Could you kindly let me know how to do this in Advanced .Mac preference? I ahve the same issue, as I lost all my contacts in my address book in my mac, but I have them in the .mac

  • Once on iCloud how do you recover lost address book data?

After moving to iCloud my wife suddenely lost all her contact info earlier today.  When opening Address Book on her iMac & iPad all contact info was gone.  We signed on to iCloud.com and it was gone there too.  For some reason it was still on her iPhone.  I tried to force a merge from her phone by shutting off iCloud Contacts; selecting to keep data on the device; then turned it back on hoping to get the 'merge data' option.  I didn't get that message and sure enough in a few seconds the address book on her phone went empty.
So, this raised the question about where do I recover the data from?  I looked in finder on her iMac under user/Library/Addplication Support/Address Book - there were some files and directories there, but nothing that looked like it was loaded with contact info. I'm assumming once she moved to iCloud the detail is no longer stored locally in OS X?
I went into System Prefs and shut off iCloud Contacts on the iMac, opened Time Machine, went back a week ago (prior to iCloud) and found contact info in the user/Library/Addplication Support/Address Book directory and restored the entire directory.  Opened Address Book and it was populated with data.  turned on iCloud Contacts and selected the 'Merge' data option which then populated her other devices.
So, the question is - what if it had been longer than a week - where is this data (and probably calendar data too!) being backed up and where (and how) would you restore it from if it did suddenly turn up missing?

So this gets back to my original question... not sure if bgbrobru is running Time Machine backups, but even if he is, I don't think the Address Book data is recoverable (unless you go back to a pre-iCloud backup) because it is no longer stored locally.
If I understand correctly the only thing we can do going forward is to run a periodic 'manual' export of iCal and Address Book data to insure we have a backup?  In the event I do something stupid and mistakingly delete something or - like what happened to my wife today - the entire address book (or calendar entries) just disapear, we are screwed?  I guess this would also apply to email stored in folders on iCloud?
Seems there should be some way to capture the iCloud data in a Time Machine (or some other mechanism) backup?
    Sorry Rick but that's incorrect,
Here's a shot of the folder it lives in and the path to it, Time Machine backs it up.

  • Recovering Lost Address Book

I've recently run into some trouble with syncing my address book with google contacts and ended up losing all my contacts. It sucked, but I kept my cool and eventually found that all my original contact information seems to be contained within the AddressBook-v22.abcddb within my /Users/bbarcelo/Library/Application Support/AddressBook directory. Needless to say I've got this file backup now and will be smarter about my address book in the future but my real question is this: My old (deleted) contact information appears to have been retained in the previously mentioned file but I can only view it using nano in the terminal. If I try to view it with an SQLite viewer I don't see the information contained in any specific table. Now, it's possible I could parse through this by hand but I was really hoping someone out there knew of a way I could extract everything to a readable format without all the jargon text and such...

sorry, i did misunderstand. then you do need to read that file. I don't know how to do that if Sqlite doesn't work. but for the future, as i said, this is the wrong file to save. it's rather hard to get info from.
the following trick worked for me. i suggest you try it. create a new user account and copy that file to the corresponding place in the home directory on that user account. then start address book on that account. it will read the database file (provided it's not corrupted) and recreate metadata from it. you can then export the contacts in one giant vcard as I suggested and then import that card into the address book on your main account.

  • I have lost Address book app how do I recover it please. Thank you.

I have lost Address book app how do I recover it please. Thank you.

No kids or pets --- just me!I don't think there is too much mystery about the deletion of Address Book on my laptop.  I was trying to get it up-to-date from my desktop computer and as that is Lion and the laptop is sitll Leopard (all these ***** cats!) I must have trashed the laptop Address Book, then tried to install the one from Lion but, of course it couldn't be installed - wrong system!  By then I had lost Address Book!!  Horrors!  I then lifted it from my husband's computer (Panther or something!) et voila!   But I had expected to have all HIS names and address in Address Book when I opened it but -- not so, his were not there and mine were!   Don't ask!!
    Thanks again and regards, Lecia

  • Lost Address Book and Mail info after system sofware reinstall

Help! I had to reload the system software after a major crash to open up the Machine. Now the Mail and Address Book info has disappeared. The "Previous System" folders are there but I've no idea where to find the files.

    Thanks
I found files. My previous account was called pop3blahblahblah, after the reinstall the new folder is a new name. Do I delete all the files in the new mail folder and replace with all the old ones?

  • Syncing to a new computer (and keeping iCal and Address Book info intact)

Well, after a few years my old iMac G5 finally died. Fortunately, I was able to grab all of the information off the hard drive and load it onto an external. I have a new iMac and I'm pretty happy.
However, I also have an 64GB iPod Touch that is currently synced to the computer that just died. Now, I want to sync this iPod to my new computer. Now, I have all of my music, photos, and apps and such on my new computer so I'm not trying to pull that off of my iPod. What I'm more concerned about is my iCal and Address Book. I use both often and have a lot of information in them. My new computer has none of this information.
So, what do I need to do sync my iPod with my new computer without losing my iCal and Address Book info? I still have access to the data on my old hard drive, but not the computer itself (if that helps). Hopefully I can get some help soon because I really want to try out OS4...
(Also, I want to make sure that I transferred my Apps correctly. I moved the files I found from my old iTunes folder onto my new iTunes. They seem to show up okay and have received updates but I wanted to make sure that when these apps synced to the iPod again that they would work okay. I'm most concerned about purchased apps and apps that have saved data like Plants Vs. Zombies).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod will be erased during the first sync.
Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

  • Moving mail settings and address book info

I just took delivery of a new ibook G4. I used Mail and Address Book on my old iMac G3. Now I would like to transfer all of those email settings and address book info onto my new computer. How do I do that? When I click on the Mail icon in the dock, it takes me right to a wizard for setting up my email. It's already set up in my old computer. Isn't there any way I can just transfer this information?

    Hi Chuck
If your iMac matches the following list - yes!
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
The Migration Assistant application on your new iBook (found in the Utilities folder) will step you through transferring all your old user files - including mail and address book contacts - onto the new machine. You'll need a firewire cable to connect the two computers when prompted.

  • Retreiving mail and address book info to new machine

    Hi,
My main machine, the iMac is in for repairs. Before it went I backed up the entire HD to an external HD.
I'm now working from an iBook. I'd like to recover past mail messages and address book info from the external HDD to the iBook.
I have imported mailboxes, as advertised, but the messages within those boxes did not import.
I have imported address book info, but they were not my addresses (or rather very few of them were) Mostly they were for Apple employees!
I didn't separately back-up or otherwise archive msgs and addresses, just copied the entire iMac HDD to the external.
Can anyone give me an idiot's guide to moving my msgs and addresses to the iBook from the external HDD?
    Thx in advance.

for the email issue, once you had imported the accounts did u rebuild the inbox? u will be surprised what may appear.
My best way for moving mail from one machine to another is just to copy the mail folder in the users library and the com.apple.mail.plist and just reopen mail and it will apppear. Same with address book, copy from library the folder called Address Book Plug-Ins, inside Application Support, the fiolder called Address Book and the com.apple.AddressBook.plist.
Otherwise a simple way of doing the address book is just to back up your database from the file menu before you swap computers and then use the restore from backup option.
    Hope that helps

I need to transfer my address book from a Sony Ericsson K810i to a Blackberry 8120. Please can you help as I'm having great trouble doing it! Thanks

    Hi there!
The device switch wizard is available for many non-BB devices...see this KB:
KB05459 How to use the Switch Device Wizard to switch from another smartphone to a BlackBerry smartphone
If your old device is not compatible with the wizard, then you need to find out if the old device can export the data you desire so that the BB can import it:
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
If you are already using a compatible desktop PIM with your old device, then the RIM software can import from the PIM and bypass the old device completely:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
KB17022 How to configure synchronization settings for BlackBerry Desktop Manager
If that does not work, then please return to these forums (http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/) and register an account so that we can provide you with direct assistance.

    Hello hbell,
is there any reason that you do not want
to upgrade to v10.5.? Suggest you call
    1-800-275-2273 Apple Support. Automated call
yet if you call back you can get in touch with an
Apple Software Specialist. They may be able to ship
you Leopard so that you can synch your new iPhone
to you own computer. Have the serial numbers of your
Mac and iPhone written down and ready for them.
As far as transferring data to your husbands MacBook
so that you can sync your iPhone on it I am really not
sure. Seems like a lot of trouble to get your data onto
    your iPhone.
    Good Luck,

  • Simplest way to move address book info from Tiger to Leopard machine?

I recently acquired a white MacBook that runs leopard 10.5.6.
I've not found an easy way to move my Tiger address book info to the new machine.
I tried copying the address book from tiger onto a dvd and subsequently a flash drive, but leopard doesn't want any part of that.
There is likely a way to export the vcards from the tiger app., but the help menu isn't much help in that regard.
    All help appreciated.

you can copy the folder /users/username/library/application support/address book from the old computer to the new one. then start address book and it will look like it did on the old computer. another option is to make one vcard. start AB on the tiger machine, select all your contacts and drag them to the desktop. that will make one big vcard with all the contacts. move it to the other mac and import it to AB there.

Depends a lot on when, what you have done since (and probably a good idea to not use the computer and devices). Might want to search for data recovery, Data Rescue 3 is handy with Mac and PC computers, not sure about the rest.

  • HT204150 Hi, I made a mistake by allowing facebook to download all my contacts in my address book. Now i need to clean my address book and keep only my original contacts. If i do it on my macbook, will it reflect on my iphone?

Hi, I made a mistake by allowing facebook to download all my contacts in my address book. Now i need to clean my address book and keep only my original contacts. If i do it on my macbook, will it reflect on my iphone? Or will my iphone redownload all the contacts i deleted when i connect it to my macbook or through the cloud?
when working with icloud, is there a primary device (macbok, ipad...) on which if the changes are made, they reflect on all other devices?

I see.  If you are syncing contacts with iCloud on both your Mac and your iPhone, deleting a contact from either device will delete them from icloud.com and all other devices.
What's really going on with iCloud is that your contacts actually reside on the iCloud server.  Your Mac and iPhone are merely reading the current contact list as it exists on the server.  When you delete a contact (or make any other change) on either device, you are making these changes on the server.  As a result, all other devices "syncing" contacts with the same iCloud account will read this change.  When you log onto icloud.com, you are viewing the server from your browser.

  • Can I import address book info from mac 10.5 to 10.7

Can I import address book info from Mac 10.5 to 10.7?   It tells me "You can't use this version of the application Address Book with this version of Mac OS X.  You have Address Book 4.0.6."

Try moving just the folder at Mac HD/users/~/Library/Application Support/Address Book from 10.5 to the same location in 10.7.
Or in Address Book on the old Mac go to the File menu and choose Export Contacts Archive, copy that file to the new Mac and in Address Book on the new Mac go to File menu Import, browse to the archive file on the new Mac and choose it.
