Navigation with table

Question

I had used iterator opreation for pagination in 11g oracle.
where i had used next , first , previuos button to set first attribute with iterator to get to next page.
Please let me know that collection model which holds my list from query in vo object is set at once OR on setting the first attribute of iterator it is queried for next range.
If it is queried at once than how about data wihich is in lakhs.. Will mycollection will get down OR i am suppose to change the collection model with the next query.
Please let me know....

I am confuse with that in view query select * from table ABC
where the record is about 1000
I set iterator operation row attriabute as 100
using iterator operator i am able to see first range 100 record
now where is now 900 record currently.
OR
By setting next range in iterator , the next 100 records comes from database
I hope you get it what i want?....ist that i get 1000 record at once or not
