Need template with daily entries, & monthly sums & year-to-date sums

I'm trying to find a budget template for Numbers -- adapted from the checkbook template, maybe? --
where one can enter daily transactions (with category) in 12 different monthly tables, show each month's category sums in tables next to the daily ones,
and also have a table for Year-to-Date category sums, probably at the top of the whole thing.
In other words, each individual transaction would have to be added to its monthly category table, AND to the Year-to-Date category table.
Has anyone done this?  Can it be done in Numbers?
Thanks.

Hi Jackie,
That makes more sense than my original reading. The function you are looking for is "SUMIFS."
Here's an example, with the transactions recorded in the "Data" table, and the January sums reported in the "Summary" table.
"Data" contains no formulas.
On "Summary":
A1 contains the start date, Jan 1, 2012.
The rest of column A contains the category names, which must exactly match the names used in the Data table.
B2 contains the formula, which is filled down the rest of column B:
Summary::B2: =SUMIFS(Data::$C,Data::$B,"="&A,Data::A,">="&$A$1,Data::$A,"<="&EOMONTH($A$1,0) )
For an amount to be included in the SUM, three conditions must be met:
-- The transaction category must match the category in that row of Summary.
-- The transaction date must be on or after the date in A1 of Summary
-- The transaction date must be on or before the last day of the month in A1 of Summary.

Barry

  • Month and Year-To-Date Grouping

    Hello,
    I have 4 key figures.  For each of the key figures I need to display the value for the month and the value for the year-to-date.  Example, if the user selects October as the month the query should display only the totals for October and the totals from January to October.  The user does not want to see the totals for January, February, March and so on.
    ........................Month of October.................Year-To-Date
    No. of Orders .................. 3,005..................... 22,950
    Order Value ..................190,000................ 5,900,000
    Canceled Orders .....................7........................... 60
    Value of Canceled Orders......700........................8000
    Can someone tell me how I go about doing that?

    Hello MIG,
    I guess you can create a structure for your key figures at the rows area of the query and a structure for your dates (e.g. fiscal periods) at the columns area. For your columns, you will need two restricted key figures. The first key fgure will be for your user's current month (e.g. Oct) -- this will be equal to fiscal year/period restricted by a user entry variable for the current month. The second key figure will be for your year to date KF (e.g. Jan to Oct) -- this will be equal to fiscal year/period restricted by a customer exit variable that computes for the date range between Jan and the user's current month. <b>OR</b> you can ask the user to input the initial date (should be defaulted to Jan 2006*) and the current month in a date range -- this will be an interval variable. Hope this helps.

  • Get month and year from date type

    Hi all,
    I need to get the month and year from the date type.
    For example select to_date('2011-01-17', 'yyyy-mm-dd') from dual;Result needed:
    01-2011Any ideas?
    thanks in advance,
    Bahchevanov.

    Hello Bahchevanov,
    if you need the date to compute something, then you can
    TRUNC(SYSDATE,'mm')This will give you a date with the days removed -> 01.01.2011

  • Using an expression in SSRS to display rolling 12 month and year to date volumes

    I need some help in writing an expression in SSRS. I have a table that contains date columns and rows that contain different types of data groups. (e.g. total number of items received during the month, total dollars for the month, etc.) I want to add two
    new columns to the end of the report that will display a rolling twelve month total for each of the different rows of data. Plus a column that would show year to date totals for the same rows.
    I was thinking I could accomplish this by adding expressions for each row in the new 'rolling twelve month' and 'YTD' columns in my report however, I'm not sure how to structure the expressions to achieve this.
    Here is an example of how my report currently looks. (I added a pipe delimeter in case the formatting changes once this is submitted.)
                             Jan-2014 | Feb-2014 | Mar-2014 | Apr-2014 | Rolling 12 mth | YTD
    Items received     100 | 35 | 45 | 12 | 192 | 192
    Dollars                $50.00 | $25.00 | $120.00 | $15.00 | $210.00 | $210.00
    Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.
    Thank you

    This example shows how to get what you need. It'll take modifying your query to add two cased columns onto the end.

  • Loop through month and year till date while using a merge statement

    Hello Guys,
    I have 2 tables with the following datas in them:-
    Company
    CompanyId CompanyName
    1                 Company1
    2                 Company2
    3                 Company3
    Employees
    EmployeeId EmployeeName CompanyId StartDate
    1                  Employee1        1                 12/21/2011
    2                  Employee2        1                 01/20/2012
    3                  Employee3        2                 03/23/2012
    4                  Employee4        2                 07/15/2012
    5                  Employee5        2                 01/20/2013
    6                  Employee6        3                 12/17/2013
    Now i want to check, How many people were recruited in the team in the specified month and year? I have the storage table as follows:-
    RecruiterIndicator
    CompanyId Year Month EmployeeRecruited
    1                 2011 12      1
    1                 2012 1        1
    2                 2012 3        1
    2                 2012 7        1
    2                 2013 1        1
    3                 2013 12      1
    This should be a merge stored procedure that should update the data if it is present for the same month year and company and insert if that is not present?
    Please help me with this
    Thanks
    Abhishek

    It's not really clear where the merge to come into play. To get the RecruiterIndicator table from Employess, this query should do:
    SELECT CompanyId, Year(StartDate), Month(StartDate), COUNT(*)
    FROM   Employees
    GROUP  BY CompanyId, Year(StartDate), Month(StartDate)

  • Need help with MDX formula to sum months

    I was able to use Gary C's suggestion to sum daily data for 90 days with the following formula.
    SUM( TAIL( TUPLERANGE(
    ([FY_2006], [01/01]), ([Scenario].CurrentMember,
    [Time].CurrentMember) ), 90 ))
    This formula works great - even when crossing different years in the Scenario dimension.
    I'm now trying to sum the prior 3 months using a similar TupleRange command:
    SUM( TAIL( TUPLERANGE(
    ([FY_2006], [JAN]), ([Scenario].CurrentMember,
    [Time].CurrentMember) ), 3 ))
    I'm running into an issue due to additional parents in the time dimension. January and February of the current year are pulling data from the children of another parent in the Time dimension as opposed to Nov and Dec from prior year.
    My Time dimension is setup as follows:
    Time
    |
    |-Total Year
    | |-Jan
    | | |-01/01
    | | |-01/02...
    | |.
    | |-Feb... Dec (each month has days as children)
    |.
    |.
    |-QTDs
    | |- Various parents and shared children
    |.
    |-Weeks
    | |-FY08_Weeks
    | |.
    | |-FY09_Weeks
    Using the previous TupleRange command, when I retrieve data for Jan it retrieves data from the following members:
    Jan
    FY08_Weeks
    FY09_Weeks
    Any suggestions on how I can write the MDX formula so my 3 Month formula pulls in the correct members? (That is, it should only pull in members from the 'Total Year' parent.)

    In ASO architecture, if you want to aggregate these multiplied values you probably want to do the multiplication prior to loading so the sum of the products rolls up. Right now, you can't have the multiplication done in MDX and then have ASO aggregate. It's mostly a performance concern; you can do the multiplication and aggregation in one formula if you want.<BR><BR>The basic multiplication is just<BR> [Standard Material Per Unit] * [Units Sold]<BR><BR>To aggregate, you need to wrap in additional clauses. I've attached code here so you can see it with indenting- I believe that consistent indenting helps catch a lot of syntax errors.<BR><BR>You will also need to assign the formula to a new member (account or otherwise).<BR><BR>If you only want to see the values at level-0 and you don't want them aggregated, it's very easy:<BR><BR>iif (<BR> [Product].CurrentMember.[LEVEL_NUM] = 0,<BR> [Standard Material Per Unit] * [Units Sold],<BR> MISSING<BR>)<BR><BR><BR>

  • Display dates with zeros for month, day, year.

    I have a date coming from a database as an int (20021215 means 12/15/2002). If the database gives me a "0", meaning no date value is assigned, then it should be displayed as "00/00/0000". The following code snippet works for the non-zero int database values ...
    public static String formatDisplayDate(int date) {
        String dateAsString = null;
        if (date == 0) {
            dateAsString = "00000000";
        else {
            dateAsString = Integer.toString(date);
        String strYear = dateAsString.substring(0,4);
        String strMonth = dateAsString.substring(4,6);
        String strDay = dateAsString.substring(6);
        int year = Integer.parseInt(strYear);
        int month = (Integer.parseInt(strMonth)) - 1;
        int day = Integer.parseInt(strDay);
        DateFormat myFormat = DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.SHORT);
        Calendar cal = myFormat.getCalendar();
        cal.set(year, month, day);
        Date myDate = cal.getTime();
        String formattedDate = myFormat.format(myDate);
        return formattedDate;
    }Although I didn't really expect the zero values case to work, I am not sure how to implement it. How would I go about building a string using all zeros and still have it automatically display in the correct locale format?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you for your response. I agree a blank field would be better, but I think the "zeros" format is there to give the user an idea of expected date entry formatting, not that they'll necessarily follow it. I have made a few changes per your suggestions (shown below for the record, minus the exception handling), and it works perfectly.
    public static String formatExternalDate8(int date) {
      String dateAsString = null;
      if (date == 0) {
        dateAsString = "00010101";
      else {
        dateAsString = Integer.toString(date);
      int year = Integer.parseInt(dateAsString.substring(0,4));
      int month = (Integer.parseInt(dateAsString.substring(4,6))) - 1;
      int day = Integer.parseInt(dateAsString.substring(6));
      DateFormat myFormat = DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.SHORT);
      Calendar cal = myFormat.getCalendar();
      cal.set(year, month, day);
      Date myDate = cal.getTime();
      String formattedDate = myFormat.format(myDate);
      if (date == 0) {
        formattedDate = formattedDate.replace('1', '0');
      return formattedDate;
    }Thanks again for your assistance.

  • Need help with select that month range with flexible first date

    Hello everyone,
    I am trying to create a selection of month range (will be in a WITH clause) for a report to display monthly data. But the first month start date can be any date. (Not necessarily the first date of the month)
    Examples:
    Report input parameters:
    Start Date: 08/10/12
    End Month: Dec 2012
    I was trying to build a with select that will list
    Month_Start, Month_End
    08/10/12, 31/10/12
    01/11/12, 30/11/12
    01/12/12, 31/12/12
    OR
    Month_Start, Next_Month
    08/10/12, 01/11/12
    01/11/12, 01/12/12
    01/12/12, 01/01/13
    End month is optional, so if no value the select will list only
    08/10/12, 01/11/12

    Hi,
    Here's one way:
    WITH   params      AS
         SELECT     TO_DATE (:p50_start_date, 'DD/MM/YYYY')     AS start_date
         ,     TO_DATE (:p50_end_month,  'DD/MM/YYYY')     AS end_date
         FROM     dual
    SELECT     GREATEST ( start_date
               , ADD_MONTHS ( TRUNC (start_date, 'MONTH')
                            , LEVEL - 1
              )               AS month_start
    ,     LEAST     ( end_date
              , ADD_MONTHS ( TRUNC (start_date, 'MONTH')
                          , LEVEL
                        ) - 1
              )               AS month_end
    FROM    params
    CONNECT BY     LEVEL     <= 1 + MONTHS_BETWEEN ( end_date
                                      , TRUNC (start_date, 'MONTH')
    ;:p50_end_month doesn't have to be the last day of the month; any day will work.
    If you want to generate a Counter Table containing the integers 1 througn x in SQL, you could say
    SELECT  ROWNUM  AS n
    FROM    all_objects
    WHERE   ROWNUM  <= x
    ;but, starting in Oracle 9.1, it's much faster to say
    SELECT  LEVEL   AS n
    FROM    dual    -- or any table containing exactly 1 row
    CONNECT BY  LEVEL <= x
    ;Also, x can be greater than the number of rows in all_objects.

  • GL Tables Partitioning with daily and monthly periods

    This implementation(bank) has a requirement for 'daily periods' (01-Jan-2010 ...31-Dec-2010 ) and 'monthly periods' (Jan-2010 ...Dec-2010)
    They are also using multiple sets of books, multi-org.
    Please advise how to best partition GL tables to best serve those requirements.
    Secondly,
    Has anybody tried using an on-update trigger on GL_PERIOD_STATUSES to automatically create partition?
    if CLOSING_STATUS changes to 'F' or 'O'
    and period_name not in dba_tab_partitions
    create partition
    We plan to use GL_PERIOD_STATUSES because GL_PERIODS.period_name
    still changes until the period_name becomes used.
    Is there a much better way of doing this?

    Thanks for the reply Sandeep.
    Banks in our location are regulated by central bank and subject to daily report requirements, therefore the daily periods.
    gl_balances and gl_je_lines are the two tables we are looking to partition.
    estimated records for daily is around 500K to 1M.

    select a from b where b.start_date < add_months(sysdate, 3).That will work. If you run it at 12:45 today, then it will find rows where start_date is earlier than 12:45 on April 20, 2010.
    (I'm assuming that b.start_date is a DATE, and not a string or a number that's supposed to represent a date.)
    If that's not what you want, then describe what you do want.
    Post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements) and the results you want from that sample data.

    The problem I see is wrong url for jDriver.
    you have to say: jdbc:weblogic:oracle
    In properties what you need is:
    user=
    password=
    server=
    Actually, your connetion pool is not created yet. It has problems. Make sure you create connectionpool successfully
    first.
    Thanks,
    Mitesh

  • Default Month and Year in Date Paramater

    Hi,
    I have a question and not able to understand how to show a default current month year i.e 112010 as a deualt value in the prompt.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Poojak

    one more problem i found with that code is:
    if current date is January's date, it gives 12010 instead of 012010 and if you are filtering column is holding values like mmyyyy format, it'll give no results..
    i want you to create a repository variable which holds current_date format in mmyyyy format..
    now, use that repository variable here in default section by selecting server variable..
    select to_Char(sysdate, 'mm') || to_Char(sysdate, 'yyyy') from dual

  • Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly Backups & Tapes Pooling

    We are running number of servers, and have recently migrated from HP Data Protector to System Center DPM 2012 SP1. I am facing two issues here in which the potential solution is requested. I have created one Protection Group with 1 week retention for Daily
    Backup. Different selections or sources are part of this protection group from different servers.
    1. The issue # 1, is that when I wanted to create more Protection Groups for Weekly, Monthly and Yearly Tape Backups, then I could not select those volumes which are already part of Protection Group that I created for the Daily Backup (probably due to the
    reason that same data source can't be part of multiple protection groups). The data source selection will repeat in all protection groups, so please advise how can I achieve daily, weekly, monthly and yearly backups?
    2. Can I restrict some specific tapes (by allocating through bar codes) to each protection group so that only specific tapes will be used for daily, weekly, monthly and yearly backup? This way the offsite tape movement will also be achieved.
    Need solution on both issues. Please help.

    Hi,
    For item 1. use following PG settings.
    1) In the protection group, select short term tape and long term protection.
    2) Select daily, only full backup, or Full plus incremental based on your needs.
    3) For the long term goals, select weekly, monthly, and yearly.
    For item 2. - there is no provision in DPM to specify certain tapes for each goal, but if you create a colocation PGset, you can specify how long to write to a tape and control if different goals use the same tapes or not by adjusting expiry tolerance.
    See Colocate data from different protection groups on tape

  • Extract Month & Year  From Date

    Hi All,
    I have a key figure quantity and i want the data on date,for the month and for the year.
    i create the variables for the date,for the month(ie from date to date) and for the year(ie, from date to date) seperatly that means i have three input variables which may sometimes create confusion.
    My problem is that I want to enter only date and the variable itself calculate the month and year from the date so that it returns the data as desired above.
    for eg. : Now i to enter date : 3/14/2009
              enter MTD (FROM/TO) : 3/01/2009 - 3/14/2009
              enter YTD (FROM/TO) : 4/01/2008 - 3/14/2009
    I want to enter only date : 3/14/2009
    and the variable itself extract the month and year till date.
    and also the same variable calculates number of days so that need not to take the formula variable of date difference to calculate the average qty.
    Neha..

    Hi,
    1. Create User Entry Variable on 0CALDAY : Name = ZCDAY.
    2. Craete a Customer Exit Variable on 0CALDAY: Name  = ZMTD.
    3. Craete a Customer Exit Variable on 0CALDAY: Name  = YMTD.
    Properties of Customer Exit Variables.
    Variable reporesents = Single
    Variable Entry = Mandatory
    Processing By = Customer Exit.
    Character = Calender Day
    Here I'm thinking that ZKF is your key figure.
    In columns you create two selections one is for MTD and other is for YTD.
    In MTD selection, drag and drop ZKF and Drag and Drop 0CALDAY and then Right Clcik and Restrict-->
    Selection = Value Range. (In Between) and restrict with the follwoing Variables
    []ZMTD; ZCDAY.
    In YTD selection, drag and drop ZKF and Drag and Drop 0CALDAY and then Right Clcik and Restrict-->
    Selection = Value Range. (In Between) and restrict with the follwoing Variables
    []YTD; ZCDAY.
    Then write the following code in I_STEP = 2.
