Nested Movieclips don't scroll after shift

Hi,
I am trying to set up a page scroller of sorts..my original plan was to have 3 movieclips placed on next to the other, within a single movieclip. When the next button is pressed the parent movieclip scrolls and reveals the next page, and the older page which is out of the screen is then moved to the last position by changing its .x value.
Now everything works fine, and the previous clip is getting shifted to the new position. But it is not scrolling into the screen when the parent movieclip moves. The last moved page's .x remains constant..how is this possible??why is it not moving with the parent movieclip???
If this is too confusing, imagine pg1, pg2, pg3 within pageHolder clip. Now when pageHolder scrolls left to reveal pg2 and a bit of pg3. I am moving pg1 to the orginal x,y coords of pg3 [which successfully happens]. But when pageHolder scrolls again, pg3 comes into view, but I cannot see pg1...[a bit of the next page stays in view], even though according to its co-ordinates, pg1 should be right there. But pg1's coordinates are not changing. Why is this happening???

Great job using the Keyboard viewer to troubleshoot your issue so far. The following Knowledge Base article provides a great checklists of steps to pinpoint the issue a bit further:
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond - Apple Support
Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Accessibilty or Universal Access pane in System Preferences, then click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Accessibilty or Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see Unable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
Start from the Mac OS X Install Disc, choose Terminal from the Utilities menu and test the keys which were previously not working. If the keys work while started from the Install disc, then the keyboard itself is working correctly. Use How to troubleshoot a software issue to isolate the software issue that may be causing the keys to not respond.

Nested MovieClips

I have a problem that I think is a simple one but I cannot seem to figure it out, and it has been 2 days of fighting wiht it so I am here to plea for help from the collective experts. Here is the issue.
I have created a movieClip which is just a rectangle shape that has an interior timeline which object tweens from a 2x200 pixel to a 200x200 pixel shape.
This movieClip has an instance name of menu_2.
After the tween happens inside menu_2, on the stop(); frame I have placed another movieClip with an instance name of mi_1. This clip is 100 x 35 pixels and site floating inside the menu_2 MovieClip. Inside this movieClip there is a timeline where there are a "the_start" and a "the_end" label on either end of the timeline each with stop(); comands and some graphics which change opacity.
What I cannot seem to get to happen is to activate the timeline inside the mi_1 MovieClip. What I would like to happen is that when the user mouses over the mi_1 movieClip, it triggers a number of events, along with triggering playing the timeline inside of mi_2.
Here is the code I have tried on the main (scene 1) timeline. None of which have worked.

That's what I thought too Ned. All the reseach I did, tells me that is how you access a nested movieClip in another MovieClip.
Your visible code works as it should, but I still cannot get the nested MovieClip to be affected by a call to action on the main timeline.

Did not do anything. I would have just used a button with roll over effects, but a button also seems to be masked inside the menu_2 mc.

X230T: Slow scroll after swipe on Windows 8

Hi!
I have an X230T running Windows 8 and working quite well with it.
I face a Problem with using Windows 8, the scroll speed after swiping (f. e. in Internet Explorer or start menu) is pretty slow. For example: you have loaded a web page in IE 10 which has lots of text and you scroll down using a swipe - the page starts to scroll but soon the movement is de-accelerated and the scroll movement stops very soon with little gain of area.
How do you configure or calibrate this behavior?
Any ideas?

I fixed this one myself.
I found out there is a registry setting that controls the inertia of the touch movement. Back in Windows 7 there was a UI (a page in the Pen/Touch Settings) that used to set this value. Obviously this one is missing in Windows 8, i wonder why, since there is no alternative and this setting is very important for a tablet operating system.
The key is:
The param "Friction" under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch]. You can set it to numeric values from 0-64. 64 means high friction, 0 means very low friction. Of course i chose 0 to make scrolling after swiping really fast. I needed a reboot to make this effective. Remember there are a couple of copies of this registry structure under [HKEY_USERS], you should set them too (execpt for the very improbable case that some user wants slow touch scrolling).
I am puzzled why Microsoft does not offer a configuration for this extremely important setting.

Is there any way to save an image from a nested movieclip as a .png using PNGEncoder

Hello all,
I am new to AIR and AS3 and I am developing a small AIR desktop application in Flash CS5 that saves a user generated image locally to their computer.
The image is generated from a series of user choices based on .png files that are loaded dynamically into a series of nested movieclips via XML. The final image is constructed by a series of these "user choices".
Sourcing alot of code examples from here and there, I have managed to build a "working" example of the application. I am able to "draw" the parent movieclip to which all the other dynamic movieclips reside and can then encode it using PNGEncoder. The problem is that the images loaded dynamically into the nested movieclips show as blank in the final .png generated by the user.
Is there a way to "draw" and encode these nested movieclips or do I need to find another way? I can provide my clumsy code if required but would like to know if this concept is viable before moving any further.....

Yeah I'm doing it in Flash but importing the images via an xml document. The problem isn't in being able to view the eyes (based on the selection of the user) its when I go to save the resulting image as a .png. When I open up the saved .png the eyes are blank even though they are visible in the swf
Even when the user clicks on the option to copy the image to the clipboard, it works as intended.
My only guess is there is an issue with the way my xml is loading (but this appears to work fine) or when the file is converted and saved.....
As I said I'm still learning but surely there must be a simple answer to this....
I have included the xml code I am using and also the save code to see if anyone spots an issue..... (I hope I copied it all)

The final image is copied to the clipboard with the eyes visible - yes
The eyes appear in the image in the swf as intended - yes
When the image is saved as a .png and is meant to include the eyes, they are blank (see picture above)

Is the version of Windows 7 Ultimate you have installed 32bit or 64bit?
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers - do you see an existing entry for the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC listed here?
There is an alternative IDT Audio driver you may wish to try on the following link.

Something does look odd to me unless it's a typo in your post.
This look like what I'd expect from the NetGear Router - not form the modem. That is when You browse the router stats (http:/192.168.1.1)
I work with a modem with te folowing preverences:
Wan IP address    87.211.205.210
Lan IP address     192.168.1.1
Primery DNS server       62.58.50.5
Secondary DNS server   62.58.50.6
and a separate router Netgear WGT624v3
This is not exactly what I would expect from System Preferences/Network
the system preferences for the network are
Configure       by DHCP
IP address     192.168.1.15
Subnetmask 255.255.255.0
Router           192.168.5.1 <<<<<<<<<<< this should be 192.168.1.1??????
DNS              208.67.222.222
                     208.67.220.220
The Router address in System Preferences/Network should be the same as the LAN IP Address. In this case it's on a different network.
If this is not a type then this is a problem!
Not sure how it got to be that way.
Does it persist when resetting the modemand router?/

Some apps like mail, safari, app store, ipod don't work after upgrading to iOS 4.3. itues is up to date and have never had issues before. tried to downgrade to 4.2 but was unable to. Help!

I have the same issue, half the apps no longer work, just stays in 'updating' mode. I've tried uninstalling some but now the app store is freezing. THe ones I am able to reinstall give me error message saying I'm not logging in correctly (I am). I'm guessing some apps versions aren't compatible with the new software but a few I was able to use after the software update and now I can't

All good. Just drag and dropped each application and they worked until I did a restart. Then repaired permissions and everything works.

What happend is your phone forgot it was authorized to work with items associated with your apple id. If it happens again, download any free app to prompt the sign in, once you install the free app the others should work.

I was having this problem, seem to happen when waking computer, once finally connected network works great.
You need to edit your network preferences to order the network selection list. Goto this support page Using network locations (Mac OS X v10.6 and later) and edit your selection list.
I also created a "HOME" location and deleted all networks except wifi. Put MB to sleep woke and safari worked great. Still I re-ordered the networks under Automatic putting wifi at top, sequence is from top down. Don't forget to click Apply. Have fun

How to stop and resume the animations of nested movieclips

I have many nested movieclips in different positions of the main timeline.
I have 2 buttons, play_btn and pause_btn.
I'd like when the user click pause_btn, the animations on the main timeline and in nested movieclips stop.
Whe he click play_btn the animations resume in both the main timeline and nested movieclips.
I have created array of nested movieclips on the main timeline.

I'm having the same issue.I have a main timeline, which has nested movieclips with there own timelines and motion tweens. Using the new motion tween, and not the classic tween, which may or may not be the problem.
Was having a similar issue with stopping the timeline, the main timeline would stop, but the nested movieclips would keep going. Found this blog post that helped.

Used the code below to stop everything by passing the stage as the displayObject. Worked great, but now i'm having the reverse issue. When I resume play, the nested movieclip timeline stays exactly where I stopped it, and the main timeline resumes play. If there are a 100 frames in the nested movieclip, once it reaches the 101st frame, the main timeline kicks in again.
