Need really basic help

I've never used Flash or ActionScript before, and I'm very frustrated at trying to do something very simple:
I just want to write an ActionScript 3 that prints "Hello World" to a console. I'm not trying to run it in the web, have a GUI, or anything else. Can somebody give me step-by-step instructions for how to do this with Flash CS4 on OS X?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'to a console' but there's a couple of ways. 1 - you can use the trace command, which is helpful in debugging as well. Simply open the Actions panel in Flash and do:
trace("Hello World");
When you run it, you'll see the trace in the Output panel.
2. You can add a dynamic text field to the stage and output into that. Click the Text tool in the tools menu and draw out a text region on stage. In the properties panel change the text type to Dynamic Text (little drop down on the left side...) right under that give the text field an instance name such as myText - this allows you to reference the field from ActionScript. Click the key frame in the timeline as you can't add script to an object and the open the Actions panel and enter: myText.text = "Hello World";
Run it (Ctrl-Enter) and you should see the output in your field. PS - when you make the field, change the text color to black or something to be sure you can see it.
The Help is really good in Flash, there's examples for most everything and there's plenty of good tutorials on line. kirupa.com is a great site with lots of info, among others.

Darwin Streaming Server (really basic help)

Hey, I need some basic DSS help. REALLY basic help. So, Darwin is installed and everything, and I can upload movies to the /usr/local/movies directory. When I upload them there, I can see them in the 'make new playlist' screen. However, Darwin seems to be requesting a .sdp file as the 'mount point'?? What's with that?

The mount point is supposed to be the location on the hard disk where the movie file resides; the sdp extension indicates that the file is a stream. To create a SDP file, try using the information linked to from this page.

Really basic help needed bouncing tracks to mp3

Hi
We have been working on some new music in MIDI format and really would like to have them available to play on our ipod. I have read the manual on bouncing to mp3 format. However I have 2 problems.
1) Some tracks don't even allow my to bounce to mp3. When I try to select file>Bounce, I cannot select it as it is not available and is the light grey colour of unavailable items.
2) The tracks that I have been able to bounce have no sound when I play them back in itunes or quicktime player.
What do I do to fix these two problems. Thank you for your help.

First of all: Bouncing is usually done by bouncing from the Master Output Channel. You should see a small Bounce Button (Bnce) below the Fader (look to the left in the Inspector window - there are 2 Channel Strips. The Left is for the selected Track and the right one usually is the master Output (Out 1-2). Or you can select Bounce from the File Menu. Only Output Tracks can be bounced! You can't bounce individual tracks, but have to route them to an output. Usually, this routing is on by default, so if you didn't change it, it shouldn't worry you.
See if none of your tracks are muted and if you can actually play back the entire project and hear the desired result in Logic. If so, hit the bounce button below the master output (1-2) fader.
The second step is to select the right method of bouncing. There should be a popup menu now asking you about filename and so. Enter the desired filename and maybe another folder. If not, Logic names it Output 1-2.mp3, which isn't that bright. To the lower left, u should see some available file formats. Check mp3 (this is important!) first. Also select offline bounce, if not checked. Check if "normalise" is activated. If not, activate it.
Now, the options change to allow some mp3 specific tweaks. Use the ones you like. I use about 160kbits for stereo, normal stereo mode, and tweak all the ID3 Tags as desired. Also check "add to itunes library".
Now, before you bounce, check if the start and stop marks of the bounce are actually the same that you want them to be. Sometimes they snap to the last marked region, which isn't neccesarily the correct song length. I messed up some bounces before i got this right.
If everything looks good, hit bounce. Logic should bounce, normalize and convert to mp3 now. Wait some seconds for iTunes to get the song imported. There you are. If not, ask again

Really basic help needed

I've never done any web work other than look at it. (and buy too much stuff) Now I'd like to set up a family web site (pictures and announcements) on the "free" site available through my provider. I have no idea how to do it; no concept of how a web page or information source is created. Can someone direct me to a rudimentary education source?
My provider recommends Fetch, Anarchie, or Transit. Would one of these have enough instructions to get me started?

Complete Novice Needs Some Basic Help

Hi!
I'm sorry to clutter up the discussion with such basic questions, but what I want to do is get something from a cassette tape to my iPod. I'm told I can do this through GarageBand, and I have an audio cable that the guy in the Apple store said I would need. I'm not even sure where to plug this cable in. So any help in where I plug this in, or what I do next would be tremendously appreciated. If someone could even tell me where to look for help that would be great (when I look in GarageBand help its saying something about MIDIs and I don't even know what that is). Eternal gratitude for any help....

So in System Preferences, Sound I have 2 things,
Internal Microphone (port is Built-in) and Line In
(port is Audio line-in port). I can't seem to
select one or the other, they're just there.
Yeah, there is no "apply" or "OK" or anything like that. Just click on the Line-In so that it is highlighted and close the system preferences. That takes care of that. My PB G4 automatically detects when I plug in my line-in now that it is set up.
Then in GB preferences, I only have the option of
Built-in Audio, there is no other option.
Built-In audio is correct in GB prefs.
I also couldn't find where you were saying to
double-click...what's the track header? I've clicked
everything and can't find a monitor drop down menu
option.
The track header is the left-hand side of the track where there is a small speaker or instrument. For what you are doing, you need to create a new basic track. (Under "Track" in the menu bar, click "New Basic Track") You should have a new blue track that is labeled "No Effects." Double click on the speaker image and a dialog box will appear. Right in the middle of this box there are options for Input, Volume, and Monitor. You can turn on and off monitor abilities here.
On the plus side, the connector I have seems to
work...its male/male 1/8".

Need very basic help with calendar - I am such a beginner!!!

OK, I apologize in advance if this is a very silly question. But I'm new to all this stuff and really have no clue as to what I'm doing.
I just got a brand new iPhone. It's great! I am using the calendar feature that came with the phone. But I can't figure out how to make it "talk" to my husband's calendar. He uses Microsoft Outlook. I've skimmed through lots of articles about Microsoft Exchange... but I don't have any Microsoft programs. I am a stay at home mother, and have been out of the technology loop for a while. It looks like I need a Microsoft Exchange account? I can't figure out how to get Microsoft Exchange, and if it's going to cost a fortune.
I'm not even sure where to find which software is on my phone! There is no "about this phone" button that I can find. It's brand new, I think it was 3S and is 16GB if that helps.

You could have the TC join your existing wireless network as a client, or you can can connect the Time Capsule's WAN port to the modem/router.
In both cases the TC's "connection sharing" should be set to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
If the TC "joins" the wireless network you can only back up over your wireless connection, so the second option is preferable.

I need some basic help with Email setup

Hello, I ve just been connected to infinity and I m trying to setup a few email addresses but the BT yahoo system is confusing me.
I managed to create a new email (sub account) for my wife but I m struggling with finding a way to have a couple more for myself. Do I really need to make a sub account for each email?
The default email has my name and surname in it which is not something I generally use for that purpose, I would only use that one for close friends and family, I would like to setup another one for general use and one for when there is a likelyhood it ll get a lot of spam.
The way to add extra emails is usually very simple (with previous isps) , login to "manage my account" and choose username and password then enter the details in outlook express.
With BT I m having to deal with the Yahoo thingy, which does a lot of more than just emails but at this time I have interest in it at all.
1 - I would simply like to setup a few emails to use with outlook express, what is the best way to achieve that ?
2 - The yahoo email seems to be part of a network like facebook, as I don t intend to use that side of it I would prefer not to have my personal details associated with a profile that I do not need . It seems to be for public viewing by default.
Can I set up and use my emails without having an online profile for yahoo?
How do i keep my details offline (not publicly viewable in yahoo)?

you get one prime email address. the one you agreed to and the one to set up your bt mail, it was in letter confirming bt set up. (order ref)
for more for yourself, or anybody else, its got to be sub. up to ten for INF2
I have set up 4 sub accounts with different names, etc. but use the same password for all 5 .
I then had them set up with outlook express, there is a bt prog to do this. look on site.
Then I use incredimail as my final mail client, this also has a prog to set up from outlook express.
so all my mail to and from me ends up in incredimail with my 4 sub accounts, using one as my prime.
my bt prime I do not use, as it is my full name.
so far so good, just a bit slow finding its way, like you my previous ISP (tesco) was less complicated, but slow copper wire.

- You try to set the PLAF to Windows. which will not work on Linux and Mac (and if it did, the users would be screaming at you).
- setLayout(null)/setBounds(int,int,int,int) is rubbish GUI development, it is fragile and will cause problems (especially if changing PLAFs)
- Why did you not code this as a hybrid application/app?
- The call to the JFileChooser will require a trusted applet, and it is pointing to the wrong place in seeking out the 'Program Files' directory, better to put configuration data/history data in a sub-dir or user.home.
- This app. is much better suited to being deployed using Java Web Start. Forget the applet and use the frame, persistence can be obtained through the PersistenceService and that will side step both the application needing 'trust' and trying to find a suitable path for storing results of past games. JWS can launch the app. directly off the net, and provides auto-update and many other slick features.

Need some basic help with Acrobat and LiveCycle

This is my first time using Acrobat and LiveCycle to design a form. Basically all I need is a title that is uneditable and underneath that I want to insert a text box so people can type in the box then print off the whole page with their comments. I can do all of that except the problem is when I insert the text box, the cursor is left justified but appears in the middle of the textbox. So when people start typing, there is a huge gap between the title and what they've typed. I want their typing to appear directly under the title. What am I doing wrong? See attached for a visual explanation. Thanks.

You can have the text in the field top jusitied. This is controlled on the Font palette. Turn on the Font palette under the window menu. It usually will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. Now highlight the field you want to adjust. Make usre the paragraph tab is slected. Click on the small dropdown arrow indictaed in yellow in the screen shot and select "Edit Value". Now click the top justification as indicated by the arroe in the csreen shot.

I'm a newbie and need some basic help...

I'm a newb trying to teach myself Director. I'm trying to
make a menu and I'm having some problems....
I have 3 main buttons. When you click one of the main
buttons, 3 sub buttons pop up next to the button pressed. When one
of those sub buttons is pressed, a box pops up to the right of the
sub buttons and has a list inside containing links to movies. When
one of the links is pressed i want the movie to take the place of
the links in the box. When the movie is done playing it will
disappear and show the links again.

If you look at it, could you tell me what I've done
correctly, and how I should go about implementing the rest of the
menu? I imagine you have to use director movies within the main
director movie, but I haven't figured out how to implement that. Or

resources and examples are scarce for Director it seems.
And I'm not sure if i have to upload all the pics for you to
view my movie correctly, If I do, just let me know...

category button, a Quicktime video will play, not a Director
"movie"...Thanks for the help! using the method you described, that
would make the menu disappear when the video is played, and reload
the menu when the movie is done, right? I want the menu to stay

Need really big help

My iPod was on low battery then i plug the USB to my computer to recharge it.Then my iPod beeps,yes,it beeps,a couble of times.You know when the computer make a sound to indicate that a hardware is plug in?Well my computer make that sound three times in a roll. My iPod only charges and dosent show up on "My Computer" and iTunes.But my iPod still works properly.It only didnt show on the computer.

Okay, I have several things for you to try if this initial one doesn't work:
First off, when your iPod beeps, that usually means that it is so low on battery that the USB port isn't giving it enough power to actually connect to your computer and be recognized by it at this moment.
In this case..
1 - let your iPod recharge for 30 minutes.
2 - After 30 minutes, reset your iPod (hold the "MENU" and middle buttons together for 10 seconds), and promptly disconnect it.
3 - After waiting a few moments, re-connect your iPod to your computer, and see if things work now.

I'm a WSYWIG guy trying to use my own Mac remotely from our new client store. I bought Apple Remote Desktop from the App Store, and it installed automatically on my Mac at home. I copied it to my laptop (to see how to set it up and to move it to the Mac at my work, which will be the Mac that will use my Mac at home), but my Mac at home seems to be the Administrator, which I do NOT want.
I looked at the video tutorial and it talked about "installing the Administrator software on your Admin computer", and showed the standard install screen. But the software was installed by the App Store, and I never saw an installer like that.
I looked in the App Store help, and it said "Copy the application from one Mac to another Mac. When you open the copied application on the other Mac, enter the Apple ID used to purchase it." But again, there was NO INSTALLER!
So OK, it also said that I could re-download it on my laptop. It said to log into the App Store with the same user ID, and, "Click Purchases in the toolbar to list applications purchased. Any application that has an INSTALL option was purchased using the Apple ID, but not installed on the Mac you’re using. You can download and install the application on the Mac." Sure enough, the App said "Installed", but there was no link to download it!
This is embarrassing, I've been using Mac for 15 years, and generally know what I'm doing. I must be doing something mind numbingly stupid to have this much trouble with a simple download...
Can somebody give a brother a hand here?

OK, that makes sense (you'd think that since Apple made me download from the App Store, they would change their help on that...).
How can I download the App for my laptop? As I said, the App Store tells me that it is "Installed", but gives no options to re-download it, again, contrary to their own documentation.
Can I just copy the App and move it over to the other computer? I know how to create a Client Installer.

Need some basic help -- my iTunes no longer plays all songs in my playlist

I've created a holiday playlist, and for some reason iTunes will only play one song and then the music stops. I must manually press play to get the next song to play. The music also stops when I try to fast forward to the next song or back up and play the previous song. In either case, I can get the music going again by pressing play, but again iTunes will only play that one song.
I've got checks next to every song in the list. I've been toggling repeat and shuffle on and off with no luck.
FYI...I'm having no trouble with my other playlists. This is especially frustrating since my parents aren't interested in listening to my other music -- only the holiday tunes.
Would appreciate anyone's suggestions for how to resolve.

Solved it. Hold down option (alt) while launching iTunes, and it asks to locate the iTunes library. Point it at the file called "iTunes library". All is back where it belongs. Apparently pointing to it in the Advanced tab wasn't enough.

Need really urgent help from anyone

We are implementing sip in our business and we tested the dummy numbers on sip it is working fine.
When we test our main numbers it is not working for incoming or outgoing calls. it is giving sip error error 404.
I am using CUCM 8.6.2
Any ideas.

Hi Rohit,
CUCM releasing the call because it's unable to find the called number received i.e. called number does not exist in dial-plan.
Check below points:-
1). Check the CSS on the SIP trunk in CUCM (may be called number is not accessible due to incorrect CSS).
2). Check the translation pattern and it's CSS.
3). If you are not using translation pattern then check for the translation profile in router config. In this case you can check and share your running-config and debug voice dial-peer or debug voice ccapi inout.
