Need help with installing my Pioneer external USB DVD/CD drive into G4

Recently I bought the Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Home and Student Edition DVD-ROM on my Dad's birthday for his G4 (OX Tiger), only to be reminded that the G4 only has a CD/RW drive! So I surfed amazon.com and got a Pioneer External USB 2.0 DVD/CD writer for dad, since all the customer reviews said the writer works on both PCs and Macs. But when my dad plugged the DVD writer into his G4, the Mac is not recognizing the writer. Anybody has any idea what is going on? Is there anything my dad can do? Many thanks!

Allen,
It's unlikely that anyone would have exact information about this. I have a 1.33 12" taken apart but no 1.07. However looking at the exploded views the LVDS cable is:
"LVDS Cable
922-6368
922-6432 (SS)"
For both the 1.33 and the 1.07 14"ers
That's even tho' the LCD panels are different designations.
Email me for more info.

Installing Elements 11 on Mac 10.8.2. Need help with install error:  Setup wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this."  After entering Adobe password, nothing happens.  Locked from further installation.  Any ideas?  Adobe phone support could not help.

Just before letting changes (installation in this case) be made on the system, Mac OS prompts for password & this has to be the Mac system password. This password prompt is the system's own native prompt & would accept the system password only. Please make sure it is the right system password (all/admin rights) and the installaion should run.

  • Need help with Installing Canon LBP 2900B on Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8

I know this is going to sound silly, but really need help with this, URGENTLY!!!
Bought a Canon LBP2900B printer more than a year ago, and was using it on my MacBook Pro with OSX Snow Leopard (10.6.8) very well. My hard disk recently crashed and now I cannot reinstall the printer, nor can I find the driver for it anywhere for the Mac.
Have searched all the forums and followed all discussion threads on the Apple Communities as well, but none of the solutions seem to work. Even went back to @Dexter's solution with trying to download the file from the link http://boolet.free.fr/CAPT.zip (this is what I had done when I bought the printer, and it worked perfectly) but the link doesn't exist anymore.
Extremely grateful if anyone can put up a solution to this, or alternatively, IF ANYONE HAS THE OLD CAPT.ZIP FILE AND CAN UPLOAD IT.
Thanks in advance. Look forward to your solutions.
    Cheers

Depends on how the partitons are arranged. If they're exactly as quoted, then yes.
Open Disk Utility and select the partition tab.
In the diagram, the top partition needs to be the one you're booted from, and partition 2 the middle one.
Select Partiton 2 so that it's highlighted, and click the '-' button below the diagram.
Drag the bottom right corner of partition 1 down to meet partition 3.

  • Problems Installing Win7 using External, USB DVD Drive

I have a mid 2010 15" i7 MBP which I upgraded to from 4GB to 8GB RAM courtesy of OWC.  I recently upgraded the 500GB 7200RPM HD with a 240GB OCZ Vertex 3 and using an OWC Data Doubler, I replaced the DVD SuperDrive with the 500GB Hard Drive.
I used an External USB DVD Drive to install OS X SL On the SSD without issues. Also, I got all my updates and software installed and working without any problems.
I've been running great for about 2 weeks now, so I decided to install Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I ran Boot Camp Assistant and partitioned the 240GB SSD in half 120/120. Everything went fine with creating the partition. I selected to Install from the Win 7 DVD media in the USB DVD drive and rebooted.  I got a grey screen.  I turned the computer off and turned it back on.  Holding down Option, I selected the Install DVD from the Boot Menu.  I then got a screen with the Apple Logo flashing intermittently with a Circle/Cross Hatch.  So I can't get the Windows Install to start to save my life.  I know the External, USB DVD works since I used it to install OS X and I have no problems using it in OS X.  I Know the media works because I tried a test install, without activation in a VMWare Fusion VM.
    Any suggestions are appreciated?

So here is the answer.  The Firmware on the MacBook Pro only supports installation of OS X from External Media and will not install operating systems from 3rd Parties.  I tried to install Windows XP, Win7 Ultimate  32 & 64bit, and Ubuntu 11.04 but no success.
Supposedly, the MacBook Air does support installation of 3rd party operating systems from external media, but I have no way to confirm this.
I ended up reinstalling the internal DVD drive installing Win 7 and Ubuntu on the SSD.  Using rEFI, I'm able to triple boot all 3 operating systems.  Then removed the drive again and reinstalled the 2nd HD. Everything seems to be working fine.
I'm looking for someone who has experience in Mac EFI Hacking to see if there is a way to enable booting 3rd Party OSes from external media.  I'm guessing someone could examine the MBA firmware and figure out how to hack that capability into the MBP.

  • Need help with install....installing to USB then over to Mini

I'm trying not to screw up my 10.4 setup and was thinking of installing 10.5 to a USB hard drive, getting it setup, boot from it, then moving the installation to my Mini. Any potential problems here? (running PPC Mini). My main question has to do with moving the file system from the USB drive to the Mini....what's the best way to do this? Rsync? Restore? DD?
    Any other options?
    Thanks!

I plugged in my USB drive to my mini (it's a PPC) and it can't see the drive as a startup disk. Any thoughts?
That's normal on a PowerPC Mac. You need to use a method which doesn't require using the USB drive to boot the Mac. A bootable backup located on it needs to be restored to the internal or a FireWire drive first; the Disk Utility from a Mac OS X install DVD can do this.

  • I need help re-installing my OS on a new hard drive. Having MAJOR issues with this simple task.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2009) I recently needed to get a new hard drive for it, the old one stopped working. It came with OS X Snow Leopard already installed from Apple, and it also came with the install disks. I have booted up using the install disks and put OS X Snow Leopard back on the computer.
I tried booting with a USB install disk of OS X Lion (10.7) but had no luck on multiple occasions. It would only get through the initial step of the install and then say it couldn't download additional components needed for OS X
So finally, I decided to try a full erase and reformat of my brand new hard drive (less than a week old) and stated with the basic software that came with the computer. Installing that worked fine, until I tried to do a software update through the built in program. My computer refused to download 10.6.8 from the apple servers, so I had to find it on a 3rd party website. Once I found it and downloaded it, I finally got it installed. There were 12 more updates after I did 10.6.8 and none of them worked when I tried downloading and installing as a group. I had to do each one individually, the last one being a security update.
Up to this point, the Mac App Store didn't work (even after the 10.6.8 update), I couldn't download any of my previous purchases. I needed to download lion, to see if having it on the Mac hard drive itself would help with the install, but I couldn't do that until after the security update.
Other than that, the Mac worked normally except for during each start up, the apple logo would flash along with the forbidden sign and the folder with a question mark on it. It flashed for a few seconds randomly, then would boot up normally or say that my computer would need to be restarted.i figured this issue would be fixed after I successfully installed lion.
FINALLY I got the App Store to download lion, and began the install process. Halfway through the install, it failed and when I tried to restart the computer, it continuously flashes through those three symbols at startup. I can't get it to do anything else. I'm so ****** off I'm ready to just sell it for parts.
    My questions are:
          1. Can I install OS X Lion OR OS X Mountain Lion clean from the start after a full format of the hard drive?
          2. How do I go about installing clean and get my computer to stop flashing those symbols during start up?
*I have performed the Apple Hardware extended test and all systems are reporting normal function*

Okay, so, fast forward from July to now -
    - I've visited my closest Apple store's genius bar twice now. (Over an hour and a half away.)
    - My computer spent at least 8 hours behind their closed doors in the workshop
    - Several complete erases of the harddrive have taken place
    - Most of the Apple geniuses I dealt with were nice and very knowledgeable, but they were and still aren't 100% sure exactly what is wrong with my computer.
    The good news is:
    - They were able to at least get it running again, with a clean install from their servers of OS X Lion 10.7.5
    - They believe that my problems stem from either 1 of 2 things:
            - Faulty Hard Drive (even though it is brand new)
             - The wrong build of software being installed.
Now, while the wrong build does seem like it could be the problem, it doesn't make sense in the aspect that all of the initial problems began when the first hard drive failed. The same problems continued when I changed out the failed hard drive with the brand spanking new one, and only slightly improved when I was able to successfully install the OS that came with the original disks for my computer. I'm not convinced this thing is back to normal, but hopefully I can make it last through getting a shiny new retina Macbook Pro in the coming future. Thank you so much to everyone who read and replied to this post!

  • Need help with iMovie storage on external Hard drive

Is there any external HD that is fast enough to run iMovie? I just bought an 80gig ext. hard drive trying to solve that nasty memory problem that iMovie HD has... Well iMovie will not run because it's not fast enough, and the video clips play slow and choppy.. My question is does anyone know of a brand type or speed of ext. hd that is fast enough.. HELP!!! I need to finish this video pronto!
    Thanks
ps.. the HD i bought was an iomega 80gig HD with usb 2 and 7200 rpm

Eric, for a few dollars/Euros more (..or whatever your currency is..) you could buy a FireWire enclosure ..that's just a box with a socket or two on the back. It's not a drive, but just a box to put the disc drive inside, and it's complete with FireWire connections.
Then unscrew the Iomega 80GB USB box, remove the 7200rpm 80GB disc drive, and insert it into the FireWire box, and connect up the multi-pin connector and power connector between the FW box and the hard drive. Connecting the drive is pretty simple. Look at "Mounting the drive into the bay", about halfway down this page.
Hey Presto! ..You've now got a working 80GB 7200rpm drive ..plenty fast enough for iMovie.. which can be connected to your iMac via FireWire!
Your disc drive is fast enough ..it's just your USB connection which is too slow; so just change the way that your drive is attached to the Mac, so that it uses FireWire.
Suitable boxes are this kind of thing.
It's simple: I have half a dozen assorted drives I've slotted into new bare-bones 'enclosures', and they all work fine by just plugging the enclosure (box) into a Mac FireWire port.
    Quick 'n' simple, and cheap!
NOTE: Open up your Iomega box first, so that you can check what size of drive is inside, and thus what size of FireWire enclosure you need. A small 2.5" drive will certainly fit into a 5" enclosure, but a 5" drive obviously won't fit in a 2.5" enclosure! Though something like a WiebeTech DriveDock ..or the bigger and pricier ComboDock.. are open-ended, so they'll take any physical size of drive.

  • Need help with installing Windows XP on Satellite A60

I have toshiba satellite A60 and I need to know steps of reformatting the hard drive and installing Winxp. what do i need and how?
also..how can i save all the files and emails on Microsoft outlook? i'm not well experienced with this.

    Hi,
the installation of XP is very simple. You just have to put the CD in and start the installation, the installation wizard is guiding you through the whole process. A little advice: when it comes to partition the drive, you should delete the old partition, create a new one and format it with ntfs. Dont worry the installation wizard will guide you very detailed trough that process so it will go very easily.
    Regarding your backup:
Thats my way to backup my files:
I have a external USB-HDD drive and I put all my files on it so I can copy them back after I install a new system. To save your outlook you can check this site:
    http://www.sitedeveloper.ws/tutorials/outlook.htm
They describe very nice how to backup you outlook.
    Good luck

  • Need help with installing drivers

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional and have been having trouble with installing the drivers necessary for sound, USB, graphics, etc. I have the Windows drivers on an external drive, but the OS won't recognize an external drive because it needs the drivers to do so. My Macbook came with OS X 10.6 installed, but I have since upgraded to 10.7 through the App Store. I believe I can use my 10.6 factory DVD to install drivers on the Windows side, but if I have 10.7 installed, will it work right? I'm confused

IME driver is one of the very most important. TPM is only needed if you plan on using it. If you don't know what it is, then probably don't need it.
    Quote
Please tell me in detail what drivers do what functions and which ones need to install ?
Most of them are pretty self explanatory. Unless you set the SATA controller to AHCI mode when the OS was installed, RST isn't going to do much.
Like Henry said. Everything is on the install disc that came with the mainboard you need, including the ones you don't need. It's even got a 'total install' selection.

  • Need help with installing Yahoo style flash menu CS5

I downloaded the Yahoo style menu bar from the the available widgets.  I got the menu bar to show in Dreamweaver, but need help:
I have trouble understanding how to use the f-source  flash editor to edit the links.
I don't seem to be able to drop the  f-source.com button from the menu bar.
The bar  shows up as a tiny bar in IE8, not as I had programmed it in the widget programmer.
I was instructed to Insert ==> f-source menus ==> Edit menu in Dreamweaver.  Doing this leads to the following message: "Install at least one f-source menu'.  I did install the f-source-UI G file in the Adobe Extension Manager CS5.  What else needs to be installed?
My OS is Windows7 and I am working with Dreamweaver CS5.  Please help.
    Thanks,
    Tony Uythoven

Flash menus (Flash navigation, period) is a terrible thing from a functional standpoint. It looks really nice, but the honeymoon ends there. As far as SEO goes, your entire site, beyond the landing page, is invisible. A search robot will only see an embeded Flash object.
You have to ask yourself a basic question.
    1. What is the purpose of building a website and putting it online?
If it's for your own personal enjoyment and nothing more, then a Flash menu may be for you. If it's for a business or band, or a political group or social group, and you want people to be able to find it in Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. then you want as many indexible links as possible on your landing page so they will show up in related searches like schedules, articles, galleries, etc.

  • Need help with pictures on an external HDD and windows labtop to Ipad3

    Hallo everybody!
This week (I finally) bought an Ipad 3 and an Apple TV!
For the time being I still have a windows labtop and an external HDD full with photo's.
The ICloud software for windows has been installed because I would like to stream the pictures from this external HDD to my Ipad and then ofcourse on my flatscreen TV (via Apple TV). And ofcourse back, when I have taken a photo or a movie on the Ipad 3.
I would appreciate some help with the following questions:
do I have add all pictures from the HDD into a new map on the windows labtop. So that via Icloud the contain could become 'in the cloud'.
or do I have to add all the pictures from the HDD into the Itunes map on the windows labtop.
I have connected the Ipad to the windows labtop and via Itunes I have synchroniced a lot of pictures to the Ipad. I asume these are copies? And is it possible to remove them from the Ipad, because it will take a lot of memory (currently already 35 GB from the 64 GB).
Well I hope somebody could help me.
    Many thanks in advance!
    Ronald from the Netherland

I just found out that ICloud isen't really a storage place for photo's. Just a passing throw station to your other devices.

  • Need help with installing Ubuntu on Lenovo Ideapad Z500.

I just bought a new Lenovo Ideapad Z500 yesterday. It came with Windows 8 pre-installed. Now, I also want to install Ubuntu over it. The disk is partitioned as follows:
    Disk C: - 880 GB (approx)
Disk D: - 30 GB (approx) (I don't remember exact partition, as my laptop is currently at my home).
Then I thought, I would better re-partition the C drive into 1 or 2 small drives. So, I shrinked the C drive by going into "Disk Management", and then created 3 more partitions - 240 GB * 2, 300 GB * 1, and left the C drive with 100 GB space. I didn't modified the D drive.
Till then I didn't went through any infomation over internet. But, now when I went through this forum, I found out that my OKR won't work now, that I still have to confirm when I go home. So, now I'm worried. I scanned through so many post here, and no where found a way to install Ubuntu on Ideapad Z500.
I also read that it will be possible to run OKR, if I can re-store the partition to it's original. I think this can be done, since I just have to remove the volume I created, and allocate the memory back to C drive. And it will be back to original state, as I didn't modify D drive (correct me if am wrong, or if it can't happen).
So, the major question that I want to ask is, is there no way to partition my disk, and install Ubuntu in one of them.

    hi rohitjain-rj,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
On a Z400 Touch running on Windows 8 preload, shrinking the the C-Drive under Disk Management and creating multiple partitions on the unallocated space and then reverting the partition back to original made the One Key Recovery work as normal - haven't tested this yet on the Z500 as there's no available unit but chances are, it may also work.
In installing Ubuntu, have you tried to install Ubuntu via Wubi ?
If Ubuntu doesn't start, boot into the BIOS (press the OKR button > select BIOS Setup Utility) and set the following:
    Boot Tab
    Boot Mode - Legacy Support
    Boot Priority - Legacy First
    Exit Tab
OS Optimized Defaults - Other OS
    Regards.

  • Need help with installing old version of firmware

I would like to revert to an old version of firmware for my Airport Extreme base station. I have read in a number of postings that this would possibly help with the problem of my Canon Pixma ip3000 not working after the firmware was usdated. When I tried to install the old firmware, the Installer would not allow it, there was just a message that the software was up to date. Could anyone please give a step by step description of how this can be done? Is there a way around the Installer? Thanks.

The firmware supplied with the base station was 4.1. After installing it, everything worked just fine, including wireless printing to a Canon Pixma ip3000. At one point, after being prompted by a message onscreen to upgrade to 4.2, I did the download and installation, and that is when all the problems started. No wireless printing, and I can't seem to use the Airport Admin or Assistant (not responding). Since then I have also upgraded the OS to 10.4.5.
I am trying to downgrade to 4.1 since that is what worked initially and what was suggested in another posting I read.
I did look at the information for the various parts of Airport and noticed that the Setup Asistant is 4.2, the Admin Utility is 4.2 and the base station is 5.5.1. Could this be affecting the problem as well?
I will try downgrading using the link you provided. Thanks very much.
