Need basic advice on images in IL copied to Word

Some time ago I started using IL instead of PPT for my basic vector graphics.  The images are then used on web sites or in documents.  I sorta know how to place images in ID but I'm having a hard time getting good quality results when I use them in Word if I need to do any scaling.
I use this technique:  Determine the physical dimensions of the image in Word.  Within IL I Select All and then scale to the appropriate %.  I then export as a bmp (300dpi) and finally insert the bmp in the Word document.  I'm getting bad line edges.
There has to be a science and art to doing this and I benefit from some learning.
Would someone point me to info on file formats, resizing, etc. so I can up to speed?  There has to be a simple tutorial out there that also helps explain all the file formats.
Tom

function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I assume one gets better print quality if a DPI flag is present.
No. What you're referring to as "a DPI flag" is just a scale factor. Many raster formats do not store a scale factor. Even those that do may be be ignored by the program into which it is imported.
Because it's just a scale factor, it is simple to compensate, regardless of file format. For example, if you place a 72 PPI image (it's better to refer to raster resolution as Pixels Per Inch, not Dots Per Inch) into a layout, and then scale it to 50%, its PPI will then be 144.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
A little later there's a post suggesting emf for Office.  I tried that but the quality of the graphics still are very poor....The graphics is pretty simple.  A few rounded rectangle boxes, a couple straight lines, and text areas.
Depends on content. Fills? Grads? Version? Without gettting into alot of object-specific caveats, just try it. If you get unsatisfactory results, you'll have to resort to a raster format. Use PNG.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I ran the same test using a png.  The rectangle lines are much better as is the text but the text is a little "bolder" than the original and just slightly blurry.
Try toggling the option for either Type Optimized or Art Optimized. It's accessible in the PNG export dialog and in the Save For Web dialog.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
...is there any easy explanation why these export formats perform differently in Word (for my education)?
Rasterization is, by its nature, a compromise. That's one reason why vector graphics exist. When working with office applications, resorting to raster formats is often unavoidable. Office apps simply do not support the kinds of vector graphics which (PostScript) programs designed for the print world do. Again, that's why print-oriented graphics programs exist. Word, for example, doesn't know didly about printing color separations.
Similarly, web browsers ignore the scale factors embedded in images; instead you code the image scaling in the HTML.
So the simple fact is, not all programs can handle the "higher end" functionality of cubic Bezier curves, CMYK images, etc., etc. So one has to find acceptable "lowest common denominators," which--when speaking of graphics--usually means restorting to raster images and accepting the inherent limitations of that.
On the other hand, Illustrator can't handle things as basic as data merge or tables, either.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Is it possible there's something about my graphics (font chosen, stroke size, ???) that makes it difficult for these transforms?
You're dealing with rasterization and anti-aliasing. Again, it's a compromize required whenever working with raster formats. If you don't anti-alias, you get "less fuzzy" text at small sizes, but you also get more jagged edges in vector objects.
You just have to have realistic expectations when rasterizing small text.

  • Need Basic advice on save format & slide show project

    I have started a project to scan and save approximately 5,000 color slides and 5,000 plus Photos  of  Family and Friends over a 50 year period.
    My goal is to use Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 to edit and save files to hard drive and then use PSE 9 to Organize, add tags etc.
    and then produce slide shows  to view primarily on big screen (52 inch plus) HDTV sets.
    The equipment I will be using 1ncludes: 1. Epson Perfection V600 Photo Flatbed Scanner
    2. Nikon Cool Scan IV  Slide & Film Scanner
    3. Dell XPS 8300, Intel i7 3.4ghz processor, 12.0gb installed memory, 2 each 1tb hard drives.
      4. Windows 7 OS
    I have been working on scanning and saving pictures for over 2 months and the deeper I get into this project the more questions arise.
    I am looking for advise now rather than later so I won't have to re-do hours of work later. I have visited Forums and viewed all the Tutorials I could find for help.
    Some things I don't entirely understand and really need help and advice on are: 1. What is the best sequence of workflow?
    2. What format, size and resolution would be best to" save as" for my purpose?
    I see no need to save in high quality PSD if I am not going to Print Photos later?
    3. Should I do re-sizing to 1500pi X 1000pi (Or ??) during the initial edit or later in Organizer?
    I have been cropping and saving photos in a multitude of sizes and resolutions.
    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  I have a lot to learn. Thanks, Donald

    There will be lots of opinions and your mileage will vary. Get the book ScanTips - www.scantips.com.  It da bomb
    I had a similar Epson flatbed and number and my workflow was like this:
    * Use the Epson scan software
    * Set to 2400 bpi and save to TIFF (I now wish I had saved most to high quality JPEG.  Sigh).
    * Use Digital Ice where it mattered (Ektachrome) and not where it didn't (Kodachrome)
    * Organize belt and suspenders -- directories (and Organizer tags) identical to the date stamp on the slide.  It will help you a lot when you correct the EXIF date later and if you ever want to find the slide again in  the tray or a more compact box storage (I threw away a lot of trays)
    * Expose the slides to air as little as possible.  I found it better to go direct from carousel to scanner with only enough time to dust carefully and orient
      (it takes less time to throw away losers on the scanner display than on a viewer box)
    * Throw away the loser
    * Start with a stack and as I lay them on the flatbed, dust carefully.  I used an old-fashioned StaticMaster - saved lots of time versus a blower brush
    * Learn the histogram on the scanner software.  It does a good job on bottom and top values but the mid-tones almost always benefit and it will save you oodles of time
    * set the correct date (as close as you can) in your organizing software
    * If I cropped, it was to a 12x9 ratio (good for prints and not bad for conventional TV)
    * I found Microsoft Photo Story 3 did a nice job and handled resolution and cropping fine.

  • Need your advice about image creation

    Hi,
    I am trying to create image of my c partition on Satellite A100-529 - no luck. Norton ghost freezes (booted from DOS) just after start, g4l cannot load (kernel panic), partimage, being a part of SystemRescue CD package does not see the hd drive! Has anyone tried using any image creation/restore software other than Toshiba Recovery CD? Any luck with it? Please let me know.
    Thanks in advance for any help on that matter.

    Hello Czeslaw
    I have very good experiences with NORTON GHOST 2003 (Version 2003.775). This application runs under Windows and I have tested it with several Toshiba notebooks. It works perfect.
    I use my unit just for work and I create image every two or three weeks. I create it always on partition D and if something goes wrong I can start Ghost application and restore the unit from partition D. If you want you can also create DVDs.

  • I need some advice...

    Hi, I'm not quite sure where this topic should go exactly as it isn't about a specific topic. So plz fogive me if it's wrongly placed in your opinion.
    Anyway, I've been a long time fan of Linux and I don't want to have to stop using it. I've just recently converted my whole computer to a linuxbox only system, as I was running winxp(uke) before and couldn't stand it. It would lag during simple tasks like going from one directory to another and for no apparent reason, which aided me in my conversion. Enough about winblows, I don't need to tell you guys why it sucks, we all have our reasons. But there is just one thing bothering me now... and that is gaming. I am a huge fan of gaming and have been doing so for quite some time now (years) and well... gaming on linux hasn't been too pleasant for obvious reasons.
    1) the games I play except for quake3 are written and made to run solely on a winblows workstation.
    2) Wine and Winex3 have limited, but growing support for a range of games.
    3) Lastly the main game I would like to play (Steam CS 1.6) doesn't like to run on linux due to its constant updates, which throws WInex3 out of wack. Where it could have been working the day before but due to the update it no longer runs.
    I'm thinking of just making a partition for winxp(uke) so that I can game, but this isn't something I'm totally willing to do.
    Basically I need some advice and/or suggestions that anyone is willing to share with me.
    Thank you in advance.
    BTW: I'm not new to linux, I've been using it for almost 2 years now and have tried ALL of the distro's you can think of. (Arch is my distro of choice at the moment, along with slackware.)

    Enemy Territory is an excellent game, and it is totally free.
    I haven't played the free game from the US Army, but heard it is really good, and is totally free.
    I bought Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which plays perfectly in Single player mode, but I have some trouble in multiplayer mode (and I'm not an expert either).
    I bought Unreal Tournament 2004, which plays perfectly in both single player and online, but I simply suck at the game.
    I bought Never Winter Nights because I know the company has a linux version you can download once you have a registered copy.  I havent installed it yet, though, been playing UT2004.
    Doom3 is supposedly going to have a linux installer on the CD's, like UT2004 does.
    Anygame that uses OpenGL graphics instead of DirectX will prolly run under WINE or WINEX, or be easy for the original company to port (if they choose to).
    There are some "up and coming" linux only OpenGL games, light flightgear (a flight simulator), and a couple of 'massive online games".
    Betweet RTCW, EnemyT, Never Winter Nights, UT2004, and soon Doom3 - I have enough games to play, and thats without buying winex.
    Fergettabout Windows! You simply don't need it anymore.
    If you are determined to run Windows, get a removeable drive bay, and just swap boot drives when you want to swtich.  Or use GRUB if you want to select from multiple OS's.
    thx

  • Harddisk might be failing, weird errors.  Need some advice.

    Hi
    I apologise in advance for the long post...
    I have a 17" 1.67 Powerbook with 1.5gb RAM running 10.4.9, it's the last model of the 17" PB that Apple shipped.
    Okay, I had some strange problems with it which went on for a year. I would occasionally lose my airport connection and everything would slow down to turtle speed, I mean major lags in mouse movements, apps, the whole thing, like a totally crippled system. Only a reboot helped.
    Went to a 'Genius' at the apple store recently, he couldnt figure out the problem, he said it may be the internal HD but was not sure and couldn't figure it out, he ran disk utility, which I could've done and found nothing and doubted it was the drive. After the Genius meeting, the problem persisted, until I updated from 10.4.5 to 10.4.9, now I don't get it.
    Okay, so yesterday I ran ONYX, and it detected a harddrive error, you can see the error message here:
    I immediately made ONYX repair permissions and run it's daily, weekly, monthly scripts. I then opened disk utility and clicked on 'Verify Disk', an error there to saying I need to repair. Image below:
    I cloned my HD with Carbon Copy Cloner to an external USB drive, the external is what I use for my backups. Since I have loads of stuff backed up on that drive I was scared about using the 'make this bootable' option in CCC as I thought it may wipe the external, so i did a straight clone. Did I make a mistake? If I need to delete the internal drive can I restore from the clone even though I didn't click bootable?
    Lastly, how do I boot with the OS X Install Disk to run disk utility and is there anything I need to be doing I haven't yet?
    Does this sound like a failing hard drive? I'm confused on what to do now, any advice would be muchly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karan
    17" Powerbook HiRes 1.67, 1.5Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   FCP Studio, iWork'06

    Looks pretty conclusive to me. To boot from an alternate disk, place the OS Install disk in your machine, go to the System Preferences and select Startup Disk. Choose the install disk and off you go.
    If you get stuck and can't eject the install disk, you can reboot, holding down the left mouse button and the disk ejects automatically. You'll be back on your main disk again.
    OK, I see you're a FCP user so perhaps a new external might give you some benefit anyway so, were it me having the problems, I'd buy one. You can use that to create you boot disk and diagnose the problem. If all's well having cloned to that, replave the internal disk. If things are still flakey, it an erase and new install on the internal and you still have a nice shiney disk for FCP.
    Best of luck...

  • Need to square various images - some tall, others wide - ideas?

    I have several thousand images. They vary in size and some are tall and others wide.
    I need to have all images square. Not wanting to lose resolution or have smaller images expanded and look bad.
    How can I make all of my images square? Which if any of your programs would do that in a batch process?
    examples:
    An image 200 x 400 end up 400 x 400
    an image 800 x 600 end up 800 x 800
    and so on. Or if anything make them all 600 x 600 wand resize down large images or give white space around smaller images.
    Which program if any will do this?
    thanks,
    Dave

    Mass resizing tutorial
    So you're wanting uniform size? You can use Image Processor script along with an action to make them all square in 1 simple click of the Run button (after you apply the right settings, of course.) Yes, all however many thousand images you have! We want to get this done in 1 swoop, which is possible, especially since all the images are ending up being the same size. I'm going to hold anyone's hand and do this step by step for anyone who has minimal to expert experience in photoshop. This explanation is very simple to follow.
    1: Preparation to make them square
    Heres the first step for the canvas size to be made uniform and square-y with a simple action. If you don't want square-y but still want uniform, skip this step. Let's say you want to make those thousands of pictures all 600 x 600 pixels. This is the preparation step. Make a new blank document 400 x 400 pixels. Make a new action, and name it Canvas Resize, and hit the record buton to start recording your actions. Change the canvas size to 600 x 600 pixels, and after you do that, stop the action recording. Close the document.
    2: Organize so PhotoShop can process all your photos in 1 swoop
    So we want to make everything 600 x 600. I'm using CS4, but CS3 and CS2 (and probably older versions of PS) all have a feature called Image Processor. This is the time to consolidate all the images you want to process into 1 main folder for an easy 1 click operation. Make two folders on your desktop and label one Pictures and the other Processed. You can either toss all your picture files which you want to process into the Pictures folder for a giant mess, or if you're organized, toss a bunch of organized folders into the Pictures folder, and you can keep your folder organization automatically. I'd recomming copying (NOT moving your pictures, COPYING) and organizing your pictures to be processed in the Pictures folder so that you don't potentially ruin your current organization of your photo archive. I've made my messes before moving files around and trying to figure out where I pulled them from.
    3: Now that we're organized:
    After you've consolidated your files, we will use photoshops Image Processor feature. First, click on File -> Go to Scripts -> Click Image Processor. A dialogue box will pop up with a bunch of options. Section 1 (section numbers are on the left) is "Select Images To Process."  Click the Select Folder button and find the Pictures folder on the desktop with your images in it, and select the folder. Click OK. If your images are in multiple sub-folders inside the Pictures folder, and you want to process everything in each folder, check the Include Sub-Folders box so itll process everything inside. In section 2 of the Image Processor, "Select the Location to Save Processed Images," select where your batch of images is going to be saved. Select the Processed folder for this. If you have your photos organized in a sub-folder folder structure, and want to keep that organization, check the "Keep folder structure" box so it will structure your folders inside the Processed folder the same way it was structured inside the Pictures folder.  Now for the file type. Choose whichever file type you want to save your photos as. Check "Resize to fit", and in the resolutions for width and height, put the same number in both. This will NOT stretch the images, but it will take whichever dimension is larger and scale it your specified number, and keep the aspect ratio the same! For example, say you have an 1800 x 1200 image, which is a 3:2 aspect ratio. If you type 1200 x 1200 in the dimensions, wether vertical or horizontal, it will resize the long dimension of the image to 1200, and the shorter to 800 and keep the 3:2 ratio. Cool, huh? This makes it painfully easy to do thousands of pictures overnight if you want them the same maximum dimension wether vertical or horizontal.
    Now for the magic:
    In section 4, "Preferences" in the Image Processor, you can have PS apply actions to pictures after they've been resized. Ain't that fancy? Check the Run Action box, and select the Canvas Resize action we created earlier. Since we created an action that changes the canvas size to 600 x 600 pixels, the action of making it square will be done all in 1 shot! Any picture 600 x ? will be made into 600 x 600 with whatever color you chose your background to be in recording your action. Now, click the Run button, and your computer will angrily churn all your images into perfect 600 x 600 pixel squares. All numbers I used were for expample only. Pick whatever number you want. If you want 3000 x 3000 squares, punch in 3000 x 3000, make the canvas resize action for it, and go for it!
    Anyone who reads this and tries it, let me know how easy or difficult it was to use this tutorial for you. This method is how I organize the CDs or DVDs which I submit to register my photos to the US Copyright office. I generally make a batch of 800PX JPEGs, images out of all the photos I selected to copyright, burn em, and I'm done within the hour. For my first copyright CD, I made a copyright CD for registration in less than an hour for 4 years of my photographic work.
    And P.S.: Upsizing always dulls or pixelates a photo unless you're going to take the time and enlarge each one with enlarging software, and that's a whole new batch of processing in its own. And.. yes, I wrote this whole tutorial just for this post, lol. I enjoy teaching technical knowledge. Hope this helps and whoever reads this enjoys it!

  • Need your advice on making family videos without losing quality

    I need your advice.  I don't know where to put my question because I don't know which piece of software I need (so I am posting this in a few places on the forum: sorry).  That is exactly the question, I guess.
    I have a couple of digital cameras that I use to make family videos.  They both produce .avi files.  Sometimes I use an iPhone that produces .mov files.  So after my children and grandchildren visit, I end up with a bunch of these little videos.  I want to combine them into longer videos that I can watch more conveniently on my Apple TV 2 or put on a DVD to send my kids or to my elderly mother-in-law to watch.  I know how to combine them using iMovie HD, but that process seems to radically degrade the resolution and/or image quality.  The original .avi files are 1024x768 and are very clear and sharp.  I can't watch these .avi files on my ATV2 so I've been using Quicktime Player 10.0 to open them and then save them as .mov files.  Once I import these files into iTunes, I can watch them on my ATV2 and they too look great on my tv (since they have the same resolution as the original .avi files): sharp and clear.  But after I use iMovie HD to combine them (the .avi files) into an .m4v file, they're down to 640x480, and don't look near as good.  And the DVD made from this file using iDVD looks equally bad and blocky.
    I think what I want to know is, can I change some parameters on iMovie HD to produce files that are as high quality as the original .avi and .mov files?  Or if not, what software do I need to accomplish this?  I'm not interested in "fancy" movies.  These are just home movies, but they are important to us.  Should I upgrade my iMovie to do this?  Or get Quicktime Pro?  Or what?  I'd appreciate your advice.  I'd like to keep the process as simple as possible.

    This is my workflow. I'm sure you will get a variety of opinions, but all I can say for my AVI clips, I've had excellent results for viewing on AppleTV.
    I use iMovie HD 6 for organizing the clips into short movies, 15 minutes +/-.  Clips are imported into iMovie as DV files. Once the movies are completed, I Export from iMovie as Full Quality, which results in a my-movie.dv file.
    I then open the dv file in MPEG Streamclip. There I use the MP4 and iTunes settings for screen ratio and bit rate. 4:3 for Standard Def and 16:9 for High Def. Sounds complicated, but once you open MPEG Streamclip, the settings are simple to figure out.
    The main thing to remember about quality is not to upscale your video. If the resolution is 640x480 SD, do not export higher than 640x480.
    Here are a couple of screenshots using MPEG Streamclips "Export to MP4" setting:

  • Weird Access Problems - Really Need Your Advice

    This is complex and confusing, and I am not an IT expert. Let me provide background and symptoms:
    1) I recently moved and transferred ISP providers from Cox to Adelphia.
    2 My setup consists of Mac G5, a Powerbook, and an Airport Station. The internet cable from Adelphia runs into the Airport Station. A cable then runs from the Airport Station to the G5, and the connection to the Powerbook is made via wireless. This setup worked very well when Cox was my ISP
    3) My Apple Mail client accesses mail servers at Cox, Adelphia, Gmail, and .Mac,
    4) When I made the hookup described in 2) I was no longer able to access Gmail from Safari. However, when I directly connected the Adelphia cable to the G5 (cutting the Airport out of the loop) I was able to access Gmail.
    5) Upon review from Adelphia they suggested that I make sure that there no static entries had been placed in the DHCP field. I checked the field using the Airport software and cleared the field (I am not sure if this was static entry or had been placed there by Adelphia).
    6) I hooked the computers and Airport up as in 2). Now the Gmail could be accessed from Safari. HOWEVER, now I could not access Adelphia's mail from Safari. Also I found that I could not access some the the web pages that came up as a result of Google searchs. This has never occurred before.
    7) Additionally, I found now when directly connected the G5 to the Adelphia cable I could still get Gmail, but I no longer could access .Mac from Safari.
    Note: I have gone through the same steps above using Foxfire and get similar results
    BASIC SUMMARY: 1) When Airport is in the connections cannot get access .Mac from Safari (but can access Gmail and Adelphia). 2) When the Airport is connected I cannot access Adelphia from Safari (but can access Gmail and .Mac).
    WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT???: 1) Should I reset the Airport to its original factory settings and reinstall?. 2) Should I clear out the cookies?. 3) Since these are all related to various mail accounts (Gmail, .Mac, and Adelphia) is there something that could be done with the Apple Mail client???
    Need your advice!
    Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    PLB11,
    pretty complex indeed.
    I would start by running Network Diagnostics with your standard configuration (i.e. the one with the Airport).
    In the Apple menu, select System Preferences, Network, then click on the "Assist me..." button on the bottom. That should give you two options: "Diagnostics" and "Assistant".
    Try Diagnostics first. If that doesn't solve your problem, run it again without the Airport. If the problem persists, run Assistant and set up a new configuration from scratch, using the original layout with the Airport.
    Please post back the results. Good luck!

  • I need to put an image up that looks like tv turned on

    I need to put an image up of a television and have a video of something looping
    in the center the image of the tv would be just that and a player
    would really be under the image playing the video. I am a newbiie and would b very greatful if someone would walk me through this. I prefer to be emailed here at  [email protected] rather than my email used for the forum. Replies here are greatly encouraged because i will be checking back often.

    The skin (just a graphic) is something that can be created in PhotoShop or even in Flash. It needs to be able to have a hole in it for the video to show thru, so use something like a .png graphic with a transparent background. That graphic really has nothing at all to do with the palying of the video... it's just a skin, covering over the top of the video (which is on a lower layer in Flash).
    So use your imagination! Go thru those tutorials listed and you'll be able to add the controls and loader bar. then when you are ready, you can incorporate an xml playlist if you like.
    Here is an example of a simple video player with no skin... just controls and loading bar:
    http://www.exploreolympics.com/index.html
    Here is that same basic video player with a simple graphic placed over the top of the actual video. The graphic is on a higher layer in Flash, and has a hole in it so the video will show thru. This player has an xml playlist added... so the graphic has to cover over that playlist also:
    http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/video.html
    Here is that same simple video player, different type of skin. Open the menu and click on "Trailer" and you'll see a scrolling playlist added to that same simple little vid player.
    http://www.serenityfarmthemovie.com/main18.html
    Here is the code for the simple player. Of course the playlist players have added code to build and access the playlist. But start with the simple player and build on your skill from there.
    /* Video player created by CI Digital Media for educational purposes */
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect(null);
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);

  • Need an advice in Oracle Application Server

    Dear all,
    I need your advice.....
    What I have:
    - 2 servers (Windows 2008 R2 64bit) .. planned as Application Servers
    - Oracle 11g Database installed in a server
    - forms (.fmx) , reports (.rdf) , compiled using Oracle 10g DS R2
    - Oracle 10g Developer Suit R2
    What I want:
    - Install Oracle Application Server in the 2 servers available (Windows 2008 R2)
    - make sure all (.fmx & .rdf) will work im these 2 servers
    - take advantage of the powerful servers
    What I did:
    - Install Oracle 10g AS R2 in both servers
    - configure webcache balance
    What I faced:
    - both servers worked fine except:
    - (.fmx) files cannot be cached
    - slow while opening (.fmx) files
    - AGAIN, SLOW
    ADVICE??
    - Do I need to continue using this installation OR
    - Is there any better installation & configuration that will help get (What I want:)
    Kind Regards

    Hi zzalabri,
    I know i have replied it late,
    Oracle Web Cache uses cacheability rules to store documents. These rules fall into two categories:
    1)Rules for static content, such as GIF, JPEG, or static HTML files
    2)Rules for dynamically generated content created using technologies like Java Server Pages (JSP), Active Server Pages (ASP), PL/SQL Server Pages (PSP), Java Servlets, and Common Gateway Interface (CGI).
    How can I make my server caches .fmx files using webcache (( webcache is configured already but it says "URL contains query string"))..
    The below link would be helpful for setting caching rules for Oracle Webcache
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B15904_01/caching.1012/b14046/cache.htm
    Is there any configuration for Application Server 10g R2 AFTER the fresh installation OR it works as it is ..
    The default installation is self tuned to handle a load of approximately 200 users(it depends on network as well as ur DB)
    I knew for sure what makes my server slow, that is because of background images in fmb & fmx files. when I removed them it became fast enough.
    In my environment,i used to staore all this images in gif format(images size max would be 50kb)then store all these images in a jar file and load this jar file through archive_jini(Formsweb.cfg)
    Hope this would be helpful,
    Regards

  • CMTRACE The subsystem needed to support the image is not present.

    the subsystem needed to support the image is not present.
    I have a x64 bit winpe. I am trying to add a cmtrace to a winpe. Getting an error "the subsystem needed to support the image is not present",
    i though it was related to a wrong architecture. So i added both. Still getting the same error.<o:p></o:p>
    How can i make sure one of added exe's is a true x64. And can this error be related to something esle?<o:p></o:p>
    Thank you.<o:p></o:p>

    Run cmtrace.exe on a x64 machine and leave it running...
    Launch Task Manager and find the application with the description: CMTrace_amd64.exe. IT will have a random name like TRA401A.tmp.
    Go to the %temp% folder and grab that TRA401A.tmp file, copy it to wherever and give it a unique name like CMTrace64.exe.
    Now you have the x64 version of CMTrace.exe

    There's also jimi, at http://java.sun.com/products/jimi/
    You can do something like:
    image = new BufferedImage (width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    // create your image
    String path = "/path/image.jpg";
    Jimi.putImage(image, path);
    [\code]

  • Need to print in image with good quality in multiple pages

    rinting of the image display area is to small to read on some large displays
    Need to restrict the image resizing in generating the print output to a minimum size (to allow it to be readable) and allow the printed output to flow into a multiple pages wide by multiple pages in length if necessary. Currently it is restricted to one page.
    below is the code

    Your renderer is wrong.... try this (untested):
       class myCellRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer {
         public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int col) {
            if (value!=null) {
              ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon(image);     // assuming image is defined elsewhere and is accessible
              setIcon(icon);
              setText(value.toString());
            } else {
              setIcon(null);
              setText("");
            return this;
       };o)

  • Running a PC via my Mac. Would I need a second copy of Word?

    Hello!
    So I am needing to get Windows running on my Mac for a specific PC only App called Nvivo.
    I am looking into the Fusion vs Parallel issue which both have their advantages and disadvantages. However, I need to know if I need a second copy of Word (ie a PC version) to read the information from my Mac word files then to be read by Nvivo on the PC side (for the cross-platform pollination to work)?
    Does Parallels of Fusion have a feature that makes it so only one copy of word is required? (Sounds like wishful thinking I know!)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    all Word versions are Operating System - dependent.
    An OSX Word won't work when running WIndows and vice versa.
    But maybe the free OpenOffice will suffice for your needs in Windows.

  • How do you create a disk image using Disk Copy?

    Hello,
    Is there any way you can create a disk image using Disc Copy? Is there a better way to create a Disk Image?
    I would like to burn two copies of a 4.2 gig folder on my mac. I usually insert a blank DVD-R and then the mac asks if I would like to prepare it at which point I click "yes". An icon of a DVD disk appears on the desktop and then I drag my files onto this icon. It takes a few moments to create the disc image and then I click "burn". However, after the disc is burned the disc image disappears and I have to start all over again if I want to make another copy.
    How can I save this disc image? If I could save the disc image, it would enable me to burn a second DVD right after the first without having to create the disk image all over again. This would save a lot if time.
    I am using OS 10.1.5
    Thank you for any suggestions

    Thanks Niel for the info about creating a Disk Image with the Disk Copy utility in OS 10.1.5
    That worked however when I insert a blank DVD-R, the disk image still has to be copied to the DVD-R buffer and then it can be burned. And so this doesn't really save any steps - the "copying into the buffer" step still has to occur whether or not you have created a disk image of your files. So creating a disk image doesn't really shorten the process of burning multiple copies of a DVD.
    I will try to describe the steps more clearly:
    Two of the three steps for creating a DVD (steps 2 and 3) are very time-consuming:
    1. put blank DVD into the drive (a DVD disk icon quickly appears)
    2. drag files onto this icon (this step takes a long time as the files are copied into the buffer)
    3. choose "burn" (the actual burning also takes a long time)
    I was hoping that when I create two or more DVDs of the same files, I could first create a Disk image so that when I create the second DVD, step 2 could be skipped. That does not seem to be the case - the disk image still has to be re-loaded. And so I think I will not bother with the Disk image idea - it doesn't seem to be necessary or helpful when burning DVDs to backup data.
    Thanks for your suggestion.
