Naming a Range of Files

I was wondering if there is a quick way to name a range of files. I have many photos of my garden, for example, all with different names. Is there a way to choose a range of these, and name them all Garden1, Garden2, etc?
Thanks for any help.

Move them all into the frontmost Finder window and run the following from the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder:
tell application "Finder"
set the_files to count files of window 1
repeat with this_number from 1 to the_files
set name of file this_number of window 1 to "Garden" & this_number
end repeat
end tell

  • Need help with EXS24 "read velocity range from file name"

I am trying to import 127 drum samples to a single key using the option shown here. The option says "Map to key dropped on and read velocity range from file name". I can find no documentation in the manuals on how to do this. What is the syntax required in the file name to make this work? I need to do several of these imports. The capability is cleary there, but I need help on how the file name should be formatted. My thanks to anyone who can help.

    Hi
Not a direct answer to your question, but if you are doing a lot of sample mapping etc, you may want to check out Redmatica's KeyMap Pro or the simpler Keymap 1:

  • 1) Select a range of files in Finder; and 2) Cut files!

    Two questions:
    1) Why is it not possible to select a range of files in Thumbnail view in the Finder while pressing Shift...works fine in the List view? Makes no sense at all!
    2) Why is it not possible to cut files in the finder using "CMD   X" or "Cut" ... I can only copy or drag an drop? That ***** bigtime!

    1) Not really, what I want to do is select the first file then press shift and then select the last file of the range. Usually this should select all the files between the first and the last in the range (and that actually happens in the list view) ...but NOT in the stupid Thumbnail view (which I need to organize my pictures).

  • Select a range of files to delete

How can I select a range of files to delete?  I have ten files I want to delete.  Do I have to select each one individually?

If it is in Finder and they are listed one after the other in a continuous fashion, select the first file, hold the shift key and select the last file. Then delete.
If on the Desktop you can choose them by using your mouse pointer to draw a square around them, that will selct all.

  • Working with naming redundancy of MTS files

I am new to working with MTS files in prelude and eventually Premiere and have a few questions about the proper workflow.  I would be very grateful for any wisdom.
first off background on the project:
    - We have .mts files from several different consumer Vixia cameras
    - The cameras used the same naming convention for each card.  (starting with 000.mts working its way up).  These means we have several different .mts files, with the same name.
    - The file structures were copied over directly from the cards, and therefore unchanged.  However, I still can't work with the metadata for some of the clips... and therefore suspect i need to transcode some of them.
    My Questions:
    1.  Is it a problem that there is a redundancy in the naming of the .mts files, and that i will have several clips in the project with the same name?  All the clips are organized into a folder structure based on date and roll, so i'm not worried about the name redundancy when i'm actually editing.  I am worried that if the media gets disconnected Adobe won't know which clip to look for, and may try to reconnect the wrong clip with the same name.  Does Adobe reconnect based only of file name, or does it also look at the path?
I'm scared if i change the file name, it will be hard to make sure the file name is changed across the folder structure, and therefore the native structure could be corrupted.
What is a best practice workflow for working with .mts files with the same name in adobe?
    2.  Alot of the footage is shot by non-professionals, who didn't know to break up clips.  Therefore, we have a lot  of "spanned" .mts files.  is there any solution to spanned files?  I've read in a previous forum that there is not, and that the only way to avoid the issue is to transcode.  Is that information still true?
    3. If i do have to transcode, what is the recommended codec?  I usually go with prores 4444, but that codec's file size is way too big for the amount of footage we have to go through.  Any suggestions?
I would be so grateful if anyone can help on these questions!!

Working with these AVCHD files just involves a bit of care and proper project management.
eg Well named Source Folders (on local hard drives) and well named "rushes" Folders in your Premiere Project.
Take care when importing/ ingesting to not overwrite the files at any point..
No need to rename or transcode source files.
Relocating / Relinking is not an issue.  (especially if you dont lose them in the first instance).
If workflow involves additional pipelines  eg delivery via edl  to a Color Suite.
Ensure timecode and source files are clearly set up in a manageable way.
BTW - If one is able to shoot with control of timecode..its helpful.  eg Card 1 = 01:00:00:00, Card 2 =02:00:00:00 etc...

  • Keyboard won't select range of files, except...

Some time ago, I discovered a problem: When I highlight a file in Finder, then highlight another file while holding down the Shift key, none of the files in between are highlighted. In other words, I can't select a range of files for deleting or modifying.
I THINK I used to be able to do this, though I can't remember for sure. But my hunch is that this problem started after I upgraded to Leopard, which is otherwise working great.
Here's where it gets strange: If I type a word into Spotlight, click "Show All," then use the Shift key to select a range of files in the "Searching this Mac" window that opens, it DOES work. I've tried it with both the keyboard built into my MacBook Pro and the Kensington keyboard I generally use, with the same results.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on or how I can troubleshoot it? Thanks.

    Paul,
"I wonder why the documentation suggests the shift-click method."
It does work in the timeline and clip viewer though.
I don't know what to say about the documentation, but the behavior in the clip pane does make more sense if you think of clips there as being more like icons on your desktop.
They're not necessarily in any particular order or sequence. Sure, if you've just imported from your camera, they will be, but after a while I find my clip pane becomes sort of a random jumble of things, not unlike icons strewn about on the desktop.

  • Changing the Naming convention of Log Files

    Hi,
Is there a way to change the naming convention of log files. Instead of
    00000000.jdb, 00000001.jdb, ... to
    DB000000.jdb, DB000001.jdb etc
    Thanks in advance.

No, there isn't a way to do that. We didn't anticipate a need to do that -- could you please explain the need?
Putting a prefix on the file name would unnecessarily limit the total size of the data set, if file names are limited to the 8.dot.3 format as you've shown.

  • Named destinations within a file on a network

Is it possible for a PDF document to reference a specific destination page within another PDF file stored on a network? I'm familiar with the mechanism to do this in an html reference to a server file (#page=7 or #nameddest=), but it doesn't seem to function within a network.
    Thanks in advance,
    Cliff Ober

    Cliff,
I would say no. Adobe's "Parameters for Opening PDF Files" says "You can open a PDF document with a command or URL that specifies exactly what to display (a named destination or specific page)..."
The key here is it is via command or a URL. PDF-to-PDF links in a network setting don't fit into either picture.

  • Link to named anchor in current file not working

Links to named anchors are not working at this particular site. Works with Konqueror.
Go to this web site: http://www.kusc.org/playlist/
Right below the calendar displays is a section "Playing this Hour" and below is list hours for AM and PM. You should be able to click one of the hours and page should skip down to that hour in the playlist. This doesn't work with FIREFOX 7. Has not work since FIREFOX 5 or 6 at least. Works with other browsers.
Executing FIREFOX 7.0 on openSUSE 11.4. Mouseover shows the link as an anchor with #. Although, the referenced page is not the same. But again, this works with Konqueror on Linux and IE on Windows.

Something to do with your coding. The page we opens is HTML not a PDF file. When we click on the links, it opens the PDF. I can see that destination tag along with the URL and the PDF is properly bookmarked. So check ur code.

  • Naming huge amounts of files after "undelete" / photorec / etc?

    Hello!
Does someone already have a neat little script to automatically name a huge amount of files in multiple fuzzy sorts of ways? Like with id3-tags, exif tags, the first line / header of text documents of various formats... sort by file extension, mime-tag, file size if nothing else is there... and stuff? I'm only familiar with very few of the tools required and still failed miserably at getting them all together in a bash script.
If not: any hints on how to get started? I'm still missing a good way to deal with about everything except for images, mp3 & plain text...
    Thx!

I'm not sure if gprename does anything useful - if it does, I can't find it in the GUI.
easytag and krename are great, thanks! Just not fit for so many files and also I'd love if there was a way to do it without choosing pattern for everything manually (starting by the next time I need to do something like this ).  Maybe I should have written that from the beginning: I have about 90M files... might not be a single occasion (people don't learn -.-") and it's not supposed to be perfect: more like a quick & dirty automatic way of making it a little easier for the "end-user" to find his files in this huge mess. I don't care (much) if the script runs for days as long as I don't have to interact with it though, if the result is worth it.
So far now, I managed to reduce the amount of files by about 99% with my script (duplicates, damaged files, very small files, files that have extensions or contain lines of text that indicate they belonged to some programs cache or something), have them sorted by file extensions and give names to word documents, mp3 that have an id3 tag and photos that have exif data available. Most problematic at the moment:
    - Processing odt's at a reasonable speed. Extracting huge amounts to /tmp & grep/sed-ing stuff from the xml sucks (me too stoopid for awk ).
    - No idea how to get rid of all those files that were part of the windows installation or some other program. Especially huge amounts of videos that seem to have been part of tutorial / encyclopedia type of programs and help pages.
    - I'd love to try & get some info from a p2p network. I understand despite it being not very clever, many many people share their whole harddisk, so If I figure out how to query with file hashes or something for "most common file name" and "amount of peers that share / want to download", I could get very far at removing more useless files and naming others.

  • Dynamic file naming when downlaoding the file to target directory

    Dear friend,
My requirement is in the Adapter type File, File Name has to be dynamically generated. (i.e., each time the file name will be different according to the input name from the IDoc field). Can someone help me in this regard ???
    Thanks in advance,
    Jose Augastine

    Hi,
The dynamic filename generation concept is as follows.
In your filename field. just give a variable with % symbols. (eg: %file% ).
Now, under the option Variable Name Substitution, you can give how the value has to be created.
It can be your interface name, sender service name, etc or it can be some value dynamically from your payload.
    For the former, your give
    message:interface_name ,etc
and for the payload part you give,
Payload: "your element root which u wanna acecss"
    Just check this link out,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/bc/bb79d6061007419a081e58cbeaaf28/content.htm
And read the contents under variable substitution and it will help you understand the concepts better.
If you have any clarifications, do get back,
    Regards,
    Bhavesh

  • Naming for Export dmp file in Date and Time

    Dear All,
Please advise me how to give the file name in date and time stamp for the export dmp file and it's log file.Suggest me in Oracle 9i version.
for example the file name get like this 020420041155.dmp and 020420041155.log where date and time are 02/04/2004 11:55 respectively...
Kindly let me know the syntax of filename to be given along with the EXP command..
    Thanking You,
    Ragesh

    Hello
I don't think you can get the exp command to automatically name an export for you. The only way I think you would be able to do it is through a shell script or something where you format the file name yourself and pass it to exp. If you wanted to you could generate the command line through a SQL statement and then spool it out to a file i.e.
    spool runexp.bat
    select 'exp user/pwd@tns file='||TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'DDMMYYYYHH24MI')||'.dmp tables=(table1,table2)' from dual;
spool offThe second option isn't as flexible as the first but if it's just a couple of exports you have to do, it will probably prove to be less work

  • Unix command to delete range of files

    Hi
I need to delete the files including and between these file numbers:
    P0001665877.dbf . . . and P0001665985.dbf
    Is this the correct command?:
    rm P0001665[8-9]*.dbf
    or should it be this:
    rm P0001665[8-985]*.dbf
    Thanks in advance.
    AIX 5.2

Fred is trying to match all the conditions,
you mentioned you need to delete all filename between P0001665877.dbf and P0001665985.dbf
You need to wrap your example by code, we can't tell the exact command you posted, it was parsed a little by forum.

  • Speedgrade: protune to 709.cube limit range of files

Forgive me I don't know a whole lot about color correction or speed grade as a whole so it will be difficult for me to communicate what I am having an issue with. I recently recorded multiple clips with a GoPro in 4K. I put all the clips on the same time one in premiere Pro and exported them to speed grade.
for some of the clips when I apply a look up table such as pro tune to 709.cube it works fine.
however on others when I apply the same look up table it limits the amount I am able to adjust the clip. For example on the RGB parade it only goes to maximum of 70 on one clip and 50 on another.
then on some of the other clips it allows me to do a full range of adjustments and it goes all the way to 100. All these clips recorded the same way and with the same settings so I don't know what the difference would be. I've done nothing but import them and then send them to speedgrade.
I cannot figure this out if anybody can please help me I would greatly appreciate it I don't even know the correct terms to search for Google.

In order to get there and NOW I've started doing a couple things that aren't 'typical' procedure especially when in run & gun mode. Such as put an Expodisc in front of the lens and film a couple seconds while having it pointed sort-of towards the light falling on the area to be shot at least a few times during an event. Yes, I will completely balance to that to start with and if I've got the time may do so later during the event also. But I will just hold it in front of the lens for a second or two (again, quick pointing semi-towards lightsources) every so often, and with that set for middle value on the camera I can then get a pretty decent neutral grade very fast in post.
On loading the items onto my timeline, I'll put things together as they fit ... but before sending over to Sg to grade, with the PrPro bin set for name sort (I don't tend to rename footage) I'll maybe insert a couple of the short gray sections in their appropriate spots in the sequence, use them in Sg to get a quick neutral grade and copy that to the following clips, then color/style those clips. Back in PrPro I'll delete the gray sections. Takes a few seconds to add them, a few seconds to delete them, and saves a LOT of seconds getting to neutral. (Note ... testing your camera by doing a couple seconds at "normal" exposure, then a couple seconds each 2 or three stops under/over isn't a bad idea. If the gray of your shadows always goes a hint of green, but your upper tones go a bit cyan from the middle tones, then you know something to correct or build a Look for that camera.)
The two biggest things I learned to start with grading: 1) TRUST YOUR SCOPES NOT YOUR EYES! and 2) don't confuse neutralization and final coloring!
Waveform gives you a great look at your tonality ... use it to set your bottom & top values. Parade is great for neutralization especially combined with Vectorscope ... watch the three colors in the Parade, and look to the center of the vectorscope ... if there's any significant area that is totally gray/white/black it should align with the center of that scope ... color saturation is higher to the edges, less towards the middle ... and NO color at dead center. If you've got some decent total neutrals no matter light or dark, but nothing centered on the vectorscope, well .. you adjust until that is centered. If you've got a lot of skin, there's a line that runs from the center up to the upper left oft called the "skin" line ... which it isn't but is for all practical purposes. Sometimes I'll put a hard mask on a clip so I'm only seeing someone's face and check that the color stays pretty close to that line.
Getting a good neutral gets you started ... but rarely is it pretty. But without neutral, it's DAMN hard to get to pretty. Go for neutral, then start trusting your eyes to go for pretty.
