I dropped my iPhone about 4-5 feet, should i be worried?

I was in a call and I dropped it in my home about 4 feet and all that happen was the sim card tray popped out alittle bit and then it said i had no sim but I pushed it back in and it was fine and seems fine. Should I be worried, might anything be broken inside?

I'll be extra carful. I didnt even realize because i had the headphones plugged in while in call and my phone was laying on the desk and I was sitting on a chair. I turn around then boop...I was about to cry lol I never dropped it before but I dont wanna break it.

I use my mac with AC adaptor 24/7, but the battery capacity drop 4% in 3 days... should I be worried? Is it some kind of hardware problem?

    Hi,
Well, it's only England, so no extreme temperatures, but I can see my breath in the morning when the heater hasn't been on! I didn't think it would be too cold, but seeing some other posts wondered if that could be a contributing factor, being the unusually cold weather here over the past two/three weeks.
I'm just panicking in case my battery or charger is about to go, just when I really need them.
I'll calibrate the battery -- which is something I wasn't aware of until reading this forum today.
The problem is, I'm traveling to the Caribbean to the opposite temperature problems may arise -- to hot and humid. I think I'll buy an extra battery to be on the safe side.
At least neither of you has said: 'oh dear, that sounds like a failing battery.' So I'm a little less panicked now. I'll keep an eye on it and post back if anything dire happens over the next few days.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
    Cheers,
    Tracy

  • So I dropped my iPhone about a month ago

MY screen is cracked, it still works but its cracked. I took it to the Apple Store and it would cost 199 to get it fixed. But i heard that they just give you a refurb one, and sometimes they even give it to you for free!
SO with the 3G S coming out, if I paid the 199 do you think I would get a refurb 3G S if I waited long enough, or would the Genius be more likely to replace it for free?

Wow, consider yourself lucky. I dropped and cracked mine in March and was told I would have to pay a lot more than that to have it fixed. I just waited hoping for a new edition and have just paid $499 for the early upgrade option from AT&T. I believe that is about the price that Apple would have charged me back in March.

  • I accidently dropped my iphone from about 15 feet in the air, had an otterbox gel case on it but phone will not come on, I can still hear the voice controls and will play music randomly by pushing the center bush on phone any clues on how to get phone wor

I recently dropped my iphone 4 from about 15 feet in the air, had an otter box gel case on it and it did not break the screen, but it will not come on, no back light but can still hear the voice contorl and randomly hear music when I push the center button, I have it password locked but can't see to unlock, any help out there

Just guessing here, but dropping your phone is probably the reason your screen or backlight doesn't work.
Only solution I see is to take it to Apple and buy and out of warranty iphone 4.

Good job with trying the two-button reset, that would have been my first advice for you.  Next, I suggest you take the reset/update a step further.  This step may risk losing the data on your phone, but since it's not working already, there may be no other solution.
On your computer, make sure you have internet acces and the latest version of iTunes installed.
Launch iTunes and connect the iPhone
Press and hold both sleep/wake and home buttons
After ten seconds, only release the sleep/wake button.
If you were successful, the iPhone screen should stay dark and the computer should display a popup.
If you see a message saying "iTunes has detected a device in recovery mode," then continue by clicking yes to each subsequent popup.
If the iPhone displays the silver Apple logo start over with step three of these instructions.

  • I dropped my iphone 5 in the toilet about 3 hours ago, I've had it in a bag of rice since. I tried turning it on, but nothing. How long should I wait before i go get a new phone?

If water drained out of your phone when you pulled it out of the toilet it is most likelyh dead.  Stop trying to turn it on or plugging it in.  You really need to put it in a bag of rice for 3-4 days and just leave it alone.  It will take that long to get it totally dry to see if it is going to come back to life.
Good luck, but since you tried to turn it on, and plugged it in while it was probably still wet inside I would not count on it surviving.

  • Dropped my iPhone

Ok, so I dropped my iPhone last night
It was a low drop, about 4 feet, and it only fell on a thick carpeted floor. But it's not working properly now. These are the problems that I'm getting:
    • the Home button does not respond at all, which means I can't do a reset or go back to the home screen. The only way to go back to home page is to switch off and then back on.
    • I keep getting a popup message saying something like "This device is not designed to work with iPhone ...". I don't know which device it's talking about (bluetooth is switched off), so I just click cancel.
    • I tried connecting to my iMac, thinking I can do a restore from iTunes. But the iMac displays a message like "this device is drawing too much power and the USB controller will be disabled ...". So I cannot connect to iTunes to do a restore or even charge the phone.
    • Trying to charge from a power outlet does not work either. The phone just does not charge.
    • if I switch off the iPhone (by holding down the power button for a few seconds), it switches off, but restarts again immediately.
    • the clicky sound that it makes when you use the slider buttons, sounds distorted so I suspect the speaker is also affected.
I'm very annoyed as it wasn't a bad drop and I really needed the phone this weekend as I'm providing weekend support to our business client, grr ...
I took it back to the O2 store where I purchased it from (when it was first released in UK), this morning. I was hoping they would issue me a replacement, but they didn't
They are sending it away for repairs and I'm told it will take about 7 days. In the meantime they issued me a loan phone (after taking £25 as a deposit) and believe me, after having used the iPhone, this old Nokia 1110 that they gave me feels so craaaapppp.
My only hope is that they will give me a brand new model as I've kind of lost faith in the one that I returned and if I got that back I'll always have doubts about it's reliability. Even before the fall I had concerns about it's battery performance as I was having to charge it almost everyday and that's with just having it on standby with no wifi etc.

No the phone wasn't insured as I figured 1 year's warranty should cover any issues. The £25 wasn't the excess, it was simply a refundable deposit for the loan phone that I'd been given while the iPhone gets repaired. At least that's what the O2 salesman told me.
I've been tracking the progress of the repairs. The repair centre received the phone yesterday and within an hour, the status had changed to 'Product Replaced'. I guess they either couldn't repair it or the repairs would have taken too long and they've simply decided to replace the phone.
I got a call from O2 today saying that they have now received the phone and it's ready to be collected.
Will pick it up tomorrow evening.

  • Dropped my iphone.....shattered screen

    hi,
i was just wondering if anyone knows how much roughly it will cost to get my screen replaced in an apple store and how long it will take?
    thank you
    amanda

I have the iphone 4 and dropped it yesterday at a wedding trying to take a pic of my boyfriend and I.  I've taken  hundreds of pix like this and never failed. However, it slipped from my hands and dropped to the cement stairs from about 5-6 feet (I had a case, but it was more for "fashion" and a hard plastic case). As my bf turned it over to pick it up, the face was completely smashed/shattered at the top and about 3/4 down the screen, but still worked. I have dropped it a few times before, but not from so high. Anyway, I was freaked out, had to go back inside and conceal my sorrows as I didn't wanna be a debbie downer. Woke up the nxt morning, made a genius bar appointment. Got there and after telling my story, was told Apple would give me a one time deal - replacing the entire phone for free. Literally, my heart skipped a beat!  I signed the papers, which would have cost me $229 other wise.  I was VERY pleased with the service. He also told me that Apple does this because "life happens" however it's a one time exception (if it's the first time phone's been damaged).
Needless to say, I was more than thrilled, immediately went out and bought an otter case...Extremely satisfied and happy with their service today

  • Dropped my iPhone 5 battery draining very quickly

    Hi All,
I dropped my iPhone 5 from about 2 feet yesterday evening (had a cover on) everything seemed to be working fine.
I was going to bed at around 12.30 the battery had 52% charge. Today morning I woke up at 6 am and the battery was completely drained out.
This is the second or third time I've dropped it. Could the falling down be a reason for the battery to drain out ?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    - Paul

Thank you I will try this. I am giving this phone to my husband so no info on it is fine. However I am getting a 4s on a new contract - can I put my backup onto new iPhone or is there a problem with that. Sorry if silly question I am a novice!!

  • I dropped my iPhone 5 in toilet, it worked again, but a week later is doesn't anymore.

A week ago today, I dropped my iPhone in the toilet. The bottom half was submerged. I took it out immediately and tried to dry it. I had to get to class so I wiped it and put it face down in front of a fan on a paper towel so it could drain. I went to class for an hour and half then got rice from the store. I rushed back and put my phone in it over night. The next day, I plugged it in and it began to charge again. I had some issues the first day with the touch capabilities working sometimes and not other times. After that day, it worked fine again, except the regular camera and flashlight do not work. That didn't really matter to me as I am upgrading in a few months and the front-facing camera still works. The phone turns off near 20% battery, which is not too bad. Now, today, my phone died around 9%, but I didn't notice for awhile that it was dead. I plugged it into my laptop, but the phone charger was starting to rip. I thought that was why it wasn't charging. Then, I used another cord and it still did not charge. My two roommates each tried to get it to charge and both dropped my phone on the floor (Not sure if that has anything to do with the problems I'm having). I let it sit then plugged it back into my laptop. The battery picture with the red line showed up. I let it stay plugged in for about half an hour to come back to a phone with still a black screen. It was very hot so I unplugged it. I let it sit then retried again. The battery picture has not come back and it will not respond to charging from either an outlet or laptop. Not sure what to do or what is causing this. I read online that people used the "hard restart" with the home and lock buttons, but it is not working. I think it may be from dropping it in the toilet and falling on the floor, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Or at least get it to charge?

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. ASAP.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4s and the back cracked and it now will not turn on. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimated price to fix it. Thanks. And I do have insurance on it with best buy. I'm with Verizon so I don't know what way would be cheaper

I dropped my iPhone 4s and the back cracked and it now will not turn on. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimated price to fix it. And I do have insurance on it with best buy. I'm on Verizon's phone plan so I don't know if it would be cheaper to have it fixed with Best Buy or Verizon. I cracked my iPod a little bit ago and got a refurbished one for free with the insurance on it but I don't now if it would be different because it is a phone. I don't know really anything about this stuff so any information that could possibly help me is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's only for the iPhone 5. On the 4 and 4S, they can repair the back glass in store for $30. They will not replace the display on a 4 or 4S. They must replace the entire phone. Replacing the display on them requires disassembling the entire phone, which they will not do in store.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet and now the touchscreen won't work?

I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet because I saw a spider on the seat and jumped, causing me to drop it down the loo. I fished it out and dried it off. The phone was on so I tried to turn it off so it didn't fry the inside of it. I held down the power button and the usual "Slide to power off" slider came up. I tried to swipe it and the phone wouldn't do it. I kept trying to swipe but it wouldn't let me and the screen started to do something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij7r2dyqBMg
It then stopped and stayed on the homescreen but slowly faded to a plain white screen and wouldn't do anything. I took out my SIM Card and dried it off because I didn't want it getting damaged. Then it turned to a black screen and once again did nothing, so I plugged it into my Macbook and it vibrated, indicating that it was being charged. Also, my iTunes & iPhoto icons started bouncing. The screen was still black so I unplugged it and left it on my bedside drawer to do whatever. About an hour or so later my boyfriend pressed the home button and the screen turned on, but it looked like a cloudy sky. It wouldn't do anything else so again, I left it for about an hour.
I then tried turning the phone on and the Apple logo appeared. The buttons work fine and the home screen with the date & time appeared, but the only thing that wasn't showing up was my screensaver, it is blurred out. I put my SIM Card back in and it says "SIM Faliure" on the screen & at the top where it usually says your network etc. (T-Mobile, 3G and all that) it just says "Invalid SIM" instead. Also, I can't use the touchscreen. I can't swipe up for the options or camera, I can't swipe to turn it off & I can't unlock the phone. I don't have any rice in this house as me & my father are allergic to it so there is no point in buying it.
It's a replacement phone & I've had it for less than three months. What else can I do? Also, there's a strange smell by the power button, but nowhere else on the phone.
    Help? Thanks - Ellie xo

I think that we all know the answer to this one.
Unfortunatley the device is concidered damaged by water. Apple can do an out of warranty repair which would cost $199. Generally they would just replace the device in this case for the $199.
The alternative is to Purchase a new device.

  • I dropped my iphone 4, and it wont turn on unless connected to a power source. even then its stuck on the apple logo.but once i take it off the power source it shuts off and wont turn on.

I dropped my iphone 4 and it shut off and when i tried to cut it on it wouldnt. so i connected it to a power source and it tunred on but stay stucked on the apple logo. so when i discounted it shut off. it only turns on when connected to a power source but not on its own. i tired to connect it to itunes no help, i tried to press the home and power button still no help.

Your last try would be a restore if you can get iTunes to recognize the phone. If not, you have probably damaged the device beyond repair. You can go to see Apple about an out of warranty replacement. The cost for the iPhone 4 is $149US, you can check for your location.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4 & cracked its screen. Apple wants me to pay for replacement unit (I agree), turn in my old phone (??) & wait for 6 days (no problem). What do I do to access emails, Internet & make/receive calls during these 6 days?

I dropped my iPhone 4 & cracked its screen. I went to the service center to get it repaired. SInce it is not under warranty, i was willing to pay for repair charges.
They told me that the screen can not be repaired or changed, but they can replace my damaged set with an equivalent set, on payment of RM 760, roughly, 25-30% cost of a new one. I agreed.
    They told me to:
    1/ pay upfront
2/ leave my old set with them
3/ and the replacement unit will be delivered in 4-6 days.
I agreed on 1& 3 but not to leave my damaged set with them because it is still working and I don't have another spare phone with me, to serve me the 4-6 day waiting period.
THe service center guy told me that if I want a replacement, I have to agree to all 3 conditions and that I should buy another phone for 6 days. I told him that I constantly need email & Internet access, as part of my work responsibilities, so I can not do with a simple phone. It obviously, doesn't make sense to buy an expensive smart phone, go thru the trouble of transferring my data & mails & contacts - just for a week.
Unfortunately, all these logics fell on deaf ears & the service centre guy kept insisting on ALL of the above conditions.
I came back so flustered & upset.
I thought customer service was about solving problems & not creating hurdles for customers.
    what should I do?
    ANy advice?

What would you do for transportation if you drove your car into a tree and had to wait while it was fixed? You'd need to rent, borrow or buy another car, no? The same applies to your phone. This is not Apple's problem; if the service center does not have replacements in stock for immediate swap-out, then it's up to you to provide a backup device or do without.
If you're in a country where Apple provides direct service for iPhones, you may be able to call Apple support and arrange for advance replacement, where they send you the replacement phone and then you send back the old one. Apple offers such service in several countries, though you have to pay an extra fee for the service. If not, then you'll just have to wait for the service center to get in the replacement, and will have to arrange an alternative to use during that time.
    Regars.
