Need to format a vpn log text file into a format that can be written directly to a SQL table

I am trying to do two thing inside of powershell
1. Take a vpnlog text file  "C:\temp\ps3\vpnlogs\testlog.txt" formatted as such and be able to directly add the columns to a sql table
"Number" "Date" "Time" "Interface" "Origin" "Type" "Action" "Service" "Source Port" "Source" "Destination" "Protocol" "Rule"
"Rule Name" "Current Rule Number" "User" "Information" "Product" "Source Machine Name" "Source User Name"
"291" "29Nov2013" "23:59:00" "" "A*****" "Log" "Log In" "" "" "111.*.*.* " "A*****" "" "" "" "" "pet*******"
"VPN internal source IP: 192.*.*.*; reason: disconnected from gateway" "Security Gateway/Management" "" ""
2. Remove the empty colums in this text file so that I can then find a way to upload only colums that have a column name directly up to the sql table via a powershell script .
SO basically import txt file format it into colums that have data that can then be directly written to a sql table without me having to manually create the columns in the table. if this worked correctly the sql table would be uploaded with the colums and
data from sql.
I can do the upload portion with the below listed powershell command however when I import the following file into powershell I have to manually import the testlog.txt into excel then save as a csv to upload... not to mention I had to
manually create the columns in the sql table so that it imports correctly.
get-content "C:\temp\ps3\vpnlogs\testlog.txt" I can not get the data to format correctly without manually importing it into the logfiledata.csv.
$dt=Import-Csv-Path"C:\temp\ps3\vpnlogs\logfiledata.csv"|Out-DataTable
Write-DataTable -ServerInstance"myserver"-Database"mydata"-TableName"dbo.VPNLOGS"-Data$dt
I also have tried this to format the text file but it's not working the way I thought it should, but I don't want to have to create the .CSV file if I can avoid it I would rather take the data in powershell formatted and use the colums to
get-content"C:\temp\ps3\vpnlogs\testlog.txt"|Foreach-Object{
($_
-replace'"',',')
} |Set-Content"C:\temp\ps3\vpnlogs\testlog2.csv"
| Import-Csv
"C:\temp\ps3\vpnlogs\testlog2.csv"|selectNumber,date,time,interface,origin,type,action,service,"source
port",source,destination,protocol,rule,"rule
name","current
rule number",user,information,product,"source
machine name","source
user name"
"Number" "Date" "Time" "Interface" "Origin" "Type" "Action"
"Service" "Source Port" "Source" "Destination" "Protocol" "Rule" "Rule Na
me" "Current Rule Number" "User" "Information" "Product" "Source Machine Name" "Source User Name"
"473" "4Dec2013" "23:59:01" "" "AAMESXF604" "Log" "Log In" "" "" "ip72-198-30-53.ok.ok.cox.net" "AAMESXF604" "" "" ""
"" "usthompst"

Thank you Mjolinor this seems to have given me a good output, now do you know of a method using the out-datable  and write-datatable that I can use to directly upload the objects and data. Really I do not want to have to create another file at this
point I would like to take all of this info and now write it directly to my SQL-Table...

  • Image formats that can be used directly in PDF

    Hi,
after severel hours of searching google, discussion boards and the PDF reference, I could not find an answer, so hopefully you guys can help me .
I have written my own little PDF exporter and want to include images. I figured out to include jpegs directly, with the DCTDecode filter.
Are there other image formats, which can be included in PDF directly?
I read somewhere, that GIFs - for example - has to be parsed to get the pixel data and than must be compressed again to be inserted in the PDF file. Therefore it would be easier for me to convert GIF to JPEG with an external program and then insert the JPEG into the PDF. Or is there an advantage, to include the GIF like described above?
What about BMP, TIFF and other image formats?
Is it possible to insert image files lossless into PDF?
I know, lots of questions but i would be really glad if someone can help me .
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards, Maecky

    Hi,
    thanks for your answer.
What exactly do you mean with "unwrap"? Should i just get the data without header of the image file and put it into the pdf stream? Otherwise i would have to decompress the format, or am I wrong?
    Thanks,
    kind regards, maecky

  • Need to read data from a text file

I need to read data from a text file and create my own hash table out of it. I'm not allowed to use the built in Java class, so how would I go implementing my own reading method and hash table class?

It's not possible to read from a file without using classes from the core API*. You'll have to get clarification from your instructor as to which classes are and are not allowed.

    Thanks in advance

We didn't say it doesn't work. We said it isn't supported.
There are a number of other ways to make a PDF. The one which would
give the most control is if your application directly printed to GDI,
controlling the font directly. This could print to Adobe PDF.
You could look for an application that gives control of font for
    printing.
You could use a text-to-PostScript system and distill the result. You
    could even look for a non-Adobe text-to-PDF.
Working in the unsupported and dangerous world you chose, the font
size for text conversion is set (and this is very bad design from
Adobe) in the settings for Create PDF > From Web Page. There is no API
    to this.

  • Read text file into clob column

Dear Oracle users and Oracle support,
I have a text file that includes hundreds of data entries. The format is below. What I need to do is read each entry (
<DATALOAD ................</DATALOAD>) into the CLOB column as a table record. Then create a loop in the table to convert each record into XML data type. I have general idea on how to convert CLOB to XML. The difficult part to me is read the each entry in the text file to CLOB table. Please let me know what technique I should use. Any recommendation and sample code are welcome! I appreciate!

Just reading it into a CLOB to process is not likely to be the best way.
If each line of the file is a record, then you're likely to be better using something like External Tables.
If it's a structured XML file, then it can be read using CLOB functionality into an XMLTYPE datatype and then shredded down into relational table structures.
Be more clear in what your requirements are and we can help you better.

And I'm telling you that this is a bad option. You would use the vaccum cleaner to wash the dishes, would you?
If you for some reason would do this task in SQL Server, you would implement it as a CLR stored procedure, but from what you have said I don't understand why you would do this server-side at all.
What's wrong with the current C# solution?

  • How to import data from a text file into a table

    Hello,
I need help with importing data from a .csv file with comma delimiter into a table.
I've been struggling to figure out how to use the "Import from Files" wizard in Oracle 10g web-base Enterprise Manager.
I have not been able to find a simple instruction on how to use the Wizard.
I have looked at the Oracle Database Utilities - Overview of Oracle Data Pump and the Help on the "Import: Files" page.
Neither one gave me enough instruction to be able to do the import successfully.
Using the "Import from file" wizard, I created a Directory Object using the Create Directory Object button. I Copied the file from which i needed to import the data into the Operating System Directory i had defined in the Create Directory Object page. I chose "Entire files" for the Import type.
Step 1 of 4 is the "Import:Re-Mapping" page, I have no idea what i need to do on this page. All i know i am not tying to import data that was in one schema into a different schema and I am not importing data that was in one tablespace into a different tablespace and i am not R-Mapping datafiles either. I am importing data from a csv file.
For step 2 of 4, "Import:Options" page, I selected the same directory object i had created.
For step 3 of 4, I entered a job name and a description and selected Start Immediately option.
What i noticed going through the wizard, the wizard never asked into which table do i want to import the data.
I submitted the job and I got ORA-31619 invalid dump file error.
I was sure that the wizard was going to fail when it never asked me into which table do i want to import the data.
I tried to use the "imp" utility in command-line window.
After I entered (imp), i was prompted for the username and the password and then the buffer size as soon as i entered the min buffer size I got the following error and the import was terminated:
    C:\>imp

Please show me the easiest way to import a text file into a table. How complex could it be to do a simple import into a table using a text file?
We are testing our application against both an Oracle database and a MSSQLServer 2000 database.
I was able to import the data into a table in MSSQLServer database and I can say that anybody with no experience could easily do an export/import in MSSQLServer 2000.
I appreciate if someone could show me how to the import from a file into a table!

If the text file happens to use a different style, like DOS's carriage-return+linefeed (\r\n), it needs to be converted. The read() method does that, and it saves the info about the line separator style in the Document so the write() method can re-convert it.

    Hello all. Happy holidays!
I'm trying to import a text file into a SQL Server table, and I get the error below when it gets to a row (row 264) that has null in the last column. I'm guessing the null jumbles up the delimiters somehow. The nulls are not errors, and I need to import

    WeeLass

    Hi WeeLass,
The error that” Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "XYZ" returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".” is generally error message, and the error indicates
that there is data type mismatch issue between the input columns and the output columns.
Based on your description, the issue is that you trying to convert a column contains empty value from string to integer data type for the output column "XYZ" in Flat File Source [1]. Please note that we cannot type an empty value as integer data
type column value, so the error occurs.
To fix this issue, just as you did, we should convert the data type for the output column "XYZ" in Flat File Source [1] back to DT_WSTR or DT_STR, then use a derived column task to replace the current column (UBPKE542). But the expression should
    be like below:
    LEN(TRIM(UBPKE542)) > 0 ? (DT_I8)UBPKE542 : NULL(DT_I8)
In this way, the data type of the column in SQL table would be int, and the empty value would be replaced with NULL.
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

  • How do I import an InDesign tagged text file into multiple pages and export as .ps or .pdf using Jav

I have an InDesign tagged text file I've translated from .xml. I need to automate the following steps:
1 - access specific InDesign template (eg. ABC_template.ind)
2 - import tagged text file into InDesign
3 - autoflow text to END of document (normally around 3-5 pages)
4 - save document as either .ps or .pdf file
5 - where the input file stub name matches the output stub name (eg., OrigName.txt outputs as OrigName.pdf).
I would like to completely automate this whole process using JavaScript (because I don't know anyone that knows AppleScript). I've automated the first part using a perl script. I've been trying to find sample snipits of JavaScript that would do one or more of the items listed above, but am having a hard time finding what I need.
Please, I'm desperate!! Can any of you InDesign scripting guru's out there help me??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Is there a way to import data in a spreadsheet or text file into Contacts v7?

Is there a way to import data in a spreadsheet or text file into Contacts v7? I have a list of about 500 people and their email addresses in FileMaker Pro that I can export in a number of formats that can be manipulated. Is there any way to get those contacts into Contacts without entering them one at a time?

I have answered my own question. I exported the data from a layout in FileMaker Pro containing the required fields as tab separated text. That produced a .tab file that Contacts wanted nothing to do with. However, when I changed the .tab in the file name to .txt, Contacts accepted it as a file to import (File/Import). I then identified the field in Contacts in which the data in each field in the txt file was to be placed and in it went! The trick was changing .tab to .txt in the name of the file exported by FileMaker Pro.

  • How can i feed a text file into a Hashtable?

    Hi,
im working on my third year project, im new to java and am struggling a little with writing the code.
I need to feed a text file into my program and insert it into a hashtable. I presume i'll be using an input stream to feed the file in, how do i go about placin the text file into a hashtable??
    please help!

ok, so im trying to code an authorship attribution
program. the first part of the program need to
compare a text file A (list of words), with another
two text files B and C. Compare how? Do you want to know how many times certain words from list A appear in files B and C?
The words in list A will first be compared to those
in list B and than list C. I was wondering if there
was a way of inserting file A,A Map is a list of key/value pairs, so what do you mean by inserting here? What are you inserting? What would the keys and values here be?
    followed by B,
comparing the two files.....than inserting file C and
    comparing it with A??
Does this make sense??Not quite, but it might just be me.
