Nearest search base on Zip Code

Hey All,
I need some help for my following requirements -
-> In my web base product , client wants to add near search location base on zip code - that means if user enter zip code then user will receive nearest location within 5 or 10 mile.
Like if we open subway or In-N-Out site for find out nearest store location
Please let me know - How Can I do this task
thanks
amit

I've never done such a project before. However, here are some ideas:
* You need a list of every zip code in the country and its latitude and longitude (for the geographic center of each zip code).
Search google for something like this:
zip code latitude longitude
Ideally, you should be able to find a free listing. If not, you should be able to purchase one cheaply.
* Next, you need to create a list of stores, thier addresses, and their latitude and longitude.
* Next, write a program that determines the distance between the list of zip code latitudes/longitudes and the latitutude/longitude of the store in question. From that list of distances, search for and get the ones within x miles of the store.
Alternatively, you might want to see if there are any pre-existing services to do the above functionality for a small amount of money. I imagine mapquest might have such a service.

  • Segmentation on basis of Zip code

    Hi,
i am trying to create segmentation using Zip code. iam creating a Z infoset by joining tables using base table BUT000 and field Post_code1 from table ADRC . infoset is created sucessfully but when i create profile & target group .it shows no bp with any filter.
Is this the only way to create segmentation on basis of Zip code.
any inputs will be help full.
    Regards
    Rajiv sharma

    Hi Rajiv,
The ZIP code ( technical field:- POST_CODE1, Table:- ADDR2_DATA ) is basically a field of data type CHAR of size 10.
So in segmentation when you try to create a filter with Equal to say zip code 12345 it basically tries to compare the integer value 12345 with a character 12345 and thus this does not give exact result.
Did u try creating filer with "Contains Pattern". and see if it works.

  • Access database search by zip code

We have a database with stores in it. I need to be able to
query the database based on zip code and bring up 10 random records
within the specified zip code. Is there a product that already does
this or a good starting point for me? I am using ASP/VBScript. I
actually am able to query the database by zip code now but have no
idea how to pull up random records from the results. I don't want
the same 10 records always showing up.

    Try this:

  • Having a problem using Workflow to update a field based on ZIP code

I created a Workflow to update a Yes/No picklist called eligibility based on a Text (Short) field called Applicant ZIP code.
It's set to update on the Opportunity page:
    Before modified record saved
    And the value function is:
    IIf(InStr("60601_60602",[<stApplicant_Zip_Code_ITAG>|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/]+)>0,"Yes","No")+
That was a guess of how to try it while relying on my limited MS SQL & Access knowledge.
It does work correctly using what I did. The problem I have is that I actually need to choose from over 600 ZIP codes. The function window only allows for 256 characters. (And I suspect my way is fairly inelegant for search a multi-thousand character string.)
    Any suggestions?

  • Pass URL parameter for zip code

In this fake url I want to pass the zip code value of the confirmed BP into "zipcode"
    https://acme.com/locator.jsp?zip=zipcode
from the other post I have read the parameter name would be "zipcode" and thru the transaction launcher I am able to assign parameter value =
    //selectedClmBpLinkRelationship/BpRelLinkBusinessPartner/BuilStandardAddressRel/POSTL_COD1
The transaction launcher is opening the launcher but not passing the value into the field. The window opens but the field is not filled with the zip code.
If I open a new ie browser and put in url
    https://acme.com/locator.jsp?zip=60001
the url is reached and 60001 is filling the zip code field.
Is there an easy way to debug and see if any value is getting passed?
Am I conceptually on base for what I am trying to do?

    Hi Shwetha,
That got me pointed in the right direction where we could get it to work.
For others, these were some other points we used to get it to work.
    1. in the IMG where the url is defined don't add the ZIP parameter here so our IMG entry =  https://acme.com/locator.jsp?
when the page launched correctly the parameters showed https://acme.com/locator.jsp?&zipcode=60001
    2. for zip code parameter value we used //currentCustomer/BuilStandardAddressRel/POSTL_COD1  >> this goes in the transaction launcher with parameter zipcode and is then visible in the IMG entry "copy/delete launch transactions"

  • Zip Code Locator / Store Locator

    Guys,
I want to write a simple store-locator functionality in my website (Using a Mysql db with JSP-java etc.,)
I am not sure of the tools I need and how to approach the problem (once I get a Map of all the zip codes)... Please throw in some ideas that can help me on this...
    Thanks a ton!

The earth is ~ 40,000 km equatorial circumference
    Mapped as rectangular projection ignoring poles is 40,000 km x 16,000 km = 640,000,000 1km x 1km cells
    so 1 byte/km2 = 640 MB
    or 1 word/(250m x 250m) = 4*4*4*640MB = 40GB
So a reasonable brute force method for the planet (and a few big memory servers or a not very big fast disk) would work in most cases.
Obviously, if you're only interested in one part of the globe you scale down.
The USA is something like 10,000 km square so a 60 520GB disk would give you a 1/sqrt(500E9/4/(10E6m^2)) = 28m resolution lookup at < 10ms time per request.
A second lookup of the id returned from the big bitmap using the nearest neighbour approach for a few points would take you further, if required.
How much is your time worth to develop an efficient solution, if throwing 60 of hardware at it would be good enough?
Short of buying an awful lot of memory, any solution will hit the disk at least once (though you may be able to optimise away seeking, it's a query and won't be streaming whatever you do), so the overall time isn't likely to get much better without a lot of effort.
You can always trade off between the bitmap/localised query for space and speed.

  • Import a Zip Code Field Into Numbers

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've done a couple of searches and can't find the answer.
I often need to import a list of addresses into a spreadsheet for cleaning up. In Excel, when I do this, I "open" a text file and get the "import wizard." I can then format the zip code field as a text field and retain any leading zeros (e.g., 00678 is not converted to the number 678).
How can I do this in Numbers?

It's certainly not the reason explaining that you can't open the Numbers generated csv files.
Numbers put a delimiter between values so their length is meaningless.
The problem may be the value of the delimiter.
As I wrote MANY times, if the decimal separator used by the running operating system is period, Numbers use comma as values delimiter.
If the decimal separator is comma, Numbers use the semi-colon as values separator.

  • Leading Zeros in Zip Code

I frequently export address information from a database to a tab-delimited text file and then import it into Numbers. However, some zip codes have leading zeros (i.e., "00644"). When I import this file into Numbers the zip codes with leading zeros lose their zeros (i.e., the field looks like ... "644").
If I format the field after the import as "Text," it doesn't resolve the problem.
How do I retain these zeros?

The given soluce may be "not realistic" but it is used since 1990 by AppleWorks's users.
But a Numbers's user may refuse to apply the given workarounds and wait for enhancements.
For some of them he will have to wait until iWork'09, for others for iWork'10 …
I think that helpers are here to give workarounds for today, not to give false hopes.
Here is an excerpt of Apple Human Interface Guidelines
    +Apply the 80 Percent Solution+
+During the design process, if you discover problems with your product design, you might consider applying the 80 percent solution‚ that is, designing your software to meet the needs of at least 80 percent of your users. This type of design typically favors simpler, more elegant approaches to problems.+
+If you try to design for the 20 percent of your target audience who are power users, your design may not be usable by the other 80 percent of users. Even though that smaller group of power users is likely to have good ideas for features, the majority of your user base may not think in the same way. Involving a broad range of users in your design process can help you find the 80 percent solution.+

  • How can I keep the leading zero in zip codes from disappearing in Numbers spreadsheet?

I have a spreadsheet with addresses, and the leading 0 of the zip codes (thanks New Jersey) keeps disappearing... How do I correct this?

    Penny,
It's easy for 5-digit ZIP codes to use the Number System format. Set to Base 10 and 5 places. Part of the goodness of this approach is that if you have already lost the zeros to the Automatic Format, this will reconstitute them.
ZIP 5 plus 4 codes are not a problem because the dash in the middle causes a default to Text.

  • Please help, finding all zip codes within a given radius.

I have a table which contains zip, city, state, latdec, longdec, latrad, longrad.
From search screen, user want's to find all zip code's, within
10 mile radius of his zip code.
I came up with following sql but it is not correct:
First, find his latdec, longdec from his zipcode.
Then add radius to those values and do select as follows:
    select zip,
    latdec, longdec,
    city, state, latrad, longrad
    from zip_coord
    where latdec >= (latdec - 10)
    and latdec <= (latdec + 10)
    and longdec >= (longdec - 10)and longdec <= (longdec + 10).

    Thanks in advance

I am not sure I understand the gerography concept, but I think the query should be like this:
select zip, latdec, longdec, city, state, latrad, longrad
    from zip_coord
where latdec between( select latdec from zip_record where zip='userinput', select latdec+10 from zip_record where zip='userinput')
and longdec between( select longdec from zip_record where zip='userinput', select longdec+10 from zip_record where zip='userinput')
and latrad between( select latrad from zip_record where zip='userinput', select latrad+10 from zip_record where zip='userinput')
and longrad between( select longrad from zip_record where zip='userinput', select longrad+10 from zip_record where zip='userinput')
    Hope, it can help.

Also, for what it's worth, "Open Directory" in the Server.app has no settings within it. Nor will it stay "on." I'm not using OD per se, and am happy to leave it off, but it's possible the errors above are preventing it from running.
Thanks for any other solutions. —michael

  • Zip Code Lookup

    Hi guys,
Ok, I've had a project dumped on me that is ridiculously
complicated given my level of ability. I've explained to them that
I am NOT the guy for this. They're in a real jam though, so while
they're trying to find someone else I told them I'd see what I can
    do.
Basically, it's a political action page. You watch a short
flash video, then click a button to send email to the candidates
running to represent you. It's been built (kind of) using PHP by
someone else, but has so many bugs (and I don't know anything about
PHP) that I think my only hope is to try and re-write the whole
thing in Coldfusion (which I know the basics of).
Thankfully the mySQL database is already done and working. I
just need to build the pages. The real sticking point: on the "tell
a candidate" page, they want a user to fill out their street
address, click a button, and have the application automatically
find their full zipcode and then display a page listing the
candidates running to represent that district (this is limited to
    one state, thank god).
I can handle the database-driven stuff to return email links
for their candidates (I think)... but how can I use Coldfusion to
find a person's full zipcode based on their street address?
Thanks for ANY ideas... the more dumbed-down the better!
    Joe

It's no big deal, StearmanDriver. You already have a good
    solution. Yahoo!
All you have to do is
    get a
Yahoo App ID. You can then use it with, for example, the cfhttp
tag to get the zip code. The service is free, too.
Suppose your Yahoo App ID is

(This is a fake ID I've just created to illustrate the process. But
it is similar to the one Yahoo will send you.) Suppose also that
you wished to know the zip code of the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in
    Commercial Street, Portland, Maine.
The result, cfhttp.FileContent, is a short XML document.
However, it gives you more bang for your buck
(see actual result below). It includes, besides the zip, the
latitude and longitude of the place.
To get the zip code, simply parse the XML. The complete code
is something like the one below.
    actual result, cfhttp.fileContent:
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <ResultSet xmlns:xsi="
    http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xmlns="urn:yahoo:maps" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:yahoo:maps
    http://api.local.yahoo.com/MapsService/V1/GeocodeResponse.xsd">
    <Result precision="address">
    <Latitude>43.657646</Latitude>
    <Longitude>-70.250313</Longitude>
    <Address>65 Commercial St</Address>
    <City>Portland</City>
    <State>ME</State>
    <Zip>04101-4703</Zip>
    <Country>US</Country>
    </Result>
    </ResultSet>

    Hello Nicol,
By ALL_SOURCE it can not be solved, ALL_SOURCE from database dictionary table you can get the total code text if you know the table name but not all those following information :
    1. Total No of lines of the code
    2. No of DML statements (select, update, insert, delete) used like how many SELECT, How many UPDATE etc used in it.
    3. No of base apps tables referenced like How many tables starting with "CMF_" is present.
    4. No of procedure calls like how many procedures starting with "PROC_" used.
If you can tell me how you will get me all those stuffs It will be great.

  • Zip code progressive list selection

Here in Australia there are some 14k towns with zip/post codes. I want to start typing in a town name and when one gets close then use up/down keys to select the town, state and zip code. I do not want to type in the whole of a long name eg Melbourne before getting to East.
While I did discover a list filter routine written in java that does allow for the progressive selection of names, this downloads the complete list which in my case would be over 1M of data. One wishes to minimize this, quite apart from the wait time which would impact response to user time.
What processes, hooks and code can one use with XE - Apex 2.1 for this. Some sample code would be welcome.
    Thanks in advance
    Bob

    Hello Bob,
You should search this forum for 'autocomplete', but the following can be a good starting point - AJAX, Javascript or just good coding? LOV that filters as you type?? .
    Regards,
    Arie.
