Named parameter substitution failure in set clause of update statement.

Hi ,
     Following is a method in my session bean. Its trying to update 'Activities' entity through JPQL. I am using a named parameter 'var2' to set the value of 'actPst1Cd' field.
          String stmt = "update Activities A set A.actPstlCd = :var2 where A.actRmatId = :var1";
          Query query = em.createQuery(stmt);
          query  = query.setParameter("var1", new BigDecimal(1));
          query  = query.setParameter("var2", getVar2Value());
          return query.executeUpdate();
     On execution I am getting the following error.
     java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: There is no parameter with name ':var2' in this JPQL-query. at com.sap.engine.services.orpersistence.query.QueryImpl.assertValidTypedValue(QueryImpl.java:303) at com.sap.engine.services.orpersistence.query.QueryImpl.setParameter(QueryImpl.java:369) at session.Test2Bean.testUpdate(Test2Bean.java:53) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:585)
     The named parameters in where clause are getting substituted successfully. Can anyone  please tell me why its failing in set clause?
            I am using SAP NetWeaver Application Server, Java(TM) EE 5 Edition for deployment.
Thanks,
Prasoon.

Hi Robin ,
   Thanks for replying..
   Issue I have Posted here is coming in <b>Java EE 5 Edition</b>.
   Regarding another post, I wanted to try CE 7.1 version when I found that my current entities ( which works in  Java EE 5 Edition )  are giving error in CE7.1 because of Bigdecimal check in Entity Validation, hence posted another post.
Thanks,
Prasoon

  • Help with doing SELECT sub query within the SET of an UPDATE statement

    After doing some research, it appears as if it's possible to use a SELECT subquery in the SET of an UPDATE statement.  i did find some examples and here is my code, however when I click the "check" button it's saying the field (my entire select subquery) is unknown and neither in one of the specified tables or defined by a "DATA".  Do I have a syntax issue or is there another reason why it's not taking this as a valid statement?  Thanks for the help!
    LOOP AT IT_DATA
    UPDATE /BIC/AZDP_O0140
       SET /BIC/ZCOUNTER = (SELECT COUNT( DISTINCT MATERIAL )
                            FROM /BIC/AZDP_O0140
                            WHERE MATERIAL EQ IT_DATA-MATERIAL
                            GROUP BY MATERIAL).
    ENDLOOP.

    my Update does indeed have a WHERE clause but because of the issue i'm having, all my criteria in my WHERE is black text in the ABAP editor.  The editor doesn't even recognize the keywords "WHERE" or "EQ".  Below is my entire statement which contains all WHERE criteria in both the Update and the Subquery, i've just removed it for testing to help simplify the query and eliminate as many other factors as posisble that may be causing problems:
    LOOP AT IT_DATA.
       UPDATE /BIC/AZDP_O0140
       SET /BIC/ZCOUNTER = (SELECT COUNT( DISTINCT MATERIAL ) FROM /BIC/AZDP_O0140
       WHERE WHSE_NUM EQ IT_DATA-WAREHOUSE
        AND  PLANT EQ IT_DATA-PLANT
        AND  /BIC/ZTRAN_NO EQ IT_DATA-TRANS_NUM
        AND  DELIV_NUMB EQ IT_DATA-DELIVERY
        AND  MATERIAL EQ IT_DATA-MATERIAL
        GROUP BY MATERIAL)
       WHERE WHSE_NUM EQ IT_DATA-WAREHOUSE
        AND  PLANT EQ IT_DATA-PLANT
        AND  /BIC/ZTRAN_NO EQ IT_DATA-TRANS_NUM
        AND  DELIV_NUMB EQ IT_DATA-DELIVERY
        AND  MATERIAL EQ IT_DATA-MATERIAL.
    ENDLOOP.
    i should also mention the sources i found were not within the SAP Library but instead on other third-party ABAP websites.  so because i was having issues i wanted to post here to see if anyone else has come up with a working solution.  but if this cannot be done i can likely come up with a solution for my needs using multiple internal tables, this would just have been much easier since i can get a query like this to do what i want in SQL Server.  Thought i could utilize this in ABAP as well.

  • Any parameter is required to set "select for Update"

    Hi all,
    For using "Select for Update" statement, is any parameter is required to set at the database level.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
    I did't get any problem. but before implementing that I searching for any overheads.
    I had read that some transaction isolation level should be required to use "select for update".
    I did't catch it clearly.
    Can u explain briefly if you know/any body know.

  • Where clause in UPDATE statement is ignored

    I have the following procedure that updates a field in a table. The only problem is that all rows in the table are updated like the update statement doesn't have a where clause. When I hard code the number (733) in the where clause it works as expected. Even if I don't alias the table name it still updates all rows in the table. Any ideas?
    DECLARE
    extlinkid CONSTANT NUMBER := 733;
    newURL CONSTANT VARCHAR2(250) := 'mailto:[email protected]';
    BEGIN
    UPDATE SCHEMA.TABLE A
    SET A.URL = newURL
    WHERE (A.EXTLINKID = extlinkid);
    commit;
    END;

    Oracle is resolving your variable extlinkid as the column in the table, so your UPDATE statement is equivalent to:
    UPDATE schema.table a
    SET a.url = newurl
    WHERE (a.extlinkid = a.extlinkid);Which, of course, matches every record in the table. You need to change the name of your variable to something that is not a column name.

  • Sql parameter substitution problems

    Hi,
    I am having problems with the sql parameter substitution. I have a query that
    looks like this:
    select name,value from table where name in ('name1','name2');
    I have tried building a string that equals "'name1','name2'" and passing it as
    a parameter to sql entering the javaDoc comments like:
    select name,value from table where name in ({nameString})
    The problem is that when it is substituted and set to the database it looks like
    this:
    select name,value from table where name in ('\'name1\',\'name2\'');
    This will not work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this using a
    database control. Basically I'm looking for the ability to create dynamic sql
    statements.
    Thanks for your help.

    James

    Anurag,
    Thanks for the reply. I don't think that this solves my problem though. I will
    never know how many strings to pass. It's all based on what the user wants, they
    could ask for 2, 20, or any other number of names. It sounds like using a Database
    control is not really possible for this situation. What do you think? Any chance
    of this making into workshop in the future or in these situations is creating
    an EJB the only way to go?
    Thanks again.

    Hi James,
    This result is same as what you will get on executing the following prepared
    statement:
    conn.prepareStatement("select empid from empdemo where name in (?)");
    pstmt.setString(1,"'Person 1','Person 2','Person 3'");
    pstmt3.execute();
    Workshop's DBControl internally uses a PreparedStatement, hence you would
    obtain the same result.
    To get it working, you will need to pass in the 3 strings separately
    as
    below:
    conn.prepareStatement("select empid from empdemo where name in
    pstmt.setString(1,"Person 1");
    pstmt.setString(1,"Person 2");
    pstmt.setString(1,"Person 3");
    Please do let me know if you have further queries regarding the issue.

  • Named parameter binding

    ODP.Net document said :
    The position of an OracleParameter added into the
    OracleParameterCollection is the binding position in the SQL statement.Position is 0-based and is used only for positional binding.
    If named binding is
    used, the position of an OracleParameter in the
    OracleParameterCollection is ignored.
    Then,how can I use named parameter binding ?

    Look up the BindByName property of the Oracle Command. It defaults to false (bind params by position). Set it to true for bind by name.

  • Why named parameter can't be used multiple times in PL/SQL block in JDBC

    with the following PL/SQL block, when I run int in JDBC, I get an error,
    it says, The number of parameter names does not match the number of registered parameters.
    if all named parameters are used only once, then my program works fine.
    My old program uses Oracle Forms to run the attached PL/SQL block correctly, I just want to run them in JDBC without more efforts, I don't want to rewrite all PL/SQL blocks.
    Does oracle driver support this case? why the PL/SQL block can work in Oracle Forms but failed in JDBC?
    Can we have an another solutions to avoid rewriting the PL/SQL block to stored procedure?
    if I use following SQL:
    BEGIN if :q is null then :q := 'X'; else :q := 'Y'; end if; END;
    , Using java program:
    import java.sql.*; public class RunPLSQLBlock { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL = "BEGIN  if :q is null then  :q := 'X'; else :q := 'Y'; end if; END;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter("q", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString("q", "A"); stmt.execute(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    in the coding, only "q" registered, I got:
    java.sql.SQLException: The number of parameter names does not match the number of registered praremeters at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleSql.setNamedParameters(OracleSql.java:314) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleCallableStatement.execute(OracleCallableStatement.java:10096) at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatementWrapper.execute(OraclePreparedStatementWrapper.java:5693) at RunPLSQLBlock.main(RunPLSQLBlock.java:28)
    now, tried to register 3 indexes, changed fragments are below.
    import java.sql.*; public class RunPLSQLBlock { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL = "BEGIN  if :q is null then  :q := 'X'; else :q := 'Y'; end if; END;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter(2, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter(3, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString(1, "A"); stmt.execute(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    now error changed to:

    , now tried register only 1 position like below,
      CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL);   stmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.VARCHAR);   stmt.setString(1, "A");   stmt.execute();
    , it says:

    , now let try a OK case, which use all named parameters only once. coding like below, SQL and Java listed below.
    BEGIN if :q is null then :r := 'X'; else :s := 'Y'; end if; EXCEPTION   WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN     NULL; END;
    import java.sql.*; public class RunPLSQLBlock { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL = "BEGIN  if :q is null then  :r := 'X'; else :s := 'Y'; end if; END;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter("q", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter("r", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter("s", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString("q", "A"); stmt.execute(); System.out.println("Q :" + stmt.getString("q")); System.out.println("R :" + stmt.getString("r")); System.out.println("S :" + stmt.getString("s")); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    , the case give us the following output:
    Q :A R :null S :Y
    2nd part, I also tried another scheme, to use 'execute immediate', test code attached below, it also have errors.
    begin execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out :q, out :r; end;
    , Java Code:
    import java.sql.*; public class RunDynamicSQL { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL ="begin execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out :q, out :r; end;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter("q", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter("r", Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString("q", "A"); stmt.execute(); System.out.println("Q :" + stmt.getString("q")); System.out.println("R :" + stmt.getString("r")); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    , the output is, we can find when parameter 'q' is IN OUT mode, we can't get its final value:
    Q :null R :Z
    , now I tried my workaround, it works fine by using a temporary variable, now my named parameter is split to 2 roles, one is for IN, another is for OUT, now I can get final out value.
    declare q clob; r clob; begin q := ?; r := ?; execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out q, out r; ? := q; ? := r; end;
    , my test java code,
    import java.sql.*; public class RunDynamicSQL { public static void main(String s[]) throws SQLException { String URL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.11.199:1521:TIBSTEST"; Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); con = (Connection) DriverManager.getConnection(URL, "FBP1DEV", "FBP1DEV"); String SQL ="declare q clob;r clob; begin q := ?; r := ?; execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;' using in out q, out r; ? := q; ? := r; end;"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(SQL); stmt.registerOutParameter(3, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.registerOutParameter(4, Types.VARCHAR); stmt.setString(1, "A"); stmt.setString(2, "A"); stmt.execute(); System.out.println("Q :" + stmt.getString(3)); System.out.println("R :" + stmt.getString(4)); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (con != null) { con.close(); } } } }
    , the output is expected,
    Q :Y R :Z

    Hi, thanks for your response, now I see, the named parameter is for stored procedure only, for PL/SQL block we name it placeholder name.
    After cast my java.sql.CallableStatement to oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement, I can find setStringAtName,
    now, I have only one question:I can't find corresponding methods for registerOutputParameter, how we fetch output value?
    I tried to callableStatement.getString("q"); it reports errors, but there are no ordinal binding in my source code, does placeholder names doesn't support OUT mode?
    Java:
    CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall("BEGIN  if :q is null then  :r := 'X'; else :s := 'Y'; end if; END;");
    oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement call = (oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement) stmt;
    call.registerOutParameter("q", Types.VARCHAR);
    call.registerOutParameter("r", Types.VARCHAR);
    call.registerOutParameter("s", Types.VARCHAR);
    call.setStringAtName("q", "A");
    call.setStringAtName("r", "A");
    call.setStringAtName("s", "A");
    call.execute();
    System.out.println("Q :" + call.getString("q"));
    </Java>

         at RunPLSQLBlock.main(RunPLSQLBlock.java:33)
    </output>by the way, in my below-mentioned SQL 'problematic', when my code uses 'execute immediate' and use placeholder names in IN OUT mode, we always get NULL value (i.e. ':q'), but we can get final value of ':r' when ':r' is OUT mode only; now I get a workaround attached in below-mentioned 'my workaround' block, which split the IN OUT roles to 2 parts, it can work now;
    It seems that the difference between 'problematic' and 'my workaround' imply that there are something work unexpectedly when the driver process the placeholder names, because 'my workaround' and ':r in problematic case' make sure the 'execute immediate' returned output values correctly, unluckly driver layer can't get return values.

         execute immediate 'begin if :q is null then :q := ''X''; else :q := ''Y''; :r := ''Z''; end if; end;'

    Also, i've tried utilizing the support link but it seems to hang perpetually (regardless of browser) when checking my subscription.

    Hi,
    Two points need confirmed:
    1.Have you already purse the ClearDB database?
    2.What's error did you encounter when you scalable WP site?

    i'm getting this warning,but i dont know where is it located.please let me know,where should i rectify this?
    WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.
    To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
    Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging.
    To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog].

    Hello,
    This seems not related to SQL Server but more related to Fusion or a missing DLL. The following resources may help you:
    http://blog.mediawhole.com/2010/08/enable-fusion-assembly-binding-logging.html
    http://jamesecampbell.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-to-enable-assembly-binding-logging.html

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5986930/assembly-binding-logging-is-turned-off
    Please verify if a missing DLL is specified before the "WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF" message.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Rayan,
    It should be visible in show route-map command. I am not sure if that is a bug or unsupported feature. What is the IOS version you are using in the 4503 device?
    SW#sh route-map
    route-map test, permit, sequence 10
      Match clauses:
        interface FastEthernet0/1

  • Runtime parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time is set to 1700

    u201CCaller 70u201D missing error. This is happening because the runtime parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time is set to 1700. If I edit it to 15000 temporarily and re run the load, the load is successful.
    this is popping up at the point of updating data targets, in the 1st set of data package while the second loads successfully.
    Krishna.

    The runtime parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time defines the time limit for a foreground process. While backgound processes are permitted to run with out any limit. With this parameter the foreground/dialog processes are permitted to run for the defined amount of time, beyond this the system will cancel them terming it as time limit exceeded error.
    The standard defined by SAP for this parameter is 3600, but depending on our business need we can increase or decrease this value. Usually taken care by Basis Administrators.
