Need i-Phone sync advice.

Can I have sync my i-phone to two different computers, at work and home?

I believe Apple's position is that you can only sync an iPhone to one computer. In practice, however, you can sync to more than one computer *if you're syncing different types of info.* For example, my iPhone syncs to my iMac for iTunes media and to my work PC for calendars and contacts.
If you try to sync iTunes media from the second computer, it deletes all iTunes media from the first computer and replaces it with the media from PC #2 (i.e., you can't use an iPhone to move iTunes media from one computer to the next). A few people have reported success in keeping calendars & contacts in sync between two computers and the iPhone, but that did not work for me.
Just to give you an idea on my sync frequency: I average once a day sync'ing with the work PC (although it can be several times a day) and a couple times a week with the iMac.

Syncing your phones to the same iCloud account won't cause them to both ring all the time, it only puts the same contacts, calendars, and other synced data on the phone.  The phones will only ring with someone calls the number associated with the phone.
If you want to stop using iCloud on one or both of the phones, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then choose Keep On My iPhone when prompted.  This will disconnect them from iCloud and keep a copy of the synced data on the phone.

  • HT1296 need steps to sync my I phone contactsa and calendar to outlook 2010

Need steps to sync my I phoneb 5 contacts and calendar to my windows 7 pro, outlook 2010

You sync contacts & calendars through iTunes to supported applications on your computer. You select such on the "Info" pane, in iTunes, while your phone is connected. Before doing so, make sure the supported applications on your computer are not empty...make sure there is at least one unique entry in each. This will generate a merge or replace prompt when you do sync, select merge. Never sync to an empty application on your computer, doing so will erase the data on your phone.
Regarding your mail account, actual emails are not synced through iTunes. Whether your emails are kept in sync or not is determined by the type of mail account you have. Only an IMAP or Exchange account can be kept in sync, not possible with a POP account.

  • New i Phone operator advice

This is not a question, it's advice from a fairly new user to all new users. Before asking operational questions here you should go to youtube and do a search for iPhone tutorials. I found many FREE iphone tutorial series (One series had 8 complete lessons) where I think 90% if not ALL of your operational questions can be answered. Youtube, search - iPhone tutorials = GREAT and complete iPhone operational information!!!

I solved my problem with new i phone not wanting to sync with i tunes on p.c. I was using a generic brand usb cable, and not the original one i recieved from apple.I swapped-out the no brand name usb for the original apple brand usb cable, and my I phone synced flawlessly,i'm so happy.the onle change i had to make to my info was my i phone needed to be checked as new,and not the original in the i tunes phone info./recognition starting stage of i tunes sync.it was all a result of generic usb,non apple brand usb cable, how simple,go figure....

  • HT1386 I need to backup/sync my husbands iphone for the second time only.  He does not want to get my contacts from my outlook contacts.  How do I prevent this from happening?

I need to backup/sync my husband's iphone.  How do I do this without connecting to my outlook contacts?  The phone starts syncing immediately upon plug in.  How do I stop that?

Are both using the same email address for Contacts?
Settings---> Mail, Contacts, Calendars---> Accounts (select the account that you have Contacts clicked on)
Then on the MBP, make sure that the Contacts is using the same email address. Idk where to go for that at the moment.
This doesn't have to be your AppleID. But they both have to match.

    HI,
In effect this is a DNS block.
    You can do it.
You need to be in an Admin Mac User Account that has  non blank password.
Go to the Applications/Utilities folder and open Terminal.
You should see your shortname (the one under the Little House icon) followed by the $ symbol
Copy and paste the bold text below into Terminal after the $ symbol.
    sudo pico /etc/hosts
This will load the file "hosts" into and editor that works in Terminal.
Use the arrow keys to get to the line with Verisign in it.
Now type the # symbol and it will be added in front of the character that is highlighted.
The # symbol is either Shift +3 or ALT+ 3 depending on your keyboard layout
Now use CTRL and O keys together.
    This Saves the changes.
    Quit Terminal.

  • HT1688 my iphone is not syncing to my computer  'failed to sync'  it syncd 30min ago but did not transfer my photos to my computer.  help  i need a successful sync and my photos to transfer to my computer

my iphone sync'd and failed transfer photos to my computer.  i have not been able to complete a successful sync since 30 min ago.  i need a successful sync in which my photos will transfer to my computer  help please

Syncing is used to transfer photos FROM THE PC TO THE IPHONE. Syncing will not transfer photos from the iPhone to the computer.
To copy photos from the iPhone to the computer connect your iPhone to the computer and start what ever image capture or camera application you might have on your computer. Your iPhone should be recognized as a camera and allow the application to copy photos from the Camera Roll on your iPad to the computer. You also have the option to keep the photos on the iPhone or delete them. Choose widely.
Once the photos are on your computer you can organize them into albums. Once you do that you can sync the albums you want back to your iPhone. They will be kept in albums on the phone and not in the Camera Roll.

  • Keeping 2 phones synced together

    Hi there,
I have a 3G iPhone that I want to keep as my "backup" phone, just in case something "happens" to my 3GS. Is there an EASY way to keep both phones synced together so that the data on both is exactly the same?
I dont have exchange, so thats a no-go and I dont want to have to constantly be "backing up" and "restoring from backup" to sync call's, SMS's and such.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Aaron

Keep making normal backups of your new phone. Don't let pictures accumulate in the camera roll. Download them to your computer and sync the ones you want on your phone to the phone's photo album. Backups don't include the camera roll.
If you ever need to use the old phone, disable automatic syncing using this procedure when connecting the old phone to iTunes: "Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar. "
When the phone appears in iTunes, select the summary tab and select "Restore". When iTunes offers to make a backup, select the "Don't Back Up" option. After the Restore is complete, Tunes will present the "Set Up Your iPhone" dialog. Select the "restore from a backup of " option and select the latest backup for your new phone from the list.
Information such as mail settings, text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, sound settings, widget settings, certain network settings, and other preferences including settings and data from third-party applications purchased from the App Store will be restored from the backup. Your info data (contacts, calendars, Safari bookmarks), music, videos, and applications will be reloaded by iTunes as they were before the restore. However, the applications will not be in the same order.
Read this article to help make sense of this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
This procedure will allow you to essentially "clone" your new phone onto the backup one without constantly syncing it. At most, you will lose the info after your last sync/backup of the new phone.

Some phones that can't sync natively with OS X might be able to with software such as "The Missing Sync": http://www.markspace.com/ .

  • Need Help Transferring/Syncing Contacts TO PC

I feel like I have searched everywhere for a solution but haven't found one.  I am ultimately trying to export my contacts on my iphone 4 to an excel format. If I can do this directly, excellent.  If it's a 2-step process, fine.
I did see that I can sync my contacts from my phone to my Windows Address Book (WAB). I tried that using iTunes (Info, Sync Contacts with "Windows Contacts" and apply), but when I went to my contacts folder in windows, the only contact I saw was a contact file for the username on my computer. Every other topic I've read says that this should work, but obviously in my case it's not.
I do not have outlook or manage my phone contacts in any other application, just my phone.
Am I doing something wrong, can anyone help me out? Thank you in advance.
    Here's my specs:
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    iTunes version 10.5.1.42
    iPhone 4
    iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

Itunes is on but does not have anything refering to "equipment" as for back up the phone syncs everytime its conected to my laptop

My iphone is no longer working I have black screen with a picture of the itunes logo and a USB cable.  When I try to connect my iphone to itunes the device is not detected, can anyone help me? I desperatley need my phone back

I have had a 3GS for 2+ years.  After upgrading to IOS 4 (now 4.3.5) I began having problems.  In the past week, my screen went to the itunes logo and USB cable twice -- unprovoked -- just found it sitting there like that!  I connected to itunes and it did restore from a backup but it is a major inconvenience.  I am also searching for answers, but better back-up regularly!

  • HT1476 My iPhone wont charge anymore, at first it would.. But now it won't even show that its charging.. Why is it doing that? And how can I fix it? I need my phone, and i can't replace it or anything like that... :/

I really need my phone, it hardly ever gives me any trouble. This is pretty much the first time.. I hope any of you can help me. It would mean everything to me.

    Try a different cable.
    Try a different charger.
Try a different USB port on your computer.
    Try restoring it using iTunes.
