NAC OOB and 6500 in Virtual Switch Mode

Is there any issue or special care to implement NAC OOB in Central Deploy, VGW, using AD SSO for wired clients where the Core Switch is a pair of 6500 in Virtual Switch Mode?
The customer uses Radius IAS for authentication. How does it fit with the AD SSO?

Hi Bruce,
I am afraid there are some arguments missing in your db command.
To manually add the OID of  Cat4507R+E to CAM's database here is the  procedure to do this.
[root@cca-3140-cam ~]# psql -h localhost -U postgres controlsmartdb -c "INSERT INTO supported_switch VALUES ('1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1286', '4', 'Cisco Catalyst 4507 R+E')" INSERT 0 1
psql: warning: extra command-line argument "INSERT" ignored
psql: warning: extra command-line argument "0" ignored
psql: warning: extra command-line argument "1" ignored
INSERT 0 1
Then to make sure it is there:
[root@cca-3140-cam ~]# psql -h localhost -U postgres controlsmartdb -c "SELECT * FROM supported_switch" | grep 1286
The output should be:
1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1286      |     4 | Cisco Catalyst 4507 R+E
Restart perfigo service on NAC Manager and try to manage the switch  using the model used by the above command.
HTH,
Tiago

  • VM Activation problem when using Internal Virtual Switch mode

    Hello,
I have setup Windows 2012 R2 Standard Version host machine.  Hyper-V setup successful. Host machine already activate license.
I have got a problem is when VM connecting with Internal virtual Switch.  It will not able to process Windows activation.  If it connected using External Virtual Switch, it can successful do windows activation.  However, using External Virtual
Switch, one more WAN IP will be used.
I am using ICS method to share the network interface to Internal Virtual Switch.
Is it what problem and how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

    Hi Gyorgy,
What is the version of your guest operating system? Why not we create an External Virtual switch to access Internet when using Hyper-V guest system? (Some reference if needed:Hyper-V Virtual Switch

  • OneDrive and Hyper-V Virtual Switch don't mix

Since the release of Windows 10TP I have had a Hyper-V VM configured running Win10TP.  Since that time I have had OneDrive synchronisation problems IN THE HOST OS (as well as in Win10TP, but that is not my focus here).
In summary, if the path from OneDrive in the host Win8.1 installation to the Internet is via a Hyper-V Virtual Switch, OneDrive will not sync up any file beyond around 1-2MB.  It will sync up deletions, and it will sync down any changes that happen
in the cloud.  This happens even if the host OS is the only OS connected to the Virtual Switch - I.e the guest OS has no virtual adapter connected to the VSwitch.
    Details:
Configuration A.  Surface Pro with Windows 8.1 connected to the Internet via WiFi.  Hyper-V has always been installed on this box (for the Windows Phone Emulator) but no VM is normally active.  In this configuration the host OS connects directly
    to  the WiFi adapter.
Configuration B.  As above, but a Hyper-V Virtual Switch is in place with the host OS connected to the Internet via this VSwitch, and thence via the WiFi adapter.  There is a guest Win10TP VM created.  It doesn't matter whether this VM
is running or not, or whether it also has a connection to the Internet via the VSwitch, as far as the tests described below are concerned.
In configuration A, OneDrive syncing works correctly and uploads occur at roughly the speed of my uplink (not high).  OneDrive has always worked correctly for me and in the month prior to installing the Win10TP I travelled around the country (Australia)
using sometimes dodgy Internet connections in motels etc., and it always worked.
In configuration B, OneDrive (in the host OS Win8.1) simply will not work correctly.  It will sync all downloads correctly.  It will sync up file deletions.  It will sync up small files.  But it WILL NOT sync up larger files.
Attempting to sync up any file above around 1-2MB results in sync hanging at "0.0KB out of x.xMB".  In the OneDrive app it shows the file as Pending.  Nothing I can do will make it sync those files.  Deleting the offending file and
pausing and restarting syncing will straighten everything out and small syncs will continue to work.  When this problem is present, there is no traffic visible between the Sync Engine and the cloud.
I can alter the machine setup between Configuration A and B and back and so on and no matter how often I switch from A to B to A to B... configuration A always works and configuration B always fails.
    So...
Am I possibly missing something in configuring Hyper-V VSwitches?  Otherwise what is incompatible between OneDrive traffic and the VSwitch?  There is nothing obvious to me.
I should note that all other operations on the network from the host OS or from the Guest OS appear to be working correctly.

When you performed configuration B - what more did you do other than create a Virtual Switch and check the box "allow management OS to share"?
If you did more than that - there is your issue.
The only difference between the two configuration should be the existence of the Virtual Switch - I mention this because it is not clear in your description and there are some folks that do strange internet sharing configurations that the OneDrive client
    is not necessarily compatible with.
Another issue that might happen is that during the sync of your large files the power savings of the NIC is kicking in and interrupting that data transfer.
In this case try disabling all power savings on the physical NIC driver (when there is a Virtual Switch present).

  • NAC OoB and WLC Causing flap and network down

I'm trying to intall a NAC Solution in a Wireless network but it's causing a MAC address flapping between switches interfaces and it's bringing the network down.
I've done the deployment following the Cisco documentation:
    (WLC)-----(L2 Switch)-----(NACServer)--------(L3 Switch3com)
                        |_____________________________|
One connection from L2 to L3 throught NAC and one trunk out-of-band.
I Filtered the Vlans that should only be showed in the trunks but it keeps causing flapping when I plug the untrusted interface of NAC.
The only thing is that I wasn't able to take the Vlan 1 out of the Trunk in the 3Com switch (NAC Trusted interface).
Anybody has experienced this before and get solved?

yes, you can do it, just remember that the accounting server IP address must be the "service IP address" of the trusted management interface of the CAS

  • Configuring and Troubleshooting Virtual Switching System (VSS)

    With Anand Ganesan
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about how to monitor, configure, and troubleshoot the Virtual Switching System (VSS) in Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches with expert Anand Ganesan.
VSS is network system virtualization technology that pools multiple Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches into one virtual switch, increasing operational efficiency, boosting nonstop communications, and scaling system bandwidth capacity to 1.4 Tbps. At the initial phase, a VSS will allow two physical Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches to operate as a single logical virtual switch called a virtual switching system 1440 (VSS1440).
    For more information, visit:  www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps9336/prod_qas0900aecd806ed74b.html
The VSS simplifies network configuration and operation by reducing the number of Layer 3 routing neighbors and by providing a loop-free Layer 2 topology.

    hi,
I have hyper v running on windows 8.1 pro laptop and have 2 virtual switches configured. the ethernet connection works great all the time.
The wireless has problems with wireless networks. half pics up my home network as i want and the other half picks up a wireless network in range which is not mine.
How do i fix this, as when this happens i cannot use the virtual machine to connect to the network or the internet
My home wireless network is the KamelsHome which you see is connected thus the laptop works. But as you can see the VEthernet (Wireless) is picking up a NETGEAR88.

This happens to me occasionally. I will close ALL applications and then try to switch modes and its says I have an audio application open or the device is in use. Anyone experienced this and know a solution?

    kaluminati,
Some application of yours may not have ended properly and thus could still be running in the background process and holding on to the sound device. You can access Windows Task Manager and check the processes that are still running and end it.

  • Differences between 6500-E and 6500 chassis?

Can someone please provide a link to a Cisco url/document describing the differences between the 6500-E and 6500 series chassis? I've heard references to an increase in backplane/switch fabric throughput and also an increase in number of POE devices supported but nothing that can be verified on the Cisco site. Thank you in advance.

    Long,
I have not seen a specific document that compares the 6500 and 6500-E Chassis.
The only major difference between the 6500 and 6500-E Chassis is the 6500-E series switches offer enhancements to scale beyond the 4000W power supply. The 6500-E provides higher density PoE deployments that require more power than the original 6500 chassis can deliver. My undertanding is, there is no difference in backplane throughput between the 6500 and 6500-E Chassis.

  • NAC OOB VIRTUAL GW PROBLEM

    Hi,
I am trying to setup a NAC OOB Virtual GW Scenario (attached is the visio schematic of the setup):
Switch: 3550 (ios 12.2(46) adv ip serv)
    NAC 4130 appliances: v4.1.6 (also tried v4.5)
Switch Configuration of the trunks to the CAS):
    - int f0/23 (connected to CAS e0) -> dot1q trunk with native vlan 999 and allowed vlans 199 (mgt vlan of cas) and 10 (hosts access vlan)
    - int f0/21 (connected ro CAS e1) -> dot1q trunk with native vlan 998 and allowed vlans 100 (hosts authentication vlan)
    - SVIs on switch: 199, 10, 200 (CAM mgt vlan), 99 (dns, dhcp)
The problem I am facing is that the host once connected to a managed port is able to acquire an ip from the access vlan from the dhcp server but is not redirected to the login page. I tried to follow some hints provided in previous posts but none of them worked for me. I configured the following:
    - Login Page
    - Configured IP based traffic control on the unautheticated role to permit all traffic (also host based to permit https://192.168.199.1 -> cas' ip with trusted dns my dns server 192.168.99.1)
    - Managed subnet with unused ip in access vlan (192.168.10.253) and vlan id that of the auth vlan (100)
    - vlan mapping between untrusted vlan 100 and trusted vlan 10
    - tried to access a resolvable website by my dns from the host (as per the suggestion from a previous post for someone who was facing the same prob)
    - also tried to access the cas' login page from the host with vain, eventhough it is accessible from trusted subnets
Note: I followed the configuration guide of both v4.1.6 and v4.5 and with both versions I was facing the same problem.
I would be very thankful for any hints to help me solve this issue.
Questions: When the host is connected to a managed host (assigned to the managed vlan 100) and it is assigned an ip from the a access vlan 10. Shouldn't I be able to access the managed subnet case I configured ip traffic control policy to permit all traffic from untrusted to trusted? also shouldn't I be able to resolve website's ip with "nslookup x.com" since dns traffic is by default configured and also trusted dns server 192.168.99.1 is configured?
Thanks in advance for any help.

It arised to be that the 3550/3560/3750 are not supported for Central Deployment. The problem is solved.
Cisco Catalyst 3550/3560/3750 and NAC Appliance In-Band Central Deployment
For Cisco Clean Access (NAC Appliance) in In-Band Central Deployment mode, when a Cisco Catalyst 3560/3750 series switch is used as a Layer 3 switch and if both ports of the Clean Access Server (CAS) are connected to the same 3560/3750 switch, the minimum switch IOS code required is Cisco IOS release 12.2(25)SEE.
Because caveat CSCdu27506 is not fixed on the Catalyst 3550 series switch, when the Catalyst 3550 is used as a Layer 3 switch, it cannot be used in NAC Appliance In-Band Central Deployment.

  • NAC - OOB - Virtual IP - users lost connecti

    Hi.
So my problem is the follow:
I have i my customer a NAC OOB - Virtual Ip Gateway.
So, we have a many port profiles. Each Port profile witch its own authentication vlan and access vlan, for example:
    TI -  auth vlan 585 -  access vlan 85
    ENGINEERING - auth vlan 586 - access vlan 86
    And works very very fine.
    BUT
There is a common location called PLATFORM (auth vlan 587, access vlan 87) where, to put port profile on each User interface on the switch after 20 minutes or less, the machines that are on this profile (VLANs 587, 87) lose network connectivity, without bounce.
I checked and, some machines for no reason, are changed to vlan authentication without snmp Linkdown and even get stuck in with User certifield device list.
Other machines remain in vlan access, but lose all connectivity to the network without ping gateway and any other device.
Another vlan (for ex: vlan 1) that is not controlled by NAC continues to communicate normally.
I tried to see any logs on the switch but could not see anything abnormal (yet).
Other locations with others port profiles work normally.
The uplinks on this switches and interfaces users dont have any CRC or errors.
Could anyone help me? This is causing problems in my account.

    Hi,
I understand then that the clients are not connecting through local or SSO mode, is that correct?
I would suggest 3 things so far:
    1. Check the logs on the switches where the CAS's are connected, I had a similar problem where CAS would stop responding and the switches would complain about vlan mismatch or mac flapping, if you notice errors on the switches verify that you have:
    * Vlan mapping enabled correctly
    * Different native VLAN on the switch interface for trusted and untrusted CAS ethx.
    * The correct vlans configured on each port: for untrusted just the authentication (layer 2) vlans, for trusted interface the access vlan (20) and the management vlan.
    2. Enable the management vlan tag on the trusted interface of the CAS and use your CAS management vlan.
    3. On the CAM go to the Clean access server section, manage one of your CAS's, the first window will show the services currently running on the CAS, verify if the SSO service is running, if it's not running, verify the configuration. If it's not allowing you to enable it, verify the time settings on your devices, the AD user and all the other settings needed for this to work.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,

  • IPS 4270 and VSS (Virtual Switch System)

    HI,
I would like to know whether it is possible to connect just One IPS 4270 to a VSS in etherchannel mode (two IPS interfaces per each 6500 Switch).
    Thanks in advance

You can re-use the virtual domain ID as long as the the two VSS chassis are not directly connecting to each other. Take a look at this link:
    VVirtual Domain
Defining the domain identifier (ID) is the first step in creating a VSS from two physical chassis. A unique domain ID identifies two switches that are intended to be part of the same VSS pair that defines the VSS domain. Assignment of a domain ID allows multiple virtual switch pairs to be connected in a hierarchical manner. Only one VSS pair can participate in a particular domain. The domain ID can have a value ranging from 1 to 255 and must be unique when multiple VSS pairs are connected together. See Figure 2-2.

  • Question about VLAN handling for virtual switches and vnets

    Regards,
We are encountering some problems when using VLAN tagged 10g ethernet. We assign the VLANS to the vsw like this:
    ldm add-vsw net-dev=net2 mtu=9000 vid=vid1,vid2,.... mode=sc primary-vsw0 primary
the mode=sc is due to us planning for possible Solaris Cluster installation for some guests. The guest get its vnets like this:
    ldm add-vnet mode=hybrid vid=vid1 vnet0 primary-vsw0 guest
we use mode=hybrid since this is a NIU 10 gig eth interface in a T4-4. My questions are:
    1. Do you see any problems with this config ?
    2. Do you know of any problems with using VLAN tagging in virtual switches/virtual nets for LDOMs ?
    3. When adding, subtracting VLANS to the vsw does it need to recreated or does a ldm set-vsw vid=vid1,... work dynamically (this goes of course for other vsw properties as well) ?

    Hi,
    1.
    - If you want that the vnet is handling the VLAN tagging for you, you need to set the pvid.
    - If you want to do the VLAN tagging in the guest LDOM (via the interface name vnetVLANID00x), it is OK.
    2. We use VLAN tagging in vnetX via setting the pvid for the vnet for guest LDOMs, and we use the interface name based VLAN tagging in the primary domain on the vsw interface.
    3. You don't need to recreate, you can set it. I'm not sure if you need to reboot to let it take effect, but IIRC it is dynamic (should be easy to test).
    Bye,
    Alexander.

  • Differences between VMware virtual switches and HyperV virtual switches

    Hello,
I've deployed an OpenVpn infrastructure (configured in bridging mode) within a VMmare ESX4 environment.
    The scenario is this:
A remote client connects to the OpenVpn server (VM1), VM1 also owns an interface where traffic passes in tagged mode complaint to vlan 8021q, VM2 owns a interface on the vlan10. VM1 can ping VM2 without any problem (supposing vlan 10 traffic), but the remote
    client cannot ping VM2.
The scenario works perfectly in a physical environment (without any virtual machine).
    The scenario is like this:
Analizing traffic with Wireshark on the VM2 I've noticed that an ARP request leaves from the remote client MAC to the destination host interface of VM2 (broadcast ARP request).
The host VM2 sends an ARP reply directly to the MAC address of the remote client.
This last packet doesn't pass the vSwitch, so it isn't received by the remote client and the ping fails.
This occurs because the VMware ESX vSwitch only knows all the MACs of virtual machines within the ESX environment, it doesn't learn MAC addresses like a physical real switch and it discards packets sent to unknown unicast MAC addresses (broadcast traffic instead
is passed). Within the VMware infrastructure this is solvable only by using of the Promiscuos mode feature of the virtual switch port.
I would like to ask if HyperV virtual switches work like VMware ESX virtual switches. So in Hyper-V virtual switches do learn mac addresses actually like a physical switch?

This last packet doesn't pass the vSwitch, so it isn't received by the remote client and the ping fails. This occurs because the VMware ESX vSwitch only knows all the MACs of virtual machines within the ESX environment, it doesn't learn MAC addresses

Thank you; I did the same in Wireshark and noticed the ARP reply was not being received by my VMware guest Hyper-V host, so I did an Internet search and found this document at the top of the list. For other people that came here because their VMware guest
Hyper-V lab server's SCVMM 2012 SP1 logical switch virtual network adapter combination could not ping other VMware guests; In addition to "Accept" for your VMware vSwitch (described above), you will need to change your VM Network VLAN ID to "All".

  • Muvo TX FM: is the 256mb slightly faster than the 512mb when switching modes?(and starting u

I was just wondering if the muvo tx fm 52 is slightly slower than the muvo tx fm 256 when switching modes ?
because i have the 52 and my dad has the 256 and i noticed there's a difference
both of them have the lastest firmware on them .5.0
both of them are reasonably full / capcaity close to full
when i switch from radio mode to music in folders mode : the transition between the two modes are smooth and immediate on the 256
but when i do this on my 52 : i seem to have to an extra second of waiting time before it goes back into music mode
yeah i know it's a bit nitpicky to bring such a thing up , but i thought it was strange that there would be a difference , since they're both the same model and firmware ( only a difference in capacity between the 2 )
this occurance didn't start to happen until i upgraded it recently to .5.0 ( when this occurance starting appearing )
or maybe it's just my 52 that does this ?
anyway another thing that's strange that i've tested :
if i do switch back to an older firmware version for my 52mb : this extra delay between switching modes is non-existant / goes away
( it was non-existant before i upgraded to the new firmware )
also another thing i've noticed is the 256 seems to be faster at starting up after turning on too
when i first turn it on , only takes till the /4 of the sand in the egg timer icon and drained to the bottom before it starts playing music
with the 52 , it doesn't start playing music until all the sand in egg timer icon has drained to the bottom ( a second longer wait before the music starts playing )
also another thing to note is that
the firmware that came with the 256 , was .5.0 ( bought in april )
i bought the 256 a couple of months ago
with my 52 , which i had since december : i've used firmware old firmware that came with that ( i think .0.04 ) ( until switching to the newest firmware recently )
i was just wondering what's calling this extra seconds worth of delay in my 52 , that's not present in the 256 ?Message Edited by low-quality on 07-04-2005 0:43 PMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 04:08 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:37 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:38 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:38 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:38 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:39 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:39 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:39 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:40 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:40 AMMessage Edited by low-quality on 07-05-2005 05:42 AM

Sounds like it could be because of the capacity difference, maybe a mod could confirm this.
