Need for SYS passwords during application installs

I have been seeing more of this lately.
Developers running application installs, SIEBEL, Oracle clinical etc, need to have the install run as the user SYS.
Apparently the new application user being created needs certain read privileges on SYS owned tables.
What I have been doing is one of two things
1) When the developers run the install, I walk over and enter the SYS password myself on the pertinent application install screen. This way I don't have to share the password with them.
2) reset the SYS password and provide the temporary password to the developers during installation.
I am curious how other DBA's are handling this?
Thanks

Hi,This application has to run only the user sys? Otherwise, you can created a user and to do grant of DBA for it, Now, your explanation is very well. I don't know others solutions.
Kind regards, Bruno Reis.

I read a way on another forum to fix this problem. Right click on the setup.exe and select "Run as administrator" this should solve your problem.

I just updated to 10.8 Mountain Lion from 10.7.5.  Now I must enter my admin password each time I attempt to access my main hard drive.  How do I reverse the need for the password?  It's a real PAIN!

I'd think you have a Keychain problem (Keychain storing passwords and the likes).
When you are being asked, are you offered the checkbox, "Remember this password in my Keychain"? If so, check and see if it stops asking.

  • Invalid password during xi-installation

    Hi,
it appears an error like unvalid password. the password you specified for user <sid>adm is wrong.

    Hi,
have a look at OSS message 721548.
it explains how to change pwd in XI.
Possibly you will find a solution when going through the procedure.
    here it is:
    Symptom
You want to change the passwords of the XI service users in XI 3.0.
    Reason and Prerequisites
The XI service users that are created during the installation of XI 3.0 are subsequently created in the R/3 system and added to the exchange profile with the passwords that were set during the installation. The users are maintained in various links and transactions during the Post Installation Steps.
If you want to change the passwords, you have to change them everywhere in a consistent way.
    Solution
You must change the passwords at the following locations:
    1. Transaction SU01 in the R/3 system:
You must change the passwords for the R/3 ABAP.
    1. Exchange profile - server settings:
Call the XI exchange profile using:
                  http://<xi host>:<j2ee port> /exchangeProfile
Select the 'Connection' link and adjust the password for the XILDUSER user.
    1. Exchange profile:
You must now change the passwords in all parameters of the exchange profile to declare them to the Java applications.
To do this, start the Exchange Profile as described in section 2, and adjust the changed passwords.
    1. SLDAPICUST
In transaction SLDAPICUST, adjust the password for the XIAPPLUSER user.
    1. Transaction SM59, INTEGRATION_DIRECTORY_HMI destination:
In transaction SM59, adjust the password for the XIISUSER user in the HTTP INTEGRATION_DIRECTORY_HMI destination.
    1. SLD bridge in the J2EE Administrator Tool:
Log on to the J2EE Administrator Tool. Under "Cluster --> Server --> Services --> SLD data supplier", change the password for the relevant user.
    1. PMI Store destination in the J2EE Administrator Tool:
Log on to the J2EE Administrator Tool. Under "Cluster --> Server --> Services --> Destinations", change the password for the XIRWBUSER user in the HTTP pmistore destination.
    1. Adapter Framework Messaging Fallback User
Log on to the J2EE Administrator Tool. Using Cluster --> Server --> Services --> Adapter Framework Messaging, change the password for the corresponding users in the following parameters:
    messaging.isconfig.password
    for the user in messaging.isconfig.username
    messaging.system.eventHandler.XI.isconfig.password
    for the user in messaging.system.eventHandler.XI.isconfig.username
These parameters no longer exist as of Support Package 04. In this case, you do not need to make any changes at this point.
    1. SM59 connections for end-to-end monitoring
In SM59, adjust the user password in all connections that start with PMI*. You must adapt the connections under 'R3 connections' and 'HTTP connections for external server'.
In addition, adapt the passwords in the systems to those that indicate the SM59 connection, if this is not the XI itself.
    1. SM59 connections for GRMG monitoring
In SM59, change the user password in all connections that start with XI_GRMG*. You must adapt the connections under 'HTTP connections to R/3 systems' and under 'HTTP connections to external server'.
In addition, adapt the passwords in the systems to those that indicate the SM59 connection, if this is not the XI itself.
    1. Restart the J2EE engine.
    2. Links with sending business systems:
In addition, you must check in all sending systems whether you are using one of the service users (for example, XIAPPLUSER) to log on to the XI system and change the passwords in the relevant systems.
For this purpose, check the relevant SM59 destinations and logon data in the sending adapters.
You should also refer to the Post Installation Steps described in the XI 3.0 Installation Guide.
    Checking the service links
After you have changed the passwords, perform the checks that are described in the Installation Guide under Post Installation Activities:
    a) Checking the installation - Part 1
    b) Checking the installation - Part 2
    c) Testing the Cache Refresh
    regards
    Dirk

  • Since Virtru advertises full encryption with no need for recipient passwords, why doesn't Thunderbird do the same?

Virtru coming out with this "full encryption-no need for recipient to know a password", just clicks to affirm email address is correct. Works with Mozilla browser and email: Outlook, gmail, others.

Well, you have to ask Virtru why they don't provide an add-on for Thunderbird.
Thunderbird itself supports both cryptographically signing the message and encrypting it, based on the S/MIME. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Message_security this article] for details.

  • What patches are needed for OCS R1 singlebox Windows installation

    Hi there,
I'm trying to install OCS R1 on Windows 2000 server and I wanted to know if I need any patch to perform the installation.
I'm following the Note 221812.1 and according to it I have created email accounts as mailadmin (System Administrator) and now I should apply the patch 2606325, but I don't know if this is required for Windows. It probably is, because I skip this step and test the mail system by sending mails between the accounts already created and I get a message which says that: an error has occurred at attempting to send the message.
I don't know if this is due to the fact that I haven't applied the patch or due to something else...
    I would appreciate any help.
    Best regards,
    Jorge

I tried to check out that note of yours, i think it no longer exists, the same goes for the patch number.
Anyway from my linux install as far as the installation goes, there was no need for patches ocs installs without them. However if you want to use something like workflow for files, then you need a few patches.
Firstly you need to patch which is applied after your workflow installation - i cannot rememeber its number, but you should find it in eithr the files admin guide or files release notes for 9.0.3.
In addition to that, when you install workflow, you also need to add a few languages, which if you do not with result in your workflow/files integration failing.

  • Beginner Question - Help Needed for EJB QL Sample Application

I'm working with a group of student interns, like myself, and we've been given an assignment to work with Oracle. All of us have no training or experience with this, so we're just learning as we go.
I've been trying to run the EJB QL Sample Application (http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/java/ejb_corba/ejbql/Install.html), but I keep running into problems at step 3.
Now, we will deploy the sample application onto OC4J. Open another command prompt and go to the folder <OC4J_HOME>/j2ee/home and run the following commands one-by-one

    > java -jar admin.jar ormi://<machine_name>:<admin_port> admin <admin_pwd> -bindWebApp Ejbql ejbql-war http-web-site /ejbql
    where,
<machine_name>      Name of the machine where OC4J Server is running
<admin_port>      Admin Port on which the OC4J server listens. This value by default is 23791 unless explicitly changed by the user
<admin_pwd>      Adminstrator password to access OC4J. The default value is welcome

    George,
The Readme.html file is available with the ejbqlsample.jar downloadable (Extract and find the doc in Ejbql\docs\Readme.html) which is printable.
    Or,
If you are trying to print the file directly from OTN site, you need to set the Page-Setup Orientation to 'Landscape'.
    Hope this helps.

  • HELP NEEDED FOR MAC OS X PANTHER INSTALLATION

I'm trying to install mac os x panther (cd) on my powerbook g3 model M5343
because i keep getting a quote"unexpeted error code (exit code 0)" it happens after i agree to the license and before i select the hard drive volume to install to im hoping i can get some help
p.s mac os 9.2.2 boot and runs perfectly because im using it to post this
    Thanks again

Hello, and welcome to Apple Support Discussions!
Having noticed you've posted the same question twice, once here, as well as
    here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10875742#
that gives people two chances to see if they can get it right.
Sometimes, issues such as remaining hard disk drive free space may come
into play when trying to install extra systems, update or more apps in a HDD,
that may be part of the problem in this instance. A 10GB HDD is not adequate.
    Sure, I had an early white iBook 12" 500MHz with 576MB RAM & 10GB HDD;
for a time, it ran OK with OS 9.2.2 & Panther 10.3.9. (The OS 9.2.2 ran great.)
A lack of free space in the drive, and OS X demands for RAM along with its
automatic need to create Virtual Memory in hard drive free-space, made it run
a bit slow. A later cleaned up installation of Panther 10.3.9 without OS 9.2.2
did better; the working system plus some additional applications took 6GB.
A decent sized hard disk drive of at least 40GB capacity, and sufficient chip
RAM of as much as that computer's specifications indicate it can handle,
are both recommendations prior to an upgrade to an OS X version.
Hard disk drive format for OS X should be HFS+, not just HFS, for Panther.
The journaling should be turned on for Panther. In some cases, to do OS X
right, a new installation may be required; due to space and format issues.
To set up the hard disk drive using the booted OS X Installer's version of
Disk Utility, is the method to assure the hard drive is setup correctly; but that
would erase the content of the hard disk drive.
If the formatting is correct and there is enough free space on the drive to
initiate and complete the install, then maybe it could work without a full
new installation on an erased (disk utility option, overwrite zeros/reformat)
for awhile, at least. That old of a hard disk drive is likely at the end of service.
Presupposing the OS X 10.3.x install disc set is not from any other computer,
and knowing it should be a retail full install disc and not an upgrade-only set,
do you have the version number and information off the Panther installer discs
to share here, in case there is a discrepancy in this matter?
There are several reasons why it won't go past a certain point in the process of
installation. If there is a problem on the low-level of the hard disk drive, maybe
a sector error or damage, then the drive would need to be repaired; this may
also include the steps outlined generally above; where the drive would be wiped
and overwritten with zeros, reformatted, and so on, and be sure OS 9 Drivers
were installed if you start out with OS X install disc first, otherwise OS9 won't boot.
Some of the older computers do so well with OS 9.2.2, since it really does a lot
with very little resources; while OS X demands much more, including top quality
RAM and plenty of hard disk drive free space. The old ATA-2 HDD hardware
and a ceiling of only 512MB RAM limits that this can do.
You could probably see if the booted OS X installer's Disk Utility (accessed from
drop-down menu bar in Installer header) can use its Disk First Aid, to Repair Disk.
Could be something minor. However, now that some extra stuff is on that hard disk
drive, you should check and see how much remaining free space remains there.
This is critical and could compromise the entire operation as well as the OS 9 run.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Asked for administrator password during mavericks install

Trying to install Mavericks.  During installation, I was asked to provide my administrator password.  I've never had a password on my Mac before.   I've tried my usual suspects, but nothing works.  I'm confident I've never set up an administrator password before.  Anyone know how I can get around this--or at least give me some hints on how I can recover the password that I'm sure has never existed?

OK. Now I understand. There are certain operations that can not be done from a non-admin account if the admin account password is blank. It's been this way for quite a while, but you probably just never happened to hit on it before this.
    It's a security thing...

  • Error during application installation on my MacBook Pro

I am trying to install MasterWriter 2.0 onto my MacBook Pro without success.
    Actions Taken:
When I contacted the 3rd Party Program TechSupport, he instructed me to delete folders, however the folders were never originally installed by the program, so he had me create them. Installation still failed
He told me to try downloading the dmg file from a different browser, originally downloaded with Chrome. Tried with Firefox and Safari. Still unable to install. However, with Safari downloaded file did receive an error message related to a .jar. 3rd Party Program Tech Support said it was my computer, he couldn't help.
After searching forums, I saw that it could be a JAVA error, as the codes I received had to do with a .jar file. Made sure to perform Software Update, installed the available JAVA update, then tried to installed program. Still unable install MasterWriter.
I have an iMac, so I tried to install on that machine. Success, however, the iMac is not the computer on which I do my writing.
Up until now, all these actions were performed in OS 10.7.4.
Then, using this situation as an excuse to upgrade OS, I clean installed the OS 10.8.1 onto my MacBook Pro.
Knowing that MasterWriter uses Java, and that I need it for Visual Thesaurus (another program on my computer), I installed a version of Java 6 as I know the OS10.8.1 doesn't install JAVA by default.
Now when I try to install MasterWriter I receive this error message: An unexpected error occurred while installing "cd51.dat". 1008:17,-4.
Searching the forums led me to references about case-sensitive files and repairing permissions.
I've reparied permissions and get the following.
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Permissions differ on “usr/lib/ruby”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxr-xr-x .
    Repaired “usr/lib/ruby”
    Permissions repair complete
All this and I still can't install MasterWriter on my laptop. I'd appreciate suggestions. Thanks.

I'm afraid I've got no more help to offer.  All I can suggest is that the software may not be Mountain Lion-ready, and that you may just be encountering a different set of hurdles.  Actually, that being the case, maybe MasterWriter's technical support could offer you some help this time (ie. assuming that this is actually a diffeent problem to the original one with Lion)?
If your license permits, and you have Windows 7, maybe you could install the software onto a Boot Camp partition?  At least that way you'd get it running on your MBP.
    Hope you get it sorted.

  • Urgent.... Help Needed for Storing file in Application Server

    Hi All,
I have a requirement where in I have to save a file in Application Server.
File is of 141 Character Length, so there can be spaces left at the end.
When I am downloading the file into Application Sever and then downloading the same file from Application Server to Presentation into a notepad then the spaces at the end are truncating.
I want that the file that is generated should be of 141 character though if there may be spaces at the end.
It will be great if you can help me out in this.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Jayant Sahu.

when downloading to App server, you need to specify the LENGTH option on your TRANSFER ststement to keep fixed length.  You must also use a STRING type variable in your transfer.
    From Documentation on Transfer command:
<b>If the file was opened as a text file or a legacy text file, the trailing blank characters are deleted for all data objects, except for those of data type string. The line end marker defined when the file was opened is then added to the remaining content of the data object or to the result of the conversion, and the final result is written byte-by-byte to the file.</b>
There also used to be a problem with WS_DOWNLOAD - you had to do the following:
Maintaining Trailing spaces when downloading to PC
Before calling DOWNLOAD or WS_DOWNLOAD, do a perform SET_TRAIL_BLANKS(saplgrap) using 'X'
To set the length of each record including your blanks add this code: perform SET_FIXLEN(saplgrap) using '0' '100'
Don't think this is needed any more.

  • Advice needed for provider hosted web application - authentication and access to SharePoint document library

I haven't done SharePoint 2013 development with claims so I apologize in advance if my assumptions and questions are way out in left field.
I'm trying to understand SharePoint 2013 claims authentication for a scenario that involves:
A SharePoint provided hosted (web forms) app that will pull information and assets (e.g. PDFs) from SharePoint into the web page.
It will be a VS 2012 solution with asp.net.identity feature.
Security will be set for internal users, federated external users and forms-based external users.  Based on their security and (claim type) role it will define what information and assets that can be retrieved from SharePoint
I have looked through MSDN and other sources to understand.
This one helped with my understanding
Federated Identity for Web Applications and assumed that the general concept could be applied to forms-based identity for non-Federated external users .
    What I have now:
VS 2012 solution web forms application set to Provider Host with asp.net.identity feature and its required membership tables.
I can create new users and associate claims to the new user.
I can log in with a user from the membership tables and it will take me to a default.aspx page.  I have added code to it that displays the claims associated to a user.
For POC purposes I'd like to retrieve documents that are associated to this user from the default.aspx page.
This is where I am having trouble understanding:  Is my understand correct?
    Internal users
since they are internal on the network i am assuming that they would already have access to SharePoint and they would already be configured to what documents that they have available to them.
Federated external users & Forms authentication external users
it seems to me that the authentication for external users are separate from SharePoint authentication process.
changes to the configuration settings are necessary in SharePoint, IIS, web application.
I believe this is what i read.
claims processes (e.g. mappings) need to be set up in SharePoint
as long as external users are authenticated then things are ok b/c they would have claims associated to the user and the configuration in SharePoint takes are of the rest.
This statement bothers me because I think it's wrong.
So basically i'm stuck with if my understanding is correct: once a user is authenticated either by federated identity or asp.net.identity authentication that it should go to the provider hosted default.aspx page because the claim is authenticated and means
that it should have access to it and the SharePoint document library based on some claim property.  I could then write the calls to retrieve from a document library and SharePoint will know based on some claim property that the logged in user can only
    access certain documents.
It just sounds too good to be true and that i'm missing something in the thought process.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read.
    greenwasabi

    Hi GreenWasabi,
i agree this is an interesting topic to discuss,
as you can check from the article, you may check this example from the codeplex:http://claimsid.codeplex.com/
when i thinking regarding this topic, its looks like an environment with multiple of realms,
from what you understand, its correct that all the authentication is based from the provider, so for example i have a windows live ID and internal ID, then when i login windows live ID, it will be authenticated using windows live ID server.
here is the example for the webservice:
    http://claimsid.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Federated%20Identity%20for%20Web%20Services&referringTitle=Home
as i know, if you using this federated, i am not quite sure that you will need to go to the provider page literally, perhaps you can check this example if we are using azure:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/22309.integrating-windows-live-id-google-and-facebook-accounts-with-sharepoint-2013-white-paper.aspx

  • Which Azure services would I need for a readily developed application?

    Hello...
Sorry if there's already an somewhere on here for this... I found similar questions but all seem to be related to "building" apps on Azure. In my case, we have an already built application. So here's the deal:
    We are considering hosting our application on the cloud, so I would like some clarifications/suggestions on what the suitable option is for us on Azure. I'm not very versed on computing/network infrastructure;
I'm just doing a preliminary research to see what is out there for us.
Here's an overview of our application and needs:
Our software, among other uses, is mainly a tools & asset management system used for tracking tool history, i.e. maintenance and field use. Our clients are service provider companies of a
niche in O&G exploration. The application is...
Developed on Windows OS for Windows users.
Built using LabVIEW, and requires a run-time engine installed on the client machine.
Powered by Microsoft SQL Database (2005)
    Our Primary Needs:
Various users in a client company should be able to use the software and access data simultaneously.
Client companies should be able to access only their own data.
User-size is an upward of 6 per company (and 10 companies in the first year). Most clients are in North America, but a couple are overseas.
We (our company) should be able to update the software and database structure at will.
Development and compilation will done on a local machine.
So will the Virtual Machine suffice, or do we need other service(s) like the SQL Database?
Sorry for the lengthy message, but I hope it helps someone offer a proper option for us.  I can't find a Microsoft email anywhere, and I rather type this stuff out.
    Thanks.

    Hi Immanuel,
    Thanks for reaching out.
here is my understanding of your solution and later in the email i have put couple of possibilities to use cloud
    Understanding:
At present desktop App (written in dotnet), is available to local user, App connects to some SQL database (app connects to one / more than one db, not local to user), users have some kind of authentication mechanism that authenticates
and authorize them to use only their data from the database (not sure if its one single db with multi-tenancy or separated db for each user).
To be: This is my understanding where you want to be
    1. you want app to be deployed in cloud
Question: what is the primary reason of app to be deployed on cloud if this is a windows application, if this is security, then we can explore alternatives to deploy on cloud.
    2. You want app to connect to the SQL db deployed on SQL Azure (guessing it would be multi-tenancy), in that case you would need SQL Azure, depending on your db size and scalability
needs on db you can choose from different SQL Azure dbs (at end it comes down to cost)
    Options:
    1. Not sure if you really need the desktop app on cloud, assuming you have to have it on cloud, you would need at very basic A VM role, where you would deploy and setup the app
as a base VM, that you may replicate for different clients / users of yours. keep in mind that with VM role you are paying for uptime, even if your user is not using your app.
if you choose to use a vm from the azure provided vms then you are covered for licensing, else you would need to figure out licensing cost for OS that you put on the VM, and also
the number of VM will influence the cost of your OS licensing.
    2. Alternatively you can also explore a hybrid option where you can keep desktop app on local desktop of users but it connects to the sql azure db (this can further be put in hybrid
mode depending on your data, frequency of update to data etc.. for now it can be a pure sql azure db)
in this case you would not have to maintain much in terms of Cloud service maintenance, all you will have to keep up with is SQL Azure, backups of SQL as you would have been doing
    for regular db
    3. option 3 is to convert windows app to a web app and then put the entire solution on cloud.. that is kinda larger effort and may not be most appropriate
    at this point for you.
