N580GTX Lightning - Not built to be perfect

I will start of by saying, There is nothing wrong performance of this N580GTX Lightning.
But I just opened up my brand new card and there is a massive deep groove/scratch that looks like it has been grinded into the heatsink. With the type of packaging this card was in there is no way this happened in shipping, surrounded in foam wrapped in the antistatic bag in the box. This scratch looks like it was created by metal on metal contact.
For the money I paid for this card is it worth RMAing it?

I would take this up with the reseller first and see what they suggest.

  • N580gtx lightning xe/std - why?

    Question to the MSI.
I bought a video card "MSI n580gtx lightning xtreme", but it is not the declared default frequencies 832/4200 - it is the frequencies 772/4008 and is listed on the label "MSI n580gtx lightning xe /std"(!!!). What is this, some kind of a product which is not mentioned in the official sources? That is, buy a sports car, but that's just the engine it will have on the sports bike, and for almost the same money? This card is not held for some parameters in a class "832/4200" and was demoted to a "standard class - STD"? Explain please, preferably with competence, and not based on speculation - I have enough of their own!
    Thank you.

Well ... Your response is predictable. On the other hand assiduous avoidance of the answer to this question shows that there is an unofficial selection. And the buyer should not rely on the exceptional opportunities card N580 GTX LIGHTNING EXTREME (XE / STD!!!). Most harm the brand image that you are trying to fog to hide the reason - you can lose consumer confidence, and he votes with money.
This is a Users-to-Users Forum and your last post is considered being more than just inpolite. It's the reseller who sold the card and he's the one to contact. You may also contact MSI and complain:>>How to contact MSI.<< but stop this attitude on this forum.

  • APS for MSI N580GTX Lightning

Please help me with APS utility! How to make it to turn the Auto PWM Switch on automatically when it launches?
I'm just sick and tired of turning this PWM Switch on by my self every time OS starts.

    Ask msi here: http://support.msi.com
as i'm not familiar with this tool and his function.[don't have N580GTX Lightning card to run the tool either]

  • N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition Stock & LN2 BIOS

Could someone with a N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition GPU please post or share both the Stock Original BIOS and LN2 BIOS files? I think that the Stock Original BIOS on my card is corrupt because after formatting my system and installing the GeForce drivers, my monitor shuts off after the Windows 7 boot screen. But when I switch to the LN2 BIOS, my system starts up normally.
I want to try using nVFlash and flash over the Stock Original BIOS with a non-corrupted version and see if that'll solve my issue.

ould it be possible that MSI didn't replace my video cards, and simply stuck on a different serial number sticker on them?
    No
    Quote
Because the replaced one's that I received do the exact same thing as the one's I sent in the first place.
Sound logical if the problem is not in the video card.
2 video cards to broke in the same time is highly unlikely, even replaced card is still doing the same,
its one more conformation that its not the video card

  • Recently RMA'ed N580GTX Lightning XE

When I recently RMA'ed both of my N580GTX Lightning XE video cards, I realized that one of them had the stock 772/4008MHz for AUS Only and the other one had the original 832/4200MHz clocks. When I tried to flash the AUS Only N580GTX Lightning XE with the BIOS from the original one with nVFlash, I got an error indicating a PCI Subsystem ID Mismatch. Which in this case, I can't run both of my N580GTX Lightning XE's in SLI. Because the SLI Configuration option is not available on the nVidia Control Panel at all. Why would MSI send me a totally incompatible N580GTX Lightning XE with the other one?

    Reinstall VGA drivers.
Remove current VGA drivers in Safe Mode with >>Driver Fusion<<,
then boot to normal mode and install MSI VGA drivers:
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N580GTX-Lightning-Xtreme-Edition.html#/?div=Driver&os=All
    then retest
I just tried that. Uninstalled VGA drivers in Safe Mode, rebooted back into Safe Mode, used Driver Fusion to remove any remnants of VGA drivers, rebooted and re-installed VGA drivers v301.42 from the link you provided. But the SLI configuration option is still not visible in the nVidia Control Panel. :(

  • N580GTX Lightning "Tweaker" utility?

Hi, I'm wondering where I can download the "Tweaker" app (with PWM control) for my N580GTX Lightning? I just checked the CD that came with the card and it's not on there (only driver and afterburner).
For that matter, how do I find out if there are any new BIOS for the Lightning?

Yes, that's the one; it's called "Tweaker" when the app is run (simply says "LIGHTNING TWEAKER" at the top). I had been using it *with* Afterburner voltage control at the same time for the last several days...
Don't need it now I guess, but glad to see the download section for this great card is finally up.

Playing aan entire level of Crysis or Crysis2 with extreme settings is a very sure way to test. A multiplayer round of BF3 at max settings is also a good test.
If you got the max stable clockrates without overvolting and temps are fine. Go on adding voltage in small steps and agin try the highest max clockrate of any voltage step. That way you'll find the total max clockrate. At some point adding voltage will have no effect anymore and that is the highest clockrate. Remember that voltage unlike just higher clockrates will increase the temps massively.
    Agreed with flobelix
Crysis 2 with ultra setting and set Vsync to Disabled is a very hard test in real life application, I don't use furmark or kombustor. To test stability first I run Vantage and 3DMark2011 then playing Crysis 2 about 2 - 3 hours every day for aweek or 2 weeks and if pass then I call it stable
I use GTX580 Lightning and at stock volt I can do 920/2200 with all little DIP switches turned ON/Enabled/Unlocked excluding Xtreme cooling LN2 DIP switch since I use normal air cooling and not LN2. If I let all DIP switches to their stock/OFF even at 900MHz I can't pass Vantage.
For safe daily OC better stay under 80c for your core temp and under 70c for your VRM & Memory temp  also do not use beyond +200mv for your core voltage (+200mv is the max value)
Note : For 24/7 I use 980/2300 with +112mv/+40mv. VRM and memory temp are under 60c and Core temp is under 80c.

  • N580GTX Lightning Extreme running too hot?

I have had this GPU since Nov,2011. It really is a great card. Lately though I have been having some strange problems. Just last night during a 3 hour session of BF3 my screen just went black on me. No BSOD or anything, just black. Like there was no video being output to the monitor. The system was still running. All the fans(CPU cooler and 8 case fans). I have an Antec 1200 case so airflow is not an issue. I tried to push the reset switch on the front panel, but that did nothing. Holding down the power button did nothing as well. I had to actually turn my PSU off to get the system to shut off. I waited a few min and turned it back on and my PC booted up just fine (other than the expected warning saying the system was not shutdown properly). I am using the same PC to type this post. This is the 3rd time same exact problem has happened. At first I thought it was my PSU. I have a Corsair HX750 Pro Series. This PSU should be sufficient right? The box for the GPU says minimum 700W or greater with a 12v current amp rating of 42Amps. This PSU has a 12v current amp rating of 62amps. Is my GPU overheating or something? I have the MSI Afterburner running right now, and at idle, the temp of the GPU is 50. Shouldn't it be lower than that at idle?? Also another thing I just noticed is the LED's on the PCB for the voltages are showing all green and red. Isn't it supposed to be all green when on idle or running day to day tasks? I am running the latest Nvidia drivers that were released the other day (301.42). If anyone has any clue as to why this is happening, I would really appreciate any feedback. I beginning to worry that my beast of a card is dying on me!!
Oh btw...I am not overclocking this card at all. The only thing I adjust in afterburner is the fan speed. I keep it at 100% during gaming and the temps stay at 65. I have overclocked it before (when I first started using it), but not by much. I didn't really see any difference so I just left it at stock.

if you use another video card does it works stable?
So this issue is recently introduced?
Can you test the VGA in another computer to isolate the issue?
At thsi point it coulbd anything, CPU overheating, PSU problems and so on
It seems to be a BF3 related issue. I tested the GPU with furmark and everything seemed fine. Also played Crysis 2 and it ran good as well. It never crashed out. I also moved my case to the floor under my desk. I have wooden floors so no worry about ESD. The idle temps dropped to 41C. When it used to be 50C. I was thinking about disassembling the card and applying some arctic silver to the heat sink. Is this an easy process? I work on computers at work all the time, changing out heat sinks on CPU's all the time. I have never performed this on a GPU though. This is a very expensive card and I don't want to damage it. Is there a guide that you can point me to for this specific card? Will it void my warranty if I do this? Thanks again for your help!

  • MSI N580GTX Lightning Extreme Edition (Black Screen / Reboot)

    Hi everyone !
    Here's my computer specs :
    CPU: Intel I7 870 (2.93 Ghz)
MoBo: Micro ATX from my Dell XPS Studio 8000
    Memory: 6Go DDR 667 Mhz
    PSU: Corsair HX750(w)
    Windows 7 Pro 64 Bits
    My problem :
80% of my games (Crysis 1 & 2, Bulletstorm,...) & benchs (3DMark 11, MSI Kombustor, ...) crashes after few seconds. My graphic card goes off, black screen, and then my computer automatically reboot. I've tried another PSU, same pb, and my Corsair HX750 is new. So I wonder if the problem is from my graphics card or my (dell) motherboard ? But my config has the minimum required by MSI.
    My temporary solution
After few tests with differents drivers, I've try to change the Core Voltage, no result... So I decided to downclock the GPU freqs.
In order to have something stable to 100%, and be able to run all the games and benchs, i've to downclock the GPU like :
    Core Clock : 600 Mhz (Original : 772 Mhz)
    Shader Clock : 1200 Mhz (Original : 1544 Mhz)
    Memory Clock : 1730 Mhz (Original : 2004 Mhz)
    Its a big loss frequency!
Hope a new bios will come out to fix the bug.

It's only unstable when i'm use the GPU (Games & benchs), not HD videos.
Most games/bench crashes with default clock @ 1.031v. I tried to overvolted & undervolted the GPU, but my tests were not conclusive. The only way i've found to have all games/benchs stable is to downclock the GPU as I explained in my first post.
Maybe i need a more accurate GPU voltage ? Is it important to change Memory & Aux voltage too ?
have you tested with 1050mV for core?

  • Revamp!!! MSI N580GTX Lightning Extreme Edition VC

MSI N580GTX Lightning Extreme Edition is a reconstructed N580GTX Lightning but with 3GB DDR5 memory and redesigned Twin FrozrIII cooler (propeller blade fan’s color changes from blue to white if the card gets hot and the fan rotates backwards for 30 seconds each time the computer starts to remove dusts on the fan). The card still has the enhanced voltage controls and power circuitry where the Lightning series stands out. Compared from a regular 580GTX power phase, the EX has 16+1 (12 for the GPU Core, 3 for the memory and 1 for the PLL/VDDC Power).
At the back area of the card, you will find useful switches for unlocking the Memory, GPU, PLL voltages / Over Current Protection Power Unlocker/ PWM Clock Tuner / and LN2 Bios switch for Cold Bug Fix.
Below are more in-depth specs of the Lightning EX:
    • Pre-overclocked GPU Core is running at 832 MHz
    • 3072MB GDDR5 4200MHz Memory
    • Video Output Functions – 2x Dual-Link DVI, 1x HDMI and 1x Display Port
    • Compose of Military Class 2 Components for longer lifespan and better overclocking ability (Solid Capacitors, Super Ferrite Chokes, Hi-C Caps, Lightning Power PCB Layer, Copper MOS and Proadilizer)
    • Capable of Two-Way or 3-Way SLI Configuration
Black colored underneath plate which serves as heatsink for memory and VRM chips. It also acts as support or brace for long video cards so that it won’t slant down once installed.
Accessories included with the VC Package:
•Two SLI Bridges for multi GPU configuration
•2x 6pin Power to 8pin PCIE Power Connector
    •DVI to VGA Connector
    •Software & Utility DVD
    •Manual and Quick Guide
    •V-Check Points Connector
Lightning EX at stock speed for all the tests.  The only component that I overclocked was the 2600K processor to determine bottlenecks. PhysX was also disabled so that equal comparison can be made against an AMD ATI VC model.
    Test System Configuration:
•Processor: 2600K with Fenrir Heatsink Fan
    •Motherboard: Z68A-GD80
    •Memory: Kingston 2x2GB DDR3 2133MHz
    •Harddrive: Kingston SSD VNow+ 128GB
    •PSU: Antec TPQ-1200
    3dmark06 Result: 24777
    Vantage Result: 25614
    3dmark11 Result: 6535
Next with the 2600K overclocked at 5.1GHz. Video Card performance did increased. This shows that you have to run your 2600k at least at 4.5 – 4.8GHz to cope up with the Lightning EX’s Power.
    3dmark06 2nd Result: 35384
    Vantage 2nd Result: 28741
    3dmark11 2nd Result: 6815
N580GTX Lightning is such a powerful card that even at stock settings, power performance is enough to play all latest games in high resolution with extreme detail settings. Then if the power is still enough for you, you could still use the MSI Afterburner Software to juice out more from the video card or configure it in SLI.

  • N580GTX Lightning XE Issues

I recently had both of my N580GTX Lightning XE video cards RMA'ed and replaced because I was constantly getting a graphics related BSOD.
But now, with my replaced video cards, my system keeps freezing up on the Windows 7 boot screen after the nVidia GeForce drivers installation on restart. I tried with only one of my video cards installed as well, but the same thing happens. I'm able to install every other driver for my system, including every other program I regularly use, even Photoshop, without any issues at all except for any programs that use DirectX or OpenGL. This only happens when I install the graphics drivers. I've also tried older driver versions as old as the v275.33 WHQL certified driver with all ending in the same results, freezes up on the Windows 7 boot screen.
Any help and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Timo,
I modified the jdev.boot file as suggested but still resulted to the same error. (note: The "C:\Oracle\Middleware" is not recognized)
    # The ide.user.dir.var specifies the name of the environment variable
    # that points to the root directory for user files.  The system and
    # product will use its base directory as the user directory.
    ide.user.dir.var = JDEV_USER_HOME,JDEV_USER_DIR
ide.user.dir = C:/Oracle/Middleware[Waiting for the domain to finish building...]

The Server Instance cannot be started because the Integrated Weblogic domain was not built successfully.

  • The integrated weblogic server with jdeveloper 11g is not built successfull

    Greetings,
I am a student and new to oracle and would like to do my graduation project using oracle database and jdeveloper. I installed oracle jdeveloper 11g on windows 7 32 bit, I carried out a simple adf program. But when I run the program it gives the following messages:
[Waiting for the domain to finish building...]
[06:24:42 PM] Creating Integrated Weblogic domain...
    then
Java Platform SE binary has stopped working > Check online solution and close the program or > close the program. If I press either the following appers:
    then
The Server Instance cannot be started because the Integrated Weblogic domain was not built successfully.
[06:29:13 PM] ERROR: An error occurred while building the default domain.
Please see this log file for more details:
    C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.4.37.59.23\o.j2ee.adrs\CreateDefaultDomain.log

Has anyone found a fix for this problem?
    I use Windows 2000 and JDeveloper 11.1.2.0
    Edited by: user11104528 on 07.04.2010 3:44

Windows 2000 is not one of the certified OS (look here http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/papers/11/certification/index.html).
Seams there is a problem with the quite long pathnames and the length of the command line resulting from them.
You can try to shorten the path i.e. using a subst and set the product home to it.
