  • To drive Unipolar Stepper Motors using MID drive

Hello friends I have purchased a RS components MID drive and I want to control a unipolar stepper motor using the same. The stepper motor is having 6 wires. I have used the same drive to run a bipolar stepper motor but I need to know as to how I can wire a unipolar motor to the same.I would like to know the connections and the disadvantages if any in driving a unipolar stepper motor using the MID drive.

You can drive unipolar motors with the 7602/7604, but you wire them as if they were bi-polar. The user manual (which can be downloaded from the NI web site for free) shows the way to wire the 4-phase motor as a two phase motor on page 26. The basic idea is that you either ignore the center tap - wire Phase A to Phase A, and Phase A' to Phase A', or ignore one of the phases by attaching Phase A to Phase A, and Phase A' to the center tap.
    Hope this helps-

  • Can I Connect a 6-wire Unipolar Stepper Motor to the MID-7654/7652?

I am trying to connect a 6-wire unipolar stepper motor to the MID-7654/7652  motor driver and was wondering how the wiring would work on that?

The connector is simply a pass-through for the signals generated by the motion controller card for hooking up to a separate driver compatible with stepper motors. It would be used if you had a combination of servo and stepper motors in your system used in conjunction with separate servo and stepper drives.

  • Controling bipolar stepper motors with usb NI-6008 DAC

hi i need help to get an example vi that explaining how to control two bipolar stepper motors using USB NI-Data acquisition card 6008, i have the drivers of the motors, could any body help me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

you are more than welcome .. ok i attached a vi that could help you .. i'll illustrate how to connect your driver to your usb data acquisition card.
1-on the digital I/P O/P side of the DAQ there's a 5V pin, connect it to the both 5V pins (Pulse and Direction) of the driver.
2- the other 2 pins (Pul- and Dir-) connect it to port0/line0  for Pul-  ,  and port0/ line1 for Dir-.  ( you can configure the ports as u like from the block diagram window of the vi ).
3- let the enable pins without connection. ( it's normally enabled).
for motor connection: (dont connect any of these pins to the DAQ)
     there are 6 pins.
first you need to know the wires of the motor coils, you could test it with any AVO meter.
1- the first pin connected to the ground of the battery.
2- the second pin to the positive pole of the battery.
    3,4 the first coil.
    5,6 the second coil.
try it and i hope i helped you, tell me if it worked.

  • Write a Labview program to control both speed and direction of stepper motors

    Hello,
I am currently undertaking a project in University. As part of it I have to run two stepper motors at varying speeds, and one of them in forward/reverse. The motor I have for the project is a RS 191-8334 (V9728) and the controller is a RS 240-7920 (v10900). I have no experience of using Labview, and the version I have on my laptop is Labview 10. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ideally I would want a program to do both full/half steps, forward/reverse, have speed control and be able to control the number of steps.

    Hi Wef,
I would need to know more information about the devices in order to assist you.
What inputs does the stepper motor controller require and what hardware are you using to supply the required signals to the motor.
    Best regards,

  • What NI Stepper Drive is compatible with both NEMA 11 and NEMA 42 stepper motors?

I have a NI PXI-7350(Motion Controller), a NI UMI7774 (Universal Interface), and a NI P70530(Stepper Drive) and I tried linking up a new NEMA 11 stepper motor linear actuator from Hayden Kirk and kept getting a constant red blinking light on the driver. I then connected my new NEMA 23 stepper motor linear actuator from Hayden Kirk and the driver had the go ahead green light and it worked fine. I consulted the manuals and saw that the driver was only compatible for NEMA 17-34 Steppers. I tried the third party setting as well for the NEMA 11 to no avail. Does anyone know of a NI Stepper Drive that is compatible with my UMI and Motion Controller and also is compatible with a NEMA 11 and NEMA 42 (another motor I need controlled) stepper motors?????
    Solved!

Thank you for the quick response
So I have connected as the Third Party Motor option with the P70530 Stepper Driver. I have read the manual and selected the appropriate DIP switches for the third party motor setting. As instructed I downloaded the P7000 Tools 2.11 to set up the motor with the driver. When I open it and try to search for the driver nothing is located. I have appropriately changed the COM settings in the device manager to the appropriate values and also I am seeing the steady green light on the driver. I am at another stand still. What else can I do to get the driver recognized so I can set up these motors?
    Thank you for your time,
    Tom

  • Customer Service Complaint - Need Assistance ASAP and not getting it!

I sent in my Yoga Laptop for repairs two weeks ago. When I spoke with technical support, I was told that my laptop would be fixed within 7 business days, and returned to me. These 7 business days have since passed and I have yet to receive an update on my laptop, let alone my actual laptop. When I called to complain about this to 1-877-453-6686, I was told I would be getting a call back from customer service within 48 hours. These 48 hours have also passed and have not yet received a call. I called again today to find out what was happening and was told nothing more than "you will be contacted by them within 48 hours".
I was supposed to leave for Europe this past Sunday, and was told by the person I originally spoke to that I would have my laptop by then. Nope. Nothing. I am now leaving next Sunday and am very worried I will have to go purchase a new laptop, at my own cost, because Lenovo is unable to uphold to their customer service standards and provide me with any feedback. I am at the point of filing a complaint about the company to the Better Business Bureau here in Canada, but I feel the problem would best be resolved if Lenovo actually contacted me back. I have been without a laptop for 2 weeks now, and as a student, this is too long!!
Lenovo Customer Service, please contact me ASAP! I am not a happy customer right now and you guys have caused me way more stress than I need.
    Thank you!

  • Configure stepper motor with MAX

    Hi,
After wiring VI, I don't know what must I do to control my stepper motor?
Can anyone give general information what must to do.
How to configure stepper motor with MAX? I'm using PCI6036E.
    Thank you

The answer to your question is dependent on your motor/motor controller and the inputs that it needs. Are you using a stepper motor controller? The PCI-6036E probably won't be able to supply enough current to power your motor (max 5mA) by itself, so you will probably need a stepper motor controller. With the 6036E, you do have 2 analog outputs, 8 digital I/O, and 2 counters (can be used for pulse train generation). Have you considered an NI Motion Control Board? ni.com/motion

  • Stepper motors to move antenna

    Hello !
My name is Paul, I am from Romania.
I need some ideas on how to make a project.
I need to control a fake antenna (I am saying fake because it won't be attached to anything, just for display purposes) using LabView.
The antenna will be very small (about 15cm in diameter and made from light materials) so I won't need powerfull motors. I was thinking about hooking up 2 stepper motors (maybe from a printer) to some sort of controll board and to a PC with LabView. The antenna needs to move 360 degrees on a round base and 180 degrees of elevation.
I found a video on youtube that is a lot more complicated and a lot heavier than what I need, but should give you a better perspective of what I am talking about.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vihdaseWNQw
I need the cheapest way possible (because I am on my own budget).
    Thank you !

I drew a quick sketch hoping you will understand better what I'm trying to do. I only connected one stepper motor for a test run. I opened the "Arduino Stepper Motor.vi" in LabView and tested on stepper motor 1. It didn't move (but maybe I didn't set it up correctly in labview). The setup was made exactly as the picture I attached.
The stepper motor 1 (which controls elevation) has to move the antenna 90 degrees. So I'm guesing I have to divide the 90 degrees to 1.8 degrees (the motors deg/step) to find out how many steps I need in total. And the same for stepper motor 2 (360 / 1.8).
So I need a .vi that automaticaly transforms the degrees which you set the elevation and azimuth to steps for the stepper motors. And when I press "Start" the two motors move to the desired position. I also need a "Reset" button to automaticaly come back to the original position (which will be 0 degrees azimuth and 0 degrees elevation - let's say the magnetic north) each time I run the program.

  • Running a system which conclude "Stepper motor + Pressure sensors"

    Hello
I need some help as a beginner. Would u please guide me?
Actually my project is about running a system with LabVIEW which is contain a stepper motor (with different speeds in clockwise and unit clockwise) a pressure sensor, a switch for calibration the sensor and finally reporting the output as a graph with shows the distance that motor moves a barrier and changes of pressure during the movements of barrier.
Right now, I have stuck in ordering the hardware parts for connecting the PC to the system. I don't know exactly what do I need to handle the hole system. Would you please help me? I don't know from were and how should I start?
    Thanks a lot

As GerdW mentioned in the other post you might want to speak with a NI applications engineer.  If this is a school project of some type and/or you just want to spec everything yourself then you certainly can.  Your first step is to define all the physical parameters of your devices.  So you need to know what kind of stepper motors you need based on the required angular resolution, torque, etc.  What kind of pressure gauge will you use?  What type of output will it provide you (simple voltage, pulse train, full USB interface)???  What kind of switch will you use.  Can it be controlled by low-current TTL or will you need a driver or relay?
Make a list of everything you will need for your application:  motors, sensors, switches, etc.  Then determine how to interface to them.  THEN you can start looking through your hardware options and pick the best choices based on your needs.

  • Control of DMX J SA 17 stepper motor in Labview

    Hi,
I'm trying to build a simple program to control an Arcus Technology DMX J SA 17 stepper motor via USB. I'm basing my program on the example which Arcus provide on their website, and which I attach in an llb (the program is demo.vi, the rest are sub vi's).
The motor also comes with a piece of standalone software for controlling it, and this program works fine - which implies that there is no problem with the hardware or connection.
The problem I'm having is that when running the demo, having input some arbitrary positions for the motor to turn to, it returns error 8004:
"LabVIEW:  An input parameter is invalid. For example if the input is a path, the path might contain a character not allowed by the OS such as ? or @.
    =========================
NI-488:  Command requires GPIB Controller to be Controller-In-Charge."
The error is confusing because the control mechanism does not use GPIB hardware or commands, also the VI was made by Arcus and I would have expected them to handle the formatting of the data inputs correctly.
Any help would be much appreciated
    Dan

    Hi Jack,
Thanks very much for your help. I've managed to complete the VI now, working as was intended. The principle problem came from trying to use demo.vi as a standalone - it turns out all the vi's in the .lib are sub-vi's apart from utility.vi. This was of course, not at all clear - and I've emailed Arcus recommending that they includ some descriptive documentation with the .lib download.
What was happening was that demo.vi was trying to send commands without having first established a communication channel, which is done by two other sub-vi's in sequence (device selector and open device). Also, once communication is established, the motor needs to be sent the command string 'EO=1' to be enabled.
I attach the final vi I made 'motor control' and the sub vi library, incase anyone working with the same hardware finds them usefull.
    Thanks again,
    Dan

  • Novice to Stepper Motor --- Need help wiring

I recently purchased a stepper motor from Digi-key, and I have underestimated the wiring requirements for the motor. Silly me thought it would be a simple two wire, power + - installation.
The motor is from Digi-Key part number 403-1017-ND.
The motor is made by Danahar Motion (www.portescap.com) part number 55M048D2U.
I have found the wiring scematic for the motor, but it is a just a table of on/off configurations for 4 of the six wires.
I had wanted to use this motor to do 70 steps at 70Hz. That 70Hz signal would be send by a DIO channel.
I have no knowlegde of stepper motors.
What I am looking for is some info on stepper motors. Basic information, where to look, what to read up on. Unless someone knows exactly what I need to do, I would prefer to learn about it my self. So if someone knows of a good online or text referance that would be great.

Here is a link to a tutorial on stepper motors. It seems to cover them fairly well.
    You might also just google:
    stepper motor tutorial
    stepper motor basics
    stepper motor class
I don't really know of a specific source right now, but these queries should get you something.
    Hope that this helps,
