N95 - A step back in time

What is is with this new phone? I can't insert a contacts number in a text message for love nor money. Nor can I copy a number from one contact into another. It allows you to copy the number, but how and where the hell can you paste? The other thing is that on all older Nokia's if you added the number from a text message to your contacts, the phone updated the message list with their name - not anymore - why prey tell ?
Someone should tell Nokia that when they add new fun things to the phones, they are not suppost to delete the basic stuff at the same time.

to enter a number press (and Hold) the number key while in text entry mode ('abc') and the number will be entered instead.
Also if you cycle through the letter (while not in T9 predictive text entry) you can find the number there. To get out of predictive text use the Pencil key and turn off predictive text or press the # key to cycle text entry modes Abc, abc, Abc_, abc_, 123 (you have to hold down the # key to get to number mode).
640K Should be enough for everybody

  • As The Username Implies Fios TV = A Step Back In Time....

    After switching over from Dtv two weeks ago here in Syracuse, NY, all I can say is BUMMER. At this point I would have much rather kept paying the extra $100.00 a month I saved by bundling to see the programming I want. No MSG-HD, which I knew going in, but was under the assumption from talking to the rep on the phone that Ranger games in HD would be carried via the Center Ice package. To my disappointment, not only is there no MSG-HD on Center Ice, but Center Ice only carries ONE!! HD broadcast an evening ??? Are you serious??? Please tell me this is some sick joke before I start spreading the word to my co-workers and friends to avoid Fios TV. Is there a problem with Verizon Fios carrying HD channels?? All I can say is wow, major, major disappointment. HD Sports packages and programming on Fios is like stepping back in time to the caveman era, what a regression I've made. Is it to late to cancel my Fios Tv and switch back after two weeks? Any and all help appreciated.

    I switched from ____________ .  I am soooo disappointed....  _______is a let down from _____________, HD channels and free movies on demand.  I got suckered... by the __________marketing and one of my know-it-all relatives!!  I'm giving serious consideration to never speaking to him again!!!
    Bottom line is that ________ cannot compete with _________ yet in programming. No contest!  Sure... better quality video and audio.  BUT, I want my choices and so much more HD.
    I am seriousl;y considering switching back... this weekend. Even if it costs me a few bucks....  I am very disappointed with ___________ and I won't be back...
    Not saying that your not correct and I'm just re-using your post a little. but I blanked out the names of the companies.
    Now you can put this on any companies site and fill in the blanks with the company of your choice and you will see the same thing on every company out there.

  • In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" with a number of playlists in the OPTIONS menu from "music" to "audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check the items have reverted back to "music". What step am I missing?

    In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" in the OPTIONS menu from "Music" to "Audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check, the items have reverted back to "Music". What must I do to save it as an "Audiobook"?

    After more digging in the Support section here and some Google work, I turned off iTunes Match and lo and behold!  I can change the media kind to Audiobook!  So, it looks like iTunes Match locked the files up somehow and for some reason.
    I went into iTunes Store > iTunes Match > "No, Thanks" to disable it on the local PC.

  • Time machine email restore won't step back

    I am trying to find and thus restore old emails which are missing, but when I go to the appropriate mailbox, then Time Machine, and select an older date, nothing happens.  It own't step back.  I have done this several times in the past and it worked fine. I ran Repair permissions, and oddly nothing was found wrong, and then shut down.  What's wrong?

  • Back in time with rman ?

    Hi,
    I have a rman set of backups from an Oracle database. The database is ok, only the user wants to have that older stand of the data, so I must go back in time.
    The rman script to generate the backups is as follows:
    rman target sys/manager@EON1 catalog rman/rman@rman << EOF >> $LOG 2>&1
    run {
    configure retention policy to redundancy 2;
    # debug on;
    allocate channel d1 type disk;
    backup incremental level 0
    skip inaccessible filesperset 10 noexclude
    format '/u0/oracle/backup/INCR_%s_%p'
    database include current controlfile;
    release channel d1;
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    allocate channel d1 type disk;
    backup skip inaccessible filesperset 50
    format '/u0/oracle/backup/ARCH_%s_%p'
    archivelog all delete all input;
    release channel d1;
    report obsolete;
    delete noprompt obsolete;
    allocate channel for maintenance type disk;
    crosscheck backup;
    release channel;
    allocate channel for delete type disk;
    delete noprompt expired backup;
    release channel;
    EOF
    My database world is Sybase, a little bit Oracle skills too but no rman.
    Can anybody describe me the steps to restore that backup set?
    Thanks a lot.
    Daniel S

    1. shutdown and backup your database (!!!).
    2. start in umount mode
    3. rman target sys/manager@EON1 catalog rman/rman@rman
    4. at the RMAN prompt perform a point in time restore/recover, e.q.:
    restore database until time "to_date('19.01.2009 13:00:00','DD.MM.YYYY HH24:MI:SS')";
    recover database until time "to_date('19.01.2009 13:00:00','DD.MM.YYYY HH24:MI:SS')";

  • CS6 Auto-Save: 1 step forward, 1 step back

    I have done a little testing with the auto-save, and there is some progress with CS6 - especially in the area where earlier versions would stop playback or scrubbing to fire off an auto-save.
    It looks like the auto-save does not stop playback or scrubbing on the timeline anymore.  It will stop you from other operations such as moving an audio slider or other non-critical mouse clicks.  I tested with 1 minute intervals, and it appears that it won't auto-save during playback or scrubbing in the background, and will wait until the next interval after playback has stopped until it saves. (Instead of taking the very next possible moment after playback has stopped to makeup for the save)  This seems like it could create the possibility that if you are playing back or scrubbing during multiple interval moments, you could have a long period where there are no auto-saves - especially if you set the interval to a high number.  Like I said, I only tested with a 1 minute interval, so maybe this functions differently if you save every 10 or 20 minutes.  Maybe then it will do an auto-save right after playback has stopped if it has been awhile.
    The step back is that if you hide PPro, (I'm on a Mac, btw) instead of just bouncing the dock icon during an auto-save like previous versions, it will actually bring PPro to the front and block out/cancel anything else you are doing on your machine.  How annoying!  I can't figure out the reason to have it function like this.  If it is simply hidden behind other windows, it does not do this, instead only brings to the front the small auto-save progress bar - It only happens if you hide the appplication.  For example, if you are moving back and forth between PPro and AE, you could be working away on a comp in AE and suddenly PPro jumps to the foreground to let you know it did an auto-save.  Since I have 2 monitors, I like to hide apps that I'm not working in to hide pallettes and other windows so I can have my desktop back.  Seems like the solution for now is to not hide PPro ever and to do a proper save more often to avoid the issue of potential long periods of no auto-saves. (And submit a bug report?)
    Anyways, long post for a potential trivial thing, but for those who care about this, it is a change.  Anyone else experiencing this?

    Jim,
    Exactly, and that is what the "1 step forward" is with CS6.  It drove me crazy when Auto-Save would interrupt playback.  I was suggesting that it would be a better option that if you are playing back during an auto-save interval, it should take the very next opportunity to fire off a save, like maybe after hitting stop when there is a moment of downtime.  However - in my testing - it looks like it skips that interval completely and waits for the next one.  So, if you have it set to save every 10 minutes, but are playing back your timeline during each of those 10 minute intervals, it will never auto-save even if there are large stretches of time in between when you are doing nothing.  It seems like it could be more intellegent about when it saves, and do it quieter in the background.

  • New Desktop for PC a step back?

    I like my BBerry 9810 and think it’s the best phone you make and I recommend it.  I’ve had BBerrys, iPhones and an Android phone and still stick with BBerry.
    However, your new BlackBerry Desktop Software for PC looks like a step back to me.
    First, the transition to version 7 from previous versions created havoc with my device.
    I ended up erasing everything on my 9810 and starting over.  Took more than an hour.  Shame on you not making this a seamless transition.
    The new software detected all sorts of incompatibilities between my existing device data and my Outlook data that the previous synch version accepted.  Took time to reconcile.
    Second, with version 7, unless I am mistaken (and I could be) we have lost the ability to INDIVIDUALLY decide how to reconcile device vs. Outlook data conflicts.  The conflict resolution appears to be an all-or-none decision.  Either I check the ‘apply to all’ box or I can only decide on one pair of conflict records when I hit OK.  I want to be able to decide for each pair of conflicting records what to do individually, as well as have the en masse option.
    While I’m on my soapbox, it would be nice if you offered an inexpensive wireless synch service for non-Exchange users like me.  Again, Apple’s Mobile Me, now their iTunes/iCloud does this for their individual users.  I’m still synching my 9810 by wire.
    Thanks.

    I installed the Blackberry Desktop upgrade over the weekend. The first time I synced my device with Outlook the program found 200 "conflicts" that were not there 2 days before.  This was a major problem with my Outlook calendar in terms of duplicating a number of entries.  I actually went back to January 2012 and corrected the duplicates in Outlook then did a one-way sync replacing all of the entries on the device.  What a pain.
    In addition, the "Intellisync" software routinely completed the entire sync process in less than 2 minutes. The new software required over 20 minutes to complete the process INCORRECTLY. HOW CAN THIS BE CONSIDERED AN UPGRADE???
    I also am frustrated that there is NO WAY to communicate DIRECTLY with Blackberry without paying a fee.  Why stay loyal to a company that makes it hard for customers to provide feedback?

  • Adobe Reader X a step back-wards??

    hi,
    just wanted to let someone out there know, that since I upgraded to reader x from v.9 (by checking for updates) the program will no longer open .pdf's it just locks up, I know to fix this might be to un-install the program and reinstall, but in all my years of using acrobat reader, I have never had to do this and don't particularly want to now.
    Also, I note that the new X version is not as user friendly or as functional with the tools and that the selection of the tools is long winded and a time waster, plz see the light and bring back v.9s tool choice and ease of use, the way to pick tools with the check box system was much better, easier and user friendly, plz bring this feature back, I am considering dropping Adobe reader altogether and opting to use NitroPDF, this is functional as acrobat reader used to be...
    I hope your programmers with take a step back and conceder; if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
    regards,
    rosshi

    Thanks.  I also did an uninstall, but downloaded 9.4.0; it seems to be
    working fine (however, I've just noticed that X is wanting to download
    again.  I have to "close Adobe Reader Updater" - it can't take no for an
    answer!
    Have a good day!

  • IPhoto 11 a step back-

    Well first of all, I love Apple products, but iPhoto 11 is a step back compared to the predecessor. The way how one is using iPhoto 11 got more complicated, not intuitive and it feels so sluggish. Like a cheap Microsoft copy of iPhoto… Really, the most annoying thing are the new carussels to select cards and calendars. The system slows completely and it takes minutes to select them. Also the way how MobileMe Galleries are treated is so unconvinient. So please Apple don't do good things worser. And I hope the next update to iPhoto and iLife will be more comfortable again to use.
    Thanks. (I hope someone from the Apple iLife Team reads that, or even Steve Jobs).

    1 - this is not a path to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
    2 - yes it is different but for me it is much better and a lot faster - maybe you simply need to take time to go through the small leaning curve - there are many new options in print products and overall it is a nice step - and is more intuitive (just different from the previous version - which was different form iphoto 6 - which was different form ...)

  • Viewing an edit 1 or 2 steps "back"?

    Hi there,
    I'm a fairly new iPhoto user. I am taking my first few steps in learning how to edit and manage my pictures in iPhoto. It's taking me a while because I'm used to editing my photos in Photoshop, viewing the files with ACDsee, and batch renaming my actual "file names" with ACDsee as well. Iphoto doesn't allow many of the functions I am used to using as a PC ADCsee/Photoshop user... but I'm trying to adapt.
    My question is; When I edit a photo with iPhoto is there a way I can revert to an edit I may have liked "3 steps back"? I think I am seeing that I can revert to the way the picture was set during "the last step", but I can't see any type of "history" panel like Photoshop has... If I make an edit and I realize the picture was perfect 3 steps back, but I last worked on it the day before yesterday, is there any way for me to reach that state again without having to completely re-do all of my edits?
    Thank you,
    YahYah

    I can revert to an edit I may have liked "3 steps back"?
    Depress the command (apple) key and type z three times (or one time to go back one edit or two times to go back two edits )

  • Time Capsule won't back up Time Machine

    Hi,
    I work with an iMac and OS 10.5.7. O bought this with a Time Capsule and for the first couple of months it back up Time Machine fine.
    It has now stopped doing so. I have reset to factory settings several times, the internet connectivity (ethernet cable to cable modem) works fine, but no matter how often I set up Time Capsule again on Airport and then go into Time Machine on System Preferences to select the Time Capsule as Time Machine disk, it simply won't do it.
    I am at my wits' end on this. I may as well have bought any old harddrive, as the internet connectivity is not an issue for me!
    Can anyone help?
    cheers
    Damien

    Damien, welcome to the discussions!
    The connection between your Time Capsule and your computer has been lost. Try these steps to see if they help re-establish that connection:
    Open System Preferences and open Sharing. Make sure that your computer name appears. Try to eliminate any apostrophes or other punctuation marks and limit to 25 characters or less including spaces.
    Open AirPort Utility and click on Manual Setup. Click the Time Capsule tab below the icons. Make sure that your Time Capsule name appears. Use the same guidelines as above.
    Click in an open area of your desktop to show the Finder menus at the top of the screen. Click on Finder and then click on Preferences and then the General tab. Under the heading of "show these items on the desktop", make sure there is a check mark next to "Connected Servers"
    Power down the Time Capsule and wait a few moments, then power it back up.
    Now click System Preferences and Time Machine. Choose change disk and click your Time Capsule to highlight it and then click Use For Backups.
    Please post back on your progress.

  • Report Open balance for Customers back in time

    Dear All,
    I would like to have a question: How can I report Highest Balances for Customers back in time? So I have to list Date and Amount, in the last one year, when Customers had their Highest Balances (highest outstanding amount). I have a transaction that can show actual status but I cannot report it for a long period in the past.
    Does anyone have an idea how could I do it?
    It would be very helpful.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
    Solution Manager does not desal with Customer Balances. Perhaps you wanted one of the banking industry forums, or FI AR/AP?
    In any event this question will not help you much in this forum.

  • How do I delete time machine backups if I can't zoom back in time?

    Hi,
    I'v been backing up my 250GB HD using time machine very successfully over the years. I store additional home movies that aren't on my HD on my time capsule machine in a seperate folder from the backups that are made daily. My 250GB HD is now full and it has been duplicated and placed on a much larger 1TB HD drive back inside my iMac. Because it is a new HD, time machine is wanting to do a new 250GB backup of it (which is ok), BUT there is not enough space on my time machine drive to do a 250GB backup. I need to delete the prior time machine backups to make space. However, because the HD is new, I'm unable to zoom back in time with time machine and delete backups from the time capsule. When I open time capsule in finder I see a .sparsebundle folder which I assume must contain all my old HD time machine backups. To free up time capsule space, can I simply delete the .spersebundle folder? I'm nervous to do that and don't want to mess anything up, so I'm asking for advise. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thx.

    That's a problem, as you now see.  When you get this sorted out, see #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for an explanation and some workarounds.
    because the HD is new, I'm unable to zoom back in time with time machine and delete backups from the time capsule.
    You can see and delete individual backups from an old drive, per #E3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.  Deleting a lot of them will take a very long time, of course.

    Yup, that's an option, too but will also take quite a while.  See #Q5 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details.
    Whatever you do, by all means, connect via Ethernet cable if at all possible.  It will still be slow, but be 2-3 times faster than a good wireless connection.

  • After Authorized Service Provider my Mac went back in time and I lost everything!

    Yesterday my screen started showing weird horizontal lines, so I took it to an Apple ASP for a quick look.
    First I created a new Admin account to protect my existing admin account. The guy would be using this one throughout his diagnostic.
    The guy opened the back of the notebook, tweaked the cable connecting the screen and the logicboard, and turned the notebook back on.
    After that he said he would perform a quick analysis/diagnostic that all ASPs do upon starting a service. The diagnostic showed that my battery needs to be serviced, everything else was fine.
    His conclusion was that the screen needs to be changed as the cable cannot be changed without the screen. I got the notebook back, and he recommended I buy a new used computer, as servicing both the battery and the screen would cost at least 700-800USD in itself.
    -> So fine, I take the computer back home, and turn it on. I log into my own personal admin account, not the one I had created for the guy.
    Result:
    * My notebook has jumped back in time: applications and files are missing; settings are odd; and worst of all......
    * my Safari no longer opens: it says
    Safari cannot be opened because of a problem.
    Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
    Background:
    Last fall I had the same issue: I had upgraded my Snow Leopard to Lion in 2011, and later to Mountain Lion last fall 2012. After doing so, my Safari no longer opened, saying the same as above. Without Safari I could not update anything, as to use App Store one needs Safari as a background software.
    So I needed to do a clean install of my Lion and my Mountain Lion, and I did so while partitioning my harddrives to two partitions.
    Now:
    I seem to be back in time, re-experiencing what happened last fall. Meanwhile I have lost everything I had on before taking the notebook to the service: I lost my Safari, its settings and open browsers, but I also lost a whole bunch of other features, apps, etc.
    I tried returning to a restore point in my Time Machine - no difference. The issue with Safari persists.
    I don't want to do another clean install, it took a lot of effort and would require me to invest in a new external harddrive of 2TB. If there is a way to restore Safari without a clean install, I would prefer it.
    Please help! Much appreciated.
    Znufkin

    Dear ds store, thank you for replying. If I may clarify, I am not looking assistance on the screen or battery issue, it was just to give the background as to why I had to take the notebook to an ASP and why the guy had to do a diagnostic with the notebook.
    The problem is with Safari not opening, and with my OS X going 'back in time' to a restore point where my earlier problem with Safari occurred. I don't understand what the guy did to reverse my OS X to a distant point back in time in last November, and why my Safari problem reappeared even though I had done a clean install to fix it.
    Thank you!
