N80 - phantom MMS?

Ever since I updated my firmware to version 4.0623.0.41, every so often, when I am connected to O2 Mobile Web and using the browser, it comes up with a message saying that there is an incoming MMS and that I need to close my connection to let the handset retrieve it.
It comes up with a list of active connections from which I can choose one to close. I close the connection... but I never get a MMS! This has happened about 3 times in 2 days now and I haven't had a single MMS. More importantly, the handset doesn't even attempt to connect to O2 MMS to retrieve it.
Very strange... any ideas?
Nokia N80 - v4.0623.0.41

Unfortunatley not...
I would suggest you get a hold of your operator for them to investigate this issue as it is not normal.

I can not seem to send or recieve any multimedia messages on my 6500 slide,I'm not sure if i have the settings right

Sounds like an Orange problem, so I'd speak to them.
You are definatly sending via MMS and not just SMS? Do you have the MMS settings on your phone? If not, you can get them easily from the Orange website under 'help & support>N80>data>MMS I'd also get the 3G and GPRS settings resent too.

  • MMS on N80

    Hi.
When i receive an MMS on my N80, the picture comes through tiny. whereas if i take pics myself or receive a pic by bluetooth they come out a lot bigger. Anyone know how to sort this??
    Thanks,
    Jay.

I think large pictures get scaled down before they are sent. Of course, pictures will also look a lot smaller on the N80's high-res screen.

  • N80 MMS 'unknown recipient' help

I'm trying to send a friend a picture via mms. We can both send and recieve MMS messages just fine and do so regularly. I have recieved them off her today but when i try and send one back the sending fails stating - Unable to send message: (friends name)then when i press details it says 'unknown recipient'
What does this mean, why am i unable to send MMS messages just to her. everyone else i can send.
We are both on the o2 network
    Help , ideas anyone

    Hi rastik
I have a suggestion for you but unfortunately it would lead to loss of data on phone.
Take the battery out for 10 minutes and then replace and see if any difference.
If not try the "3 finger reset" which is depress these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone whilst keeping those same three keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.

  • N80 MP3 Player Controls Gone Crazy??

    Hi there,
    Just recently received my N80
    v3.0618.0.2
    23-05-2006
    RM-92
    NOKIA N80 (45.02)
The problem I am having is with the mp3 player.
Some mp3 tracks are over an hour long (long radio shows or dj mixes).
When I try and fast forward through to say 01:10:00 (HH:MMS)
    it doesn't quite work correctly.
The player just goes to a random place, and also displays the incorrect time - for eg: if i fwd to 01:10:00 and then release the fast fwd button, the display could show 00:13:00 even though the location of where I fast forwarded to is different. And in any case, the display of 00:13:00 doesn't mean it's at 13 minutes.. it could in fact be at 48 minutes (or whatever).
    The same applies to rewinding.
    Is this a bug?
Has this been fixed with newer firmware updates?
    Anyone else have this problem?
Should I ask for a replacement unit?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

So far, you're the first person I've heard of who has seen 0318 first hand - all other reports have been mere rumour - so I suspect there's nothing newer available yet.Message Edited by patc on 17-Jul-2006

  • N80 sms sending problems

I have an unlocked N80, up until the other day I could send & recieve sms messages but they were very slow. I installed sms accelerator & it worked fine but then the service centre number afterwards was incorrect. I edited the number back to my original sms service centre number in the settings but now I can't send txt messages at all, I can't get into the sms settings at all either! I can send mms & picture messages, email & I can recieve sms. It's driving me crazy, please help. thanks

Hi, many thanks for your response, however I've done the firmware upgrade & SMS sccelerator but STILL can't send TXT messages!!! I can't get into SMS "settings" to configure my service centre number.
I can access MMS & wap/email etc fine, I can send & recieve MMS. I am confused over this whole issue!!

  • Group messaging turns to mms when I don't want it to

I was wondering is there a reason that my group messaging turns into MMS even thought I don't want it is there a reason for this.

Ah, more phantoms - or perhaps vampires since they are sucking your data. At the foot of a recent discussion, I set-out a procedure that might help - just ignore the syncing parts as they won't apply to you:

  • N80 Packet Data and Orange Internet

How do I set up Packet Data and Orange internet on my Nokia N80? Been looking at loads of tutorials but cant find them on my first N80 there was an "always on connection" and sending SMS is pretty slow any ideas about getting these settings? Been on a few sites but cant find anything for Orange Internet, Packet Data and SMS. Cheers

Either go to the Orange site, support, select N80 and go into each link for text, 3g, GPRS, MMS (some links will send you the sim update)
or phone Orange on 156 and ask for them to send you all the settings via SIM update for messaging, voice mail and data etc. Explain that you've got a replacement handset, and they'll prob send your account's settings via multiple updates (including roaming options and divert options).

  • MMS size

    Hi again
Can anyone tell me how to change the MMS size limit from 100kb to 300kb? My network supports 300kb MMS, but my N70 don't let me attach anything bigger than 100kb I have search for an option to change this setting, but no luck here
    Any ideas?

I had this issue on my N80 pre V4 FW.
There are a few things that you can try first otherwise there are some setting which cannot be changed by mere mortal users, but the NSC might be able to help.
    Messaging>Options>Settings>Multimedia message
In there make sure that the "Image size" is set to "Large" and that "MMS creation mode" is set to "Free"
Then try to create an MMS over 100k - pref a video as it will cannot rescale a video, like it can with an image.
If it still fails saying that the limit is 100k then there isn't too much that you can do yourself.
Update to the latest fw or a visit to an NSC and asking them to plug it into the Nokia test & diagnostic application might solve the problem... however I am unsure if they will do this for you, but it's worth a try.

  • Problems with N80

I've been having trouble with my Nokia N80 since my last update. I keep having to resave and set my GPRS Wap and MMS settings from my service provider to get online or send mms.
Also, I don't have anything in my Application Manager. When I click on it it shows my background with the battery and signal strength then goes back to my front page.
And finally, I can't get my Nokia Updater to work either - it said something about not being able to connect to NOL server.
I have a sim free N80, version v40632038 my service provider is O2 (genie sim).
Can anyone help? I'm at my wits end with all this. I've been checking the forums for a while but noone seems to have answered these problems.
    Thank you.

I'm okay with bluetooth at the moment - I use iSync on the Mac which seems to work okay. File transfer over bluetooth also seem to work okay - just tested with a couple of mp3s. However, I need to use USB for large quantities of data (music, photos, etc) and it doesn't seem to work. I have tried it on both a mac and a pc with the same issue each time.
The symptoms I have are exactly the same as you sysinit - if I touch the device then it seems to disconnect and reconnect rapidly. Unfortunately, even if I leave the device completely untouched and try to transfer 100MB of data, invariably it only gets halfway before conking out!
Most of the other software issues I can deal with (I had a Sony Ericsson P900 before this which had its fair share of problems!), but this to me is a showstopper. If there is no fix for the problem then the handset is going back as the problem is so easy to reproduce.

  • N80: Do I need operator specific firmware upgrade?

    Hi,
I just had a nightmare with my local Nokia service center.
After ringing last week and being told they had the new N80 v4 firmware, I dropped the phone off yesterday morning to get it upgraded. I won't go into details, but it was so badly mismanaged, I missed a business meeting at 5pm, they told me it would be done on 4 separate occasions and then - they couldn't do it because it was an Orange branded phone.
Is this the case? Do I have to wait for a specific Orange version of the new N80 firmware? How will this affect the FOTA aspects once Nokia support it?
    Regards
    J>

If you handset is Network branded then the service point will only install the update that is authorised by the Network. this has always been the case. So it would look like Orange would need authorised that firmware update for their handsets.
I think it has something to do with braking the warranty you have with your network provider.
When receive a handset from your network provider, you are agreeing to use that phone with their software installed to get the full service. By debranding it your network can refuse to give you support. I'm my case I lost my handset and got a new one from my insurance. this one was not branded so when I call my network for help with mms/gprs setting they refused on that one detail.
Now I just stick to Generic handset, a lot les hassle.
    Peace Out

  • Orange and my flakey new N80

Ok - having read all the info here and being prepared to deal with a few gremlins (I still really like the N80)...
Last night I spent a couple of hours setting up my email and got both Orange Email and Gmail working, both send and receive, with no Certificate problems on Gmail, over both 3G (Orange Internet), GPRS and my home Wireless network. Was very pleased with myself.
This morning, during an email check, the phone crashed and turned itself off, lost sight of the MiniSD, lost all the email configuration and generally annoyed me to the point I called Orange.
I got through to their 3G support department (too many keypresses but worth it when I got there), I described my many observations about the restarts, memory problems, bluetooth problems, etc, etc. They ran some diagnostics and I will have my replacement delivered to me tomorrow before 1pm. Apparently the diags just said, "Replace, Replace, Replace"
I'm currently on V 3.0614.0.3, so it will be interesting to see what gets delivered tomorrow. I'm wondering if there was a faulty component batch on the phones delivered to Orange?
Impressed with the N80, and Orange (so far), but not the stability - lets hope new firmware and hardware resolve it all.

I think if you check your phone from time to time or when you move to another area you'll find that it will reconnect... The only way to stop this is by orange, with them switching of the gprs it still tries to connect but fails(but that also means no sending mms which is not good).
they tried to make out to me that the phone is faulty which means sending out another phone this would mean that would be my 3rd phone in 11 days! I also found out from looking around that orange reconfiger all their phone with their software, and its clear that it's clashing with nokia, which has coursed the n80 to crash and go crazy.
I don't have a problem with orange they have always been friendly and helpful when speaking to them, well try to be helpful, but its like having a sports car and ripping the engiene out... this is what orange in my mind have done.
I'm not say that the phone wont have any bugs its new out and we're testing it for nokia so in a few months this phone will be much better....
If you want to get the phone direct from O2 you can't untill the 5/6/06 as they keep getting software problems and have put the date back twice already.... therefore i'm sorry to say i'm sending the phone back to orange ending my contract, and will think about getting it from on-line as these are unlocked phones and hoping they'll be better (the deals aren't though) with no one playing around with the settings and software...
we'll just have to waite and see i guess.... it would be cool to see what ppl think who are on other networks about this phone, and what software problems they've had if any...

  • Help im having pronlems with my N80

    hey
ive had my N80 on three for about three weeks and am having several problems with it.
when i try to make calls it tells me that the network is busy and doesnt put the call through. however i have been told by friends that when im calling them their phones ring once then hang up.
also it takes several attempts for me to send sms and mms messages and my WAP dosesnt connect unless im outwith video service coverage areas.
for me to get my hand set to make calls i have to go into network selection and change it from 3G to just 3, which as you can imagine is inconvenient to have to do this every time i make a call.
also if i manage to get a call through it will cut off several minutes into the conversation even though both I and the person i am calling have full signal.
very very frustrating esp as a new phone. have tried and gotten nowhere contacting three so any suggestions would be greatfully recieved!

Ok, nice, let us know In the meantime, you could also try using one of the SIMs from the pay-as-you-go-phones in your N80? Maybe from a different / same operator? It should be quite clear within a few minutes then
edit: hmm.. 'a three phone', not 'three phones'... Well, you could try using that SIM then Message Edited by dataghost on 08-Aug-2006

  • Orange and my nokia n80

well i've have been with o2 for years but went with orange this time round as offered a great deal on my nokia n80.. first handset was fualty not orange's fualt... however, have just found out that my second n80 has been connecting to orange internet every time it come into a 3g signel.... i found this out last night when I went to my connection manager to find there it was all connected for over 2 and half hours. I dissconected the connection only to find that it had done it yet again later on in the everning.. both times data had been sent and recieved.. I contacted orange spoke to billing who told me there was a £9.00 data charge on my phone, which the bill was on the 22nd had the contracted 18th of this month... i then spoke to fualts dep, who said they would pass it on to the tec guys and to stop it have diconnected my gprs in the mean time, and said that this phone may be faulty aswell...
has anyone else had the same prob with the orange network? or could it be a fualt with this handset... personely i feel it's orange's way of making more money from ppl hence good contract deals.. but hay please tell me what you think, as i feel this needs to be looked at by both nokia and orange

  • What is new AT&T iPhone MMS date? I see integrated messaging feature

Okay, I heard that this was to happen at then end of Summer, then end of July.
So what is the new date? I see Integrated Messaging counters in my AT&T profile as of this week.
Should we expect another update to sync with iTunes to get it working?

Funny. I'm going to mark this question as answered -and this last post as funny.
I hope it isn't sarcasm, cause my sarcasm detector runs on Windows 7 and I currently have my VMware Fusion session powered off.
The heart of my question was really the "integrated message" counter in my AT&T profile. I was hoping to hear others just got it, or don't have it, or when they got it, and they I could magically extrapolate a new MMS rumor date.
Anyway, I don't have to go to UK (although a good choice), cause Rogers in Canada has MMS already.
