I installed exactly the combination you are considering in my 21.5 inch i-Mac a couple of weeks ago. I bought it from OWC based on comments and recommendations on this forum (and the fact that they are close to me as I was thinking of picking it up to save delivery time). As it turns out I had it sent, the RAM arrived the next day and I installed it in 10 minutes and it runs and performs perfectly.

I have been using Aperture on such a system, and it was o.k. with Snowleopard and moderately sized images. After I upgraded to Lion and started to user larger image files - 30 MB tiffs, I saw the occasional beachball spinning. You should be prepared to quit other applications that will hog the RAM (like Safari), when working with Aperture on Lion or Mt. Lion with only 4 GB. If you can, follow Frank Caggiano's recommendation and upgrade to 8GB. It will make a large difference.

The max number is 8GB (4GB + 4GB). Depending the current configuration:
(a) if 2GB + 2GB: you have to throw them out to get 2 + 4,
(b) if 4GB + 0GB: you need only one piece.
I can't find its full specs on HP (both Oz & Kiwi) therefore please use the following program to find out the right specs for RAM:

Selecting RAM for customized computer

Second in a series of questions about configuring a customized laptop to be suitable for using Premiere Elements 11 or 12. There is a dizzying number of options available for RAM. I realize at least 8 GB is advised, I'm happy to go to 12, but doesn't seem straightforward. For example, 12GB comprising an 8GB and 4GB dual-channel 1600MHz is less expensive than 8GB (still dual channel) in two 4GB sticks. Is there a "RAM for dummies" page somewhere that might help? TIA! Specifically, I'm looking at ASUS laptops with plenty of available options, under $1300, if anyone out there is an ASUS expert.

4GB ram for P6N SLI Platinum

Can anyone recommend me good quality ram for my P6N SLI Plat. board ? I know some memory is incompatible with it so I need to know which one I can buy that will work and good memory.
I have Q6600 + 8800GTS 640 and P6N SLI Platinum bios v.1.1.

I've been extremely happy with running Corsair Dominator PC-8500C5D's (rated 1066 but 800 chipped), in both P7N & P6N. If your OS is XP, the 2X1G set in slots 1 & 3 works good. If you have Vista, 2X2G set in slots 1 & 3 would be a good combo as well.

I am looking for a 1GB RAM. Is there any recommendation?
I called the Apple store, they have it instock, but the price is $300. I tried to ask them what brand, but they had no idea. They said it's "made for Powerbook"
Also found a Kingston on eBay (KTA-PBG4333), and the price is pretty reasonable--almost half of what Apple sells, and comes with a lifetime warranty.
Is anyone using Kingston? Is it reliable and anyone recommend it?

Do also be aware that at least numerous of the hi-res Aluminums have really finicky memory slots and pretty much require the "factory original" Samsung's. When I first upgraded mine I got the 1GB OWC, which kept freezing my machine; sent it back for another 1GB, which couldn't be recognized; and finally sent it back to them and got the Samsung, which has run flawlessly. They tested the chips I sent back and they worked fine-- just not in this machine... (My uncle's does the exact same thing-- and based on the threads, a bunch of other people's too).
Thus, whoever you get it from, make sure they've got good customer support. In the event yours is one of the ones who need the "factory original" RAM, you'll want good people!

Need HotSync Mgr for new computer

I recently upgraded my computer from Windows 2000 running ACT! 6.0 using HotSync with my PalmVx w/Palm OS3.5 using ACT!Link2.0 for Palm OS Devices. I just upgraded to a new laptop running Windows XP and ACT! Premium Version 2009 (11.0). Is there new HotSync Manager software I can download so that I can continue HotSync'ing my handheld w/the new laptop?
Also, my HotSync cradle has a serial connection (9-pin female) which I can't use with my laptop, which will need a USB connection. Is there a conversion cable I can use to plug the cradle in to my laptop?

Hello and welcome to the forums;
According to the system requirements page for ACT! http://www.act.com/2009/system/#actprem2009 it is compatible with: "Palm HotSync Manager 3.5-4.1.0 (4.1.0 recommended for Windows XP, included with Palm Desktop 4.1.4e) and 7.0.2 (included with Palm Desktop 6.2)".
Since your new laptop is Windows XP, I would recommend downloading Palm Desktop 4.1.4e from our website.
As for an adapter for your cradle, try a Google search for "serial to USB adapter"

Need to reinstall for new computer?

I had an iMac DV+ with a 40gb HD. The video/power board died on the iMac and instead of fixing it (expensive), I elected to get a used G4 from a friend.
I installed the iMac drive in the G4, and am able to boot from the drive just fine. The only glitch was that I had to change video settings for the VGA monitor.
My question is: Do I need to reinstall OS X? Everything works fine, but given that the G4 is a different processor than the G3, I wonder if a new install would give me G4-specific things that the iMac installation would not have.

Yes, I have the original Jaguar disks and the Tiger upgrade that I used on the iMac. Thanks for the Software Update suggestion, I had thought of that also. There wasn't anything there except a security update!
I'm in love with this machine, it's SO much faster than the iMac, even though the iMac was a 450mhz. Movies play better and the response time when switching/launching apps is amazing. I never would have guessed that the AltiVec would make such a difference.

Desired RAM for Computer

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum, but I’m wondering if someone can help me understand. When I bought my laptop, it was the laptop for my line of work and there were two ram options – 4 and 6GB. I bought the 6GB. That was 3 years ago. I’m now hearing things that lead me to believe I don’t have enough ram. That would make sense with the high usage alerts and occasional slow response times I’ll get.
I’m now learning that a graphic designer needs at least 8GB, preferably 16GB of ram on their computer. My question is – why? When I look up the system requirements for Photoshop, it only requires 1GB of ram, same with InDesign. The internet probably much, much less. The standard programs I’ll have open at the same time are Photoshop, InDesign and the internet. However, even if Photoshop if the only program open at that time, I might still get high usage alerts. I do realize that Windows 7 uses some ram too, but I’m still having a hard time understanding the logic behind 16GB ram. I don’t want to buy and install tons of extra ram just to do it. I want/need to understand why I’m doing it.

More RAM is better.
Much more is much better.
Photoshop stores not only the document you're editing, but also history states, cache levels, and other maintenance data. Plus certain operations need extra RAM for intermediate work products (Content Aware Fill is a good example).
The larger (pixel count) images you work with, the more the RAM needs multiply out. Use a deep data format and RAM needs double.
If I were building a brand new workstation today I would prefer 48 GB of RAM, though realistically 24 GB would probably be "enough" as long as a really fast scratch volume is available.
My current workstation has 16 GB of RAM. I usually work with 10 megapixel photos in 16 bits/channel, and sometimes I stitch several together. I use every bit of the 16 GB and quite a bit of scratch space.
