NEED HELP on returning values from a method

Hello Java World,
Does anyone know how to return more then 1 value from a method..
ex.
//the following returns one value
//Person Class
private String getname()
return this.name;
how can i get two values (ex. name and occupation of person)
Thank you in advance.

Create a Class which will hold the values you want and return that object. Or return a List, or return an array, or - taking your example with the person, why don't you return the whole person object?

Remote Object - not able to get the returned value from java method

     Hi ,
I am developing one sample flex aplication that connects to the java code and displays the returned value from the
java method in flex client. Here I am able to invoke the java method but not able to collect the returned value.
lastResult is giving null . I am able to see the sysout messages in server console.
I am using flex 3.2 and blazeds server and java 1.5

You are not able to get the returned value because if you see the Remote object help you will realise you have to use result="resultfn()" and fault = "faultfn()"
In this you define what you wish to do.
More importantly in the remote object you need to define which method you wish to call using the method class like this
<mx:RemoteObject id="remoteObj" destination="sro" result="r1" fault="f1" >
     <Method name="javaMethodName" result="r2" fault="f2"/>
<mx:RemoteObject>
r2 is the function where you get the result back from java and can use it to send the alert.

The problem of return value from a method

Hi everyone:
I want return a value from following method. The basic idea is that I want use Num as a parameter to get a value from a field, therefore I can input this value into another database for the display purpose by using other classes. However I got error message when I compiled it.
"method does not return a value"
I know it is a problem, but how I can fix it? I need your help. Thanks in advance.

"select Record form Buffer ...Hopefully "form" is actually "from" in your code.
You have three points of exit from your routine, and only two return value statements.
1 -Return inside the while loop has a value.
2- Return inside the exception block (not sure that '1' would be a valid number)
3- The very end of the method, just before the last '}' does not have a return statement.
By the way, this question has nothing to do with JDBC, so another forum might be a better place to post it.

Need help getting a value from an XML column

Hi,
I need to get a value from an XML column in a table (the column is called TEST_XML). I have tried using the Select TEST_XML.value function but it always returns nulls. Could you please take a look at the following xml sample stored in the TEST_XML column
and help me with the query syntax to get the value of the Bank_Account_Number?.

Need help on returning arrays from C++ to Java

Hi all, I hava a C++ application that contains a method that will return a float array to Java. I was able to write the Java Code, the JNI code to call the C++ method and compile them successfully. However on calling the native method from Java, the data in the array returned was not what I want. Please look through my code and see what is wrong with it.
My Java Code:

public float[] Stats(int k){ //Java method to call the native method so that I can use it in a Bean for a JSP.

p = Statistics(inputKey);
return p;
For this native method, an integer is passed from Java to the native side and the native method will use this integer to generate a float array size of 4 and populate it with data and return it back to Java.
My JNI code

But i am getting junk instead like 2.53E-23, 1.402E-15 etc..
Is this a type conversion mistake?

The first thing I notice - probably not the problem - is the line defining p. There is no reason to define this as an array of size 4, because the return from the native method is going to wipe that definition, replacing it with the return value of the native method. Alternatives:
1. float[] p = null.
2. float[] p = Statistics(inputKey);
3. return Statistics(k);

Need help to set values from web.xml in a jsp class

I`m trying to get value from my web.xml file into a jsp class. The problem is that the value always retur null. My web.xml file is replaced in the WEB-INF directory where should be. Here is my web.xml

BTW, "XMLDATA" is a pseudo-column used by Oracle. I don't know if it'll ever cause any conflict but maybe you should rename your column.

Need Help to get value from MessageChoice and pass it to another MesgChoice

How to get a value from a messageChoice1 in CO into a variable. Once the messageChoice1 is selected i need to pass this variable into a VO whereClause and the page get refreshed, so that another messageChoice2 in the same page will have the values based on the messageChoice1 value.

I think you want to do a nested loop within each Item in the data provider, to pull out each child's (series1, series2, etc). "label" attribute.

I need help passing a value to a method.

Im fairly new to java.
I have this JSP that i would like to ultimately write it as a servlet. So if any one can help out with this as well, that would be great.

Capture Return Value from Contextual Events Subscriber Method

I was wondering if anyone knew whether you could capture the return value from a method exposed as a subscriber for a contextual event?
Requirement: We have 2 bounded task flows (parent-child) with the child task flow embedded as a region in a view activity in the parent task flow. Based on an action in the parent task flow we raise a contextual event which calls an application module method exposed as a data control within the child task flow. We need to be able to capture the return value from the method on the managed bean.
Example method within child task flow application module:

So here we would like to capture String value when the event is raised by the event producer (parent task flow action).
Within the Event Map on the page definition of the parent task flow view activity it is possible to set parameters to pass to the subscriber but it’s not obvious where you can capture the return value.

How to trap null return values from getters when using Method.invoke()?

Hi,
I am using Method.invoke() to access getters in an Object. I need to know which getters return a value and which return null. However, irrespective of the actual return value, I am always getting non-null return value when using Method.invoke().
Unfortunately, the API documentation of Method.invoke() does not specify how it treats null return values.
Can someone help?

I tested this using following and it worked fine:

Returning multiple values from a method

I have to return a string and int array from a method (both are only of size 5 for a total of 10) What would be considered the best manner in which to do this ?

hey here it is easy that you can return many things
what ever you want from a single method man....
you know the main thing what you have to do is.....
Just create a VECTOR or LIST object, then add all the
values what ever you want to return like string and
int array like etc...
Then make the method return type is VECTOR and after
getting the Vector you can Iterate that and you can
get all the values from that method what ever you
want....

How do you return more than one value from a method?

say I have this:

If the two values are somehow related--like a person's name and his age--define a class that has those two values as member variables--for example, Person. But only if that class and the assocation of those two quantities makes sense as an entity in your program. Don't do it just to jam to quantities into one return.
Or, if the two values are two of the same thing--person A's age and person B's age--then you can return an array or Collection.
If it doesn't fit either of those two scenarios, then your method is trying to do too much unrelated stuff and you should break it into multiple methods. For example, calculating a Person's age based on his birthdate and today's date and calculating his Body Mass Index based on his height and weight. Those two quantities should NOT be returned together.

How do I get (in c) a method return value from the java side?

Returning Values from Methods

We ran across some code in one of our classes that calls a private method. That method returns an object, but the code calling that method does not capture it. What happens to the return value in a case like this? I would have thought that to be a syntax error.
Example:
