Neo2, ram "thingie" broken, should I be worried?

Well, I dont know know the word for those things that keep the ram in place, the two white "thingies" which you have to press/push to put the ramblock in place. One of them broke in my neo2 while I was taking one of the blocks out. There is still one left on the right side, I tried with the only one left and it looks like the block isnt going anywhere .. has this happened to anyone? I am a bit worried that my ram all of a sudden pop out in the middle of it all. It seems pretty much like its in place and not moving, but I am not at all confortable about it.

Yeah - think the thingiesa may be called retaining clips!
Anyway, not on my neo, but on my old ASUS board I have done this also - although in my case it was on an unused slot that was just too close to my AGP and I was pressing that HARD like you have to and the heatsink I had put onto the AGP card fouled on the white clip and snapped it off.
IMHO this should ONLY matter if you were shipping the PC, and you could still handle it easily enough by removing the RAM stick to ship.... Alternatively I betcha you could easily rig up another way to ensure it is held in place - thinking of adhesive pads or somesuch - anyway, I should not feel bad or worry....

  • Should I be worried after this?

Five days ago I made the mistake of eating cereal near my MacBook.  The bowl flipped and milk spilt all over the trackpad and keyboard.  If I had to estimate, probably a half of a cup of milk went on the trackpad and keyboard.  A lot of milk nonetheless.  After rapidly cleaning the milk off of the MacBook, I immediately powered it down and kept it off for three days.  On the third day I attempted to power it back on... and it worked!
It's working fine now.  At first a couple of keys were sticky but after pressing them a couple of times they were back to normal.  The backlit keyboard still works fine.  The trackpad, at first, was making a weird sound every time I tapped (not clicked) it but that has recently subsided.
I know this voids my AppleCare warranty.  I called Apple and asked if I could bring it in just for them to clean any milk residue left over on the insides.  They said they would not do this and referred me to a third party Mac repair center, compumac.
I think it's best I go there (when I'm on spring break, I'm away at school currently) and ask them to open it up and clean any milk residue left over.
So, my question is, should I be worried?  I'm backing up all of my schoolwork on a flash drive just in case.  I feel like my MacBook could die at any time.  I won't know for sure until I bring it to compumac.  I'm just shocked that it is working flawlessly after I spilt milk on it.  What do you guys think is the best route of action to take given my circumstances?

Cross your fingers and hope for the best until you can take it to the service provider. There will be limits to how effectively they can clean some of the parts, particularly the trackpad's innards. The labor-intensive nature of cleaning and the impossibility of being certain everything is really clean are the reasons why Apple doesn't even attempt cleaning — they simply replace all the parts that have gotten anything on them. Compumac may tell you they'll do the same thing. Even if they clean parts instead of replacing them, it will be expensive, and you (and they) won't be 100% sure they've gotten everything. Milk residue anywhere inside will draw moisture out of the air in humid environments and lead to corrosion, and half a cup of milk is enough to leave a lot of residue inside. Some of that is likely to remain even after the most thorough cleaning that can practically be done. So chances are that even if you have Compumac do their best, you've shortened the useful lifespan of your computer by some unpredictable amount.

  • My imac feels really hot, but works fine.  Should I be worried?

My imac feels really hot, but works fine.  Should I be worried??  My son plays a Star Wars game on line that seems to make it become really hot.  He says it skips during the game, so he gets out of the game.  When I check the computer, everything is fine.  Thanks!!

    alb,
What you are experiencing is fairly commom.  When our grandkids play games on our Mac, that's when things do get pretty warm, especially in the upper left hand corner where the CPU is.  The imac does rely heavily on "heat sink" technology instead of high speed, noisy fans to keep things running properly.  That being said, be sure to keep the vents that are located on the top back section of the computer screen, clean.  This will allow for proper venting. If your son plays computer games long and often, you can keep a small external fan running in back of the Mac. This may be appropriate in the hot Summer,  in a non air conditioned environment.

  • Popping sound - should I be worried

Hi, it seems I've been having a lot of issues with my MacBook recently but I have recently read many topics about a popping noise. When I turn my sound to silent, the speaker pops when the computer would normally make a sound if the sound was turned up, e.g. when I click 'Get Mail' in 'Mail' the speaker makes the popping noise although when I turn the volume up, it just makes the sound of receiving no mail. I'm wondering should I be worried and is there a way to stop this popping noise.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it ever do it on it's own when just idling? How about of you just click the mouse?
You might try booting from your Install DVD and see if it does the same thing there. If not, it's probably a software issue and an Archive and Install would probably fix it.
If it still does it, it may be a sound circuit issue on your logic board.

  • Mystery Files Being Transferred to me via Bluetooth--should i be worried?

Ok stupid mistake--had not realized Bluetooth was on. Today, randomly, someone kept trying to transfer a file to me. I declined each time and quickly turned Bluetooth off. I never use Bluetooth and have no idea why it was even turned on, but should I be worried about anything else that someone had access to? Any files, etc? Pardon novice questions but I want to make sure things are A-OK.
    Thanks all.

    Hello a:
The effective distance for Bluetooth transmissions is about 10 meters (30 feet). Wherever that was coming from, it had to be within that range (reduced for walls, etc). Perhaps from an apartment or even another room.
I would not worry about anyone accessing your system. If you have file sharing on and you allowed anyone to look at anything, there would be a possibility of something being read.
Incidentally, if it is not on, turn on your OS X built-in firewall.
Pardon novice questions but I want to make sure things are A-OK.
Ask away, people here enjoy helping others.

We have a MacBook Pro and it is usually quiet, but it sits in a stand to allow air under the bottom.
Just my opinion, but based on experience.
You are still eligible to purchase the longer term AppleCare warranty I think (3 years if my memory is correct). While it is an expense that you may never need, in my opinion, it is cheap insurance based on the cost to repair computers. I buy it and more than once it has paid for itself many times over. Not that Apple products are bad, but electronics do weird things at times.

As the title says, I occassionally have a few users that are not logged in, but MDSImporterWorker is doing it's thing. It seems persistent on a single account, but when I remove the account, it jumps to another account. I've reset passwords (strong passwords), but still going.

I had this problem after exposing my iphone to steam from the shower (don't ask why). Apparently, my iphone received "water damage" as indicated by the indicators after a visit to the genius bar. I just blew out the bottom of my iphone with air and over time the problem just went away. There's no way water touched the ports though so it seems the water damage indicator is a bit too sensitive.
Basically, if it the dock connector on your iphone gets wet/steamy/dirty then it can start acting up. Clean it like jagamac said and see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't, I would suggest trying a different charger. If the problem persists (using a geniune apple charger), then it's probably best to visit the genius bar.

my question is should i be worried, can he look at my activities online, my browsing history, my e-mail account and Etc. ? or can he mess up with my computer? what can he do with my ip number?

Rather than ignore your question as out of scope a brief reply is :
Short answer is no you need not worry. <br /> The laptop needs to disclose such information to be used on a network.
A longer answer is that you should be aware that what you do is almost never totally private.
By the way In many cases the IP Address will be dynamic and may occasionally change depending on your setup and how your provider works.
If you wish to be only slightly paranoid then using WiFi is itself inherently riskier than using a cable connection. Employers & Internet providers etc are likely to be able to track your use of their system.

My iPod was working just fine, and then when I went on YouTube, it flashed a blue screen (for like one minute) and then restarted and shut down. Should I be  worried? What happened?

My new iPod 5th gen did the same! I think it might be a YouTube and iOS connection glitch

Unless you have a company or school iPod, that profile was installed by an app you installed. It is likely that the app will no longer function when that date is reached. You can Google the name of the profile and that may provide some more information.

  • What does it mean when you get a pop up notification saying that a phone number has been associated with your iTunes account? And what does it mean when I don't know the number that is associating with my account? Should I be worried?

I got a notification stating that a number has been associated with my now old iTunes account and it is a number I do not recognize. Should I be worried at all?

Yes, if you don't bother to change your password. You may also want to seriously consider turning on two step authentication.

I imagine a ton of people are attempting to activate after the update, and the server is getting overloaded. Simple patience, maybe keep trying, and if possible, try a little later. Think of it as all those people lining up at Apple Stores + about a million more.
