Need to update file permissions on multiple items

I have 15 jpeg images in a folder on my desktop.  For everyone I want to update file permissions to Read & Write for all items.
I updated file permissions for the folder.
I can update permissions for each image, but how do I do that for all 15 images simultaneously?
Thanks.
Owen

From the folder's settings, click the button with the gear icon and choose to apply the settings to the enclosed items.

  • File Permissions Problem - Multiple Network Users

    My wife & I have a home office network setup for our business, and are having trouble with shared files over the network. We're both on Macs, and all of our client files reside on an internal hard drive in my Mac Pro. I've set her up as a "Sharing Only" user on my computer (which matches the username & password of her account on her iMac), and have properly setup file sharing in both the System Preferences, and in the directory itself that we want shared. I've also applied the permissions to all files & folders below the main folder, and she can view, open and save whatever she needs and it works great.
    *Here's where the problem comes in...* If either of us create a NEW file or folder, the other person doesn't have WRITE access to it (we can browse and open it fine). The second I go to update a file she created, it won't let me over-write it, and I have to go into the permissions for that specific file and give myself Read/Write access. I've experimented with "Groups", and assigned both of us a special group, and applied that group access to that directory, but it doesn't make any difference when a NEW file or folder is created - it doesn't copy the parent directory permissions to itself, it makes one of us the owner, and nobody else has access.
    Is there any way around this? We're both constantly creating new files, and it really hampers our workflow to have to keep re-applying file permissions every time one of us creates something new. Ideally, any new files created within that main client folder would automatically have the same permissions as the parent directory. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

    you can keep those files on a separate partition on the hard drive and turn off ownership for that partition.
    the only other way i know how to deal with this is using inherited ACLs.
    run the following terminal command from your account on the mac pro.
    chmod -R +a "username allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" /path/to/shared/folder
    put your short username instead of username in the above. also, instead of /path/to/shared/folder put the unix path to the folder you are sharing. you can get this path by dragging that folder to a terminal window.
    repeat the command with your wife's username instead of yours.
    warning: this will work with newly created files in the shared folder and with the files you COPY to that folder. it will not work with files that you MOVE to that folder.

  • Why does itunes constantly need to update files?

    I update my files manually on my iPod touch. Whenever it is plugged in, every few minutes iTunes says, "updating files," and takes a moment to update, I suppose. But while it is doing this, my iTunes becomes unresponsive if I try to do anything; play or change a song, or make changes to artist, album, etc on any song. As I am constantly updating my files to include album name, art, and other things, it seems to become unresponsive and need to be restarted almost every time I use iTunes. This is very aggrivating and I don't know how to make it stop??

    Try posting in the iTunes forum.

  • Need iPod updater file

    With iTunes 7.0.2, it appears that the only way to get my iPod Shuffle 512MB updated (to v.1.1.4) is through iTunes.
    I simply can't. My system does not support having, on USB ports, an external hard drive, my iPod (and iTunes) and Internet access at the same time: it freezes hard.
    Otherwise, it used to work fine as long as I don't mix the iPod with the Internet access.
    I need to get the iPod Updater file before starting iTunes to update my iPod (unless I can update without iTunes). It used to work like this before :-/
    I tried solutions proposed on the Apple site like cleaning up the system to no avail. My situation is not specifically documented.
    Any help on this?
    TIA

    ... okaaaaaaay ...
    i can think of a workaround that might fit your circumstances. but it's a tad risky (in that it involves trying to "fix something that isn't broken").
    since you've got a first gen shuffle and you're wanting to drop the 1.1.4 firmware on there, you might be able to do it by downloading and running the iPod Shuffle reset utility:
    About the iPod shuffle Reset Utility
    ... using the utility to upgrade a shuffle isn't really what it's for. it's intended for cases in which normal restores aren't working. hence i'm a bit nervous about trying this in your case if your shuffle is otherwise perfectly functional.

  • HT3805 Can't open Aperture, says I need to check file permissions. What can I do?

    I was trying to add pictures to my Aperture library from another Aperture library in another account on the mac. When I dragged the file from the shared foder to Aperture it said it was merging libraries. I accidentally closed aperture while I was waiting. Now it will not allow me to open Aperture. The message says Aperture cannot access the library. To use the library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly. What can I do?

    Hold down the option and commnad key's while starting Aperture this will open the library first aid window. Select Repair Permissions and you should be ok.
    Post back if that doesn't fix your problem.

  • Need help setting up permissions on multiple user accounts

    Hi, here's what I'm trying to accomplish...
    I run a recording studio and would like to have a personal account that I work from and an engineer account that myself and other artists work from. From the second account I created I will open an audio project in cubase (which is possible because the file can be read), then I will try to save it and of course it says I cannot edit the file. I can change the permissions on the file (or all the files in the directory) which will then give me access, however once I create a new file under this user account I am unable to save it back in my main account. I would like an option for a directory to be able to be read and written to by both users automatically regardless of where the file was originally created. I've tried setting up shared folders to work this way, but to no avail, once a file is created the option to read/write the file is automatically set to only the creator not any other accounts. Please let me know what I am missing, I've searched endlessly for this, but came up with no results.
    Thank You!
    Jared

    If you're interested in more suggestions, here's mine. The disk image idea will work, but it makes backup more complicated. Create a new folder in some existing public folder such as /Users/Shared to hold the projects. Decide whether you want to allow read/write access to all users, or just to some. If only some, create a new group in the Accounts preference pane and add the users to it.
    Download the application Sandbox. Launch it in your administrator account. Click the "Inspect folder" button and navigate to the folder you just created. There should be one line in the window representing an entry in the access control list (ACL). Edit the entry by clicking the pencil icon. Make the entry type "Allow access." Make the group "staff" or the group you just created. Enable all the access permissions you want, and make sure everything is inherited. Save the entry and quit Sandbox. Now copy -- don't move -- the projects into the folder.

  • Need to update Object permissions for a form in the form designer

    Hi Experts,
    I created a new form and attached to a process definiton.
    Later created a new version and changed some properties for the attributes.
    somehow I missed the object permissions for the system administrator. not even a single permission is checked out of "Allow Insert, Allow Update and Allow Delete". I tried to assign the permissions by creating a new verion. when i try to save it is saying " YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH PERMISSIONS TO ADD THIS OBJECT". I tried to assign the permission for the form to the SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS group from web console but, there also I got the same error. can anyone please help me to change the Object permissions if you have come across this problem.
    Edited by: 804064 on Oct 21, 2010 6:07 AM

    If I import the older version of the form, The permissions are back.
    the second alternate solution is
    Export the form and in the XML edit the following values
    Just change “0” to “1” for insert, update and delete.
    <DataObjPermission>
    <SEL_DELETE_ALLOW>1</SEL_DELETE_ALLOW>
    <SEL_UPDATE_ALLOW>1</SEL_UPDATE_ALLOW>
    <SEL_UPDATE>1289570464000</SEL_UPDATE>
    <SEL_INSERT_ALLOW>1</SEL_INSERT_ALLOW>
    <UGP_KEY UserGroup = "SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS"/>
    </DataObjPermission>

  • HELP! Corrupted update file??

    Power cycle all your network hardware (router and/or modem). Uninstall ESO. Re-install fully from disk. Then download the update.

    So I bought Elder Scrolls Online collectors imperial edition hard copy (disk) and when trying to download the game it finishes the update and when I open the game it gives me this message "Cannot continue using the application. The data for the following application is corrupted. Delete the application from the ps4, and then insert disk again." Yesterday my mother in law brought her disk for us to try, same exact disk, different factory sealed box. It let me make an account, updated my trophy list and I payed for a few hours, but when trying to open the game today it said it needed the update file, as if it never installed to the system. I'm re-installing the update file to see if it kicks me out again. I need help!!!

  • CGI File Permissions

    I am trying to get a script going to handle forms on my web site. The readme part of the script advises that I need to change file permissions at the web site. Can I do this with Adobe GoLive CS2?
    I am using Adobe Golive cs2 on a computer with 2ghz processor, 500mg ram, XP os, 1+1 shared hosting
    Thanks

    GoLive is an FTP client. You can change permissions right in GoLive.
    While exploring your FTP space in GoLive, select the file, look at the Inspector, then look at the FTP Access tab.

  • After last Moutain Lion update, suddenly and sporadically I cannot move my files using my mouse.  I only get a "ghost" image.  Moving items to the trash is, of course no problem.  Does anyone have a solution?  I've updated my permissions...no go!

    Cannot move icon files using my mouse or cursor after installing Mountion Lion's last update.  After rebooting several times, this sometimes fixes the problem.  I've tried checking and updating my permissions, but this hasn't worked.  What's happening?  I haven't backed up so I can't go back to Lion.  Has this happened to anyone else?  What can I try?  Thanks!

    Try this:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Now download and install OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.3 (Combo).

  • Changing multiple file permissions - Applications folder

    After using migration assistant in Snow Leopard and then changing the username of my primary user, all third party apps in my Applications folder require me to enter the admin password when moving, updating with Sparkle, etc. They don't seem to have a primary owner.
    I saw the steps outlined here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1778969 for changing permissions on multiple files but I'm wary of doing this on the Applications folder.
    Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? I went through files individually and i'm still getting messed up permissions all over the place. Thanks!

    DO NOT use "apply to enclosed items" on the main Applications folder! Do not use it on any system created folders. they often have hidden ACLs and using this button would propagate the ACLs to everything inside. this is the case for the main Applications folder. there is no easy way to do what you want because Apple changed the permissions structure in Snow leopard and the default applications no longer have read+write access by admin users by default. I would suggest you don't mess with permissions on Applications. if you ever need to update a 3rd party application simply delete the existing copy in /Applications and put the new one in. it will have correct permissions.

  • How do I update grouping or description for multiple items?

    As the question implies, I would like to update information in the Grouping and Description fields for multiple items as a way to keep things organized. What I have discovered is that there are some quirks in the new Get Info window that were not in past implementations, which are completely inexplicable and nonsensical to me.
    For instance, when you open the Get Info window for an item that has no information in, for instance, the Grouping field, you will not see a Grouping input field, as in this screenshot. The Grouping field should be where the bottom arrow is. Notice also that the Description field is available. I will get back to that in a minute.
    If you manually double-click into the Grouping field on the main iTunes screen, you can enter the information there. Then, when you open the Get Info window, ta-dah! The field magically reappears, as in the screenshot below.
    The trouble comes when you want to edit this field for multiple tracks. If you select multiple tracks, and they do not all have the Grouping field already populated, the field does not appear. What this means is that you are forced to manually enter the information for every track! This is completely unacceptable when you need to edit information for, as in my case, 122 tracks. The following image shows the Get Info window that appears after selecting two items, one with the Grouping field manually populated, and one with no info in the Grouping field.
    Not only has the Grouping field disappeared, but the Description field, as well. Thanks, Apple, but I think I can decide for myself whether or not to populate these fields for multiple items. Let's get 'em back, huh?
    SO… does anyone know of any valid method for accomplishing this task? Without manually entering the same information in hundreds of fields? This is the future; computers are supposed to do these monotonous tasks for us, aren't they?
    Oh, please don't suggest Option-clicking to open the older, better, Get Info window, as Apple has decided that we should not have that option any longer. We apparently have to organize our music their way. Think different!

    The Add Field button was in the editors of 12.0.1 (where the new-style editors had a very "half-finished" feel)  - it is not there in 12.1.  Apple have determined which metadata fields should be available for each kind of media, with no option for the user to modify this.  In Apple's own words: "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item."
    The only options are:
    temporarily change the media kind (Options tab) to one that includes the field you want to add values to, enter those values, and then change the media kind back again
    make the relevant fields visible in an appropriate list view and edit values there - the big limitation being that you can only do this one item at a time
    I can see - to a degree - why Apple may have made some limitations so that metadata elements are available based on their relevance to different media kinds.  However, one of the issues mentioned above seems like a bug - if a single audiobook file can have a Description tab, I see no reason at all for that not to be available for multiple items of the same kind.
    If not already done so, report these issues and dissatisfaction with the "new" metadata editors in 12.1 (and the absence of a "back door" for the old-style ones) using Apple's iTunes feedback page.

  • Upload multiple files to a data item in sharepoint list

    The image above shows a list item with two pdf files attached to it.  This is an access databse that was pushed to this sharepoint list.  When we attached these files we used the "attach file" from the edit menu at the top of the page.
     They are put into a data item called "copy of sepration report", which I can't seem to find when I edit the list.  As a further on discussion of this we would like to be able to upload multiple items into their own data field.  I.E.
    one could be seperation report, and another could be accidents, and another would be disciplinary.  Each would have the capability of having multiple items uploaded to it.
    What am I missing????

    Since you can't attach document to list item field, you may need to think other way around. You can create a document library and have the document library all these fields (separation report, copy of separation report etc.). So instead of list item having
    the documents attached, the document library will have the fields attached. Also you can group the fields into two groups - fields that are not directly related to document and fields that are directly related to document. Then you can move the document related
    fields to document library and create another list with the non-related-to-document fields and linking this new list to document library using lookup

  • How to Update multiple items in other list using event handler?

    Hi All,
    If i update a item in a list, then i should update multiple items in another list need to be update. How to achive using event receivers?

    Hi Sam,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to update multiple items in another list when updated a list item.
    In the event receiver, you can update the multiple item using Client Object Model.
    Here is a code snippet for your reference:
    public override void ItemUpdated(SPItemEventProperties properties)
    string siteUrl = "http://sp2013sps/sites/test/";
    ClientContext clientContext = new ClientContext(siteUrl);
    List oList = clientContext.Web.Lists.GetByTitle("another list name");
    ListItem oListItem = oList.GetItemById(1);
    oListItem["Title"] = "Hello World Updated!";
    oListItem.Update();
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    Best regards,<o:p></o:p>
