Native call with J2ME

I can write native calls in C and use them in my J2ME applications. But if the application shall be integrated to a J2ME device, like a mobilephone, can the native calls then work on this device? This means the DLL (the native function) must be placed on the mobilephone.

Even more interesting, how whould you deploy your native bits (e.g. some sort of library) when you cannot even be sure whether your target does support a file system? Apart from that, I doubt you will get a programming API for your mobile phone (well, Symbian OS (e.g. Nokia 7650) provides one I think).

  • Associating native calls with the calling object

    I have a problem where calls into a native library need to retain data for subsequent method calls. Imagine the following two native methods (just imagine that the signature is write for JNI methods):

      // Does something with the previously stored value
    }If I was to store the value in a global variable, then it would be shared across all instance of the java class wouldnt it? So if object 1 called initialise, then object 2 called initialise, whichever of the objects then called dosomething, it would be based on the latest call to initialise.
    How do I get around this sort of thing?
    I currently work in C, though I would be quite happy to switch to C++ if necessary.

    I haven't used JNI_OnUnload, but may see why it isn't called. The doc says it runs in the finalizer for the classloader that loaded the library. Assuming this is the system (not custom) classloader, then its finalizer will never run because it gets gc'd only at shutdown, and finalizers don't run at shutdown by default. You could try calling Runtime.runFinalizersOnExit, but it's deprecated and sounds unsafe.
    So my next idea would be to add a shutdown hook (Runtime.addShutdownHook) the first time one of your objects is constructed. The hook would call a native method to do the cleanup. Or since a shutdown hook is a Thread subclass, just make your overridden run() be the native cleanup function.
    Of course this now requires keeping a native-side data structure to track the native objects, though I'd still vote for storing each native peer's pointer in a Java long field for fast dereference, and make this native data structure be a simple array or list (not map) for usage only by the cleanup logic.
    Another idea is to clean up in a function called by the OS or C++ runtime when your library is unloaded, independent of Java. This could be DllMain (for Windows) or a C++ global object destructor.

  • Urgent - How to call native methods from J2ME

    Hi,
    I have to do some very heavy processing work, so I have my code written in C. And now I want these native functions to be called from a J2ME application. I had thought this was not possible and J2ME did not support something like JNI as J2SE did.
    However, when contacted with Sun Technical Support we were advised to use KNI in J2ME. I went through the KNI documentation and did not find any example to do so.
    On reading about it I understood that it cannot be implemented by developers as the native functions if any using KNI should be implemented while compiling the KVM.
    I would like to know whether my understanding is correct, or is it possible to call native functions from J2ME. Say I would like to have my native functions called from J2ME and run it on my Nokia N73 or other such phones.
    Experts please clear this.

    You are right in your assumptions regarding KNI. Here is some related thread that might also help.     You can't, from the native BB operating system.
    There could be a third party application out there to do this, I am not aware of it.

  • Stop native call from java

    I know there are topics related to timeout, stop or kill native call but it seems there is no good answer for me.
    I have a java class as the caller to call a native C function with double arrays as input. The C function perform some kind of computation using 3rd party FORTRAN functions. If we terminate the java, how to terminate/stop/or exit the C function?

    }Every call of polyFit .polyFit() may take less than 1 millisecond to several second. In case the time exceeds a threadhold, i.e. 10 second, we want to stop the thread. However, I can't find the way to stop or exit the C function.
    Any ideas are highly appreciated.

    This is C code, and since there is no portable way to interrupt C code, there's nothing that can be done. In Unix a SIGINT can do the trick, but only by killing the whole address space. There are some thread APIs that attempt to do this, but they are either very unsafe or require cooperation from the code which is being interrupted.
    Your best bet is to code your CPU-intensive code to check a global (or thread-specific) flag for a requested interrupt, and cleanly exit back to the JNI wrapper, returning a flag value to acknowledge the interruption. A wrapper routine around the native method can then throw a Java exception, or block and retry, or whatever you want it to do.
    Note that Thread.stop is deprecated. There is no earthly way to cleanly interrupt either Java or C code, unless it cooperates with the interrupter.

  • Native B4 with Logic Pro question

    Hi !
    I'm using Native B4 with an M-Audio Keystation 88es.
    My question is... is there any way I can channel a ride cymbal to play along with the B4 in the lower keyboard split? (In other words I have one keyboard. I would be walking lower manual bass in my left hand, but a ride would be playing along with it, similar to a bass/ride split on a piano.)
    Can someone explain this step by step or refer me to the page in the manual?

    The environment is a playpen for this kind of stuff - it's MIDI processing facilities beat anything else out there.
    In the environment, create a new instrument - call it "Split". Assign it to the current track in the arrange page by clicking on it with the "MIDI Thru" tool (or just select it on an arrange track in the usual way).
    This instrument is the instrument that we play. Now, create two new instruments (called "left" and "right"), and cable the "Split" instrument to the "left" one. As second output triangle will appear on "Split", so cable the second output to the "right" instrument. This way, the notes you play get sent to both of these two new instruments.
    "Left" is going to be our left keyboard split. Adjust the low note and high note values to cover the keyboard range you want the organ to cover.
    Similarly, adjust the note range of "Right" so it's lowest note starts at the highest note set on "Left".
    Lastly, cable the output of "Left" to the audio instrument holding your organ, and the output of "Right" to your drum thing. You can adjust the transpose values on either of "Left" and "Right" to play the desired range.
    You've just used the environment to set up a simple keyboard split across two virtual instruments.
    In the same way, you can set up multi-keyboard splits, layers with crossfading, velocity splits and many other cool stuff across multiple instruments.

  • BE6000 Native Call Queuing Design Constraints?

    We see the doc wiki has not been updated with any UCM 9.0 native call queuing design constraints.  We would assume that the call queuing at a min would need to meet the MoH design constraint of 50 sessions, since you figure there is a high probability that one call will be queued in each of 50 queues with MoH playing with each.

    Is there any other performance impact we should consider or can we ask the doc wiki be updated with design constraints around call queuing?
    Can the BU clarify is that is 50 simultanous MoH streams per cluster, or 50 per server?  We can eliminate the load by going to multicast and IOS distributed MoH for remote sites, but something tells me there probably is a max queued call ceiling we need to consider for this platform.

    At the risk of getting caught up in the pass-by-reference/pass-by-value debate :), simple values (ints chars etc). are passed as values, and modifying them on the C++ side of the procedure call will not modify the values on th java side.
    Possible solutions are:
    1)pass an array of (say) ints. Then, modifying individual values should modify the java-side values (much in the way that the Stream.read(byte[]) functions do.
    2)format up a strin g with your return values, return the string and parse it on the java side.
    3)have fields in the java side that are accessed and modified by your native call.
    4)pass an object with some fields in it. Have the C++ access and modify the object's fields.

  • How to maintain reference across native calls?

    I'm using JNI to interface with an underlying C++ communications library. I am having trouble keeping my connection valid across native calls.
    For example, in one method I connect and save the connection in a global variable, then return. After I connect I would like to call a "send message" method, but when I do I doesn't recognize the saved connection.
    My question is do saved references persist across JNI calls when using the same object, or will all global vars be new ones? If not, does anyone know a way to get around this?

    All JNI references that you create (through calls to NewObject, GetObjectArrayElement, GetObjectField, ...) or that are passed to your native code as parameters are local. That means that they are only valid for the duration of that native call and only on the thread from which that native call was invoked.
    You can create global references from local references using NewGlobalRef. A global reference is valid across all threads and does not have a limited lifetime. You must make sure to release your global references once you are done using them by calling DeleteGlobalRef.

    i but i am getting nullpointerexcepti while loading the string in to my Java String .

    I am trying to make telephony calls using J2ME.Is there any standard API that I can use for telephony calls which is not Vendor-specific?
    At the moment, I am trying with platform calls like

    If so can u tell me which API can be used for this and can u explain me with sample code?Please help me with any online resources regardin this.

    I think you wanted to say platformRequest instead of object.platform. This is the only way to make a call from the J2ME application as far as I know. Some OS may offer additional methods for doing this, but you would have to check the docs for this.

    from what I understand from the first link, SAP is probably trying to say that it is user friendly because not everyone needs to be concerned regarding the actual JCo calls to the SAP backend. Rather they can simply work with the generated proxies as if they were actually working with the SAP Tables. The mapping, JCo calls and data transfer is taken care of by the Enterprise Connector.
    For instance, you can generate proxies of the BAPIs on your side and let 10 users work with the structures and tables and when it is deployed, the JCo calls are automatically taken care of (from the SLD).
    The figure in the second link just shows the runtime to illustrate that the native calls are hidden (again probably the same point I made before).
    I am not sure, just my interpretation

  • Unable to answer calls with 3.0 OS

    I posted this problem before with the 2.1 firmware here:

    It appears to be even worse with 3.0, for me anyway. I just upgraded to 3.0 and out of my first 5 calls with it I had a hard time answering 4 of them. One of them was missed altogether. The slider just refused to slide. What can I say. I was so hopeful this would be fixed. Oh well.
    BTW, my "sometimes successful workaround" (change the ringer switch position) didn't seem to help.

    I have had this same problem. I had back on version 2, but thought it might be related to 3G phone being jailbroken. New 3GS does the same thing. Appears to happen mostly when the ringer is off. Sometimes the slider will move but everything stops with that, phone will not "pick up".
    I also have used the same "sometimes workaround" flipping the ringer switch back and forth.

    I need to make wsdl web service call in my weblogic app server. The web service is provided by a 3rd party vendor. I keep getting error
    Cannot complete the certificate chain: No trusted cert found
    Certificate chain received from ws-eq.demo.xxx.com - xx.xxx.xxx.156 was not trusted causing SSL handshake failure
    Validation error = 16
    From the SSL debug log, I can see 3 verisign hierarchy certs are correctly loaded (see 3 lines in the log message starting with “adding as trusted cert”). But somehow after first handshake, I got error “Cannot complete the certificate chain: No trusted cert found”.
    Here is how I load trustStore and keyStore in my java program:

    Because my program is a weblogic app server, when I start the program, I have java command line options set as:

    In addition, we have working logic to use some other wsdl web services from the same vendor on the same SOAP server. In the working web service call flows, we use clientgen to create client stub, and use SSLContext and WLSSLAdapter to load trustStore and keyStore, and then bind the SSLContext and WLSSLAdapter objects to the webSerive client object and make the webservie call. For the new wsdl file, I am told to use wsimport to create client stub. In the client code created, I don’t see any way that I can bind SSLContext and WLSSLAdapter objects to the client object, so I have to load certs by settting system pramaters. Here I attached the the wsdl file.
    I have read many articles. It seems as long as I can install the verisign certs correctly to web logic server, I should have fixed the problem. Now the questions are:
    1.     Do I create “cacerts” the correct order with right keeltool options?
    2.     Since command line option “-Dweblogic.security.SSL.trustedCAKeyStore” is used for web server jks certificate, will that cause any problem for me?
    3.     Is it possible to use wsimport to generate client stub that I can bind SSLContext and WLSSLAdapter objects to it?
    4.     Do I need to put the “cacerts” to some specific weblogic directory?

    I received a workaround by an internal message.
    The how to guide is :
    -Download the wsdl file (with bindings, not the one from ESR)
    -Correct it in order that the schema corresponds to the answer (remove minOccurs or other things like this)
    -Deploy the wsdl file on you a server (java web project for exemple). you can deploy on your local
    -Create a new logicial destination that point to the wsdl file modified
    -Change the metadata destination in your web dynpro project for the corresponding model and keep the execution desitnation as before.
    Then the received data is check by the metadata logical destination but the data is retrieved from the correct server.
