Netscape LDAP 4.1 Arabic Support

Using the Netscape SDK for DS 4.1 how can we retrieve Arabic vaues that have been placed in the directory by another application. At present all we receive back in the code is an empty string in the the Netscape console we see blanks. The originating application receives the correct data back

The values should have been stored in the directory encoded in UTF8 - they should have been converted from the local charset encoding into UTF8 prior to storing. Otherwise, the console and other LDAP standard applications will assume the values are just unformatted binary data.

Couldn't you download the netscape.ldap package (iPlanet LDAP SDK) and put its jars in your app classpath?
The suggested way to replace netscape.ldap package is to use only JNDI calls, but maybe they can not fulfill all your needs.
By the way, you can get the source code for that package in Mozilla.org site.
(Note: if you are using Netscape LDAP SDK for parsing/generating ASN.1 streams including X.509 certificates, try using BouncyCastle instead of netscape.ldap.ber.stream package - I had to modify several classes from Netscape's package that is not meant to handle certificates, but LDAP streams...)

Are you receiving any error messages? Can you confirm that the Cisco DirSync process is started and/or reset and try the sync again. Also, you may want to check to make sure there are no firewalls/ports being blocked between CUCM and your LDAP server.
You'll also want to make sure your LDAP Directory page is mapping attributes correctly to your OpenLDAP server under System > LDAP > LDAP Directory. By default it is set to use sAMAccountName for the UserID field.

Hw can i get arabic support in oracleAS using jstl: showing '?????' symbols

I am using OracleAS for portal deployment and portlets UI constructed by using jstl.
i have used spring portlet jstl for the jsp pages.
when i am trying to change the language, it is showing '?????' symbols.
I have used correct unicode. i tested in pluto portal server. when i deployed in oracleAS,
for english not a problem. for arabic it is showing as '????'.
i have used this code to get arabic in pluto. same code i used. i am getting error.

Only Apple Account Security could help at this point. You can try calling Apple Support in Canada - you'll have to find one of the several ways, such as Skype, to call an 800 number from outside of the relevant country - and ask for Account Security and see if they can help. Or you can find a friend who speaks Chinese and ask them to help you talk to Apple Support in China. There are really no other options that I know of.
Note, by the way, that these are user-to-user support forums. You aren't speaking with Apple when you post here.

provide arabic support?Please go to "Regional and Language Options" from the Control Panel. In the "Standards and formats" group of the "Regional Opitons" tab, select "Arabic (Saudi Arabia)". In the "Language for non-Unicode programs" group of the "Advanced" tab, select "Arabic (Saudi Arabia)", then restart Windows. If "Arabic (Saudi Arabia)" is not listed, then please go to the "Langauges" tab and make sure the "Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)" in the "Supplemental language support" group is checked.

If you're planning to support other languages in the future, I would recommend you to create your database in UTF8 (Forms/Reports 6i doesn't work with AL32UTF8 database). Please note Arabic characters are represented in 2 bytes in UTF8 while they are 1 byte in AR8MSWIN1256.
2.How to install forms & Reports with arabic support?If you need Arabic translation, then please select Arabic when you're asked the language(s) to install. Otherwise, notmal Forms/Reports installation should work for you.
3.How to dispaly the data in both english and arabic in

To search for a word, I have to write the words backward, like instead of "Adobe" I have to write "ebodA" but in Arabic language. I know that your app developers are Indians, but please let an Arabic person show you how he can't search for a word in an Arabic PDF file. Please fix it urgently. it is very important for the Arabic language readers. Thanks for your action.

You might find that this is a limitation in either the software or the file. Some Arabic files are written left-to-right internally, and look right but are backwards in each line.

Portal and Netscape LDAP server integration

I am trying to integrate Netscape LDAP server (6.0) with portal server 7, but
having lots of trouble doing that.
I've followed the instructions in the developer guide and completed the following
steps:
1. added a CustomRealm named defaultLDAPRealmForNetscapeDirectoryServer in config.xml
and modified the entries to fit my environment.
2. Deployed ldapprofile.jar and customized the env variables.
After these two steps, nothing happened. Then I did the third step:
3. added a iPlanet Authenticator to the realm CompatibilityRealm, which is my
default realm for the server.
However, after step 3, I wasn't able to boot weblogic server. Please note I have
create two users, system and weblogic in my LDAP server.

Thanks a lot Scott. I followed your instructions and got it working to a certain
degree. I am pretty happy about the results.
There are still a few issues:
1. I had to create groups and users in my directory server in order to boot up
and logon to the server. This is expected, but is it possible to export these
user/group settings from the embedded LDAP server so that I can import them into
my directory server? Currently, the only way is manual and it's error prone. A
lot of trial and error has to happen to get there.
2. It seems that using Netscape LDAP server only allows read-only access. This
means we have to create new users/groups outside of the portal server and one
other side effect is self-registration is impossible, unless we use custom security
providers. Is this assessment correct? Since LDAP integration is so important,
wouldn't it be nice if BEA have that built-in and all we need to do is to switch
to and configure it?
3. I got duplicate users and groups in compatibility security. Obviously, one
set is from my LDAP server and the other is from the embedded one. I tried to
remove to embedded LDAP authenticator, but the duplicates are still there. How
can I get rid of the duplicates - I only want the ones from my LDAP server?

Netscape.ldap.LDAPException: Server down (80); Unknown error

Hi,
We are facing a strange problem in our staging environment. It has two Sun one Dir. server 5.2 running in multi-master mode befind a load-balancer.
A Connection Pool has been defined on the Application server for the same with minConn=5 and MaxConn=80.
Load-balancer has a timeout value of 30 mins.
Now when, the Application runs a search operation on the LDAP , it throws the following error sometimes, however, most of the time it works without any problems.

its working fine in the development env. where we are not using the load-balancers and the ldap is used in stand-alone mode.

I am a proud Mac user from Kuwait, yet I was realy embariced when my friend tried to use my Mac to edit a few things to his microsoft office word report we were both surprised that their was no Arabic support, he said to me that my laptop was complex & that i'm better off with a hp laptop, any how I'm still a proud Mac user thanks to your brelianr software & hardware, but I had install Windows 7 on my Mac just for the Arabic support, any how I am ready to remove windows from my Mac & become a full Mac computer user as soon as the Arabic support is available so when will it be available ?

MS Word for OS X has never supported Arabic (or Hebrew or any Indic langauge). I think it is in fact the only word processor in the universe which cannot do Arabic on a Mac. Common sense should tell you that the place to complain about that is Microsoft, not Apple.
OS X does have full Arabic support. The best word processor to use is Mellel, but TextEdit, Nisus Writer, and OpenOffice should also work OK. Plus of course Mail, Safari, etc. iWork apps have bugs.

yes you can use VB with the nsldap32v30.dll or nsldap32v30.dll. You can get this from the iplanet page . The dll is inside the LDAP C SDK. Then, there's a 3 or 4 year old vb sdk with the declarations of the LDAP functions; but this seems not to be available in the web.

Netscape LDAP to OpenLDAP Migration

I'm begining the porject of upgraded Corporate TIme 5.4 to the latest standalone version of the Oracle Calendar.
In the process I have to migrate data in our old netscape ldap server to an openldap server.
Can anyone give me any pointers on how to do this successfully?

I have once migrated from Netscape to OID.
This might work with OpenLDAP, too.
I created a ldif file of the complete users tree and groups tree.
Then using sed (on Unix) I get rid of the Netscape specific features and other things that I didn't need.
Then I imported this into the OID. Only a few users were not imported - I migrated them by hand (meaning I recreated them).
This happened on a 1700 users Netscape LDAP server.

i am trying to setup IM 8u2 from the comms suite 7 onto Solaris Sparc 10.
I have directory server setup on a separate server.
I installed jdk1.6.0_16 and am using that as my java home.

Netscape LDAP API's vs JNDI

dear all
Netscape LDAP API's and JNDI are also the interface to directory server from programming. What is the different to them? and what is the advantage of each? Could you please give me a brief?

If you are trying to decide which to use in writing an application, I would go with JNDI. Your code will be more portable and not Netscape Directory specific. A co-worker of mine worked with the Netscape LDAP API and thought it was a pain.
I have used JNDI with our Netscape LDAP directory and it works great, plus there's a really good JNDI tutorial available at:
