Navigator/Portfolio SDK

I am wanting to create a custom layout for a PDF portfolio, which is turning out much more difficult than I'd hope.
I'm running CS6 on Mountain Lion OSX and the Navigator Project wizard option is unavailable. I'm unsure where exactly i'm supposed to store the SDK, as I followed the instructional page but the directories were incorrect or non-existant.
There is no plugins folder listed under Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6, so I created one, which didn't do anything.
There is a plugins folder in eclipse, which still didn't do anything.
I went into the package contents of the app and created a plugins folder, which, again, did nothing.
If I open Fb and command+n, there is no Adobe Navigator folder or Navigator wizards to select.
I installed the Flex SDK as well, but i'm not sure if it worked.
This is the first time i've ever used flashbuilder, so i'm completely new to say the least, though I take lightly detailed instruction fairly well.
I'm slightly familiar with Flash if that helps. I took a full semester class about a year ago and can probably recall a good bit of I dwindle in it.

as per Joel's recommendation, used 4.5 instead - that worked just fine

  • PDF Portfolio SDK setup - Navigator project wizard in Flex Builder 4.6 does not show

    Hello, Experts
    I am trying to build PDF Custom Navigator using Adobe PDF Portfolio SDK; however, for some reason, when performing step 3 of installation, Navigator project wizard in Flex Builder  (  4.6 ) would not show;
The plugins have been extracted to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\eclipse\plugins
The NavigatorSupport folder has been extracted to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\eclipse and ( just in case ) to
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\
any advice would be greatly appreciated

  • Can't install portfolio sdk in adobe flash builder 4.7

    Hi all,
as a CC member I installed acrobat XI Pro, Adobe Flash Builder 4.7.
I would like to create a new Portfolio layout but it seems impossible to me.
I already followed the instruction provided by adobe: https://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/PDFNAV/Installing+Acrobat+Portfolios+SDK but nothing happens.
This page seems outdated. How can you work this way?
Here is what I have done (windows 7 64bit):
    I copied the "AcroFlashDebug.api" file in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\plug_ins"
I copied the "Put contents in FB plugins dir" content  in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)"
I also copied the "Put contents in FB plugins dir" content in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)\eclipse"
I copied the "Put contents in FB plugins dir" content in  "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)\plugins" (please note I created the "plugins" directory manually)
I also copied the "Put contents in FB plugins dir" content in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)\eclipse\plugins"
    but now?
I started FB 4.7 but there no mention about navigator projects or portfolio.
    What I'm missing here?
Is there an updated step-by-step tutorial?
    TIA for any help.
    tony

The question of whether plug-ins are 64-bit or 32-bit is a vital one, and has been a pain for every app I've seen which has gone 64-bit. Maybe you'll need to install the 32-bit Flash Builder, but that's just a wild guess. This part of the issue seems specific to Flash Builder, so I recommend you try that forum.

  • Instal Adobe Portfolio SDK

    Hello,
I would like to create some portfolios for Acrobat XI, however I don't understand the following:
    'Installing the Portfolio SDK
Before you can begin developing your Navigator, install the Acrobat Portfolios SDK, install the acroFlashDebug.api plugin into Acrobat, and install the Navigator plug-ins for Flash Builder. The Acrobat Portfolio SDK was developed based on Flash Builder 4.01 and the Flex 4.1 SDK. All instructions in the Acrobat Portfolio SDK are based on Flash Builder 4.01. I am using Flash Builder 4.5 and other than a  few very minor issues, everything works as expected but because the directory structure of Flash Builder 4.5 is slightly different from Flash Builder 4.01, installation is slightly different.'
A more detailed installation guide would be appreciated. I've already downloaded the sdk zip file. As to the other components I have no idea.  Anyway, I don't know how to instal anything. Shame on me. Much obliged if you can help.
    Best regards,
    Rodrigo.

PDF Portfolios have an essential failing. In order to display the fancy preview that makes them appealing, the require Flash Player. If you have Acrobat 9 or X, or Reader 9 or X for Macintosh or Windows, the Flash Player is embedded, and they usually view the way expected.
However, there are many situations where the PDF Portfolio will not display correctly: (1) You have an older version of Acrobat or Reader; (2) You have Acrobat X or Reader X installed and Flash Player is not installed on your computer (no longer is there an built-in Flash player); or (3) you're viewing the PDF Portfolio on an iPad or iPhone because iOS devices have never supported Flash Player.
In some of these situations, you may see a message that you saw: "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later." But that is a very misleading message.
In Adobe Reader for iOS just displays the PDFs that included in the PDF Portfolio.
I believe that in the future PDF Portfolios will probably fade away for those reasons.

I've installed Acrobat portfolio SDK into Flash Builder and I have followed the documentation of Building a Navigator from http://learning.adobe.com

Ok, finally got this working.  Many hidden gotchas.
    1.  You have to make a Trust File for your custom panel.  This is actually in the SDK, around page 53, so my bad -- but the problem is that there is no feedback from the Adobe application if you don't have this.  The application just hangs.  It should produce an error message "can't find trust file, etc.".  This should not be that hard to implement.
    2.  The latest Flex SDK does not seem to work in Bridge CC or other similar applications.  You have to use Flex SDK 3.x, apparently, and this is NOT in the documentation.  Not only should you set the default SDK in Flex Builder to 3.x (I'm using 3.6) but you have to edit the build.properties file to make sure it's pointing to the correct folder, eg: C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)/sdks/3.6.0.  Fortunately Flash Builder 4.7 comes with 3.6 installed.  If you have an older version, it's likely to be completely different.

  • Is there a way to tell if a pdf is a portfolio without the Portfolio SDK installed?

I am developing a plugin that I do not want active when the document is a Portfolio. Is there a way to determine if a pdf is a Portfolio using only the Adobe Acrobat SDK?
    Thanks,

The Portfolio SDK is for BUILDING Portfolios – it doesn’t tell you anything about whether one is (or is not) a Portfolio.
I believe there is a PDDocIsCollection() API that will answer this question.

Ok, there is no direct automation of that feature. But that feature is a simpler version of Save as...optimized PDF.
Please explain "automation process". You earlier suggested that you wanted it to affect "any PDF copied to the system". I don't see how that can work, but perhaps you have an idea of how you see it working.
You can apply the PDF optimizer process to an entire folder without the use of any programming, using actions.

  • PDF Portfolio Navigator with horizontal tab layout

    Hello, Experts
             I am trying to create a PDF Portfolios with horizontal tab layout structure;
several .NET libraries allowed me to create PDF files with thumbnail layout, but, in order to populate a horizontal tab
layout, it seems, I would need to create a custom PDF navigator and import it into PDF Portfolio prior to inserting PDF file components ?
            preinstalled navigators look great, but I just need a simple horizontal tab view, where each tab only contains file's name and nothing else;
buy clicking on each tab - corresponding file would be activated in the viewer
is there any library of predesigned navigators that I can use ?
is there any way to extract navigator from one and import it into another PDF portfolio ?
would I need to use Flash or can this be done via .NET ?

  • Portfolio Navigator Developers for Acrobat X

I just purchased Acrobat X and would like to have a custom portfolio navigator developed. Can someone recommend some developers who are good at this? What is a reasonable price to pay for a custom navigator?

You may want to consider a "Job Offered" post to the Job Board forum at Adobe's Acrobat User Community.
    http://acrobatusers.com/forum/job-board
The "how to" is described at: http://acrobatusers.com/forum/job-board
n.b., The Adobe Acrobat Portfolio SDK has only recently been available at Adobe Labs so it likely that those who have the Flex/Flash skills may still  be involved with "in study" activities.
fwiw to any readers - Acrobat X SDK testers are being solicited.

  • How to create PDF Portfolio ?

    Hi,
I am developing a plugin for Acrobat X. My plugin have a menu item to create PDF Portfolios.I searched the SDK but was not able to find any API or sample to create a portfolio.
The SDK mentioned that the Navigator API have been removed from Acrobat X SDK.
I came across Acorbat Protfolio SDK which requires to install a package in Flash builder and a plugin in Acrobat X  and also, the development of the navigator is done in Flash which is then imported in Acrobat.
I need help to create portfolio using Acrobat Portfolio SDK. Can anyone plaease help me?
Can anyone also, explain how will I import the NAV file in Acrobat and how will I execute this file on click of a menu item?
    Thanks

    Hi Leonard,
    Thanks for the reply.
I searched the SDK and found javascript have collection object for portfolio. I looked into the SDK for adding files in portfolio but couldn't find any information. I searched through net also, and came across a script which combines files from one or more portfolio into a single portfolio.
Is there any way to add files into the porfolio? If yes can you please giude me to achieve this?
What I want to do is that on clicking menu item of my plugin, open a file browser to let user choose files. And once the user has selected the files, javascript will combine/add these files into a portfolio. Is this achievable ?
    Thanks

  • Differences between V9pro & V10pro in the Portfolio file preview

We have lost fuctionality on the file/page preview in X pro portfolios.  Here is what we have encountered; pdf's that have buttons and or sticky notes are no longer working when reviewed within an X pro created portfolio, it necessary to actually open the pdf.  This was not necessary in a version 9 portfolio.
If anyone has a work around,
    we would be thankful,

    Hi;
The "default" (I say default because there are two types of Preview available in Acrobat X) preview in AX when PDF/image/Office file attachments are double clicked is a Flash based Preview that integrates very nicely with the Navigator (Layout) but it does have less functionality.  This is indeed very different from the preview in Acrobat 9, however the same Preview available in V9 is still in V10.
If you go to "View -> Portfolio -> Preview File" when the attachment (PDF) is selected you will get the A9 (V9) style Preview which is fully functional for PDFs as it was in Acrobat 9.
    I hope this is helpful.
    Thanks,
    Josh
PS - with the Acrobat Portfolio SDK a developer could create a customized Layout for Acrobat X that used the Acrobat 9 style Preview for the file types listed above.  This could be a solution depending on the scale of the issue and your/ones needs
