Network activities

Is it mandatory to complete the loop from starting to the end or can one keep two or more open ends? That is will it be ok with the scheduling process?

good practive if scheduling is to have a loop where only activity has no predecessor and one activity has no successor

  • Automatic release of network activities

We are currently completing the configuration/implementation of the
    Project System module.
We want SAP to automatically release the following network activities
upon final confirmation of an activity.
As an example, letu2019s say we have a simple network of 3 activities:
Activity 10 (Predecessor of activity 30, type of relationship
    is FS with activity 30)
Activity 20 (Also predecessor of activity 30, type of
relationship is FS with activity 30)
Activity 30 (Successor of activities 10 and 20u2026therefore,
activities 10 and 20 are predecessors of activity 30)
Based on these relationships, before activity 30 may begin (or may be
released), both activities 10 and 20 must have been completed.
If a u201Cfinal confirmationu201D is set on activity 10, we want SAP to
automatically set the u201Creleaseu201D status on activity 30 if, and only if
activity 20 is also final confirmed.
We are trying to accomplish this using the milestone function
If we put a milestone on activity 10u2026
    In the milestone, we:
    Set the u201Cfunctionsu201D indicator
Select the function u201C Release following activitiesu201D
Enter the status CNF for confirmed in the u201CSyst.STS u201Cfield.
    Set the u201CChange statusu201D indicator to +
Letu2019s say we now have the following statuses on the network activities:
    Activity 10 = REL
    Activity 20 = REL
    Activity 30 = CRTD
Then, if we final confirm (status CNF) on activity 10, SAP triggers the
milestone function and release activity 30, even if activity 20 is not
    confirmed yet!!!
After final confirmation of activity 10, the statuses on the network
    activities are:
    Activity 10 = CNF
    Activity 20 = REL
    Activity 30 = REL
Why is it releasing activity 30, even if activity 20 is not confirmed?
Activity 20 must be completed also before activity 30 may be
    released!!??
Therefore, in this situation described, when the milestone on activity
10 was triggered by the final confirmation of activity 10, activity 30
    should not have been released.
Activity 30 should be released only when activity 10 and 20 would have
    the status CNF.
    What am I missing?
How can I setup the milestone so it reacts properly, taking into
account the relationships between the activities?
I look forward to your inputs.
    Thanks
    Frederick

    Hello Frederick,
unfortunately scenario described will not work. I. e. milestone function does not consider status of the other activity and will release the directly linked activity.
One may check whether required logic can be implmenented in customer exit CNEX0028 (not CNEX0029).
As an alternative one may try to implement the logic in a substitution exit to trigger status change via ABAP internal function calls. However this requires a deep understanding of ABAP and of PS code.
    Kind regards

  • CAT2 duplicate PS network activities showing in personal template

    Hello,
    We are using SAP_APPL 4.7, support pack 22 and SAP_HR 4.7, support pack 10.
I don't know much about CATS & PS, but I provide our end user support.
We are using transaction CAT2 to report hours worked against PS network activities.  We have run into a glitch when using the 'Save as Template' feature which creates a personal template.  In our situation a person will add a network activity in the data entry area of CAT2.  After they input their time they press the 'save as template' icon.  Then when they enter CAT2 the following week to report their time, the network activity is still listed in the data entry area for them to enter their time.  This part is working fine.
Now let's assume someone goes into project systems (CJ20N) and changes the network activity description (which shows in CAT2 as a informational output field).  The person entering time then goes into CAT2.  Their template is showing the network activity in the data entry area with the old description.  When they input their hours and press enter, the new network activity description is pulled in on the time sheet, overlaying the old original description.  At this point they still see one entry in their time sheet.  Now here is the glitch - if the person goes in the following week to enter their time, they see two entries in the data entry area - one with the old description and one with the new description.  Both records show the same network activity number, but now 2 records are appearing in their template because the description changed.
Our 'work around' has been to have people delete their personal template and recreate it from scratch if they see these 'double entries' due to a description change.  Does anyone know a better way to handle this or if there is 'fix' that we can apply to correct this issue so we don't see two records?  I did some looking in OSS, the only duplicate entry reference I could find was OSS note 1058293, however it was related to WBSs and was not for our release.  Can anyone help? Thanks!

    Hi Debbie.
When writing into CAT2 screen data is pulled when pressing enter. If a person has a wrong cost center, e.g., this cannot be changed by changing the persons cost center only. All the hours have to be deleted and rewritten for CAT2 then pulling the correct cost center.
Considering this behaviour of the system it would be a consequence that CAT2 pulls the new text but lets the existing entries unchanged.
You have not said anything about the written hours. Are these duplicated as well? If you open an OSS because of this I'd be curious to hear about the answer.
    Best regards.

  • ECP with network activities and sales pricing

    Hi experts,
Currently I have configured the system so that I can plan costs by assigning Easy Cost Planning templates to network activities and WBS elements. However, when I try to create quotation (sales pricing) from Project Builder (CJ20N), the planned costs of ECP templates assigned to network activities does not appear, only the planned costs of ECP directly assigned WBS element appears.
    Thanks in advance.
    Hieu Nguyen

After extensive testing, I believe doing sales pricing from Project Builder would not work correctly when using ECP with network activity. Sales pricing from Project Builder will only work properly if ECP only assigned to WBS element.
If you need to use ECP with network activities, you would need to use DP82 to do the sales pricing.

  • How to use BAPI_PROJECT_MAINTAIN to create network activities under WBS elements ?

    Hello ABAPers,
I have been using BAPI_PROJECT_MAINTAIN to create Project and WBS elements and I have done them without any errors.
Now I need help on how to create network activities.
Can anyone share on how to pass data to I_NETWORK table and I_ACTIVITY table and a brief description on what they are ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
    Do the following steps
    1.pass the following to i_method_project
    method_project-refnumber = lv_refnum.
    method_project-objecttype = 'NETWORK-ACTIVITY'.
    method_project-method = 'UPDATE'.
    concatenate aufnr(network nr) vornr(activity) into method_project-objectkey.
    2.Into i_activity
    activity-network = aufnr.
    activity-activity = vornr.
    3.i_activity_update
    activity_update-network = 'X'.
    activity_update-activity = 'X'.
It should work.If not let me know.

  • Planning network activities

    Hi all,
I have a question related to project planning.
I would like to plan the network activities per cost element and per period (year/month) as this is a customer requirement . However, in the end i would have a lot of cost elements per wbs elements which i think it would not be user friendly. How could i manage this in a easier way? Moreover, some of these activities have several delivery dates which i think it complicates the project planning (even in several years)
Moreover, as far as i know, it is not possible to copy the activities real values to a plan version. How can i manage this using the sap standard functions?
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
Different WBS can have different Responsible Cost centres and Required cost centre. However we can define the network cost centre depending upon the type of activity we are doing. The settlement of the root WBS will clubbed all the cost from different activity -- > Different Network --> Different Levels WBS to the root WBS.
    Hope this will help.

  • Uploading the Cost to Network - Activities in Cut over

    Hi All,
As a part of Cut over activities, Is that possible to upload actual cost to Network - activities in Producion environment?
As a best practice, till now in my projects, I have uploaded the Intial cost to WBS only.
    Regards
    Prabu K

    Hi Abdul,
While using KAFD, we can post legacy or historical actual cost.
The most important this is that, define one WBS element in your project structure and name it as Historical WBS element which will receive all your legacy costs. By doing so, we are posting all our legacy costs to One WBS element only.
Here what you have to do is difine the Historical cost elements which are used only for these migrated projects and not for regular opeative structures.
Input the current period - current period always be in which period project is being migrated.
then input the Year - in our case we have not defined multiple years but as a lumpsum amount in current year (the year project is migrated)  that will stay as historical cost. You will not see any break up of historical costs in SAP but you can see break up of actual coss in legacy system.
Hope this clarifies and let me know if you need any further inputs.

  • Assignment of networks / activities and WBS elements

    hi experts,
I have some basic doubts... can any ony clarify these:
1.can a WBS element be assigned to several Projects.
    2.  can a network be assigned to several WBS elements.
    3. can an activity be assigned to several networks
    4. can an activity element be assigned to several network activities.
    thanking in advance.

Edited by: priyanka on Jun 29, 2008 10:54 PM

    Hi Priyanka,
Yes, Iam sure that a single network can be assigned to more than 1 WBS at a same time.
A WBS can be assigned several activities even different networks also if required, but an activity can be assigned to one WBS element only. Once activities are assigned to WBS elements, you can exchange data between activities and networks. For example activities can inherit statuses from the WBS elements they are assigned to. Conversely you can total up project activity dates to WBS elements or can check funds allotted to activities against WBS.
A single or several networks can be used in the project structure, to map individual aspects of the project such as activities that are linked to each other via relationships. The relationships between two activities define the logical sequence of the activities (predecessor u2013 successor relationship) as well as their time dependencies. Activities of different networks can also be linked to one another. Advantage of network technique is that, system can automatically determine planned dates for each activity and entire network on the basis of duration of individual activities and their chronological sequence.
Priyanka, I hope this may clear your doubt . .

  • ECP on Network Activities

    Hello PS Experts,
We are on ECC6 Enhancement Pack 4 client.
The issue is that the Network Activities do not appear on the Easy Cost Planning screen for planning.
I can only see the WBS element structure, similar to the old functionality.
(To my understanding this new functionality is available since ECC6 EhP 3).
I believe, the only configuration required for this is as below and is done.
Project System >Costs>Planned Costs> Easy Cost Planning and Execution Services >Easy Cost Planning>Activate Planning for Network Activities with Easy Cost Planning
Any inputs on why it is not working ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Bhushan

    It is working now.
Multi-CO Version needs to be activicated for the respective CO area and in the 'Edit Costing' window, that pops-up, one should click on the 'Edit' button before the first time save.

  • A single fast connection blocks almost all other network activities

    Hi!
If I have a single fast up/download (or enough smaller/slower ones), it is able blocks almost all other network activities:
Torrent without up/down limit => everything else is "timing out" (or something. P.e. load a single page in firefox or ping my router - doing nothing).
Pacman is fetching a package from a fast server => the same.
Pages in firefox don't load if I just stop the fast traffic - it keeps doing nothing until I hit [reload].
Tested a few other network applications (java stuff, wget, curl, whatever pacman uses), it all looks the same.
This hasn't been like this up until a while ago (1-2 weeks?)... during that time, I changed nothing in the whole network except for
    1) the arch updates (normal mirrors, no testing)
    2) added a debian machine to the network (problem persists if I shut it down though)
Now I don't know where to start searching. Any hints?
    Thanks!

As I understand things you are saying one fast connection is blocking out all other connections right?
If so we need some more information.
    1. Your basic setup, like are you using a cable modem and what router. wireless?
    2. The result of speed tests on your connection both upload and download (e.g. testmy.net)
    3. What is the "one" fast connection and how much bandwidth is it taking (bittorrent?)
One thing to look for is that certain routers cannot handle many connections.  A few of my old WRT54G routers with stock firmware could only handle 200 connections or so before crashing.  So now I use dd-wrt on a WRT54GL.
Some more info on what might be happening:
    1. The torrent client is using all the connections so the router cannot handle more connections.
    2. The torrent client is taking all the upload bandwidth so the behaviour you describe occurs.
    3. The torrent client is taking up all the download bandwidth.
    [less likely]
    4. Some complex ISP shaping and/or bandwidth limiting?
    5. Malfunctioning network hardware locally (i.e. router, NIC, etc.)
    6. Wireless router encountering interference thus limiting bandwidth severely?
Some Possible solutions (assuming the common stuff is the case):
    1. Get a Better router/firmware.
    2. Configure the torrent client to limit connections/upload/download.
    3. Setup complex limiting on the local box using iptables.
    4. Ties in with #1.  Configure router to implement QoS and/or bandwidth limiting based on Application layer protocol/port/Ip address/mac etc. dfepending on situation.

  • Meaning of different Network Activities

    Hello,
in your Network you can add 4 types of activities:
    Internal processing
    External processing
    Costs
    Services
What do they mean? and what can they be used for?
    Thanks,
    Renaat

    Hi,
SAP Project System supports the following activity categories.
    •       Internal Processing: for capacities to be staged in your own
            company
    •       External Processing: for tasks to be assigned externally
    •       Service Activities: for procuring external services
    •     Costs: for planning additional primary costs.
You use the activities in the network to plan the labor, capacities, materials, tools, and services you require to carry out various tasks in your project. By assigning milestones to activities, you can document events that are particularly important for the progress of the project and reference their respective dates in billing or invoicing plans, for example. During the project execution phase, commitment and actual costs are updated automatically to the network activities as a result of various business transactions (for example, confirmations, ordering processes, goods issues, incoming invoices).
    Hope this helps.

  • Network activities deletion Problem

    Dear All,
I have a requirement where in I have to delete multiple activities from a network using a Z transaction and then renumber the existing activity numbers.
For deleting the activities, currently I have used BAPI_NETWORK_MAINTAIN with method u2018DELETEu2019. But for renumbering of the activity numbers I am not
    Sure how to do that.
When I delete activities using this BAPI, I see that it is just setting the Deletion flag for that activity as u2018Xu201D and the activity number still exist in the database.
Because of this I understand that I cannot reuse the same activity number. Also in BAPI_NETWORK_MAINTAIN I see that we can update the details for activity
Using I_ACTIVITY_UPDATE parameter. But even with this I donu2019t think we can change only activity details but not activity number.
Can anyone tell me how to achieve the functionality of deleting activities permanently and renumbering of activities for my requirement? Appreciate your quick response on this.
Please let me know if I am not clear in explaining my requirement.
    Regards
    Priya

    Hi Khushi ,
The date you can get in the Transaction CJ20N , by clicking on the component and go to the Assignment Tab Last change . (as the system would not allow any further changes to the component after the deletion flag , the last change can be considered as the Deletion indicator )
In general when the Activity is in released status , the component added to it should nt be deleted , but should only be flagged for deletion (Deletoin Indicator )
When a component is added to the network activity , either a Reservation or a Purchse requisition or both would be triggered depending on the procurement parameters .
When such a component is set for Deletion indicator either EBAN-LOEKZ or RESB-XLOEK will be updated with a X
When component is set for Deletion indicator , in case of a Purchase requisition , CDHDR and CDPOS would be updated with an entry writing a change document with U (update) and not with D (Deletion ). you can see the change documents for ,the purchase requisition .
Go to ME53N , and select the corresponding line item of the Purchase Requisition and from the menu
Environment-->Item changes would show you the time stamp when the item was set for Deletion Indicator .

  • Network Activities update issue after confirmation

    Dear,
In our PS projects we are using one network header (with backwards scheduling) with both internal (PS01) en cost activities (PS03). The cost activities are linked to two internal activities to establish a cost spread.
For example Cost activity 1 is linked to internal activity X and Y=
Cost activity 1 has a SS relationship with internal activity X
Cost activity 1 has a EE relationship with internal activity Y
=> as such the planned costs defined in the cost activity are spread over the planned period between internal activity X and Y
Now when you do a confirmation of a internal activity, e.g. X, then the planned dates of the cost activity are not updated with this actual dates of the linked internal activity
