Network locked nokia n8 software update?

Is it possible to update an n8 that is locked to a network  to symbian anna or does it have to be a sim free mobile to be able to receive the update?
I'm asking as I know the nokia e63 locked to the 3 network is unable to update the software on it (even though there is an update available for the phone) and was wondering if this is the same on all nokias.

the operator must approve the new firmware before it gets released for the product code of your device.
wait and keep checking with Ovi Suite or FOTA it might be available.

    Bellow are the changes:
Faster Camera startup, specially the part where it was taking a second before showing the display has been disappeared now.
Faster Messages start like overall feel of all phone apps
    Animations seems to be smoother
Lock button locking the phone screen instantly
    Faster Camera Startup: No.
Faster Messags Start: Yes! It starts now very quick.
Animations seems to be smoother: Uh, seems no change at all.
Lock Button: I don't know if it changed.
By the way, when go to Settings > Application manager > Installed apps.
you will notice in the log that there is a new app or widget installed called Searchwidget (1.01(1)).

  • Unable to connect to network with Safari and Software Update

A user I support has encountered a problem with networking. He is unable to connect to the network with Safari and Software Update, but IS able to connect and surf with Foxfire and some other programs. Another unusual symptom is that he actually can connect to one web site (which is in his Bookmarks Bar) with Safari, but can't connect to anything else. He's also unable to navigate off of that one site he connects to. When he runs Network Diagnostics, he gets all green lights (no problems). He has fixed permissions, deleted Safari Cache and .plist, rebooted - not fixed yet. He's using 10.4.8 on a PowerPC G4. Any ideas appreciated (this is the wierdest I've seen in a while!).

Here's what he did. After reading your post, he created another location in his network preferences, entering EXACTLY the same info that was in his old location (he even used the old DNS addresses), except using a new location name. Then he chose the new location and "everything worked". It's one of life's great mysteries. Thanks for your help - it is appreciated.

  • Nokia 5800 software update (from V31.0.101 to V40....

Does anybody works for Nokia here? I'm still hopeful to get real answers from real Nokia Support employees.
This is my post so far. An I also responded on the I hate my Nokia 5800. But I dont really hate it yet. I jus need the sotware to update.
    Hi Nokia!
I purchased your Nokia 5800 Xpress Music mobile phone and I am trying to update the software/driver to improve 1: Touch Screen scrolling, 2: version of OviMaps, 3: Ovi Contacts, 4: SW application, and 5:  WLAN performance.
I called technical support for mobile phones, unfortunately it is unavailable according to the recording, i've waited for thinking its a wrong message, but nothing happened the call dropped after the message.
The current software version is V31.0.101 and it does not upgrade. I have tried using my phone options to upgrade/update the software, this did not work, i have tried using the Nokia Software Updater but it can not find the new version of the software, and I have tried searching for the new software version by using my phone code under the battery and still it can not find the new software version.
I need help on resolving this issue.
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Have a good one.
    Cheers!

Done all the reset and the reinstallation oof firmware.

    Mobile Issues
The phone touch screen is not very responsive.
Limited setting/shortcut you can set on the main screen.
Alarm is inconsistent. Sometimes it’s late.
Clock settings/time zone is not working properly.
The charger port on the phone is a bit loose. Charging gets interrupted even if there is only little movement.
Option is to update NOKIAs 5800 software. Current version is V31.0.101, the latest version is V40.0.005.
Nokia PC Suite / Nokia Software Updater cannot find the update
Tried to use the mobiles code, still cannot find the update
My mate has the same mobile NOKIA 5800 on a Virgin Mobile plan; he was able to update the software. I got images of his phone and my phone with different versions, mine was the old version his got the new 40.0.005 His mate has the same phone as well, which they manage to update the software. He tried helping me update the software, but ended up unable to update the software and got frustrated.
Option is to speak with TeleChoice Barrack Street. After TeleChoice checked the phone why it will not upgrade they suggested having the phone serviced/checked by Nokia Care in Morley.
I let Nokia have a look at the mobile/issue, they told me they will be able to update the software for me, I left my mobile with them, and after 3 business days and the going back and forth to Nokia, and they were unable to update the software. Very sadly, they said it’s being locked by Optus.
I am using 3 as my provider, the mobile I bought it outright from TeleChoice, no plan whatsoever. So I don’t understand why Nokia said it is being locked by Optus.
The option provided for me is to patiently wait for updates, which is available now or to return the product.
Now I am processing a replacement of the device from TeleChoice 10/02/03, hoping to have the issue rectified. They should rectify this, or there will be a violation againts fair trading.

Actually, it has nothing to do with locking to their network. That's a totally different problem altogether that's independent from the branding.
What's happening here is altering the firmware so that it contains Three's logo and links to some of their services in the menu. Plus maybe a few alterations to maintain compatibility with the network, although they should be minor since unbranded phones will work on Three.
The trouble with making these alterations to updated firmware is that it takes time and therefore money to do it, and they get nothing in return. That's why it's such a low priority for network operators to approve updates.

  • Telstra Nokia N95 software update?

    Hi all,
I recently purchased an N95 from a Telstra shop on 15/05/08, tried to update my firmware, have the latest version of PC suite 6.86.93, the N series PC suite, and the software updater. I've been reading the news on the N95 and Nokia states it's at version 21++ for firmware, doing the *#0000# check my Telstra N95 us coming up with firmware 10.02.006
Ok so I'm thinking sure, newly bought phone, I just need to update my firmware but that apparently seems to be impossible, everytime I try a firmware update my N95 it's telling me it's on the latest software for that phone.
Browsing around forum posts it would appear that not all N95's were created equal, I'm thinking Telstra is selling the N95-3, what I would like to know, and emailing Nokia customer service has proven to be quite useless on this matter:
ie stock standard cut and paste answers without them investigating this particular N95 variant's lack of firmware support, or being proactive in their solutions.
The response I had from them is you have an N95, the N95 is on version 21 for the firmware, phone companies that sell those phones sometimes have to verify the firmware before it can be put on, here's a link to the software updater, that's all fine, that's all information I could find out on my own too, what i would have liked them to tell me is, what version of firmware has Telstra allowed this phone to be updated to or is this a generic N95-3 lack of firmware love problem and if it is Telstra then do they have a liaison who can tap on the shoulder and say, "hey you know we are way ahead with the updates on firmware, you might want to update things on your end and let our customers keep up with the latest firmware other N95 users out there have access to because this really isn't representing our product at it's best..."
Or if it's a lack of N95-3 support, then what's being done about it?
Any other Telstra N95 users out there with this problem?

im thinking about going to the local nokia store and requesting a upgrade in firmware for free to try and bypass telstra's lack of progress.
They won't do it. That would involve removing the network-approved firmware and replacing it with generic firmware.

  • Nokia e50 software updater problem

when i start it says:network conection lost.check your network conection or whether a firewall is preventing the aplication from working properly.but i don.t have any firewall..and don.t know what to do...can anyoane help?pls

Who is your carrier? Branded phones (phones brought from a carrier) will not do a software update until that carrier ok's the update. For example I am on 3 (in Australia). They only ok'd the update yesterday (9-Feb-2007). I had been trying to do an update and the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) couldn't connect to my phone. Once 3 had ok'd the update I tried again and the NSU did the update perfectly. NB:make sure you back up your phone memory and remove your memory card when you do - this baby wipes EVERYTHING!!
My advice to you is to call your nearest Nokia Care Centre and give them the name of your carrier and the version of firmware you are running - (type *#0000# into your keypad and you will get it) they should be able to tell you if your carrier has ok'd the update or not - and if you are lucky they will be able to tell if/when they intend to ok it.

  • Nokia E50 Software Update

    Hi,
I have Nokia E50, Can any one help me to update my phone software. Also in our country some mobile operators are offering Cell Info Display, i have switch on that display feature but it is not constant it is appearing and disappearing. is this due to phone software issue?
    Thanks
    Sajid

If there is a software update for your phone, go to the support site for your phone, and download the Nokia Software Update tool. Connect your phone to the computer via a cable and open the software update tool. Be ABSOLUTELY SURE nothing interrupts this process as it could damage your phone. If there is a software update available for your phone, it'll give you the option to download and upgrade your phone. Be sure to backup your phone before you start, as you'll lose your data.
The Cell Info service is network dependent. Its possible there are issues with your provider that are causing the breaks in service.

  • When will Nokia release software update programs w...

I am trying to update the firmware for my E71, as I understand the newest firmware is pretty decent and offers improved performance.
However, the programs which Nokia provide to do these updates simply don't work.
When using the update tool through the Nokia PC Suite, I get the classic 'configuration error' and I try all the suggestions it gives to no avail.
So, somebody suggests I install the Nokia Ovi Suite, as that has a software updater which apparently works.  It doesn't.  If I'm not getting an 'unknown error' (which suggests either to restart the Ovi suite and if that fails to reboot the computer - both of these result in the same thing happening again), then the Ovi Suite gets the Windows 'This program has stopped working' message.
Nokia - HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO GET THIS RIGHT???  You're supposed to be the market leader for mobile phones, and you can't get this right.  I now remember why I swore blind never to get another Nokia phone ever again after the bug-ridden monstrosity that was the N73.

If your phone is branded or locked to Mobitel or another serviceprovider, it might be that they haven't approved the update yet, as they are entitled to. It might also be that Nokia hasn't yet released the update for that region for all I know.
There are also special edtitions released wich may never get any update. Eg. Ramadan version.
In any case, it's a matter of waiting. And it seems that it's totally random if Nokia announces updates, though they have done with some of the bigger updates (n97 v20) or the big update comming for the N8.

  • Nokia N8 software update suggestions

Okay guys. So the N8 is out in most places.
I am waiting for Australia to get it, so I don't have mine yet, but from all the reviews i've seen (countless) there are a few things that I already know I would like them to implement in future firmwares.
    1) Portrait QWERTY for text input. Includes SMS/MMS messaging aswell as general text entry.
    2) Improve the responsiveness when swiping through home screens. It should be instant, without the 1 second lag.
    3) Improve the responsiveness of the pinch-zoom on the photo viewer.
    4) Better integration with social networks, including the ability to upload photos and videos directly from the phone, without the added need of an ovi application.
    5) Better more fluent web browser, instead of the outdated clunky one currently being used.
    6) More fluent ovi maps touch navigation
    7) S^4 will be released in the near future, I would like the ability to upgrade the OS to S^4.
Thats what I think so far, I think these features are a must have, I will add more in the future, you guys add what you think too.
Where can we actually submit requests for FW updates?

Hi, I have just got my n8 and i think in the next software update they should fix the wifi problem. I disconnect the wifi and switch off the search for available wlan but it reconnects by itself and drains the battery. Also when i want to use wifi only my N8 says connected to virgin internet. I should be able to put the phone in offline mode and still be able to use the internet with wifi just like most android phones.
When you want to use WiFi only, have you ensured that you have set the connection priority in "Destinations". I had to set my home wireless as first, work WiFi as second, then Virgin Internet (or whatever your internet data provider is) to last.
Destinations is well hidden on S^3 devices, so you go to Menu Button > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Destinations > Internet.  Then press-hold each connection to set it's priority in the list.
Hope it helps you out blitzu.

  • Nokia 5530 software update problem

    Hi there..
When i begin updating my device's software(from the original server profile, and the original application) it checks for update, it understands that there is available update (i have v20.0.080 now) it downloads it and when it tries to install it, it says that its not compatible with my device ? how is this possible ?

updates vary by region and product code and if phone is network locked you have to wait until they approve the update
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Nokia N82 software update

Guys ive had both an email and a text from Nokia saying i can now update my software. When i go to the update section it says the latest software available is V 12.3.456, i currently have V 10.0.046. When i use the software updater tool it says im already up to date???
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

The email message you got was due to a glitch on the system resulting in sms' being sent to many people.
If NSU reports no update available then there probably isn't an update available for your particular N82. There are many variants of the N82 including the different variants for the different networks. Each variant will have its own product code. Updates are not available for all products codes simultaneously. Network branded handsets will require the firmware update approved by the network before it can be released. The chances are you have a network branded handset in which case you will have to wait for your network to approve the update before you will get it.

Mine is not Network branded. The new version is not yet made available for all the N95 Codes.
Nokia software update tells you whether the new version V20 is available for your phone. You have to know your phone code.

Does indeed say this but ONLY on the vietnamese  page http://www.nokia.com.vn/belle/sw
so this could 1.  Only apply to that region   or 2. be a mistake or translation error
Dont get me wrong i hope its true they said Feb
Bored of waiting to be honist can't wait for my contract to be up and go buy a Samsung who are moving forward about 100 time faster than Nokia.   Nokia are just too slow to keep up.   The windows phones are ok but still lack camera as good as N8 and no flash.   These delays in software releases is just killing them  not sure they have heard of TIME TO MARKET  many of us were telling Nokia their errors 4 years ago but they didn't listen they still dont listen.
They make too many phones instead of getting one perfect, they are too slow to update, They are too tied in to networks who insist on putting their wast of time branding on everything.
