NanoFlash audio files on the timeline

Hello,
I am new to the MXF format and have been working mainly with HDV and AVCHD files.
I am interested in buying a Nanoflash and have downloaded the sample file from the CD website.
I have the 1080i60 files.
I have the current version of CS5, and when I inport these clips using the correct XDCAM settings, a place them on the timeline,
the audio portion goes down to the Audio Track number 9.  I am use to the audio track being right next to the video track or in the Audio 1 track.
Question:  Am I doing something wrong or is this normal for MXF files?
The clip plays fine, but having the audio down on Track 9 is wierd for me.
Any advice or help is appreciated.
~ Rookie

Thanks Harm for the reply but this isn't the case, at least I don't
think it is. The audio track from CD is stereo, it shows a left and right.
I cannot move that audio track either, it's stuck on track nine.  When I try to move it the video portion moves with it.
That is probably a seperate issue...I'm not real skilled with CS5 yet.
I thought I read in another post too where the audio from the NanaFlash was showing up on 9.
I find this a bit strange having 8 empty audio tracks between the Video and audio.
Weird.  Is anyboby else experiencing this with the Nanoflash sample files?

  • Replace audio file in project/timeline

    Hi all,
Does anyone know if there's a way to replace or refresh/update an audio file in the timeline of a project when it's been modified since the current project was created? In other words, I've dragged several bounced wav files into a timeline in a new Logic project, but have since gone back and remixed some of the bounced files. Unfortunately, Logic is not updating the files in the final timeline. Is there a way to manually select the file and refresh or update it with the most recent version?
    Thanks.

Are your new updated audio files in the same folder and with EXACTLY the same name?
In other words, are you doing destructive editing on these files? (Hint: you could, but you'd better do it on copies.)
What are you using to do this editing?
    Cheers

  • Can you have multiple audio bits in the timeline?

I'd like to have multiple audio pieces in one slide. They would be text to speech parts but I want them to be independent in the timeline so I can place them at different times in the slide play or when a button is clicked for example. Is this possible?
I've tried multiple TTS items but they generate audio into 1 audio file in the timeline which is not what I want. If Captivate 6 doesn't have this ability I'm going to be really disappointed.

It is the same work flow IMO but you use a text caption whereas I prefer a highlight box for which I have a dedicated style. Think you find my blog post more complicated because I explained also how to control the audio using show/hide the object it is attached to. In your case you only use them for their timing functionality.  In your original question you didn't speak about TTS... something I never use myself, prefer doing VO.

  • Can you 'zoom' the audio waveform in the timeline?

Unable to find a solution in the help or the FAQ, so I'll post my first question here :-)
I would like to vertically zoom into the audio waveform in the timeline. My situation is that I have a 24-bit audio mix of a classical concert with a fairly large dynamic range, i.e. very loud bits and very quiet bits in one single audio file. I don't see enough waveform detail in the quiet parts, even when I enlarge the track vertically. I haven't found an official way of zooming in, at least in the timeline. The audio-waveform-only display in the source monitor does offer a vertical zoom.
The official help only offers this:
"To see more volume detail when viewing an audio waveform in a Timeline panel, increase the track height."
Which seems to imply that 'zooming' in further to bring out the really quiet parts is not a feature.
I found a bit of a workaround, which is to adjust the clip gain -- the audio waveform changes accordingly. However I'd prefer not to be changing the audio volume every time I need a different vertical zoom on the waveform.
    Thanks,
    3p

While you can't zoom and the vertical adjustment is limited (which sucks because you can zoom in Audition)` there are still a few more options that might help increase the vertical size of the tracks window.
First, to adjust the vertical space of each track in the timeline place your selection tool over the line between the tracks over on the left side of the track where audio controls are and drag the track bottom up or down. You can also increase the workspace of the timeline by dragging it up using the same technique, or if you have another monitor put the timeline over there and make it much bigger.
Second, use the tilde key to expand the entire timeline window. It's the key to the left of #1 key at the top left. Hit it again to return. It will expand any window that is selected. I use this one to get a better look at the waveform. You can also drag the tracks to make them larger.
    good luck!

  • Synchronizing audio AFTER in the timeline

Is there any way to sync audio to a clip AFTER it is in the timeline?
Here's what happened in my case.
I have video clips with embedded audio on them. As I was editing with them, I noticed that the audio levels were low.
I now have the stand alone audio from the recorder that has MUCH better levels recorded on it, but I cannot find a way to sync it to the clips I already have in my timeline. Is there any way short of syncing them, and manually finding the in and out points again on the newly created "synchronized clip" and doing a replace edit? Seems like a lot of work and not very precise. Can I in any way replace the audio married to the clip with the new audio and have it sync without creating a new clip?
Another question for the audio guys. Would adjusting the "Loudness" setting on the original clips to increase their levels lose me quality over replacing them with the audio files from the recorder?
(Our setup on set, btw was a Fostex recorder and boom mic recording to CF cards, and audio was feeding out of that into our F900 camera (so all of the clips have sync sound as well. The audio that hit the camera though, is significantly quieter than the individual sound wav files off of the Fostex)
Hope this makes sense, and thanks!

I will let the other guys address the syncing of a standalone audio track to your video.  There are many ways to do that, and I do that all the time just by aligning the waveform features then pulling the video audio part down to -96dB. You could take all that into a compound clip afterward ... But ...
Regarding the question you asked above.  You Fostex will usally record much better audio than any camera audio circuitry.  I use standalone Tascams to record audio then marry it to the video afterward ... makes a much better experience for the viewer. Your audio level on the Fostex, being much higher in level, will help things, but I still use Loudness on dialog clips.  I don't do anything with commercial music tracks because they have already been maximized for loudness and mixed for proper dynamic range and limiting and compression, etc.
In general you will probably like your audio if you (1) apply loudness, (2) change the volume level slider in inspector to make your timeline audio waveform to where it just rarely touches red peaks ... this usually means the level is around +1dB on the volume level.  Then, make sure you have only the channel selected in your Dual Mono settings under the audio tab, which has an actual audio waveform.  Uncheck the one that does not have a waveform if this applies to you then recheck your volume levels.
Finally, (3) pull over the Adaptive Limiter form the audio section of the effects browser onto your clip ... use it's default settings.  This will add a soft-knee roll off to your louder peaks while leaving the lower features untouched.  I prefer this method to compression because limiters to not boost the noise levels as much as compressors do.  Then, to end up, simply check the volume levels for the whole thing again to make sure you are not above 0dB to +1dB.
If you have special requirements for voices and dialogue, you can use the audio enhancements section and the little EQ icon on the right to open up an EQ feature.  Select 31 band instead of the default 10 band setting then do the following: Increase 3,100Hz by about 6dB to add a degree of excitement to the speaker's voice.  Roll off every frequency below 100Hz by about 3 to 4 dB to reduce the "mud" and rumble.  For a male speaker, boost 250Hz by about 3dB ... for a female voice boost 350dB instead.  Then boost 20KHz to add presence to the audio.
This is probably a lot more than you need, but you will end up making your audio almost as good as it can be by following these basic principles.  Your mileage may vary
    Best wishes.

  • Text created in Premiere showing other text files in the timeline and exports.

    Hi,
I'm creating slates with text generated in Premiere. For each new slate I am duplicating a text layer, Option + Dragging the duplicate file over the text I'd like to replace, then opening the new text layer in the text editor and updating the information.
Things seem fine at first and then randomly text layers in the timeline will show text from other files in the timeline. If I open the text file up in the text editor I see the correct info but not in the timeline.
The only fix I have found is to delete render files, move the text layer around in the timeline, quit and re-open. But still, sometimes when I export, the export preview window will show the wrong text and when I export the file I create shows the wrong text as well.
It seems like Premiere is getting confused by multiple text files in the timeline and is pointing to the wrong cache files.
Thoughts would be a huge help!

Thanks for the tip Kevin. Anything I can do to avoid this in the future?
I've had this happen on a number of projects. My media and project files are on a SAN, cache and previews are local.

How do i drag media to the menu screens in premiere elements 13? I can't see my audio files and the menu screens at the same time. In prior versions it was easy?
It is very cumbersome to "re browse" for audio files/pics/movie clips to add to menu screens. Certainly there is a way to view the media and menu screen at the same time so I can drag and drop?

I think I know exactly what you are seeking and believe it cannot be done in Premiere Elements 11, 12, and 13 as it can be done in versions earlier than 11 where the Disc Layout and Project Media are viewed side by side.
Premiere Elements 13 uses a Movie Menu customization workspace which is not allowing viewing of Project Assets in the Expert workspace at the same time.

  • Playing Audio Files in the Finder-any tips?

Something I've been meaning to ask for ages... and hopefully an easy one to answer!
When playing audio files in the Finder (in 10.5.8), it's really annoying when the file stops playing when you click on another window or application (or even just the Desktop). Is there any way around this?
Someone recommended Snapper, but it's the same story - file stops playing when you click on any other area. Is this problem confined to Leopard (ie. has it been fixed in Snow Leopard?) - never used to be like this in Tiger.
Some of us like to multi-task when listening to audio. The only solution I can see is importing the file into itunes. Any other suggestions?

I assume you're talking about QuickLook?
That's not the Finder, that's QuickLook.
QuickLook is a function that can only work with the foremost selected item, and that makes sense, as you can, for example, QL a PDF within Mail.app, as well.
Why not just use column view (doesn't everybody?) and play it in the Preview pane at the right?
It will keep playing until you close the window or select another object within it.
I use QuickLook when I want to give an audio file a quick once-over - skip here and there, but for actually playing it through, I use the column view preview.

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

    Hi,
    Question:
    1. You have a folder for each DVD whose video contents you edited.
    Answer: Yes
    Question:
You talk about projects 34, 35, 36, 37. Are these projects associated with only one specific DVD?
What is supposed to be in each project - just edited VTS_01_1.VOB or edits from the others in the series
    such as VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB, etc.
    Answer:
Project 34 has edited Premiere Elements file 34 and the VOB files (VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc) from DVD#34
Project 35 has edited Premiere Elements file 35 and the VOB files (VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc) from DVD#35
Project 36 has edited Premiere Elements file 36 and the VOB files (VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc) from DVD#36
    etc.
    Question:
    2. If you screen each DVD video file VOB for a given DVD disc, does the content follow sequentially and cleanly?
    Answer:
    Yes
When I run the VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc from each project the audio and the video are clean and match.
When I run the edited Premiere Elements file that were created after project 34 edited Premiere Elements file project 35, 36, 37 etc. I am getting the audio from project 34
When I run the edited Premiere Elements file that were created  before project 34 edited Premiere Elements file project 1, 2, all the way to 33. I am getting the correct audio

  • Streaming audio file over the network w JMF. How to know when the file end

    Hi
I am streaming audio file over the network using JMF. I want to be able to know when a file end so I can close the streaming session.

If you put a ControllerListener on the Processor that's associated with generating the RTP stream, it'll generate an "EndOfMedia" event when the end of the file is reached.

    hi gang]
i was recording 78 records before and i was useing the eax clean up to clean them up.after i use the clean up im not sure that clean up did anything.it doesnt save the new clean up as a new file.how do i
no if it cleaned anything?also it says you have to use it with the creative media organizer-how do i do
    that?is there a procedure?thanks
    coonsanders

Creative MediaSource can realtime clean up your noisy audio. So, you can connect your records into the line-in of your sound card and then enable MediaSource to do a li've clean up of the line-in.
If your have noisy audio files, you can also use MediaSource to do a li've clean up of the noisy audio files as the files are played via MediaSource.
However, MediaSource does not save the "cleaned" audio. One trick to use What U Hear recording to record the cleaned audio.

  • How to export all tracks into audio files with the same duration

    Hi everybody.
I am trying to export all the tracks into different audio files.
It's 10 soft. instruments and an audio track. I tried with "File>Export>All Tracks as Audio File but the result is 11 audio files with different lengths. As the song is 3 minutes and 20 seconds I would like every single track to be 3.22 sec long.
How do I do it? In fact, each track is composed not only by played instruments but also by moments of silence.
    Thanks!!

The files are different lengths because each instrument does not stop playing at the same moment. It would accomplish nothing other than waste disk space if Logic appended silence to the end of each file in order to make each track the same length. The different lengths you see mean nothing because the absence of appended silence means nothing.
each track is composed not only by played instruments but also by moments of silence.
Naturally. And that silence is accounted for in your exported files, when the silence appears at the beginning of the track, and when it appears during the track. It just isn't appended at the end because that would be pointless. Consider this project, consisting of four tracks:
When I use the command File > Export > All Tracks as Audio Files, Logic will produce four files that look like this:
The files are not equal in length, which is perfectly fine. What's important is that they all start at bar 1, and will align properly when imported into some other program. So all you need is the command you already used: File > Export > All Tracks as Audio Files. In one step, it will produce all the files you need, and it will produce them correctly.
By using Bounce, you would be gaining nothing except extra work, because you would have to do it separately for each file you wanted to produce. With Export > All Tracks as Audio Files, you get all your files with just one command.
    iSchwartz wrote:
exporting tracks means that any panning or automation will not be rendered. So if you want the engineer to put up all of your tracks at unity gain (all faders at zero) and have your tracks & stems reproduce the mix you're hearing at your studio, use bounce, not export.
If you want to have your tracks & stems reproduce the mix you're hearing at your studio, there's no need to go to the extra effort of using Bounce instead of Export. You only need to enable (in the Export dialog) the checkbox "Include Volume/Pan Automation." This is explained on p. 1022. When you do this, any panning or automation will indeed be rendered.
