NATing the default route address

We're NATing the destination addresses, using the ip NAT outside source static command and sending the NATed packets to a specific address through the defaut route (192.168.3.2). Does anybody happen to know if we can use the native address of the default route (192.168.3.2) in the default route statement (ip 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.3.2) and it will get statically NATed or use the already NATed default route address?
I believe the NAT command will only work on the destination addresses that are in the packets and since the default route address will not be a destination address in a packet, it will not work on it, but am not sure.

to be sure I understand the question:
You are translating let´s say the outside address 192.168.1.1/24 to 172.16.16.1/24
ip nat outside source static 192.168.1.1 172.16.16.1
In order for this to work, you would need a static route sending traffic for 172.16.16.0/24 to the next hop of the router where 192.168.1.1/24 originates (let´s say the router has IP address 10.10.10.1):
ip route 172.16.16.0 255.255.255.0 10.10.10.1
Now what is your next step, what do you want to accomplish ?

  • Setting The Default Route in a Jumpstart Install with Multiple Interfaces

    I'm performing a Jumpstart install on a SPARC v240 server, which has multiple network interfaces. I'm trying to configure all of the interfaces as part of the Jumpstart setup. However, Jumpstart doesn't like the default route that I'm supplying. If I add the default_route parameter anywhere but under the first interface, Jumpstart complains that the default route is missing (by making me add it after it dumps out to the suninstall screens. If I add the default route under the first interface, Jumpstart dumps me to the suninstall screen which says that the route could not be added.
    What am I doing wrong ? Am I trying to get Jumpstart to do something that it won't do ?
    Here is my sysidcfg file. The file shown below will cause Jumpstart to dump to the suninstall screen, which will indicate that the route cannot be added:

    That sysidcfg seems a bit odd anyway, have you by any chance put the different interfaces of your jumpstart server into it? Normally you won't need to specify a default router since the jumpstart will figure it out anyway.. Does your jumpstart server have an interface on each network you want to jumpstart?

  • ASA 5505 - 2 Internet Connections, Problems with the Default Route

    Hey there,
    i have a Problem at a Customer Site at the moment. The customer uses an ASA 5505 with two internet connections attached to it. On the first connection (which is the only one in use at the moment) he has some Static-PAT's from Outside to Inside where he translates different services to the internal servers. He also has a site-2-site VPN terminating there and AnyConnect.
    He now wants to switch the Internet Traffic from Inside to the new Internet Connection. Therefore changing the default route to that new ISPs Gateway. The problem now is, that no traffic recieved on the old "outside" Interface is transmitted back out of that old "outside" Interface. And this happens although the "same-security permit intra-interface" command is set.
    Can you tell me what's wrong here? For every Static-PAT from outside to inside there is also a dynamic PAT from inside to outside. But the ASA seems to ignore this. I have not looked into the Logs yet, was too busy finding the problem because i had no real time window to test on the productive ASA.
    Can it be achieved in any way? Having a default route on the ASA which leads any traffic to the second internet connection while still having connections on the first internet connection where no explicit route can be set? Because connections arrive from random IPs?

    Phillip, indeed , I have as well read may comments,it all depends on your environment as they all differ from one another, you best bet is to have a good solid plan for upgrade and fall back. You do have a justification to upgrade for features needed, so I would suggest the following:
    1- Do a search again in forum for ASA code upgrades and look at comments from users that have gone through this process and note their impact in fuctionality if any. I believe this is good resource to collect information .
    2- Very important , look into release notes for a particular version. For example version 8.0, look into open CAVEATS usually at the end of the link page, reading the open bugs gives you clues what has not yet been resolved for that particular code and if in fact could impact you in your environment, it is possible that a particular bug does not realy apply to your environment becuase you have yet not implemented that particualr configuration. Usually we all try to aim towards a GD (General Deployment) code which is what we all understand is most stable but not necesarily means you have to be stack in that code waiting for another GD release, in my personal experience I have upgraded our firewall from 7.2 to 8.0(3) long ago and had no issues, and recently upgraded to 8.0(4)when it was first release in August this year.

    3- AS a good practice precaution -
    a-Backup firewall configs in clear text as well as via tftp code.
    b-Backup running code and ASDM version code currently running in firewall.
    c- Save the output of " show version " to have as reference for all the feature licenses you currently have running as asll as activation keys - good info to have to compare with after upgrade.
    d- Ensure that the code you will be using to upgrade also uses correct ASDM version code.
    I think with thorough assesment and preparation you can indeed minimize impact.

    It's found in the Settings app:
    Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Mail > Default Account

Also, I read in ITunes to check "sync to ICal" but my  ITunes under my iphone and info just says "Sync Calendars" which doesn't transfer it to iCal when I sync my phone.

    In Apple Mail (Yosemite on a MacBook Pro), the default address for outgoing messages from mailboxes that I've set up that are *not* tied to separate email accounts has suddenly become my iCloud address (which I almost never use). I've got my default set to use whatever address is the default for the mailbox I'm in. This works fine for mailboxes associated with different mail accounts, and until recently it worked fine for mailboxes that I had set up for convenience, using my default email address (which is an Earthlink address I've had for many years). Somewhere within the last year, perhaps with an upgrade to the OS, I've found that outgoing mail from one of those mailboxes (but not from the general Inbox) defaults to my iCloud address. I have to manually choose a different address each time (which is hard to remember to do). This is new behavior, and very unwelcome. But I can see no way to change the default email address associated with each mailbox.
    How do I undo this unwanted connection?

    Sorry however I'm experiencing a similiar issue, in that I have 10 differing email accounts.
    However in the default email accounts, for some bizarre reason, only 4 show, being icloud, one of my older yahoo email accounts, my work email and then "From My PC".
    I run two other businesses of which I have a proper Google Mail Business Accountsfor each, but non of my google email address show in the default list.
    Is there any reason why?
    I actually want one of those to show.
    I have put my google mail to the top of the inbox, however it still doesn't show?
    I've also put the default calendar as my google business account but still the default account doesn't display.
    Any ideas?

    You do no specifically. It sounds like you are syncing a folder to the iPod. In that case:
    From a Folder on Mac OS X, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
    The iPod Photo Cache will be located in the folder you selected to sync with. 
    Thus, you have to change the location of the folder you sync with.

    The dialog in the RVS4000 for static routes does not allow to set the default route to point to a gateway in the LAN. Clearly this is either a bug or a feature of the web-interface and not a restriction of the box, which runs some kind of linux. So my question is there a way around this problem rather then defining routes to n-class A networks to cover the internet? Like a terminal access to set the default route?

    Thanks for your reply. I did already the first part and it seems that I presumed wrongly that the RVS4000 can be used as a layer 3 switch, instead it is only a 1-port gateway. Not that there is a technical limitation from the hardware or the OS of the box. It does layer 3 routing e.g. for its VLAN's. The only point to stop it from having the capability which I expect from something called router is to set its default route to the right gateway independant which port might be connected. The reason why I want a LAN port pointing to the gateway and do not use the WAN port without firewall is of course the VLAN capability of the LAN ports. The idea of the RVS is to bundle two nets, including the one where the gateway is on, and send it to a WAP4410N box, which nicely makes them wireless with different SSID's. Actually I have two ports connetced to the core network, if I am forced to have only the WAN port connected to the core, due to this artificial limitation, I would have to reconfigure a bit. Therefore I try to find an easier solution setting the route by "hand".

    While establishing BGP with ISP, there are three options for a client:
    > Default route (used in general) - client router forwards every request (for destination route) to ISP router.
    > Full route - ISP router's complete routing table would be received and maintained in client router.
    > Partial route - Only specific route would be received from ISP (Head office - Branch office scenario)
    ISP generate default route from their peering router that should have full routing table or knowledge of the router having it. A local ISP may generate default to their client and have one received from their upstream or global / larger ISP. Hope this helps.

    Is there any way to change the default IP addresses? My company allows split tunneling but only to a specific range of IP addresses. I would like to do this as my printer is not directly attached to my computer, but is a LAN printer. I don't want to continually vpn in / out just to print. Is there anyway to override or add another range of IP addresses other than the 10 and 192 nets?

    I'm sorry to tell you that that particular developers' decision in Preview's design as to where the window opens is not adjustable.

    See below:
    1) Can you elaborate on this a bit? Can you explain, specifically, what your trying to accomplish? I don't think you can get a default route into the OSPF RIB that is not external as the default is injected as a Type-5 LSA (e1 or e2). If your talking about getting a router to use the OSPF learned default over the default router learned via some other source (e.g. static, BGP, etc), then it depends on the source because of the Administrative Distance when comparing the two defaults ( the one default learned via OSPF has AD=110, and the other default is AD=X, where X is the Administrative Distance assigned to the protocol).
    2) Use the "default-information originate metric-type 2" command under "router ospf" -- Note this is the default
    3) Use the "default-information originate metric-type 1" command under "router ospf" -- Note, you don't need this in Totally Stubby Area.
    4) For NSSA area you have to use the "area nssa <area_num> default information-originate metric-type <type>" router subcommand. Note your NSSA should have a Type-7 LSA for the default route

  • Can I use Cisco Connect if I change the default router IP address?

    I am adding my E3000 into an existing network behind a SonicWall firewall.  I am using an address scheme of 192.168.168.xxx  When I change the router address to 192.168.168.10 and disable DHCP in Cisco Connect, I am left with only being able to access the router through the web interface.  This seems pretty lame; I've read other threads on Web vs. Cisco Connect.  Is there a quick fix that will allow Cisco Connect to still find the router after I've made (just) these two changes?

    Yes you still will be able to use the Cisco Connect software if you have changed the Routers IP address, But if you change the Router password of Wireless Security then you wont be able to use Cisco Connect software.

    My old Linksys router is showing it's age and needs replacing (2 of 4 ports no longer work and router requires frequent resets).   I want to use an Airport Extreme base station to replace it so that I can then use my Airport Express to extend my network.  Can I reset the default ip of the AEBS to match what I was using with the Linksys so that I won't have to change several static ip addresses in devices that don't play well with DHCP? 

    The AEBS is limited in its ability to use different IP address ranges for connected clients.
    The internal or local DHCP range can be set to utilize......
    10.0.x.2 to 200
    192.168.x.2 to 200
    172.16.x.2 to 200
    The AirPort Extreme itself would always have a local IP address that would look like....
    10.0.x.1
    192.168.x.1
    172.16.x.1
    In other words, the AEBS would always have a .1 desigator by default. This cannnot be changed.
