Netcfg wired dhcp issue

CONNECTION="ethernet-iproute"
DESCRIPTION="A basic dhcp ethernet connection using iproute"
INTERFACE="eth1"
IP="dhcp"
DHCP_TIMEOUT=30
DHCLIENT=no
I can connect fine at my home, however at my mothers this always fails.  I have even tried static and it still fails.  I have her on one of those Linksys Powerline setups for right now and it works on her windows based laptop.
I am running latest Arch with DWM 5.6

Have you tried to do this manually, with out netcfg?
If so what is the result of your attempt, where does the attempt fail? As many details as posible would be appreciated

  • Wierd DHCP Issue

    Hello All,
I facing a very wierd  DHCP issue and would like to know your thoughts on it.
I have my wired clients on vlan 1 and wireless cleints(eap-peap) on VLAN 2.
We are facing an issue where multiple wired clients who were on access port vlan 1 are receiving IP address from wireless subnet(vlan2) -their DHCP server was the WLC virtual gateway IP address(1.1.1.1). This is causing an outage to few wired clients.
The WLC trunk does not have vlan 1 allowed on its ports and all APs are in local mode and all on access vlan.
I'm not entirely sure whats causing this, but only way I think this is possible is  that 'A Client' laptop has his network connections  bridged - his wired nic on VLAN 1 and wireless NIC on vlan 2, acting like a WGB, which is causing new wired clients(vlan1) DHCP broadcast request forwared through the bidge mode laptop to AP--> WLC. Do you think this is possible??
Havent been able to identify which client is causing this issue yet.
Has anyone faced a similar issue and anyway to block this through WLC/ACS policy?
    Thanks
    Jino

    Hi,
Might we consider to make use of network monitor to take a look at the traffics for the 1.1.1.1 address?

  • Wired "dhcp ip lease attempt failed"/no internet

Hi, I've been using netcfg on arch for a couple months now and never had trouble with it until today, I just changed internet carrier and the guy came install the modem here and I tried to plug my laptop to it and I can't get internet. Before whenever I plugged an Ethernet cable it would connect automatically because of ifplugd. I use the profile "ethernet-dhcp" from the examples that I copied to /etc/network.d. When I plug the wire, internet doesn't work so I tried : netcfg -a : Done, netcfg ethernet-dhcp and get "dhcp ip lease attempt failed".
I read the forums and tried some solution proposed to people with same error message but with wireless and sometimes I can connect to the profile, but I still don't have internet.
I've plugged the cable in my eepc running win7 and it works (I'm writing this from the eepc). Also the link light flashes on the modem And on my T61 when I plug the cable in the ethernet slot. I tried a static profile with the same ip as my eepc but no joy.
    any suggestions ?
    thank you

  • Very weird dhcp issue

We've started 're-vlanning' our main location here, breaking up depts
    into their own vlans.
All seems ok so far, aside from a real doozy.
For the IT vlan, we have one address that will not talk to our web
content mgmt appliance. It's the 2nd address in our assignable pool,
and it doesn't matter if it's dhcp or statically assigned, that address
will not talk to that device.
That is the *only* device that cannot be reached from this particular
address in our dept vlan, every other one works fine.
    Any ideas on this?

So.... the title of this thread should actually be 'Very weird non-DHCP
issue', since your own testing confirms this has nothing to do with DHCP?
If you do a LAN trace on this machine as well as your web content
management appliance do you see packets on either side? Both sides? If
not on both sides but you do on the source (workstation) side see
packets going out, then get LAN traces after each network device
(switch, router, firewall, etc.) to see when the packets disappear.
Feel free to post the LAN traces somewhere with descriptions of IPs,
ports, and what you should be seeing, if you want to post them somewhere
    for review.
    Good luck.

  • 6500 DHCP ISSUE

    Hello All,
I am having an issue do DHCP from the 6500, and was hoping someone cant help. So, I tried to setup DHCP from the FWSM to the clients and this worked fine with giving out the IP, however the gateway for devices on the inside is supposed to be the 6500, not the FWSM, which is why the clinets wouldn't get out to the internet. Do I need to set up DHCP relay on the FWSM or does anyone know the way I can setup DHCP on the 6500 to give out IP's to the clients. Again just to reiterate, when I setup DHCP on the FWSM the clinets get the IP's but do not get out to the internet and when I setup DHCP on the 6500 the clients do not get an IP. Also I know tghis is a dhcp issue becasue when I assign a static address on the network the clients get out fine. Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hello Alain,
Thanks for your quick response. I attached a Diagram of the layout. Just to let you know this is an FWSM with many virtual contexts and most including this one that are Transparent. I understand that I need an access-list on both ends to specifiy so the FWSM opens it, I am just having issue because the FWSM sees this as unsual traffic and the access-list needs to be on-point to work. Thank you for the response and I'll look forward to hearing back from you.

  • VRF and DHCP issue

    VRF and DHCP issue
We have a 6500 ( 12.2 (33) SXH5 ) that has a VRF running for our guest network. On this 6500 resides the DHCP pool with a range defined for our guest network. We have a stack of 3750's (12.2 (46) SE) connected to the 6500 with a L3 connection. The 3750's have a local guest VLAN with its gateway defined in a VLAN interface. This VLAN on the 3750 has an IP helper address pointing to an IP within the VRF on the 6500. When debugging DHCP on the 6500, a request is received and sent back out. The client never receives this request.
If a static IP is applied, the client is able to communicate anywhere within the VRF successfully (including pinging the IP within the helper-address. As many posts have pointed out - there is no VRF <name> under the ip dhcp pool <name> within the 6500. I am just wondering if anyone else has run into this and what their solution was.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I have tested the dhcp server and vrf on Cisco 3640 and it is working without VRF under the ip dhcp pool. Please ensure that you have configured routing for the dhcp-relay agent(VLAN facing dhcp client on 3750 in your case).

  • Macbook Air (Mid 2011) Wired/Wireless DHCP issues

    All,
I have been attempting to fix a nagging problem with my brand new MBA 'Ultimate' - while at home it connects fine wirelessly and I do not experience any issues (note this is the first SSID it has ever connected to) I have not been able to connect to my office's wireless - I do not pull a DHCP address or connect. In an attempt to rule out the wireless issues everyone has, I purchased the 10/100 Apple RJ-45 (ethernet) adapter and have attempted this morning to connect via a known working patch cable.
The wired connection fails to pull a DHCP address as well!
I have followed wifiguru's posts and attempted to disable the firewall, reset the SMC, reset the PRAM, delete the offending plists, changed the network order, etc.
I do not believe my issue lies on my computer network as multiple other iOS and OSX devices can connect (that are Lion as well)
Admittedly, I have not attempted to go to another third party wireless location (Starbucks, McD's, etc) but for the wired connection to fail as well and my home wireless (802.11n) connection to work leads me to think I am missing something. I do not believe I should have to reboot my work's wireless router to accept me as a client as well - especially since the wired does not connect.
    Any thoughts?
    Cliffs:
    - mid-2011 MBA Ultimate
    - wireless works at home network (802.11n) - gets DHCP address
    - wireless doesn't work at work (802.11b/g) - no DHCP address
    - wired doesn't work at work (apple adapter) - no DHCP address
    - firewall off/on doesn't matter
    - deleted problematic plists, no change
I also feel I should add, I'm not computer illiterate by any stretch of the imagination and have used OSX products in the past.

    Really?
    No input at all?

  • DHCP issues for Wired Guest LAN

    Hi Everyone,
I've a 1751 acting as a DHCP server for client PCs on a guest network A.B.8.x (using an Anchor controller) on the DMZ of my firewall. The 1751 reports the following
Nov 30 15:35:45: DHCPD: DHCPDISCOVER received from client 0100.1708.37a3.55 through relay A.B.7.y.
Nov 30 15:42:41: DHCPD: there is no address pool for A.B.7.y.
I'd tied my guest vlan and corresponding DHCP scope on the router to A.B.8.x, but as A.B.7.x is the DHCP relay for the Anchor controller I don't understand why the DHCP server on the router is not doing what I expected it to.
As ever any help will be appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    Scott

    Hi Cristian,
After much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth I have got it working - what was not clear to me, and it looks as though you've fallen into the same trap, is that the egress interface on the anchor controller (ie the management port) defines the addresses given to the clients. The dhcp scope on your server has to be from the same network as the address of the management interface (so my guest clients get a A.B.7.x address). In fact the ingress interface addresses have no bearing (as I'm sure I read somewhere afterwards!) on how the guest access operates and can (should?) be dummy addresses.
I tried creating another vlan (with A.B.8.x) on the anchor controller and assigning that to the egress of the guest WLAN on the anchor and I could get A.B.8.x addresses from my DHCP server as I had planned, but, and this is a big but, web authentication just will not instigate. So it would seem that guest access is reliant on using the management interface as the egress on the anchor of the guest WLAN.
    I hope this is helpful,
    Regards
    Scott

  • [Solved] Several installs and issues with DHCP issue every time.

    Edited: more concise information!
    Hi folks,
I was using Arch fine for months but decided to reinstall it fresh at the new year, but since then I have been plagued by connection issues. I install Arch and follow many of the tips found in these Wikis to set it up how I like then install preload and readahead.
    Post-Installation Tips
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pos … ation_Tips
    - LCD filtered fonts
    - Disable IPv6 (I use Chorus/NTL and they have a tip for improving Firefox that disables IPv6, so I think that this is not to blame)

    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop
    - Battery state monitoring utilities (acpi)
    - Laptop-mode-toold
    - Powernowd
    Maximising Performance
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Max … erformance
    - Swapiness
    - Mount /tmp to RAM
My internet connection works fine, even when rebooting, but later I turn on my computer and WICD or networkmanager fails on "obtaining IP address. I really think that there is something in one of these tips that is causing this problem, but I am at a loss as to what. Like I say, I was using it happily for many months before these current issues. The only thing I did differently was systematically set up my computer with all the tips detailed above, where as before, I collected these tips over a period of time and did not do them all straight after installation. I have tried rolling back the changes and this has not fixed the issue.
I have had this issue over many reinstalls, using networkmanager or WICD and each time I was hoping that I was doing something wrong.  I have an Ubuntu and work Windows laptop that both work fine, so I don.t think it is anything to do with the connection itself.
I am not sure what information you would need so I thought I would post both of these files. If you would like anything else, give me a shout and i can post it.

    Hey Scott!
I don't know if it is helpful in any way but I have a similar problem with my desktop PC.
I have two ethernet controllers installed and somtimes I had a Ip address assigned and sometimes I didn't.
One which is connected to the router and a 2nd one I use sporadically to connect additional computers.
The dhcpcd would fail to load even if I followed steps suggested from other forum members.
My temporary fix was to run:
    # dhcpcd
    manually.
If this helps you might consider adding "dhcpcd" at the end of
    /etc/rc.d/network
I know it's not really a fix but it helps me to get a working connection whoch otherwise would fail - or work if lucky but i don't like lucky with network/internet ^^

  • DHCP issues on wireless

When I connect to my wireless router (D-Link WBR-2310 I believe) using my mac, it gets the default self-assigned address instead of DHCP-assigned address. My PC connects fine wirelessly and wired over ethernet. If the router is reset, it works fine. If I assign manual address to iBook wireless, it works fine (by "works fine" I mean that I can connect to the internet).
Had similar problem with my old Linksys router (Linksys WRT54G) where the following devices had issues connecting to the internet iPod Touch, iBook, PowerBook, and MacBook. This was under unsecured, WEP and WPA settings. It seems that the issue is resurfacing with my current router.
Currently, I am using WPA security (I don't like WEP and neither does my PC). I would rather not switch security settings to unsecured due to the close proximity of my neighbours (yes it's canadian spelling!).
    Any suggestions?

I have encountered this same router and issue visiting my future in-laws for the holidays. DHCP with manual address appears to work, but I also still encounter occasional drops. The router is setup for WPA2 security, and support a mix of Mac and Win clients. I haven't put a lot of time into trying to fix it, but here is what I know so far:
    1) Sometimes it does just work with DHCP
    2) DHCP with manual address works, but will still drop occasionally for brief periods
    3) Sometimes, just turning the airport off then on again will resolve the issue and pull an address
    4) Just waiting about 30-60 seconds also seems to work -- usually
    5) Plugging into the wire works great!
I haven't sat by the router and worked on this, but it seems that occasionally the router just drops the signal, and with it the DHCP assignments. Something about the DHCP implementation is very slow, and it just take a while to get around to assigning an address to my machine. I haven't looked into firmware updates since it's not my box and I don't want to mess it up further and then leave, but that's certainly something to check into.
We also have an 12" PB that cannot even connect to the wireless with the "Error joining wireless network" message. Haven't been able to figure that one out at all.
They may just be getting an Airport or Linksys as a late x-mas gift here... (as my connection drops again while I type this! Airport off, airport on, wait 30 sec, and we're back)
    Cheers, and good luck!

  • DHCP Issue.

    Hi Everyone.
I am having an issue with our LAN DHCP clients obtaining an IP from our DHCP server.
I captured some packets using wireshark while trying to obtain a IP and this is what i found.
I get the discover, offer, request and then ACK, but for some reason the PC starts the procedure over again even after ACK was received. Everything looks good withing the DHCP transaction except the PC does not keep the IP handed out to it. The ACK has a
valid IP within scope, mask, gateway and all the info is there.
Funny thing is we have wireless clients able to obtain IP's just fine. This only is a problem for our wired clients. Also the wireless DCHP process seems identical to the LAN DHCP process yet our LAN PC's keep sending out a discover even after ACK received.
I tried using a non-Domain PC and get the same result.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Is there a Linksys or some other retail-box store router that someone may have plugged in on the network that has DHCP running on the 192.168.x.x range?

  • RV042 second DHCP issue

    Hy all,
I  have a CISCO RV042 in a network with 2 subnets 192.168.1.x and  192.168.2.x and I want multiple DHCP on both subnets. How can I do that?
If  I use a second router for the second subnet (192.168.2.x) to use its  DHCP. The bandwith management will work? Do I need port VLANs?
    The network is like this:
The  RV042 is the main router thru it we acces the internet, it also suplies  DHCP 192.168.1.x, I enabled multiple subnet for 192.168.2.x.
The  reason I want 2 subnets is beacause I have 2 acces points for wireless  clients and I want to use rate control on WAN with bandwith management  from RV042 too give wired clients more bandwith than wireless clients.
I know that RV042 doesn't supply multiple dhcp like RV180,but I needed dual WAN.
    Thank You

    Hi,
Thank you for the answer, but my issue remains, below I tried to write a little bit more
If I make the configuration like this:
    On CISCO RV042:
    Port based VLANs:
    VLAN 1 on LAN 1
    VLAN 2 on LAN 2
    On AT-FS750/24 switch:
    Port-based VLANs:
    VLAN 1 for 2,3,4 ports where 2,3 are the AP's (TL-WA901ND) and 4 uplink to RV042
VLAN 2 for the rest, let's say 5,6,7,8,9, etc ports that are for wired clients.
    Tagged-based (802.1q):
VLAN ID 11 for 2,3,4 ports where 2,3 ports are tagged are the AP's (TL-WA901ND) and 4 untagged uplink to RV042.
VLAN ID 22 for 2,3,4 ports where 2,3 ports are tagged are the AP's (TL-WA901ND) and 4 untagged uplink to RV042.
    On AP's (TL-WA901ND):
    Multi-SSID with tagged based VLAN:
SSID 1 on VLAN ID 11
SSID 2 on VLAN ID 22
If I use the second router (not supporting VLANs) only for DHCP for the wired clients with the configuration:
-In the WAN I'll plug RV042 LAN 2 (VLAN 2) and from its LAN 1 I'll connect LAN 5 (VLAN 2) in the switch.
    second router WAN:
    IP:    192.168.2.2
    SM:   255.255.255.0
    DG:   192.168.2.1
    DNS: 192.168.2.1
    For DHCP
    LAN1:
    IP:   192.168.3.3
    SM:  255.255.255.0
It will work to split wireless from wired ?
How can I split the 2 wireless networks in guests and business more efficient?
Let's say the wireless clients from "SSID 1" have to have a guaranteed bandwidth.!
How can I set it up so the wireless clients gets different IP class on the 2 wireless networks?
Can I use the rate control from RV042 on the IP (192.168.2.2) of the second router?
My problem is that I need all the subnet available from RV042 DHCP for the wireless clients (192.168.1.x), because RV042 can route only in class C (254).
I configured the static IP's in 192.168.2.x subnet for Ethernet equipments, I used multiple subnets from RV042.
Momentarily I use COS from the switch for the tagged VLAN to prioritize the traffic, but this is no longer an option for me.
Can a CISCO RV180 make a difference in this configuration?
    Thank you,
    Dragos

  • RV180W wired performance issue.

We've recently setup a RV180W to replace an older router  and are experiencing performance issues with WIRED clients, WIRELESS  clients seem to have no problem.
We've updated the firmware (1.0.1.9) and the problem still persists. We only have a VLAN setup, the default and are using the built-in DHCP.
The  problems occur with WAN access, wired clients can take up to 1 minute  to load a web page while wireless clients get the page under 2 seconds.
Is there a setting I missed?

Hi Michael, the default setting of the router does not impact performance.
Do all 4 ethernet ports show the same behavior? Have you swapped out wires? Are you using a wireless connection inconjunction with the wired connection?

  • DNS / DHCP Issues in Server 2008R2 Domain

    Hi folks,
We’ve been having an ongoing issue for a while now in that some PCs and laptops (Win 7) in our company can’t be contacted by hostname i.e. if we try and RDP from one Windows 7 PC to another the RDP session fails as if the PC isn’t turned on, but it
is indeed turned on and connected to the network.
Even if we ping the host name of a particular computer that is on it fails to reply but if I go into DHCP I can find the hostname bit it has a different IP address assigned to it other than what is listed in DNS for that host name.
So for some reason when some computers get switched on and be allocated a new dynamic IP address through DHCP the corresponding record in DNS doesn’t seem to get updated meaning we need to go into DNS and manually amend the Host A record with the new
IP address that it has been given so we can RDP onto that computer using the hostname.
At present aging and scavenging isn’t enabled in our environment as we are afraid to in case it removes live DNS entries that just haven’t been turned on in a wee while.  Does aging and scavenging just ignore static DNS entires and does aging and
scavenging work in DHCP as well?
One other thing I noticed is that if I delete an incorrect DNS Host A record and create it manually and assign the hostname and the correct IP address it says static rather than having a timestamp on it. When I create the new record I always click on our
domain in the Forward Lookup Zone and on creation I always select Create the associated pointer (PTR) record so not sure why the manual record doesn’t get a time stand.
So any help/advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bonemister

    Hi David,
Thanks for your reply and for clarifying those things for me.  Unfortunately in my workplace when I add a manual DNS Host A record it does become a static entry and doesn't have the '0'
you mention, do you have any idea why that would be as I'm worried about it affecting things if I were to enable aging and scavenging.
Is it possible to just enable aging and have it remove entries before a time of my choosing or does scavenging need to be enabled also?
I still can't understand why the relationship between DHCP and DNS isn't working correctly. Sure if DNS has an A record for a computer and the IP address changes via DHCP there is bound to be
a way to setup DNS to be able to update the records it holds - do you know if my reading of this is correct.
By the way, I can confirm that my adapters TCP/IP DNS settings are the same on of the PCs that had the DNS fault as in your screenshot the only different is we have the tick in Append parent suffixes... - would that make a difference.
Thanks also for that other link, it seems very interesting and I'll have a good read through it carefully before doing anything!!
Thanks again for you reply and I look forward to seeing any responses.

    Bonemister

  • HP Photosmart Premium c309g Wired Network Issues

I've been struggling with this thing since I installed it a month ago.  It prints, usually, but for the most part the performance over the wired network is slooooowwwww.  In some cases it may take 5 minutes just for the printer to get itself activated.  Other times it won't even print at all until I reboot my desktop (wired into router) and log back into my user account.  Then suddenly, the printout will appear.  Performance from a wireless laptops is the same.
I figured a wired setup would be simple as I didn't need the wireless setup.   The printer is connect directly to my DSL modem/router.  I get my wireless to my laptop by Netgear router coming off one of the DSL modem ports.  The wireless access point has a static IP.  The DSL wired router has DHCP running.
Unless I can find some knowledgeable help in here I think I'll be forced to go back to a USB connection and share it thru my desktop.  Something I'd like to avoid if possible.  Let me know what information anyone needs and I'll supply it.
One more thing to add because it just happened.  After turning the printer off/on it sat there for about 3 minutes.  Then suddenly it got some request to print something.  However, no client sent it a print request.
    Thanks..

    PrintDoc,
I have made the following changes based upon your recommendations.
    -  Removed HP printer and desktop network cable from Actiontec DSL modem/router and plugged them into the Netgear wireless router (WNDR3400) port 2 and 3.
    -  Ran one network cable from port 1 on the Actiontec to port 1 on the Netgear.  Port 1 is NOT the WAN on the Netgear.
    -   Verified Netgear and Actiontec have the latest firmware (they already did)
Here are the settings for the Actiontec
    - DHCP off
    - OpenDNS as DNS servers
    - LAN IP 192.168.0.1
    - Netmask 255.255.255.0
Here are the settings for the Netgear
    - DHCP on (range 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254)
    - Static IP 192.168.111.2
    - Netmask 255.255.255.0
    - Gateway IP 192.168.111.1
    - LAN IP 192.168.0.100
    - Netmask 255.255.255.0
    - OpenDNS as DNS servers
Here are the settings for the HP printer
    - Name: OldGlory
    - DHCP on
    - OpenDNS as DNS servers
I can connect my 2 laptops, smartphone, Internet radio, and Internet connectible TV with no problems on the wireless signal.  The desktop and the printer have no problems connecting either.  After I configured it all last nite I did have it all working properly (so it seemed).
So the desktop and the printer sat on overnite and I attempted to print something this morning from a Stamps.com application I have installed on the desktop.  The print was sent and I did notice it in the printer icon in the taskbar start up.  However, when I opened that icon up to check the status, there was no port called out.  As a result nothing was printed.  Funny because a port is defined in the printer properties Port tab in Windows.
I logged off  and then logged back in and still no print.  I then rebooted the desktop and then upon login, the print came out of the printer.  This is the typical behavior when things have sat over nite.  I checked the printer configuration and I have energy saving mode turned off.
    Does this help diagnose?
    Please advise...Thanks...
