Neat way to make stage fade to black?

I am currently trying to find some neat way to make everything on the stage fade to black (like the sun was going down). I know i can just create a stage sized black box with an alpha value of 1 and do something like box.alpha += 1/10;. I was just wondering if there is a cleaner way to do this preferably only using actionscript. I appreciate any sort of respond

Can you tell me why this does not work?
darkness = new mc_dark();
addChild(darkness);
var fade:Tween = new Tween(darkness,"alpha",None.easeNone,0,1,120,true);
It seems to be working all right but the movieclip mc_dark never gets an alpha value of 1, more like 0.5.

  • Scrolling makes screen fade to black

Hi all - ever since I upgraded to Leopard, I'm having a problem with Aperture where my whole library becomes black when I scroll through thumbnails. If I stop scrolling, eventually the pictures reappear. This makes it really hard to use Aperture since I can't really see what I'm doing. It happens fairly consistently, but isn't 100% reproducible. Any ideas?

Your screen can be set to fade to black after a specific amount of time to conserve battery life. You decide for how long you want it to stay on, anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes. This will only affect the time between activity on your screen, so if you're swiping and pressing the screen quite a bit it won't go out until you stop accessing the screen then it'll start the countdown to the time you set.
To adjust it, swipe down while on your homescreen and select Settings>Display>Screen Timeout.
    I hope that helps you.

  • Can I get movie to fade to black?

I inserted a Youtube video into my project and used the slider in Widget, Interaction to stop it about midway through, the first part being all that I wanted to show. But then when I preview it, it simply stops abruptly and retains the last screen image. Is there a way to make it fade to black, other than going back and redoing it in iMovie?
    Thanks.

  • Finder built-in slideshow blinks after fade-to-black before starting

When I start a slideshow from Finder, the screen fades to black smoothly, but then when it's black, it blinks back to normal view for few millisecs before starting the slideshow. This makes the fade-to-black totally non-effective.
The effect is the same when changing resolution (the screen blinks on for a while). Anyone else has this?
It's not visually nice at all. How to get rid of it?

This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

Make sure the headphones are plugged ALL the way in, meaning the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Nano and no silver from the headphone's plug can still be seen.

  • Easy way to "fade to black" ?

What is the easy or best way to fade out at the end of a clip/scene? Doesn't seem to be that option in the edit drop down list.

Use the Fade Through Black Transition in the Transitions pane.
Put it between two clips to Fade through black. Put it at the beginning or end of your movie to fade in or fade out.

  • Stopping the Fade to Black on Ken Burns Slide Show?

I am trying to make a slideshow using the Ken Burns template. I want to be able to make a loop-able file (.mov or other), so I can make a looping DVD. At the end of my sideshow, there is a one second fade to black - Is there any way to stop that fade out or is there another way to do this effect without the fade out?
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forum
Select the final slide and change the transition to "none" in the transition drop down menu

  • Fade to black at the end

    Hi all
I've started to use Motion 5 for a few weeks now but I'm kinda stuck on how to fade to black on a project. Ok it's a
Motion 5 project (built in the program) called "Atmospheric - lower third" in the "Composition" section and I want to do a
5 sec fade to black. I added about 5 sec to the 20 sec project making it 25 sec and I don't find a fading FX in the program.
There IS a fade in and fade out together but I just want a fad out and how can I make it work?? I know I still need allot of
practice with this program and I intend to get Lynda video tutorials soon but I need to to this now for next week and I have
no idea what to do to make a good fade out. If it can't be done with this program can I export it to final cut X and do a fade
there? Any help would be very welcomed!!!!
    THANKS!!!
    Serge

The easiest thing to do is add a Color Solid:
Press the Generators button at the bottom right of the canvas and select Generators > Color Solid. This gives you a specialized shape that automatically fills the canvas with color. Set the Color (in the inspector) to Black.
Select the Properties tab and in the Blending section, set the Opacity to 0%
Right click on the word "Opacity" and from the popup menu, select Parameter Behaviors > Ramp
In the Behaviors inspector > Ramp, set the Start Value to 0% and the End Value to 100%
Move the playhead in the mini Timeline to the place where you want the "fade out" to start.
The Motion 5 Help window tends to be a little slow - and too in the way for me, so I have an online copy bookmarked for viewing in my browser here:
    http://help.apple.com/motion/mac/5.0/en/motion/usermanual/
unfortunately, this version is not searchable, so I also keep the Motion 4 user manual bookmarked here:
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/motion/usermanual/index.html
This version IS searchable. Keep in mind that Motion 4 and Motion 5 do not "look" the same. However, everything in the Motion 4 documentation (other than placement of icons, etc.) is concurrent with how Motion 5 works (Motion 5 has some new concepts that won't exist in the M4 documentation like Rigs and specialized drop zones that represent media content *in* FCPX.)
If you're okay with dealing with the appearance differences between Motion 5 and earlier versions, here is a good source for basic "practice" exercises (skip the ones on "Round-Tripping" -- that no longer applies to M5/FCPX): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB7982C0260F090C1
    More here:
    http://www.applemotion.net/macbreak-studio/
And some pretty advanced tutorials here:
    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeZvvhzFi_ZxWbzZ5bhJ45QWzPHQ3Y5qy
All together, probably a better education than you'd get from Lynda.com and they're all free.

  • Fade to black doesn't finish...

Using Ctrl V to show Video Animation Opacity, on a 15 frame fade, the video fades about 80% then cuts to black. It does this no matter how long or short I make the fade. I tried inserting a gap after but no help.

    Okay, just tried this myself.
    I see what you mean.
    Try this:
At the end of your movie:
Put a blank title after the fade out. This gives the playhead somewhere to go and your fade will go all the way to black.
    OR
In the middle of your movie:
Push the clips (transition included) appart so there's a little space between them. You should now see your transition fade all the way to black.

  • Slow fade to black

Hi. I am trying to create a very slow fade to black. Regardless of the amount of time I select for the fade, it just doesn't seem to work. Never had this problem with previous versions of iMovie.  If anyone can help me out, I would be very grateful!
    Nick

To do this, I would use the Fade Throought Black transition.
The way transitions work, they can be no longer than half the length of the shortest clip to either side. (In your case, there would be only the one clip to the side, since the transition is at the end. So let's say your clip is 4 seconds long. You can make the transition up to 2 seconds long.
If you need a longer transition than you have footage for, I would suggest creating a freeze frame at the end of the last clip. Set the freeze frame to be however long you need it to be so you can apply a transition to half its length.

  • What is the best way to make skin uniform (not necessarily blurring it!)

    Hi,
I have some photographs where the skin of the model's leg is not of uniform brighteness. Without blurring it, I have tried the clone stamp but it is very difficult to not introduce further variations in brightness.
What is the best way to make skin uniform in brightness (actually, the same color!)?
    Thanks,
    Juan Dent

I know EXACTLY what you mean.  I was doing something exactly on those lines just yesterday.
It's not trivial, but it's doable.
For hard "spots", you can try the Spot Healing Brush first.
But here's a neat trick I sometimes use that can nicely increase the overall smoothness:
    1.  Select just the skin area.
    2.  Contract the selection a bit and feather the edge, just to make sure you don't mess up the edges.
    3.  Filter - Noise - Median, and adjust the radius to be fairly large.  Watch the image to see the smoothness level.
    4.  Edit - Fade and knock back the effect, so that it's not perfect, but makes a subtle improvement.
Then, for gentle darkening lightening, try the Burn and Dodge Tools, set to a low Exposure level (and possibly with Airbrush Mode on).  Work gently.
Cloning with low opacity can sometime help as well.

  • Script causing fade to black

I'm having a weird problem that I can't seem to work around. Here's what I want to do:
I have a bunch of menus that have quiz questions on them (7 quizzes, each with 3-5 questions, 1 menu per question). If the user chooses the correct answer then they go directly to the track that introduces the next question. If they choose the incorrect answer then they jump to a script that adjusts their score and then jumps immediately to the track for the next question (the same one as above).
For the right answers, I get a nice clean fade transition that keeps my background image (which is common to all elements in the quiz). But going to the script first fades it to black before fading back up to the background.
One work-around would be to just make duplicates of the tracks (or of the background alone) to be used for right vs. wrong answers, and use pre-scripts that differ between those tracks to change the GPRM. But I'm up against that incredibly annoying limit of 99 tracks per project (why? why? why would they do that to me?) so I can't make enough extra tracks to solve the problem.
Another work around would be to create two tracks (one for correct and one for incorrect) that each just had 1 second of background and attach a massive pre-script to each that figured out exactly where the user was in the program, made all necessary updates in their scores. But I'm already using each menu twice for different purposes, and am also up against the limit of 99 menus per project (seriously, are they trying to ruin me?) so I can't duplicate those either.
Does anybody know of a way to work around this? Can I freeze the screen during a script or something? Or any brilliant insights into other ways to fix it? I am out of ideas!
    Thanks!
    Julie

I realized two things that helped me to figure out a work-around. First, I was confused about menus being limited to 99 (I was thinking of slideshows). In fact, menus are limited to 10,000. The other piece of information is that a track can go to a script which then goes to a menu and it does not fade to black (whereas the menu to script to track did fade to black). Who knows why. In any case, this allowed me to make things complicated but functional. It's much messier now, but at least it works.
Still, if anybody knows how to prevent the menu --> script --> track from fading out during the script, I'd love to know!
    Thanks
    Julie

  • Macbook pro 13 screen fades to black?

Does any other owner of a mid 2010 MBP 13" (puchased 2/11) have this weird problem: when the laptop is warmed up, the screen randomly dims then fades to black then in a few seconds lights up again. In addition, while the screen fades, the lights look like, oddly, stage lighting. I have already had the whole screen replaced (the whole top), but it still persists. On my next call to Apple Support they told me this is reported by others and "they are working on it" and to look for a firmware update. All fine and dandy, but I have frustration in the meantime. I and my family have been owners of many mac products since 1990. They are all great products and now that I have a real issue, I am banking on great support.

There are two other discussions about a similar topic.  See if resetting the SMC helps...otherwise, the other recommendation is to take it in for service.

  • Is there a way to create a fade only for the first loop?

I have a loop (Modern Guitar Rock 04), which I've extended out so it repeats four times. I select the Fade Tool and X-Fade for drag. I then drag just in front of the loop and onto it, which creates a fade. However, this also creates fades at the beginning of the repeating loops. Is there a way to create a fade only for the first loop?

The loop function always repeats the same region so of course the fade is also copied. So option+drag the original region to make a (non clone) copy, fade the first region and loop the second one (which you just copied).
