Need direction..

I'm taking a database class and the book we are using is Oracle9i w/intro to PL/SQL and I'm learning quite a bit, I have the oracle personal edition on my computer and the database I work with for school stuff on my computer (its an online course) anyways, I'm getting the hang of it a bit of doing queries and learning the different clauses and what not.
But what I want to learn how to do is web queries like from a website to a database but I don't know how to get started in that direction.
any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Do I need any other software on my end? I just used the personal install for oracle9i. I've been doing a lot of searching there is just so much stuff on this site.
My questions more less boil down to do can I interact with an oracle database from a website to do like inventory queries?
if so what software do I need to make my database accessible from the net?

  • Just got a new mac book pro, need directions on how to install Office.

We just got back from a college orientation and bought our daughter a new 13 inch Macbook Pro.  We also bought Office for Mac from the college.
It has 3 DVD's with it. They all say "application media" but have a different months and year on them ( 2 have November 2010, and 1 has June 2011)
I need directions on how to install this on the computer.  Thanks!  Kelly

LibreOffice is free to use, by tens of millions in fact, didn't need to buy Office unless she is at a job that demands sharing of complicated files.
If you want save money I would take it back, Office justs come out with another and another remake which one has to keep paying over and over again.
Office type software has been donation supported for a long time now.
And it's dead easy to install, just click the link and install the package. Does everything Office does, even reads and writes to Office format.

Can't seem to find an IPAD that let's me control my playlists together...or let's me organize my videos (Karaoke) the way I want to.  Can someone help or direct me?
    Can't even find the old IPad for sale...I have a MB292LL with 4.3.2 (8H7)

  • Amatuer needing direction

I have never had an apple computer. After 20 years,I am sick of windows.
I want an apple computer to use basically as a media center, mostly for high end music storage&retrieval. I want to use apple products, accessories etc to have advantage of the " i " syncronization of all the hardware and software. I need direction.
I will also use the computer some for photos, videos, movies and the internet but want it totally separated from a computer used for personal business and work business. I want it to be a central high end home entertainment access. I would say server but in my ignorance of tech terms I fear I would be talking about a device for another use.
I do not want it needing to be upgraded in 2 years or obsolite in 3 years. I am willing to invest in what it would take to do this thing right.
I need direction as to the total package. Which base unit, Which processor(s), which and how many hard drives, memory, peripherals, programs etc. The whole ball of wax. I am hoping for advice and direction from audiophiles and videophiles knowlegeable with high end reproduction and storage and apple products and formatting. Yhank You!!

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general Mac forums. Given the complexity of your query, though, you may get more information, at least of a general nature, by doing a web search for something like "using a mac as a media center" or by visiting an Apple Store or Apple reseller.

Per recommendation from here, I am running CAT6 from DSL modem to TimeCapsule and Airport Express in separate buildings through previously buried empty conduit. Do I need direct bury CAT6 cable or, since I have 600' plus left of indoor CAT6, can I bury indoor CAT6 in conduit?

I am not sure the distance you are running.. ethernet max is 100M.. around 300 feet.
It must also be solid core not stranded.
Run a spare .. if you are only doing a single run.. put an extra run or two in the conduit.. for later!! And a string. Not that you generally have much hope of pulling another one through.. If the distance is great.. a marked access point somewhere.. in the middle.. and slope the hole down to it from both sides.. so you have a possible central drain.. because almost no matter how hard you try.. moisture gets in.

  • Newbie starting a database app need direction/suggestions

I've been mucking about with C# and SQL databases for some time now and I've decided its time to try a serious project. I want to create an application for managing on the job training at work. I have played around the last week with SQLCE and making
little experimental databases to learn more about relational databases. I have a rudimentary understanding oF RDBMS(wouldn't go so far as to say basic), I know how to do simple queries, subqueries, basic joins, and I've even played with triggers a bit (in
    MSSSEE).
I could probably make a go of this project and make something work but I figured since its a pretty basic (to an expert anyway) I'd probably be better off going to the community for direction and advice (not to get people to code for me). I've partially planned
out how to set up the database and I'd like to describe what I've come up with so more knowledgable folks can tell me if its a good or bad path to follow and perhaps point me in a better direction for the bad parts. I'd rather understand what I'm doing and
learn the proper ways than simply say "can someone write this for me?".
Anyway, I thought a lot about what this app needs to do and did a few experimental projects where I realized even more things that it needs to do. I think I have the requirements just about covered.
Some training happens only once, some (by law or policy) have to be repeated periodically, some need a subset redone due to movement of an employee from one job or facility to another where some, but not all, of the previous training needs to be redone (machinery
operator moving to a different plant with the same function but different systems would have to relearn the system specifics). Some subjects apply to all employees and others to very few.
The most basic function is to let supervisors assign training tasks to employees and track their progress but the application also needs to alert a supervisor of upcoming due dates for assigned training and upcoming re-do dates for the periodic training. In
some cases, like with mandatory periodic training, it could (should?) initiate assignment rather than wait for a supervisor to remember to assign the training manually.
The application could be set up to have every bit of training for a job class organized under that job class but I think it would be more flexible to organize around a specific skill or area of duty.
For example, an ice rink worker needs to know how to operate the refrigeration plant, operate the ice-resurfacer (generically called the Zamboni), perform emergency duties (fire, earthquake, chemical leak, etc), and several other areas of knowledge. One area/skill
would be to operate refrigeration plant, another would be Emergeny response. Each of these would be a training "topic". Many topics would be applicable to mutiple job classes which is why they are under a seperate table from books.
Each topic would be broken down into focused steps - small bite sized chunks that the employee would learn then be tested on that knowledge. As each step is completed the examiner (supervisor or "expert" in that field) marks the step as completed
and records that in the application (might be a weekly or monthly hand-in of books to record progress).
Each job would have several topics they have to know so the topics are organized in what I've ingeniously decided to call a "book" (talk about imaginative!). We have areas where a person in a job class actually has a different knowledge requirement
than the same job class in another area. There are commonalities of course but I don't think it would be good to have every person in a job class expected to complete training in something they aren't doing and in many cases will never be required to do in
    their entire career.
So a book would something like Arena Operation, Boiler Operation, WHMIS, or Emergency Response. A job class would be assigned several "books" to cover all the areas of knowledge they require.
Now to kick off thinking about actual database design.
The training definitions would be in three tables: Books, Topics, and Objectives. A book has multiple topics and a topic has multiple objectives.
The book table would have an int primary key, a title field, a longer description field (explaining the aim of the book in some way), a time to complete field (add to assignment date to get a due date), a repeatability field (The values here would indicate
a one shot, can repeat, or must repeat), and a repeat frequency field (how long before it has to be repeated - might be a date or a datediff, haven't figured that out yet).
The topics table would have an ID primary key, a title, and another longer description field for information specific to that topic.
The objectives table would had an ID primary key, a Topic foreign key, a short description, a long description, a "given" field outlining what the trainee needs and a "denied" field outlining what the trainee can't have (no drawings allowed
    when your describing a system).
Later on I want the program to be able to print shirt pocket sized booklets for trainees that contains short descriptions and larger OJT manuals that have all the details that trainees can refer to.
The next table needed would be the employees table. I think the obvious ID field, first and last name fields - possibly an initials field (in case of identical first and last names), and possibly a "deleted" field for employees that leave (don't want
to actually delete them in case they come back at some later date). If not a deleted field then a "former" employee table that an employee is copied to when they leave.
Several relations tables would be created when a book is assigned to an employee. I haven't quite figured out exactly what to use which is why I chose now to post this. Some direction from here could save a lot of headache later. The relations tables would
contain only "current" books - ones that are still in progress.
I was thinking of EmployeeBook, BookTopic, and TopicObjective.
EmployeeBook would have EmployeeID and BookID, a date field for the assigned date and another date field for the due date. I had thought of just due date or just assigned date and a time allowed but I think it might be simpler to have both dates specified.
I'd also thought of making a unique key on EmployeeID and BookID but quickly realized some books may have to be assigned many times (WHMIS etc).
BookTopics would have a primary key of BookID and TopicID - cant think of any more fields here.
TopicObjective would have TopicID and ObjectiveID as well as a status field (three values - not complete, complete, not applicable) and an examiner ID field (for who signed off on the objective).
Once a book is completed I was thinking of deleting it from the relational tables and creating an entry in an archive table - no relations, everything would be the full text so if the training data is changed it won't change the completed training records.
The indexes would be whole names and any reporting would have to be grouped by book name, topic name, etc.
So thats the general idea. I'd dearly love any suggestions or advice people have. What sounds reasonable to me might be recognized as a fool's errand by someone with actual competence in database programming. I'll work on specifics once I know I'm not running
full tilt without a flashlight down a blind alley in the dark.
Thanks for getting through the entire post 8)

    Hi Ghidera,
From my point of view, there is no need to design the BookTopic table. You can create a EmployeeID filed in the TopicObjective table, then
create a foreign key on the column EmployeeID
and reference the column EmployeeID in the EmployeeBook
table. Also you need to create foreign key relation from EmployeeBook table to Employees table and Books table.
Besides, you should create a foreign key on a column in Topics table and reference the column ID in the Books table.
    Thanks,

  • Web Dynpro question, need direction!

I need to design an application or webpage that will run from a link in an e-mail, and that will pull, display, and send some SAP R3 portal content.
I've been playing with Netweaver Developers Studio / Web Dynpro, and have made a basic application/page that "looks" as I need it to look.
I'm very new at this, so I know I need to learn a lot of things.  I need to figure out how to get my application / page to talk to R3.  The page will have a few fields displaying portal content, and then an Accept and Reject button.
Can someone point me in the right direction?  Are there any learning resources out there that would be helpful for my situation?

  • Need Direction Please

I am not a web designer by any means.  I have only completed two very basic websites to date.  I have been asked to redesign a website for a kids soccer league (non profit).  The current website is maintained by someone who is not responsive to requests for updates.  I am trying to get all of the files directly from him.  In the meantime, I am considering using Dreamweaver CC to create a fluid grid (something completely new to me).  From looking at the existing site, it does not appear that the site is setup in fluid grid and therefore not ideal for mobile phones.  If that is the case, I should start from scratch.
I am hoping someone here can guide me through some areas I am struggling with.
    The existing site is:  http://www.simiyouthsoccer.org/
Here are some of my questions:
    1. Keeping in mind that this is a nonprofit and doesn't have funds to really invest into a new website, would you start from scratch or rip what you can from the net and then update as needed?  Do you think it works sufficiently on a mobile phone?  Personally, I thought it was a little cumbersome since everything is so small.
    2.  I am new to RSS feeds.  Is this something that DreamWeaver CC can walk me through?  Or is there another resource I should consider?
    3.  The boxes on the right hand side have rounded edges and appear to be things created outside of html/css or options within Dreamweaver (maybe photoshop??)  and then RSS feeds have been embeded within the box?  Is that understanding correct?  If so, how do I replicate that?  I can create the boxes in photoshop, but then I am not sure how to get the things like the moon/sun and current temperatures to update properly.
I appreciate your patience as I ask what probably seems like amateur questions.

    <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.8.4" />
The existing site is running on an older version of Wordpress - a free CMS well-suited for non-profits.
Some people (like me) like Wordpress, others loathe it. Depends if you can get the hang of the interface and Wordpress concepts.
I personally would not use Dreamweaver for this. I would continue with the Wordpress installation and update it to the current version of Wordpress (3.9). Wordpress is free, very popular at the moment and well supported with an active developer and user community plus thousands of plugins to quickly add functionality to your website.
Then I would ditch the existing non-responsive Wordpress theme and add a modern, responsive one.
    http://themeforest.net/item/soccer-club-sports-and-events-news-theme/7219278

You'll need the Wordpress log in details to access the Wordpress admin area to make backend changes.

  • Need direction on mixing

    Hey there.
OK, so I'm really a beginner with this, please bear with me.
I'm working on a project with a half dozen vocal tracks. Some of it is complicated so there's hundreds of little takes, ie regions. What I've been doing so far is constantly changing the gain of different regions in the sample editor as I go through to try to get the right balance. I'm not touching the mixer for now since I'm worried that boosting a track might work fine in one place, but later be too loud.
So there's the first question - can you adjust levels for tracks in the mixer only for one section of a project at a time?
OK, then, I'm planning, once I get to the end of recording everything, of duplicating each track and assigning each one a left and right for panning in the mixer. Basically, I was thinking to put one voice at +10 and -10, the next at +20, -20, etc. Does this approach make sense. Is there a simpler way to achieve this same result? [question #2...]
I'd like to take a course on mixing and really learn what's possible at some point, but right now I'm in a hurry. I'm planning to use this project as backing audio for a solo vocal concert I'm doing in about a month. So my main concern is getting a good balance of the voices, a sufficiently loud enough mix, but without distortion. I'm not sure if my computer monitors are the best preview or not since this will be playing back through a PA system.
Given my level with this and the time crunch I'm in, are there any super user-friendly processes in Logic that I could turn to for a basic upgrade of the sound? [question #3...]

You really need to take a few minutes and read the section in the manual for "Automation." Everything you want to do can be accomplished with automation, and once you've grasped the concept, it's easy and quite quick.
There are two other methods that you should learn about:
Read about "Groups" in the manual, where you can lock certain tracks together where changes made to one affects any other tracks in that same group.
Finally, search this forum for "Submix" which is where you can route certain similar tracks or sections via a bus to a dedicated aux fader, so that you can automate that. This enables you to break down your mix to just a few faders for easier control. For example, when mixing a band, often all the drums will be routed to a drum submix controlled by one fader, all guitar tracks to another submix, all backing vocals to another and so on. These submixes can also be automated, so that all guitars, using my example, can have their overall level controlled for different parts of the song. This may/may not be relevant to your vocal project.
So there's the first question - can you adjust levels for tracks in the mixer only for one section of a project at a time?
Yes - any section can be automated separately from any other section, or even bypassed altogether.
OK, then, I'm planning, once I get to the end of recording everything, of duplicating each track and assigning each one a left and right for panning in the mixer.
You can do that too, but to make your vocals thicker or bigger, you need to add slight variations to your duplicated track (EQ, delay, compression etc.) so that they are slightly different which will then appear to make them sound separated in your mix. Again, via automation, you pan individual tracks wider in some sections; closer in others.
So my main concern is getting a good balance of the voices, a sufficiently loud enough mix, but without distortion
At the mixing stage, don't worry about the overall volume of your mix. You can adjust this later. Keep your individual tracks fairly low (say, in the range of -18 to -8 dbFS) and your output level set so that it peaks at around -6 dbFS. Get your balance between tracks right first.
I'm not sure if my computer monitors are the best preview or not since this will be playing back through a PA system.
They'll be fine, but once you have your mix, play it on a wide variety of systems (car, home stereo system etc). If it sounds good on most playback systems, chances are it will sound OK via a P.A. Maybe at a sound check you'll make slight adjustments to the overall EQ depending on the venue.

  • Need Directions on how to reset everything for a WRT 54g !!!

I forgot password  that I used in 2003 and followed computer's advice from tech support 800# on how to reset 54g. Now I'm looking for some dierection on how to change everything out of FACTORY default to my own info. From how to change domain name and password to setting up router for use with only a desktop and laptop. Basically everything dealing with the security of my system and the outside world. Not very computer smart but not a total idiot. Thanks Tyler D.

Hi, There are no settings on router, that are needed/can be done, for computers, printer to see each other. They will be automatically able to see each other, if you configure file and printer sharing on computers properly. And also the firewall settings on computer properly.
