Need left cell padding in tables

Does anyone know how to add left padding to table cells so
the text does not jam into the left table ruling?
I have padding specified in all my table formats, but all the
resulting tables have no left cell padding.
I tried adding extra padding to the paragraph tag in the
Table Cell tab of the Paragraph Designer: no luck.
Of course, I do NOT want to hand edit all my tables in
RoboHelp.
This is strictly a single-source project.
Outside of that, the tables are coming through pretty nicely.
But that crammed look kind of spoils things.

Thanks Jain.
I can see by your reply that I
cannot fix the problem by:
- editing table, row, or cell formats in CSS.
- Or adding padding in the Table Designer in FrameMaker.
- Or adding extra cell margin in Paragraph Designer/ Table
Cell tab.
Solution:
Design a special FM template for RoboHelp.
Import this template into FrameMaker before moving the files
into RoboHelp.
In the Framemaker template for RoboHelp, the FrameMaker
cellbody paragraph tag formats have extra First and Left indents
(.081in.) added in the Basic tab of FrameMaker's Paragraph
Designer.
Once the files are in Robohelp, in RoboHelp Style
Settings/Style Mappings,
I leave the cellbody styles as Source (no mapping to
RoboHelp).
Note about the special FM template.
It does not very long to design (maybe an hour).
It is very simple to import into FrameMaker (couple seconds).
I can edit all my paragraph tags, character tags, and table
styles at once
(for instance, body text uses a san-serif font).
Then, in RoboHelp's Settings/Style Mappings I leave the
styles as [Source].
Only one last detail for my tables,
Cheryl B in Las Vegas's unanswered posting, "vertical
alignment in tables"
RoboHelp's "center" setting of the vertical alignment of
table cell text looks funky.
We need "Top".
Any fix, in the future, maybe?

  • How can I use the property 'top left visible cell' in a table?

    Hi! I use a table in my program and I want to show the top left cell of the table every time when the user clicks a button .I don't know how to do this. If I use a multicolumnListbox I can select the property 'top left visivle cell'. Is it possible with a table ?
    Thanks for any help.

    Yes, it's possible - use the "index value" property to set top-left cell for arrays and tables. See example attached.

  • Cell padding

    The Adobe help site is down so I cannot look this up in "the manual" for assistance.
    Where do I find the tools to set my cell padding in tables in DW?  My text is too close to the table cell border to be clearly read, but I cannot figure out how to add spacing within the cells.
    Any assistance will be GREATLY appreciated!

    To get the properties window to update where you need it to be you either need to click in the top left corner of the table so your mouse turns into a pointer with a 4-square box
    or click the <table> tag in the tag selector (located between the bottom of Design View and the top of the Property Inspector)

  • How Do I Change the Padding in Table Cells

    Hi, I am trying to set up a table that will allow text to fill the entire cell. I know that if I double click an individual cell, the left and right boundaries of the cell will be displayed on the ruler. However, I can't select multiple cells (even in a column) to adjust the boundaries. By default, all cells are created with no padding on the left, but half an inch on the right. I want no padding on the right as well. I know I can change the the tab for the table with the text inspector, after the fact.
    So, #1. How can I change the default right cell wrap for all cells in a table?
    Additionally, I know how to get rid of the padding above the text (via text property "instant margins"), but I also need to eliminate the padding at the bottom of the text. When I adjust the instant margin, it just moves the text the upper-left corner of the cell, but does not change the vertical size of the cell. I can change the individual row height by grabbing the border and dragging it up, but, again, this is a pain for large table. I know I can also change the overall cell height by dragging the lower table boundary.
    #2. How do I change the default cell height so the cell is tight against the text, regardless of the font size, for all cells in a table?
    Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gary

    Thanks for the reply.
    Unfortunately, those options will not do what I need.
    If I turn off "Wrap text", the text overflows the cell and the text in the adjacent cell to the right will hidden. I still want the text to wrap, just not half an inch from the right border.
    And the "Resize to fit" changes the cell width, which I want to keep the cell at a static width.
    One workaround I found, was to modify the table as needed, using text properties, and then save the table as the table default. Unfortunately, that overwrites the factory default, and new table's tabs in other templates (all other properties seem to be retained)
    The second option that seems to work, is to save my entire document as a template. That seems to hold all the properties for graphics, tables, etc.
    A bit kludgy, but those methods seem to do the trick.
    Now, how do I get the default table properties back?

    As far as I know, Apple is free to choose to offer this or that feature.
    They never said that they want to clone Word or even compete with it.
    Differences between tables in both worlds are numerous.
    In Pages (or Numbers)
    - we can't sort a single column
    - we can't sort by row
    - we can't insert or remove a single cell
    - a cell can't cross pages boundaries

  • Spry menu bar changed since I tried to split cells in a table! Help!

    I am VERY new to web design, so I apologize in advance for being ignorant.  I am trying to learn!
    I had inserted a spry menu bar that looked fine and even tested fine!
    I subsequently tried to split a section of my table in the web page in order to have 3 columns of centered text.  The first time I did this, the spry menu bar became vertical even though it is listed as horizontal.  I looked up a forum answer, copied the code from the suggestion, and that seemed to fix the problem (although I still don't know what EXACTLY happened)
    I tried to split the table again (I had undone everything prior to this), only this time, the spry menu bar is located outside the page in the left hand corner where my background (I have a wrapper) is.  I tried opening another page where I already had a nice spry menu bar, and it did the same thing!! This makes me think it is the CSS sheet for the menu bar that was modified somehow when I split the table.  I'm pasting the CSS here below, so if anyone sees any issues that might cause this problem, please let me know!! I have been working for the most part in design view, and haven't really modified the code other than to put a wrapper in and a facebook like button, which I've now lost in the slitting cells catastrophe.  Thanks in advance!!!

    Well, I took a picture of my dreamweaver screen, so you can see what I am looking at...
    You can see that the spry menu bar shows up in the top left corner in my design view, but on the website, it is located in the correct place! Maybe it is a Dreamweaver problem??? This happened when I tried to split the cell underneath the section that says "Let NOLA Scribes help you!" into 5 cells so that I could insert 5 differnet pictures and captions. Now, when I open the other linked pages in Dreamweaver, it does the same thing! I'm using an older version of Dreamweaver, but from what I read, that shouldn't be an issue.  Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Cell Padding in SQL Report Region

    I have what I hope is a simple question.
    I have a SQL Report region and I want to add more padding to the left and right sides of the table cell.  I don't want to change the style sheet because I don't want to affect other pages.  But I tried adding style attributes on the "Region HTML table cell attributes" field but I still can't get it to work.
    Can anyone give me an example of how I can do this?

    I have what I hope is a simple question.
    I have a SQL Report region and I want to add more padding to the left and right sides of the table cell.
    "The table cell"? A single, specific cell within the report? All cells in a specific column or row? All cells in this report? Or do you mean padding around the entire report table?
    I don't want to change the style sheet because I don't want to affect other pages.
    Create a page-specific style sheet using the Inline page CSS attribute (in 4.2) or a style element in the page HTML Header (previous versions).

  • I can no longer tab between cells in a table with pages 5.0.

    I use pages everyday for filling in my work booking sheets. I need to have them synching to the cloud, so I can access the client information while on the road.
    My booking sheet is basically a large table with many cells for name, address, phone number, etc. In pages 4.3 I could enter some information into the cell, hit the tab button, and it would go straight to the next cell in the table. This was a quick and easy way for me to fill out my forms on the computer.
    Well, since the update, the tab button only moves the cursor over in the same cell, as opposed to the next cell. It is VERY rare to need to tab in a cell, as opposed to going to the next cell.
    I did figure out that I could Option+ Tab to move to the next cell, but it is very hard to change my procedure of tabbing after all this timing doing it the other way.
    Am I just missing a preferance to tab between cells, instead of inside a cell?
    Thanks
    Dave

    Option-tab makes sense and can be done with the left hand's thumb/forefinger.
    Using tab was always arse-backwards as it defeated the use of tab within the table cell.
    Best to use both for what they always do:
    Option tab or an arrow key (singular) to jump cells
    tab to jump to the next tab in the text wherever it is within or without cells.
    The contrary precedence was set by Microsoft and was a bad idea. In good UI you do not have shortucts reverse roles such that you need to pay excessive attention to the context.

  • Calc: How can I get absolute cell references in tables to work?

    Hi, I'm new to Star Office, and have run into a problem in my first spreadsheet.
    I have a data table in my spreadsheet.
    Some cells in the table need to make calculations based on other cells in the table.
    When I sort the table, however, the cell references are made to be incorrect. I expected that I could just use absolute references (e.g. $A$2) and when the table was sorted those references would be updated to refer to the new absolute location of that cell, e.g. $A$10). However, the absolute references are being left literally the same ($A$2) after the sort, making them reference a different row of data than intended. Relative references of course don't work in this situation either (I tried for thoroughness). (I thought Excel behaved the way I expected, but I just tried it in Excel 2007 and it is exhibiting the same behavior as StarOffice Calc.)
    I'm also concerned, although I haven't tried it yet, about what will happen when I reference cells in this table from another table using absolute references that the same problem will exist...
    So basically, I can't find a way to use absolute references to cells in a table that will persist correctly when the table is sorted. Any suggestions?
    Thanks. Asa

    I was able to work around the problem by creating an index column in the table with a unique number for each row of data and using vlookup() to reference the correct row. If there is a more elegant solution I'm still interested :)
    Edited by: earthasa on Sep 20, 2007 3:00 AM

    OK. Think I've got it now thanks to looking at the short keys and searching for "Full Screen".  The upper left key is "`" which looks like a grave - a slightly angled single quote. But when I look at the "Application" setting for Toggle full screen it is set to "'" - a "normal" single quote.  Sure enough, if I hit the normal single quote key the toggle works.
    I have not been anywhere near the hotkeys and can't imagine why anything would change it from a grave key to a single quote - especially as they look almost identical on the screen.  I'm guessing that Adobe changed this (maybe only for international users?)
    Anyway I now know how to toggle full screen, although it makes the "Premiere" keyboard with its big purple key for "Toggle full screen" redundant.  Does make me wonder what the shortcut key of "'" or CTRL + "'" gives that I'm presumably missing since it appears to have been remapped.

  • Merging and un-merging Tables (not talking about cells in a table).

    Hello,
    New to Mac-world and iWork 09. If I've two separate tables on a sheet and wanted to merge these two tables, also, if I've a table and would want to separate it into two or three etc. tables, can anyone help me doing this step by step, please?
    Thanks in-advance.

    D,
    Here's a step-by-step.
    *Merging 2 tables.*
    Here we shall assume for simplicity that there are no Footer Rows to deal with, at least not in the table that is going away.
    First, make room in your receiving table, the one that you are going to end up with. (This isn't mandatory, but it helps with the visualization of what you will have when you are done.) To expand a table, click once inside it to activate it and then you will see three large dimpled gray handles; one in the lower right hand corner can be dragged to add both columns and rows at once, one at the lower left corner can be dragged to add rows and one in the upper right corner to add columns.
    Now you have room to add your second table to your first.
    Moving your second table's content into the first table is a four-step process.
    1. Select all the cells in the second table that you wish to move.
    2. Edit > Mark for Move
    3. Select the cell in the first table where you want the upper left cell of the second table to go.
    4. Edit > Move
    Now you can clean up by deleting whatever is left of the second table that you didn't need to move.
    *Separating one table into two or more tables.*
    Lots of ways to do this, but here's my favorite.
    1. In the Sheets Pane, click on the name of the table that you wish to split.
    2. Edit > Copy , Edit > Paste , Select all cells in the new table, Delete them to clear the table.
    Now you have a new table the same size as your original. Make as many copies of this new blank table as you are going to need. This would be a good time to rename the new tables in the Sheets Pane. Again, it's not mandatory that the new tables be the same size as the original, but that's a convenient place to begin.
    3. Select a block of cells in the original table that you wish to split off.
    4. Edit > Mark for Move
    5. Select cell A1 in a blank table.
    6. Edit > Move.
    Repeat steps 3 to 6 as many times as needed.
    Now you need to clean up the blank rows and columns, both in your decimated original table and in your oversized new tables. The easiest way if you don't have any rogue cell content is to activate a table, grab the big handle in the lower right corner and drag up and left until you can't go any further.
    If you have any rogue cells, cells with perhaps accidental content away from your intended work, your table sizing handle will stop working when it runs against them. Any cell with content will block the table size reduction effort and if you want to shrink the table further you will have to either deal with the cells first or delete the rows and columns using other controls.
    Regards,
    Jerry

  • Changing cell padding does not change margin

    The text in the cell of an existing table is clearly indented from the cell border.   However, the cell padding is set to 0.  When I change the cell padding to 10, 50, or any other number, the text margin does not change.
    I am trying to create another table.  The text in the new table is flush left.  Whatever I set the cell padding to, the text margin does not change.
    The documentation indicates that the only way to change the cell margins is to change cell padding.  Obviously that does not work.  How do I change the cell padding?
    Thank you.

    Can you please anwser couple of queries to nail down the issue?
    1) Please let us know the Contribute Version and OS you are using.
    2) Is this happening with a particular page?
    3) Can you try creating a new blank page, insert a table and modify the Cell Padding value.Check whether it is getting reflected and also verify the cell padding parameter is added in the code.

  • How to disable a single cell in a table (and not the whole column)

    Hi there,
    I've got a webdynpro table with a few columns, rows can be created dynamically through a button in the table toolbar.
    Depending on the value of a certain cell I have to disable another cell (in the same row).
    I tried to manipulate the view in the modifyview but no joy. I also tried to manipulate the attribute property through the coding below:
      DATA lv_knttp TYPE knttp.
      lo_nd_kostl = wd_context->path_get_node( path = `MULTIVALUES.KOSTL` ).
      lo_el_kostl = lo_nd_kostl->get_element( ).
      lo_el_kostl->set_attribute_property(
      attribute_name = 'LTEXT'
              property       = lo_el_kostl->e_property-enabled
              value          = ''
    but it disables the whole column!!!! I just need the cell to be disabled (I thought the code above, through the lead selection, would affect a certain cell only - but I was wrong).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!!!

    Hi,
    using cell variants you can do this.,
    check this article: [Cell Variants in WDA|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/WDABAP/WebDynproforABAPCellVariants]
    Instead of binding the read only property of table as a whole , just bind the read only property of column group of table., You can do this bu drill down the table and select the required column and bind the read only column.,
    then In onAction Event of button .,
    loop the table, if condition satisfied set the read only property to true else false.,!!
    hope this helps u.,
    Thanks & regards,

  • RTF templates and word cell padding.

    Hi.
    I'm having a problem with numbers in an XML Publisher report. Generated RTF templates don't seem to retain the cell padding properties.
    Has anyone got any suggestions on how to get round this?
    Thanks.
    Steve.

    Well there appears to be a bug in the RTF generator.
    It appears that Oracle want to use paragraph left and right indentation properties to pad text in cells away from cell borders. There is a bug in the rtf reader in word that causes problems if cell padding properties are used so paragraph indentation appears a sensible work round.
    By default there appears to be a left hand indentation of 5 applied to all paragraphs in cells. If a left hand cell maring is applied to cells then the left hand cell margin in the report increases in size.
    However, right hand cell margins appear to be ignored and NOT written as attributes to cell paragraph text in the the generated report, and this causes problems when trying to print an RTF report as numbers in cells get clipped by cell borders.

  • F4 help for only a single cell in a table

    Dear All,
    The requirement here is to provide input help for only a particular cell in a table.
    This cannot be achieved by assigning search help to the attribute of the context as this will render all the cells of that particular column with F4 help. I tried applying the cell variant concept but only go up to a certain extent.
    I tried OVS as well. But for this to work we need to lead select the entry and then go ahead with F4, which will make is inconvenient for the user.
    I even searched the forum for some answers, but i could only go to a certain extent with the help of those.
    So, if anyone out there has any idea, please help me out. Also, if this is a repeat post by any chance (i think not) kindly provide me with the link of the original.
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Pramod

    I am running older versions, so i didn't find any sample dynpros..
    You can try with this peace of code..nyways..
    DATA: LR_TABLE TYPE REF TO CL_WD_TABLE.
    DATA: LR_COLUMNS TYPE CL_WD_table_column=>tt_table_column.
    DATA: LR_COLUMN TYPE REF TO CL_WD_TABLE_COLUMN.
    DATA: LR_EDITOR TYPE REF TO CL_WD_VIEW_ELEMENT.
    DATA: LR_TEXT   TYPE REF TO CL_WD_TEXT_VIEW.
    DATA: BINDING TYPE STRING.
    DATA: LR_CELL TYPE REF TO CL_WD_TABLE_STANDARD_CELL.
    IF FIRST_TIME EQ ABAP_TRUE.
      LR_TABLE ?= VIEW->GET_ELEMENT( 'TBL_COMPONENTS' ).
      LR_COLUMNS = LR_TABLE->GET_COLUMNS( ).
      LOOP AT LR_COLUMNS INTO LR_COLUMN.
        LR_EDITOR ?= LR_COLUMN->GET_TABLE_CELL_EDITOR( ).
        BINDING = LR_EDITOR->BOUND__PRIMARY_PROPERTY( ).
        IF BINDING EQ 'RRSO.SOCOMP.POSNR' OR
           BINDING EQ 'RRSO.SOCOMP.MATNR' OR
           BINDING EQ 'RRSO.SOCOMP.KWMENG' OR
           BINDING EQ 'RRSO.SOCOMP.NETPR' OR
           BINDING EQ 'RRSO.SOCOMP.POPRICE' OR
           BINDING EQ 'RRSO.SOCOMP.QUANTITY'.
           LR_CELL = CL_WD_TABLE_STANDARD_CELL=>NEW_TABLE_STANDARD_CELL( VIEW = VIEW
                                VARIANT_KEY = 'TOTAL' ).
           IF BINDING EQ 'RRSO.SOCOMP.QUANTITY'.
             LR_TEXT = CL_WD_TEXT_VIEW=>NEW_TEXT_VIEW( VIEW = VIEW
                                                       TEXT = 'Total'
                                                       H_ALIGN = CL_WD_TEXT_VIEW=>E_H_ALIGN-FORCED_RIGHT ).
           ELSE.
             LR_TEXT = CL_WD_TEXT_VIEW=>NEW_TEXT_VIEW( VIEW = VIEW ).
           ENDIF.
           LR_CELL->SET_EDITOR( LR_TEXT ).
        ENDIF.
         LR_COLUMN->ADD_CELL_VARIANT( LR_CELL ).
      ENDLOOP.
    ENDIF.
    This code is for setting Text View as cell editor, instead text view u can take input field and use bind_value method to bind with another context attribute.
