Need to disable script or ActiveX control in WebHelp project

Two of our WebHelp projects display the following two
messages prior to loading the first page:
1) "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has
restricted this file form showing active content that could access
your computer. Click here for options."
2) "It seems javascript is disabled in your browser, please
enable it abd reload again, or click here to view without
javascript."
I don't know my way around well enough in RoboHelp to solve
these problems. I've read that you can disable the ActiveX issue
through options in the Windows Control Panel, but that is not a
valid resolution for these customers, as that will pose security
vulnerabilities. Not sure either about how to enable javascript, as
indicated in the second message.
Obviously there is something in these WebHelp projects that
cause these messages to display. I want to address the issues at
the project level - not the OS level. Is there a way to search a
WebHelp project foe embedded ActiveX controls and java scripts that
may cause these messages, and then figure out a way to change this
behavior?
I am using RoboHelp HTML, version 5.0.2, build 801, and
generating the primary layout as WebHelp. I've played with the
Preferrred Format options when I generate the project, but nothing
has solved the problem yet.
Any suggestions? Help! This novice is stumped.

  • Web browser and script activeX controls and HTML data

    Hello,
    I'm trying to use the Microsoft Web Browser (IWebBrowser2) and Script (IScriptControl) activeX controls in Labview to evaluate and execute HTML script.  If I wire the web browser control's document object to the object input of the Script control's AddObject method, I can then evaluate/execute script such as "document.f.btnI.focus();" and such (in this case corresponding to Google's home page).  However, there are other expressions that include the "window" object that are proving much more difficult to work with.  Although I can browse the document object's parentWindow object via the property browser, if I try to access that object programatically, I get the error "Error -2147467262 occurred at No such interface supported".  I'm wondering how to include the window object for scripting.
    I'm writing a content-oriented web crawler.  I've been writing it with pretty low level TCP functions, handling 301/302 "object moved" and "<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="0; url=http://millercountyliberal.com/">" redirections manually.  But there are other automatic script-based redirections like:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!-- window.location="http://www.jrnl.com" -->
    </script>
    that I'm still trying to figure out how to work with.  As you can see, to work with that one manually involves the window object.  The reason that I don't just let the Web Browser object handle the redirections is because that object often throws script errors, downloads embedded graphics and other unnecessary components, can't handle some non-standard redirections, and sometimes annoyingly crashes.  Any help would be appreciated.  A code sample is attached.  The Web Browser control should already exist on your machine if you have Internet Explorer installed.  The script control may need to be registered before it can be used as follows:
    regsvr32 "c:\MyDir\XHTTP.dll"
    Thanks.

    Hi Ted,
    This seems to be a problem with the way you are referencing the ActiveX properties.  I would research a little more on the API for these objects.  See http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/browser/webbrowser/reference/ifaces/iwebbrowser2/document.asp for an explanation of the IWebBrowser2 Document property.  I am suspicious of where you are typecasting the Document variant into the IHTMLDocument2 object and this is where the error is being thrown.
    A search of this error code on Google shows that this is a generic error from the ActiveX object, and not a LabVIEW error, although it is confusing since LabVIEW uses error codes in this same range.
    Hope this helps!

  • ActiveX Control recording but not playing back in a VS 2012 Web Performance Test

    I am testing an application that loads an Active X control for entering some login information. While recording, this control works fine and I am able to enter information and it is recorded. However on playback in the playback window it has the error "An
    add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet Options for potential conflicts."
    Window 7 OS 64 bit
    IE 8 recorded on 32 bit version
    I see no obvious security conflicts. This runs fine when navigating through manually and recording. It is only during playback where this error occurs.

    Hi IndyJason,
    Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
    As you said that you could not playback the Active X control successfully in web performance test. I know that the ActiveX controls in your Web application will fall into three categories, depending on how they work at the HTTP level.
    Reference:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms404678%28v=vs.110%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    I found that this confusion may be come from the browser preview in the Web test result viewer. The Web Performance Test Results Viewer does not allow script or ActiveX controls to run, because the Web performance test engine does not run the, and for security
    reasons.

  • ActiveX Control Problem

    When I Generate Primary Layout and View Results I get my
    project in a browser (IE7) and a message telling me that IE has
    restricted the webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls. I
    have to Allow Blocked Content to see my finished product properly.
    I am using the BeautifulVistas-WH-Generic skin, but I don't
    see that until I Allow Blocked Content. Prior to that, I see a more
    generic looking skin. All add-ins are enabled, and my security
    settings are set to low. How can I avoid this?

    Sounds like you are viewing webhelp locally without Mark of
    the Web inserted. That will not happen to the end users as they
    will view the help from a server.
    You can either add MOTW or set IE to allow the blocked
    content if you want to view it locally.

  • Disable mouse events in ActiveX control

    Hi,
    I am using the Quicktime COM/ActiveX control for Windows from C# but want to change its default behaviour slightly.
    Currently when the mouse is pressed on the player control it pauses, resumes when double clicked or if already playing reverts to fullscreen mode.
    How can I disable this behaviour so that mouse clicks on the control do nothing?
    I can respond to mouse down events and intercept the message in WndProc but the control still seems to recieve the message before my application code.
    I get the feeling that I just need to change a property of the player, but which one?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Stage3D disabled in ActiveX Control?

    Could someone shed some light on why Stage3D (and StageVideo) are disabled for non-IE ActiveX controls?
    May be I am missing something obvious because both seem to have such valid uses in local applications; I had assumed Adobe was targeting Flash towards this area.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Hi Squall,
    Thanks for posting!
    It's the only browser that supports ActiveX but other applications in Windows can support ActiveX controls. For example embedding Flash Player in a Windows application using a C++ ActiveX control.
    Flash used to have a few articles on it (a few years back) but they seem to have disappeared.
    I can supply an example configuration if anyone's interested?

  • Right click disabled on ActiveX Control

    Hi all.
    Is it possible to disable the right click shortcut menu in an ActiveX control? I know that I can do in a LabView control (right click on it --> Advanced--> Run-Time ShortCut Menu --> Disable), but I don't know for ActiveX controls, because they are different applications embedded on them and have their own events and shortcut menus...
    Thanks,

    Hi, smercurio_fc.
    Thanks for your reply. But sorry I can't understand you completely. For example, I drop an instance of an Adobe PDF Viewer into an ActiveX Container, and this control has its own Run-Time menu you can access by pressing right button on it (this menu isn't that every LabView control has, but an embedded one). Is it possible to disable it through LabView? I mean, I want to right click this control and don't want this menu to appear...

    Hi,
    I would disable the right click.....
    perhaps you can call a javascript function to display a table of options on your jsp with a layer:
    function myOptions( )
    var fullText =      "<table width='278'>" +
         "<tr bgcolor='#FF9900'>" +
         "<td colspan='3'> <b><font color='#000000' face='MS Sans Serif' size='3'>Option1</font></b></td>" +
         "</tr>" +
    "<tr>" +
    "<tr bgcolor='#FF9900'>" +
         "<td colspan='3'> <b><font color='#000000' face='MS Sans Serif' size='3'>Option2</font></b></td>" +
         "</tr>" +
    "<tr>" +
         " <td height='35'></td>" +
         " <td colspan='2' height='35'>" +
         "     <div align='left'>" +
    " <br>" +
    "     <p><font color='#FF0000'>Select option's from above.</font></p>" +
    "</div>" +
         "</td>" +
              "</tr>" +
    "</table>";
    editLayer( fullText, lyr );
    showLayer( lyr );
    editLayer and showLayer will display table on JSP....remeber to call the layer "1yr"
    // Show the visible layer that is passed into the function
    function showLayer( _obj ){
    if ( ns() ){
         _obj.visibility = "show";
    } else {
         _obj.style.visibility = "visible";
    // Write the layer with the text in the parameters
    function editLayer( txt, obj ){
    var doc;
    if ( ns() ) {
         doc = self.document._obj.document;
         doc.write( _txt );
         doc.close();
    } else {
         doc = _obj;
         doc.innerHTML = _txt;
         doc.document.close();

  • I need a little help help with the Spreadsheet 9 ActiveX control

    Here's the situation: I want to import data from an Excel file to the MS Office Spreadsheet 9.0 ActiveX control on the LV front page. I can retrieve the data just fine but I can't get it to display in the control on the front page. I can select a range and when I try to write to the Value property I find that I cannot. The problem seems to be the Value property itself cannot handle 2-D data arrays. I can select a 2D range and write a single value which gets written to every cell in the range but when I read the data I get only the first cell in the range and an error if I try to caste the Variant output to a 2D array.
    I've noticed a Value2 property for the range when actually working with Excel but I haven't been able to determine where or if it exists for the Spreadsheet 9 control. I've attached a little test program to better show what I'm experiencing/talking about. Anyone have any suggestions on this? It seems like it would be possible or else why have the control there but I haven't found a way around it. Thanks in advance.

    Hey Gary,
    What version of MS Office does the 9.0 ActiveX control come with. I have version 11.0 here. I could get your program working on my computer but I had to reinitialize the activex control to the 11.0 control. I also had to reselect the properties. All the properties are essentially the same except Value. In this ActiveX version, I see the Value2 property (the Value property does not exist). And your method of reading and writing to the Value2 property handles 2D arrays.
    If you can tell me what version of Office you are using, I will try to find a computer with that version and try your program.

    Most of the computers have Office 2000 which uses the Value property and the Spreadsheet 9.0 control. I too have been able to duplicate it ona computer with Office 2000 (Spreadsheet 11.0). I think it may just be a functionality of the Excel version though for some reason if I use Excel and go through the song and dance with the methods and properties, I get to the Value2 property.
    After writing that it seems weird that using Excel properties and methods gets me to the point where I can select the Value2 method and read/write accordigly, but with the Spreadsheet 9.0 control (which, I assume is simply embedding Excel in the app) I get to a different set of properties. Perhps Spreadsheet 10 (or 11) is on the computer but not showing up? That's the only sensible conclusion I can come to, though it seems weird for it to not show up on multiple computers which effectively kills that idea anyway.
    Anyway. thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Overlay an item over an activex control and/ or disabling the mouse scroll wheel

    There seems to be several references in the discussion forum to placing a picture control over an activex item to prevent the activex item being selected etc.
    The thing is, I can't seem to do it: the activex control is always on top, no matter what I do and no matter what control, or decoration I use.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Failing that, is there another way of stopping the user getting access to the activx control?
    Essentially what I want to do is stop them accidentally scrolling through the control's pages with the mouse scroll wheel. I've stopped them accessing the scroll bars, BUT it is still possible to use the scroll wheel unfortunately.
    Something else I tried was a tab control: placing the activex control on a page and then trying to make the page on top transparent. Needless to say that didn't work....
    Andy

    Important questions:
    What ActiveX control are you using?
    I'm using the PDF activex control to display a PDF on the front panel of my VI.
    What version of LabVIEW are you using?
     I'm using LabVIEW 7.1
    What "control pages" are you talking about?
    The pages of the PDF: it has several pages. If a mouse is held over it the user can scroll using the scroll wheel, or if they right click they can access the Adobe menu.
    It's these that I'd like to inhibit them doing.
    Thanks

  • Need help inserting ActiveX Control

    We provide an ActiveX control to talk to an instrument. We sell very few of these but nonetheless I've been asked to upgrade the LabVIEW sample (even though it only accounts for 10% of our few sales). I did make a sample a long time ago for labiew 5.1 but was going to make a new one for labview 2011 (as its too difficult to import the sample from 5.1).
    For testing (and that I'm not releasing any proprietary stuff) I wrote a simple ActiveX control that contains some of the features of the instrument control. This includes going to a particular position, scanning between two positions and receiving events (data, message and status). I was very easily able to write a quick demo in VB6 and C#2010 but I've forgotten everything about labview (except I remember it was relatively complicated for a non-graphical programmer like myself to use an activex control back in the 5.1 days).
    I would like to make a simple demo (like the one for C#)
    On a button press it starts a collect, first taking the two values from the appropriate inputs as the range (sets the StartPos and StopPos properties) then calls BeginRun.
    On another button press it "goes to" a position (calls GoToPos with a parameter from another numeric input).
    Receives OnStateChanged events and displays the enumerated type in a string indicator. This event is fired when the state is changed (eg. by calling BeginRun).
    Receives OnData events and displayes the position and value from the event in an indicator. This event is fired during a run for each sample.
    Receives OnMessage events and displays the message string in an indicator. This event can occur any time - in this sample I'm firing it randomly about once per second and its just sending the time as a string.
    Events are asynchronous - calling BeginRun returns immediately but events will follow later.
    Can anyone help me build this simple example - I've forgotten all the (little) labview I did back in 2003. I've attached the ActiveX control (XTestControl.ocx) a very simple VB6 sample, a better compiled C#2010 sample and my fiddling, far-from-complete LabVIEW 2011 sample. Everything is 32-bit (although I'm running on 64-bit Win7).
    There's a lot I don't understand about LabVIEW and the time I've already spent on this so far probably means several years ROI for the small company I work for because of the low volumes.
    TIA

    Thanks for your reply nathand and taking the time to look at my sample.
    Yes, it is a very ligh VI because it doesn't have to do much. I want to numeric inputs that set the StartPos and StopPos properties of the ActiveX control and then call the BeginRun method (ie. 3 controls). Data is returned in the OnData event asynchronously and displayed (ie. 1 numeric display). I'me used to programming with the likes of VB and C# where events are a matter of course and you just select the event you want to code for and write the code so all this talk of "separate VIs" and "User Parameter List" is all confusing to me. The VB and C# samples I provided literally took me 15 minutes to write both and I won't tell you how embarrassingly long I spent playing with labview. From memory in (HP) VEE it was relatively easy to make a basic demo using our ActiveX control but we won't be supplying a demo for that this time (or possibly the old demo still works). This is supposed to be such a basic labview sample being provided by the vendor (our small company) as you suggested.
    I downloaded the 30-day LabVIEW 2011 trial, which I was assuming had proper "event structure" but its counter-intuitive to use.
    I've modified the attached control slightly (put a Run button on and a CallBack VI thingy) but I don't know how to wire up the run button to do something when clicked nor the event output to the (string) display.
