How can a Visual Basic Application be used to read a Netscape LDAP server?

I would Like to know if Visual Basic (ON AN NT WORKSTATION) can be used to access a Netscape LDAP Server (ON UNIX). And If so, will any API calls be necessary? Is there any documentation on using Visual Basic with LDAP?

yes you can use VB with the nsldap32v30.dll or nsldap32v30.dll. You can get this from the iplanet page . The dll is inside the LDAP C SDK. Then, there's a 3 or 4 year old vb sdk with the declarations of the LDAP functions; but this seems not to be available in the web.

The browser ID string is a HTTP request parameter. How you get to it depends entirely on what you're programming in. You want to get the value of the User-Agent parameter (for example, in CGI, this is HTTP_USER_AGENT).
However, I'd advise against doing things this way unless you really understand how HTTP works on many levels. One common problem people run into on sending different content based on the browser is that proxy servers will happily cache everything and send content intended for one browser to another.
I have not seen any IE functionality that Netscape does not also have that is worth this hassle, but that's just my very stubborn opinion. :-)

How can I find which applications are using the most power?

I have recently noticed a full charge of power doesn't last as long as it used to on my iPad 2. Is there some way to determine which applications are using the most power?
I have been monitoring my home network router accesses and have noticed the iPad logs accesses every 15 seconds. This only happened recently. It had been well behaved and only accessing once or twice a day before. I installed the most recent iTunes upgrade, per suggestions during a Sync. The problems seemed to occur after this update. I have gone through all the settings and have minimized the applications requiring higher power (I switch off the location services unless I'm away from home. Likewise, I turn off my cellular carrier unless I'm away from home, etc.)
In short, how can I maximize my power usage (aside from turning it off)?

Thanks for responding so quickly.
I'm really trying to find out why the battery is depleting much faster than it used to all of a sudden. I used to be able to put a full charge on it and it would last about 5 to 6 days with normal use (normal for me). Now that battery only lasts about 2 to 3 days with the same use.
I DO recharge it when it needs to be charged but this is indicating there is something else (new) that is causing the power drain.

Replacement visual basic applications that use Microsoft IE as control

Years ago (~15) I wrote some VB applications that import IE as a component. While visiting some selected web pages, these applications would extract pertinent information and save them in a local (client side) database. Over the years IE has changed, OSes have changed and these applications are barley usable anymore. I am not interested in spending hundreds of dollars on new development environment with MS only to find that this can't even be done anymore.
It has been almost as long since I even looked at HTML. My question to the community is: to write replacements for these apps, would it be best to write them as extensions to the browser ( is it even possible) or would I have to run a local web server and create web pages that interact with the local sever to get the job done. My preference would be to have these as standalone applications without a need for a local web server but if push comes to shove... Also these applications have to be interactive as some human interaction is inevitable. Any tips, opinions and pointers are welcome.

In order to write to disk, I think you will need either a browser add-on such as a Firefox extension, or a stand-alone application.
You still can still manipulate Internet Explorer using the components of IE. (Example: I recently updated a VBA application in Word which grabs a webpage, parses it without displaying it in a window, then lays out the data in a document.) For full capability, though, you may need to learn VB.net or C#.
Depending on the pages, a Firefox extension could be fairly lightweight, but you would likely would need to rewrite your code in JavaScript, as Firefox doesn't speak VB.
Mozilla allows embedding of Gecko, the rendering engine in Firefox, into third party applications as described here: [https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Gecko/Embedding_Mozilla]. However, unless there's a lot of time to learn this, you probably would be better off with one of the other options.
Finally, I'm sure there are pre-built scraping tools you can configure to extract anything you want from any site. That would be simplest, but I couldn't being to guess at the cost.
Anyway, I should note that this is not a developer-oriented website, so you probably should seek comments elsewhere as well.

How can I allow other applications to use vector image data in Flash CS5?

Specific to Flash Professional CS5. With its export options greatly reduced, there seems to be no way to make Flash graphics accessible by other programs. Is there any workaround?
Currently, Flash can output two kinds of vector images: SWF and FXG, neither of which seem to be importable by most applications, including Fireworks and Illustrator (which write to FXG but not read from it), and Catalyst doesn't seem to write to anything other than what Builder uses. In other words, I know no way to export Flash files to vector formats (besides using Flash CS4).

How can I allow network users to use File Sharing on 10.8 Server?

I am in the process of setting up a new OS X 10.8 Server. I have exported/imported the network users from my previous OS X 10.6.8 Server using Workspace Manager. I have re-entered the passwords of the users. I have existing clients running (stil logged in).
I have set up the File Sharing service in Server.app. I have several mount points. I have made the Users mount point available for home directories over AFP.
Now, the system administrator can connect to the server and get access to the file shares. So the basic file sharing system works.
Also: the users on a client can get there password verified (e.g. when unlocking screen protection) by the server. It is just AFP they can't get access to, while the system administrator account (OD /Local on the server) can be used. So, the password in the server is OK too. It seems to be a matter of privileges.
But no network user (OD user in directory /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 on the server) can get access. Where can I give network users privileges for File Sharing on the server?
I did try to add either the "Open Directory Users" group or a specific user that was imported into com.apple.access_afp. If I do that, there is partial success. I can connect to the server from the client with a user account other than system administrator from the server (but connecting is slow). But Mobile Home Sync does not work:

Hi Gerben,
Try creating a brand new user, that's not imported and see if that works. Every user/group has a little gear in the Server.app/Users or Groups which allows specific access to specific services, perhaps filesharing is off in that section?
Is your DNS setup properly? Can you verify that clients can see the FQDN of your server?
After setting up the Users folder for mobilehomes, did you check whether the group and the separate users have access to filesharing? I am able to select the correct homefolder /Users and restrict the homefolder size.

You wouldnt require a Developer Studio to run you
application.But you would require it to deploy (if are
using the JDI ,atleast to perform an Activation).
However you can launch the application once deployed
through the Web Dynpro Content Administrator

The deployed applications are present on the
lefthandside. They can be expanded to drill down to the
Application and the press Run

Deploying Visual Basic Application using Acrobat Pro 9

Hi,
We had to modify an existing Visual Basic 6 application to merge 2 pdf files and to rotate 1. We used Acrobat Professional 9 to do so. Now we want to deploy this application. After deployment, we always get a 'Run Time error 429: ActiveX component can't create object' only when we use the new functionalities. So I presume something is missing in the deployment package linked to the Acrobat Pro.
Can somebody tell me how to deploy a Vb application which uses some Acrbat references?

Looks like that your application can't find an installation of Adobe Acrobat.

How can I remove the applications from the Content Administrator

I had undeployed the applications from Content Administrator in two ways:
A:
1. Start the tool using the go.bat located in \usr\sap\<SID>\<Instance Name>\j2ee\admin folder
2. Log in with an Administrator user.
3. Under the Server node click Services-> Deploy.
4. In the runtime tab, on the right hand side screen click on the Applications checkbox. The list of all deployed applications appears.
5. Select the application and click on the Remove button.

Undeploying using SDM remoteGUI.
after I finished that,the application still exist in the browse of Content Administrator Web Dynpro.
But it is'n invailable.When I click the application name,it throws exceptions:

I have installed Adobe packages and cannot find the Acrobat extension folder please advise how can I get these applications to load onto my computer?

I have installed Adobe Creative Cloud for teams CC Packages which says that Acrobat XI Pro is installed. Your support page says it does not install Acrobat and I have to look in the Extensions folder for an MSI file. I have run a number of searches and cannot find the Acrobat extension folder please advise how can I get these applications to load onto my computer?
Also I now administer the teams and have accepted the invitation to I received to be a team member and download the apps. The admin page shows that I have been sent an invitation but does not show my account as "ACtive" unlike my other team members. I tried to use the link in the invite to accept it become active but the link displayed an error saying I had already accepted the invite... why is no account not active?
Finally what other product downloads in Creative Cloud do not actually download as part of the Creative cloud Packager for downloading the apps? e.g. acrobat and what else?
