. Ain't technology just great, or what?

  • My SENT mailbox is empty on my computer, mail up til yesterday is on mobileme on browser. I used to have 'my .mac account' and 'on my computer' as mailboxes. 'On my computer' has disappeared. HOW can I restore my SENT mail list? tnx

any help or suggestions would be most welcome. The contents of my sent box disappeared once before, but came back after relaunching. Not this time.
    tnx eliza

    Thanks, Chris ~
Sync has not worked (yet) ~
I'll try archiving from mobileme mail on browser... I can't open the SENT mailbox on TIme Machine on my computer. [It's not the end of the world to lose my Sent Mail, bcz it is still availble via brwoser, but I prefer to be in charge of my computer, not it in charge of me :-D]

  • Mail.app Sent mail attachments disappear (blue ? block icon instead)

    Hi,
I have been having this problem for some while now. When I look at my sent mail (stored on my mac) attachments randomly are not present and messages only show a blue block icon instead.
This happens with two accounts I have setup, me.com and gmail. Both are setup as imap. It happens with different kinds of files, pdfs, .doc, excel, etc.
I have rebuilt the mailboxes, repaired permissions, etc. but the problem persists.
    Anyone experiencing anything like this?

Sounds to me like a problem on the receiving end, or that the mail server is damaging the e-mail somehow to cause a problem on the receiving end.
When you send rich-text e-mail, it is normal that there will be two copies of the message in the e-mail...  one in HTML form and one in plain text.  The e-mail client is supposed to show the appropriate one, and allow the user to view a different one if desired.  (See the various "... Alternative" choices under Mail's View -> Message submenu.)
One solution would be to send plain text e-mails only.  Mail's rich text e-mails are HTML, and Outlook can't handle HTML e-mail worth a darn.

    Hi,
When you have the browser open (Internet Explorer) then press the Alt key on the keyboard. It should show you the file options at the top..Then uncheck work offline and check..
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • JavaMail - mail with files isn't sent to specific recipient

Maybe someone have an idea for me. I use java mail in order to send mails. It worked perfect until today. There is a specific recipient that doesn't get mails with files. At the beginning I was sure that there is a problem in the side of the recipient (probabely security ptoblem), but the same recipient got mail with the same files when I sent them using another application of mail.
Are there any ideas where is the problem?

I would check the logs for you smtp server and see if it got that far. That may be able to tell you where the email went after it got sent.

  • Local iPhone sent mail disappeared

I have been keeping the draft, trash, and sent mail items generated by the iPhone on the iPhone. That is, I have not been storing them on the .Mac server. So I go to retrieve a message I sent a couple of days ago but find that there are only 25 messages in the Sent mailbox, and no "download 25 more" message at the end of the list. I had a thought and sent myself a test message from the iPhone, and the test appeared at the top of the Sent list and bumped the oldest message...into oblivion? I tried deleting the test to see if the old message would reappear to make an even 25 again, but no luck.
I moved the remaining 24 sent messages to the server and changed the setting so now everything is stored there, but a couple of months worth of sent items are...deleted? hiding on the iPhone? They are not on my Mac or in .Mac anywhere that I can find them. Any ideas? I had never heard of this 25 recent message limit in Sent on the iPhone. Apple phone support was not very supportive.

the iPad Mail programme has never been able (not in my opinion is it ever likely) to create folders in Mail - it will replicate what exists on the Mail server, so one creates them there and the iPad and any other devices 'follow' it.
The sent folder has not disappeared on any of my devices so something appears to be in error.
How is the email account set up - POP3 or IMAP ?
Have you tried sending a mail from the iPad and seeing if the folder reappears ?

  • All my Sent mail just disappeared...!

Been having a couple of problems with a Time Machine drive (WD 1TB MyBook) which have had me diving in and out of Disk Utility and DiskWarrior trying to fix it, but my actual iMac is running fine. However, I just noticed that sometime in the last hour or so, ALL my 'Sent' mail has vanished from the app. Mails sent since the vanish are appearing fine but all my earlier mails are gone. I have Mail set up to use IMAP Gmail but have not had any problems with it before.
This seems to have coincided with a hanged 'Quit' out of Mail earlier today. I'd quit the app and the window had gone but the app wasn't quitting. In the end I Forced Quit but strangely the Force Quit window didn't say the app was unresponsive like it usually does, so perhaps I shouldn't have done this. Either way, I'm pretty sure it was when I relaunched the app that all the Sent mail had gone, but I can't be sure as it was another half hour till I dipped into the folder to check the wording in something I'd sent that morning.
    Any ideas?

    Owen:
The problem may have been caused by DiskWarrior or the Permission Repair function in DiskUtility. Also there have been a number of stability issues with Mail after the 10.5.6 update.
Apple has just issued a fix for Mail under 10.5.6 - check downloads. If that does not resolve the problems you can import the sent mail using the Import function under Mail/File. You may also have to rebuild the individual mailboxes using Mail/Mailbox/Rebuild.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sent mail just disappearing

I have an intermittent problem that seemed to have started since the upgrade. When I send emails from my iPad, the sent mail never gets sent, doesn't go to outbox, just disappears off the device. This occurs in my .mac account and both my Exchange accounts. I've tried switching the accounts off, and quitting mail from running in the background, but it seems to keep happening.
It's not consistent - not every mail - but often.
    TIA

    Hi...
Since you have a .mac account and Exchange, try resetting sync services.
Follow the instructions at this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627?viewlocale=en_US
Where you see: *Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard*
Also. Your profile: Mac OS X (10.6.2)
If you are still running v10.6.2, you need to update your system software. Click your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click Software Update...
As with any updates, repair permissions after the updates are installed.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

  • HT4863 sent mail has disappeared

I have not changed my settings and my icloud email is set to never delete sent messages but now it is only storing them for 24 hours - has anyone got a solution?

My wife had a similar problem on her iMac G5. She lost all of her mail. The fix that I used was to look in HD/Library/mail folder and compare that to the HD/USER/Library/mail folder.
Do a get info on both sent mail items and then do an import on the one that has the larger MB status.( Take note of which one is larger. )
Do this from the mail app. Mail/File/import mailboxes.
Choose:Mail for Mac OS10. Choose the mailbox that has the larger MB numbers from step 1 and import.
As always BACK-UP Both copies of both Library/Mail folders first. I copied hers to CD before any changes.
I recovered all of her mail successfully.
