Netscape 's inconsistency in the loading of applets/classes

Please I will appreciate any help.
I am using Netscape version 4.75 on a Windows NT platform to launch my application.
My application is a collection of java classes and applet classes and a gif file all zipped
into an archive ( zip -o ). These classes are written in the old java version 1.0.2
(unfortunately).The problem is that when it is launched from a netscape browser,
sometimes all the classes get loaded but other times the loading fails. The zip file is not compressed since we realized that it was failing more often with a compressed zip file.
SO we removed the zip file... This is how we are launching the application now but this,
too, creates a problem because there are incidents of partial or incomplete loading of
the classes. This application has been in use for over 3 years now, what can I do?

I have not tried a jar. Can I jar these classes that were written in java 1.0.2?
I have recommended that the application be upgraded to 1.1.x but they say there is
no money to do that, The customer would not fund it.
This problem does not occur on IE but we do not support IE any way. We run on HP,SUN,
and Windows NT platforms but this problem occurs only on NT. This is a production problem
so it occurs very where there is an NT machine ( over 200 NT users out there).
This is the version of Netscape that was chosen by the customer and yes it occurs on other netscape versions as well. I thought that jar files came with the emergence of java 1.1.x.
If it is possible to jar this outdated version of java classes, then I am willing to try it but
what is required to do this?

You have to implement a custom loader.

We don't delegate to the parent at all, so if the class being looked for is NOT in any of the URL[] objects passed in when created, then a ClassNotFoundException is thrown. The normal delegation checks cache, then the parent loader, then the findClass(). We simply remove the check to the parent, and try the findClass() right away. Because URLClassLoader implements findClass() to look for a .class in ALL of the URL[] objects passed to it, we don't need to bother with that at all.

How to read file in JAR file (the one containing applet class)

my applet needs to read a file (font file) that will be bundled in the jar file. how do i read that file?
i tried using
URL u = new URL("file:///myfont.ttf");
u.openStream();i got AccessControlException. is there anyway for the applet to load file in the JAR file? i see applet can load image in the jar file so figured that it should be able to do so with some other type of file

The reason you're getting access violation is the way you code your URL -- it's pointing to a file on the user's local disk. If my.ttf is in the jar, try:
URL url=myApplet.class.getClassLoader().getResource("myfont.ttf");Where myApplet is the name of your applet and the font file is assumedly kept in the same directory level in the jar file as the class file for your applet.

I can load an Applet .class file with an OBJECT tag...

How can I load a .jar file? I foolishly believed I could replace "myclass.class" with "myjar.jar" in the <PARAM> tag associated with an <OBJECT> tag, and if I had created my manifest file correctly, the Main-Class in my .jar would have its init() method called upon IE load of the web-page. But alas, it is not that simple.
Is there an incantation of the <OBJECT> tag that is appropriate for .jar files?

Loading Java Applet....again

Hi,
I've done a search on this topic and have not been able to resolve the problem.
The problem being that after trying to "Run a Form on the Web" using test.fmx, The loading java applet message stays in the browser indefinitely.
Some have suggested turning on the JInitiator Console to get a better understanding of the problem.
My problem is that when I click the "Show Java Console" and then "apply" in the JInitiator Control Panal nothing happens. I'm completely new to all of this, is there anything else I have to do to display the Java console?
Java consoles aside, any suggestions as what else I can do? When I first run the form I get an "applet loading" message in the browser status bar for a split second, followed by "exception:http://<servername.domain>/forms60java/f60web.jar"
I'm using IE 5.00 and jinitiator 1.1.7.27

This is a known problem with OS like Windows 95.

Load: class oracle.forms.engine.Main not found Stuck at loading Java Applet

Hi there
I have recently installed App Server 10.1.2.0 on a new machine.
Copied all my forms to an appropriate directory. Set up formsweb.cfg to allow them to run and have attempted to run them.
Unfortunately I get stuck at the Loading Java Applet screen, and in the status bar at the bottom it says :
load: class oracle.forms.engine.Main not found
I have taken a look at the Java Console, and the 2 things that jump out at me are that it appears to be looking for a forms90 directory, which seems odd since I am using App Server 10.1.2.0.2 and Forms Builder 10.1.2.0.2 meaning it should be looking in a forms directory not forms90 directory shouldnt it ?
And also, it mentions class with no proxy, so on looking around the forums it has been suggested that put the proxy details into jinitiator, which I have done, but this has made no difference either.
Can anyone suggest anything else please ?

Problem Installing the loaded applet in Samsung java card (S3CC9P9).

Am trying to install the applets already loaded into the Samsung java card(S3CC9P9), because am unable to select the applet which are loaded into the card. I got to know that the applets are only loaded, they are not installed in the card, without installing the applet ,we cannot select the applet. Am using gpj(version 20120310 ) to install the applets into the card.
When i execute : java -jar gpj.jar -list
i get the list of applets in the card as :

1. do you have a reader with a serial (com1) connection?
if so, the reader has to be connected before starting windows. so windows recognizes it.
2. have a look to the control panel. is there a tool - installed during driver installation - to test and configure the reader?
if so try it.
if all that works, the jcop tools communicate with the reader over the installed driver.

 900 6 filesNow, i've tried loading the very same jar file that i use in the JSP through a static HTML which is virtually identical to the JSP i presented and everything works just fine. I've checked and rechecked to see if all the permissions to access the jar file were accurate, i checked to see if Tomcat had it's MIME settings correctly configured so that there was no chance that the files were being corrupted during the load (as that is a usual cause for the problem, or so i've gathered) but to no avail. I've searched the web, including these forums, and found similar problems but no conclusive solution. I can't seem to figure out, at all, what could possibly be wrong. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried to be as thorough as i could from the start, so, any help would be deeply appreciated.

This can happen if the applet is compiled using an higher version of java and the browser is pointing to an older version (even if minor version number is higher)

for 1000 cards you can use a "small" printer like an evolis "dualis" or something like that
we've produced thousands of cards with this method in my company.
the pro is that you can also print the cards in the same time.
they usually have simple APIS like get_new_card_from_loader(), put_card_on_contacts(), eject_card()
you can connect any reader on the printer , the raw card contacts are available on a connector.
some printers also have contactless couplers.
but remember that deploying cards in the field is not just loading an applet.
it's also a cryptographic challenge, you need to change the card keys or anyone will be able to play with your cards, adding and removing applets as they want.
typically this is achieved by using an ultra secret mother key and whatever derivation algorithm you like using data from INIT UPDATE as diversifier. example, you can TDES cipher part of the INIT UPDATE data using the mother key as TDES key, or use something involving SHA1, using a HSM if you are serious, etc.

Error when loading an applet

When I loading an applet in a website, the brower hangs, and there is a JVM error log generated. am posting the content of the error log below. Could anybody here encounter the same problem? Previous the VM in my notebook is 1.4.2_06, and the problem occurs. Thought it was a problem of the VM, so I upgraded it to 1.5.0_06-b05, the problem is still there.

My applet suffered from the same Exception, using J2SE1.4.2_01 and J2SE1.4.2_02. My Applet consists of three Jars:
1. The Applet (which uses JCE API / signed with my cert)
2. JCE Provider (reduced to the necessary classes / signed by provider)
3. Unsigned classes
I was able to solve the problem by adding a second signature to the second JAR File (JCE Provider).
My humble conclusion:
Allways sign all classes which need to be signed with your own certificate, even sign those classes wich are allready signed by the JCE Provider.

Dynamic class loading in Applets

Fully loaded applet in some browser, depending upon some user action, has to perform following things :
(1) has to establish an network connection with some other system or server( other than Web Browser Server ) and get named( file name is known to applet ) JAR file from that system to client system( system where the applet is loaded ).
(2) From the JAR file, the applet has to extract named( class file is known to applet ) class file and load the same to applet
Pl. provide some information and sample java programs for the above mentiond problem .............

How to load an applet jar file?

I have an applet that uses my own jar file and approximately 6 third party jar files. I set up jar indexing (jar -i) which will download the jar files when they are needed. All seems to work well, but now I want to manually load the jar files which I cannot get working.
When the applet starts, about 1/2 of the jar files are downloaded (because they are needed at startup). I then want to load the additional jar files in the background, after the gui is initialized. I have tried this using the below thread which is executed from within the applet's start method:

The above error I posted was because I forgot to index the jar files. That is why it couldn't find the jar file. I thought I was getting farther along with my problem, but I apparently just forgot to index the jars. I am now getting the problem that I got yesterday...
The applet freezes/hangs when it hits the thread. The GUI never opens (even though I'm running this thread right after the gui shows). The java console quits responding and the applet just stays the grey screen. I also tried the invoke later that you suggested.
