Need a permanent (remote) application reference

I need a permanent remote Labview application reference. Spending each time 4.8 seconds for Open
App. Ref. is not acceptable !
I have to write a driver which will be called by a
(huge) main program. The driver is called and exited
many hundred of times, and needs the remote app. ref.
I don't want to modify the main program, as it is
already widespread.
I have tested the permrefs.llb, but it does not work
(I have only Labview 6.0.2, not TestStand )
Any clue ?

If you want a permanent reference to a remote app, then I believe you will need to keep the client open permanently, as well. I think that your solution lies here. When LabVIEW exits it closes all references that it opened.

The APAgent monitors your AirPort base station and informs you if there are things like firmware updates available. This utility relies on Bonjour, but is not required for base station operation. However, Bonjour makes it easier for your PC to "find" the base station via the AirPort Utility and I would recommend that you keep it installed. If you don't want the APAgent, you can just use the Apple Updater utility (that was also installed when the AirPort Utility was installed) to remove it.

Do I need to install remote desktop client update

It seems when I install this update my start up time increases I just did a new erase and install of SL so do i need this update ? what is it for? start up seems so much like before SL after startup increased 5 seconds or so more

Only if you need to do remote logins to Windows servers, otherwise no.

go to SPRO-MM-Purchasing- Authorization Management-Define Function Authorizations for Buyers
click on Function Authorizations: Purchase Order
create a new entry and
check ref to PR then
goto SU01 and on parameter tab enter the Parameter id = EFB and parameter value is what you define in the functional authorization key
Enter the desired key as a parameter under the parameter ID EFB in the user master
Also make sure that,In OMET in details of function Authorization>Possible ref. objects>Tick only Ref. to purchase requisition and not anything else.

this is what you need to do to exclude everything apart from desktop.
on time machine preferences, click on Options
click plus sign, on the new window, click macintosh HD
do a Control + A then deselect users then click okay
go to options again, plus sign, go to users, control +A then deselect your user account
go to options again, plus sign, go to your user account, control + A, deselect desktop
start the back up.

New to server, need VPN for remote desktop and file share...

I've set up server and have the VPN working, I think, I need to have several outside systems join the servers VPN permanently to allow for file sharing and remote desktop. I don't want the "normal" internet browsing to go through the VPN (huge slow down) I have read that a "split DNS" or "split tunnel" is what I need, then to disable "send all traffic over VPN connection" option on each remote system. I was a little confused after reading on how to do this on Leopard server (the only instructions I found) but have absolutely no idea on how to do this on Snow Leopard server (the server I set up is 10.6) any assistance would be great, thanks in advance.

Server Admin, VPN, Settings, Client Information, Network Routing Definition.
Here add a private network record type that matches your LAN/VPN ip.
For example
IP Address: 192.168.0.0
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Type: Private

Error 42 occurred at Open Application Reference in DynamicDownload.vi

Hi！
I want to create an executable from a VI wich calls a dll created by Simulink and Simulation Interface Toolkit.
After I compile the simulink module with MSVC++ 6.0 in MATLAB,and then use this dll in LabVIEW,
the following message appears:
Error 42 occurred at Open Application Reference in DynamicDownload.vi->SIT_InitEstablishTCPConnection.vi->SIT Initialize.vi->Untitled.vi
Returning to Select Host dialog.
Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: Generic error.
What should I do to have an executable which works correctly?

I have two exe files, and i am trying to open the application reference of the other exe when i get this error.
First i thought it has something to do with the .ini file settings, which by the way is nowhere explained...

Error 1379 occurred at Open Application Reference

I have a VI server running in a executable made in LV8.0. When I try to Open Application Reference in a client in LV8.0, I get the error 1379: LabVIEW: The user failed a security authentication check.
I worked a long time with the same server in an executable of LV6, and I can call it from the same LV8.0 I was using to test my new server. It works fine.
Somebody knows if I have to allow access to the RT application, or something like that?
I'm using Windows 2000 NT Professional, SP4.

Swap your network cables. LabVIEW VI Server binds itself to the first network card it sees and will not talk to your second card. So, make sure the the remote machine you are talking to can be reached via the first network card listed by Windows.
This is definily a bug in VI Server but I don' think NI has any plans to fix it.

Need help on remote printing info for custom PDF form...

I did quite a lot of search on this requirement but failed to access the correct info in this forum. In case anyone has already done this, please do explain and point to the right link. thanks
I have a custom table where I will maintain every customer's email id, printer name (printer in his network where he wants me to print this PDF output, there can be multiple printers separated by comma) and his fax number.
Question 1: For remote printing,what all details do I need to maintain in my custom table regarding that printer (IP address or what ?? )? Also, any other configuration to be done to make this happen ?
Question 2: In my code how do I trigger my ADOBE form to be sent to that remote printer for printing ?

As of now, the print dialog opens and i can see the adobe output in the print preview option. This is OK for me when I want to do local printing. But how do I trigger the remote printing automatically based on the values in the custom table.
This is purely a custom transaction based printing and hence no output determination is configured .

Guideline needed for Multi-Remote-Server Management

Hi all,
I'm busy with a project with multiple SQL servers, each with its own database.
The setup up is as follows:
6 SQL servers, where 1 is at the head office and the other 5 are remote branches.
I need to configure the following:
When Head office makes any changes to the Column: AveCost
in the dbo.STK_ProdPrice Table its needs to sync down to all the branches (when Head office does price increases on products). Now the update can run on a schedule (lets say 12am) so if the Table locks it would not cause any problems.
The SQL database structure for all SQL Servers are exactly the same (Exact same Tables, Exact same Column headings etc.)
What would be the best solution for this configuration?

One option is Replication : Make your head office server as Publisher and keep all other 5 as subscriber ( transactional replication ). There
is no limit to to the number of subscribers that a publisher can support.
Another one is AlwaysON -- You can consider using Always 2012 but it will support only 4 replicas, may be you can think about 2014, this will support 8 Replicas, and this will keeps your data in sync..

Help need setting up remote desktop (on a router)

hey networking pros,
I have major trouble setting up remote login (remote desktop).
Specification : OSX tiger, LINKSYS
now i have managed to use tightVNC and manage remote desktop BUT that was when i was on the same network. Now my laptop lies at home and at school (work) i have windows running and want to access my mac at home. I cant manage to do that. Since i am on a different network and that i have router at home and also i do not use air port express (i use a linksys)
I need a static ip which in need to know the DNS servers (adelphia dosent give that to me since i am not a business customer). I have enabled port forwarding (5900) i have even set up an an account with dysDNS.org (i dunno how that helped).

You already have most of what you need, but you do need a little more understanding of what you're doing.
Keep in mind that the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client is one-way only. You can connect from a Mac to a Window XP Professional computer, but not from Windows XP Pro to Mac OS X. What I describe below is how to connect from a Mac on the Internet to a Windows XP Pro computer at home.
First, Remote Desktop may look like VNC, but it's not the same thing. Therefore, port 5900, which works with VNC, won't work for Remote Desktop. You'll want to port forward 3389 to make this work. When you go to your router and make this port forward entry, you'll enter the IP address of the machine you want to direct all RDC traffic to. This gets the RDC traffic from your router to your computer.
You went to DynDNS.org to help you find your router on the Internet. The IP address, as you've researched, can change. But if you set up your router to report its IP address to DynDNS then you can always connect to your router by name. You don't have to keep track of your IP address changing. DynDNS will do this for you. This gets the RDC traffic from you to your router.
So, the steps are:
1. Set up a DynDNS.org account and you'll give yourself a name such as "myrouter" so that you can use a name like "myrouter.homeip.net" to connect to your home network.
2. On your router, port forward all incoming Internet 3389 traffic to the IP address and port 3389 of your computer.
3. On your Windows XP Pro computer (you can't do this with Windows XP Home) enable the Remote Desktop Connection software (right-click My Computer --> Properties --> Remote tab --> select the second checkbox).
4. From a Mac somewhere on the Internet, open the RDC client and enter the DynDNS name you gave yourself and click the Connect button.
5. Your Mac will contact DynDNS and get your current IP address.
6. Your Mac will then connect to your home router, which will forward all RDC traffic (coming in on port 3389) to your Windows computer in your home.

As far as I know, cross references are available in CS4/5, not in CS3. It is possible to write a script that creates hundreds, thousands of them very quickly taking the necessary information, let's say from tagged text. You wrote only one line, so it's difficult to me to imagine what XML structure you have and what your requirements are. But here is a script I wrote a while ago -- probably you need something similar, and here's the source code (not final version, of course) to show the approach I used.

Do I need to close an opened step reference?

I am programmatically renaming a step by getting a reference to the step using method "GetStepByName". Do I need to then close this reference after I am done renaming the step? If so, how? I do not see a corresponding close. Thanks

This is going to be specific to the environment you are using to get the reference. If you are doing this in a TestStand sequence, the reference will be automatically closed when you the variable goes out of scope. If you are using LabVIEW, you will need to use the Close Reference VI. In CVI, you will need to use the CA_DiscardObjHandle method. In C++, if you are using the StepPtr class, you do not need to do anything. In C# or VB.NET, you do not need to do anything since it will be automatically cleaned up by the garbage collector.
