Need alerting on Page File % usage
Hello-
We are using SCOM 2012R2 for our environment- this is exactly what I need to accomplish
1. Monitor File Page Percentage used
2. Establish a warning and critical state, lets say warning at 90% usage and Critical at 95% on only the page file
3. We have email alerting and is running perfectly- numerous tests
Does SCOM have the ability to do this out of the box??? If so could you walk through it for me

Hi Gunny,
SCOM Can do more than that. Yes it is possible.
You need to create 2 unit monitors for that. 1 for Warning 90% usage and the second for Critical
at 95%.
Create a unit monitor with the below performance counter for Page file usage in %
Monitor target : Windows Server Operating System (Will alert if this appears on all the agents running windows server o/s)
Select the items as below:
Object: Paging File
Counter: % Usage
Instance: Check the box below as all instances are needed.
Click next and mention the threshold 90%
And select the alerting type as per the screen shots.
Last Check enable the alert and the severity (Warning or critical)
Create the same way for another Critical for 95 %
Apologize for a mixed screenshot. Microsoft allows only 2 photos per answer.
If screen shot is not visible open it in a new window to enlarge.

Below is the server configuration,
OS: Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 Bit
Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
CPU: 4 (@ 2.93 GHz, 1 core)
Memory: 12 GB
Page file: 12 GB
1. The actual utilization, be it a 15 minute sample, hourly, weekly etc, the utilization of real memory has never crossed 20% and the page file usage is at 0.1%. For some reason, the Pages/Sec>Limit% counter reports 100% continuously regardless of the
sampling intervals. Upon further observation, the Page Reads/Sec value is somewhere between 150~450 and Page Input/Sec is somewhere between 800~8000. Does this indicate a performance bottleneck? (I've in the interim asked the Users, App. Owners to see if they
notice any performance degradation and awaiting response). If this indicates a performance issue, please could someone help list down how to track this down further to which process/memory mapped file is causing it? and what I should go about performing to
fix this problem please?
p.s., initially the Security logs were full on this server and since page file is tied to Application, Security and System logs, this was freed up to see if this is causing the high page reads but this doesn't.
2. If the above does not necessarily indicate a performance problem, please can someone reference few KB articles that confirms this? Also, in this case, will there be any adverse effects if attempting to fine tune a server which is already running fine?
assuming App. Owners confirm there isn't any performance degradation.

Page File Usage heavy with WebCamCenter
First of all the Camer (Web Cam Live) is installed and working fine with all other related applications but when I start the Creative WebCamCenter my processor and Page file usage goes thru the roof and my PC is then so unresponsive as to be useless.
XP Pro, SP2
52k Meg Ram
Norton Anti Virus 2004 & Netgear WG5 Wireless Network are the only other programs launched on startup.
Any Ideas anyone?
and Yes, I've uninstalled, re-installed (both with original and new Drivers) with no improvement.

Have you tried installing with your AntiVirus and Firewall programs disabled? Disabling these during the install can help in making sure that you aren't experiencing any interference from these programs.

You can get iWork 09 on the net. You haven't had Pages before? Who is sending you Pages documents? Ask them to export the document to Word or Rtf and you will be able to read the documents in TextEdit, which you have on your computer

Need advice on Page file settings in Windows 7 x64

I just opgraded my main CS6 rig to a total of 32 GB RAM. This means, that the system has added allocated space for the page file on my system drive, a 128 GB Corsair Pro SSD disc, and I therefor only have 23 GB free.
I was wondering if I could put some or all of it on another, 240 GB SSD I have in my system that I use for PPRO previews, media cache etc. or I should simply upgrade my system drive to the 240 GB version?
I have 2 600 GB WD Raptor 10K rpm drives too, one for media and one for render, could maybe put it there too?
I am a bid unsure how to do this rigth, so any advice would be appreciated

Ulf....I am sure soon you will hear from others on this forum more knowledgeable than me....but, from what I've read hear before, to produce the fastest performance with your current equipment would be to keep your OS and programs only on your current "C" drive. Assuming these SSDs are SATA III for best performance, you would then place a static pagefile at least 1.5x your installed system memory,(at least 48 GB), on the 240GB SSD, along with the previews, cache, and media cache files.
No need to worry about any "SSD reliability" issues on that drive, as all those files can easily be re-created.
Then , for fastest performance, you would create a 2 disk onboard RAID 0 with the two Raptors to place your media on for fastest editing performance. However, you must use an additional disk as the primary location of your important, original media files.....then, you would copy those onto the RAID for editing speed.
Then, you may either : export to the 240GB SSD for faster export.....then copy those to that new additional 7200 RPM you must buy,or, just export to that new drive directly,( may take a little longer).
Newer Marvell controlled, ( not Sandforce), SSDs are supposedly able to handle "incompressible data", (like digital video files), well, without slowing down during writes. Storage Review and other sites have tested these.....Plextor and Corsair Pro series SSDs look to be the best,but, expensive. I have NOT had any trouble so far with my SATA II Corsair F120 SSDs....at the time, 2 years ago, that drive was rated as having read and write speeds of over 200MB/sec. My tests showed that to be true. A large,cheap Marvell controlled SSD is the Crucial M4,( just issued new firmware)......it was as low as $339 for a 512GB recently.
In general, you will hear criticism here on using SSDs for video editing. Without using a huge RAID array and expensive controller card....the standard recommendation for a system like yours is to have a five drive setup.....plus backup. One drive for OS and programs, plus two -2 drive onboard RAID 0 arrays.
Use of a single 7200rpm disk,( at 100-130MB/sec.) can slow you while editing.....hence the fast RAID arrays. Speed of OS drive is not that critical, once the program is up and running....it is your "project" disk speed that is important.
Once re-configured, you should visit the PPBM5 website, and see how your rig does with the benchmark test compared to other setups. -

OK, I have an i7 rig with 12GB of ram, running 64-Bit Windows 7 Professional. Naturally I left the box checked that says "Let Windows manage paging file sizes". So now I have a whopping 12GB swap file on my boot drive. With 12GB of RAM, do I need a 12GB page file? I would think Windows wouldn't even need to go into the page file with that much ram. Would it be bad to max the file at 4GB or something like that? Where do you guys/gals set it at?With that much RAM, you're right in that Windows will not often have to use the swap. Others may have a different view, but I say just leave the settings as they are. It won't hurt.

I am stumped - I am trying to open a recent Pages file (created with a newer software that I thought was correctly installed recently) but error message says that I need a "newer version" of Pages. My software updates show that there are no updates available. Pages 09 version 4.3 shows as my current version.
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.

thx in advanceThne unfortunately, your document is gone. You can restore lost or deleted documents from backups if you have backups - and as long as the backup contains the document - but if you did not copy the file to your computer - or backup the iPad, the document is gone.
You really should start backup up your iPad. You can sign up for a free 5GB iCloud account right on the iPad and then you can use iCloud for backing up. You can do it right on the iPad. -

Trouble opening a just created Pages file.....error message says I need a newer version of Pages......Apple Store says I have version 5.0.......opening an older Pages file it says I have version 4.3.......can not find any way to try another upgrade to 5.0........please help......
ThanksPersonally, I would not recommend deleting/removing the iWorks 09 folder for several reasons: one is that the new versions have had several functionalities removed and until you decide that you can work with the new one and do not miss any features the older version had, I would leave the old one in place. Personally, I will not be using the new versions.
The second reason is that you can accomplish what you want using a different approach: simply open a Get Info window of your document and choose which version of Pages you want this to open in - you can also stipulate that all docs like this are opened with whichever particular version.
FWIW: Once you have edited an old document in the new Pages version, you can no longer open it in the older version. However, you can still export it to the old version. -

just bought a new apple air, with the yosemite downloaded;
but I found the pages 5.5 abysmal, without the full-screen and maneuverability seen in the old one...
wanted to retrieve it from apps but in vain;

Well, the weird thing is that I installed OS X mavericks on the old Air, the 2011 one, before the launch of Yosemite older Air.
And the old pages 09 and the new pages file coexisted on the 2011 Air (but still, the pages 09 is slightly different when connected to the projector, with the control panel folded and thus less convenient )
Then I upgraded my new Air, the 2014 one, to Yosemite, only to find the new pages removed the full-screen option and a few more novel but useless options that only impede maneuverability.
Therefore I am asking for the favor of helping me, or teaching me, to retrieve the old pages on the new one; and I guess I don't have the old iWork DVD and thus not the old iWork installer.
But my old Air can still run the old and slightly different pages 09 while running the newer pages(not the Yosemite version).

Oh, okay. After selecting the format I want to send, it says "creating... ". Then irrespective of the format I choose the message e.g. "creating spreadsheet" disappears, and so does the choice window (where I earlier chose Mail). I am taken back to the Numbers (or Page) where I had started from. Diavonex's note indicated that after "creating ... " stage I should be taken to an option where I can type in email address where I want to send the file, if I want to copy it to another address etc. I cannot arrive at that page - no matter whether I am working with Pages or Number, or which format I choose for the file to share !
I will try to close as you have suggested and try. However, I have switched on and off several times by now, but nothing changed!
Will look forward to any ideas to solve this !!!

I cannot open my existing Pages files any longer. I get a message that my Pages needs to be updated. But when I go to update Pages, I am told I have the latest Pages. Is anyone else having this problem?

Dreamweaver is the first tool i've used that works with svn that doesn't support several types of svn meta data. If they're going to claim that Dreamweaver supports svn is should actually support svn, the current version, not a version several years old. This should have been among the first patches released, or at least after snow leopard came out (and packaged with it the current version of svn).
does anyone know if the code that handles meta data formatting is something that is human readable, or where it might be, or is it in compiled code.
